hi guys, anyone found a better replacement for GTab?
Is it possible that PixelQi screen in NOA be compatible with GTab?
It would be nice. I found link to buy the display.
makershed.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=MKPQ01
More expensive than I though...
Read the hardware breakdown thread. Someone already tried putting a PixelQi in the gtablet. It works but was too thick. The PixelQi is 4.9mm thick and the stock gtablet screen 3.6mm. I think fit is going to be the biggest issue in finding a replacement. The PixelQi is one of the thinner panels you can buy (most range between 5.0-5.5mm) and even it is too tight for the gtablet.
Also, before posting you should read and search.
There is a three-page long thread (usually fairly close to the top of page one in the "General" thread) which tells of many efforts and products on screen replacement.

Thanks guys and sorry, I Trully didn't see the other thread.

First off, a quick big thanks to everyone here. This tablet is truly an awesome toy for tinkerers, and the folks here have made it a highly usable device with the custom ROMs.
My biggest (and really only) gripe with the hardware is that the screen has pretty rough viewing angles (especially when in landscape with the camera at the top). I'm curious if it would be possible to install a Pixel Qi screen (pixelqi.com/products). They are the same measurements and resolution (10.1" 1024x600), and they sell kits to replace your netbook screen for $275.
I'm going to head over to the teardown thread and see if I can located the connector for the screen and see if it is a match for what some of the listed compatible netbook screens have.
Has anyone here used/seen a Pixel Qi display?

Nope but if it works pls let us know. I would like to jump at that also =D
I love my GTab but with the Adam's announcement around the corner it may be best to wait until at least Dec 9th.
I Wanna see reviews on the Pixel Qi. from what ive seen its really good in the day light but is it very clear and no bad view angles indoors? does it look crisper? Brighter?

Get a dock and use it on your TV or monitor
the viewing angle is worse on the pixel Qi, it's too thick to fit and has only low color(6 bit per color or 18bit total) that gets lower down to 64 greys in some lightings.
It's only good to lower power usage.
Deleted first post. Stock screen is a no go. We need a new LCD all together
I was thinking about doing this, and if it is matte then that would make a difference. Just not sure if it is worth it, if the Adam comes out soon I may pick one up.
If you flip the Gtablet upside down, you will notice the angles look much better. Not sure why they mounted in a manner that has weaker angles, but it seems the most cost efficient way for a better display is if the connector, ribbon and bezel mount accommodated a 180 degree rotation
Adam is still in marketing concept stage for customer messaging. No word on their blog yet on distribution or mass production agreements by a contract manufacturer. Probably March release, if I were a betting person.
Hrmm well I Still wanna try this but I Probably wont get to it Untill atleast 2 more weeks. Broke till next pay check -_- Black Friday Deals Drained me....If all turns out good Ill post results.

Ok so I was Reading the Hardware Breakdown thread and saw that the Model for the lcd display used in the g tablet Is used on notebooks. So if I Buy a Replacement Screen of the same model im assuming it would work if put on correctly right? Well the one in the G tablet looks to be Matte Finish type which explains bad viewing angles but I found this website that sells 2 different types of lcd Displays that should be interchangable. the Next time i Get Payed im Gonna buy the Glossy Version wich should provide Better Viewing Angles and Superior Crispness and see if it work as planed. Could this be the Screen Problem Solution we have been waiting for? Heres the Link
http://www.laptopscreen.com/English/screen-part-number/B101AW06~V.1/
Hopfully it works with our tablet and Improves the Screen Angles! This might be worse for outdoors though. if you click 'Info' on glossy it explains more!

This sounds great let me know how it works out! My gTab arrived with about 10 dead pixels (most of them are small and i cant see them without being picky) and I am eager to try something else.
I thought viewsonic would be more picky about what kind of screens they put in their stuff.
These laptop screens might be the same, keep in mind. My netbook exhibits the same solarizing effect as my GTab - you just can't see it since you usually look at it head on.

I know all my laptops have better viewing angles or at least richer blacks. So I do have some hope at improvement, since the panel in mine is so messed up.
Does anyone have any experience with these exact panels? any recommendations?
any reviews on this!
the screen from the Dell Inspiron Duo (if it has the same single connector) seems to have a lot better specs. It's supposed to be 1366*768 with much better viewing angles than this piece.
In fact, I'm considering returning my GTab for one.

3.5 hour battery life? Ew! Though the screen is nice; if it fits I wouldn't mind getting one and putting it in.

Battery life isn't issue #1 for me. Usability is, and that's where the gtablet starts falling off for me. I feel that I can do a lot better for the money.
--
I think the issue with the Dell screen is going to be the connector. I get the feeling nobody else is using the tiny non-locking Molex connectors the gtablet uses.
To those looking for reviews, just Google "Pixel Qi Review", I can't post links otherwise I would do so. There's several articles on Engadget, and a few videos on Gizmodo and Slashgear. The idea behind Pixel Qi is that in sunlight you can disable the backlight, and the sunlight is reflected off the back (inside) of the screen; this makes the sunlight act as a backlight, resulting in being more viewable outdoors. Also, the display can be switched between 'normal' LCD and 'e-paper' style as well. Really, the biggest reason I'm interested is the viewing angles. Netbook LCDs have horrible viewing angles (the G Tablet's screen is a Netbook LCD), so I would love to see this tablet with a better display.
Pilxel qi seems to way way more expensive priced at almost 300$, Which is almost the price of another tablet. Also do they even make pixel qi screens that work on this tablet? I couldnt find it on the website

I just might, but i waited for a few weeks trying to pick one up. most of the pixel defects are small and right at the edge of the screen. there is one kind of annoying one right in the middle though :/

Return it! Complain! get a New one! dont stand for somthing less than satisfactory!
has anyone tried swapping out the screen?
It is my only gripe about the tablet lol.
Honestly i dont care though because all other tablets are priced 100-200 more and have lower hardware specs.
I can live with the screen considering it really isnt too bad... just by comparison it isnt as good as the iPad.
I cant compare 7" tablets though... because ... frankly they are 7 inches... you squeeze more pixels into a smaller screen and it will look nicer... simple as that.
If you think about it... us early g-tab adopters can hack ours up and when we want a new one ... probably sell a hacked up gtab for a pretty penny when we are done with it.
I'm not sure why there are so many complaints. How often are you going to look at a tablet at sharp angles?? The only legitimate angle that someone mentioned was if the tablet was laying flat on a table in front of you and you were reading an eBook or something.
Maybe it's just the way I use it, but I don't have a problem with the screen at all.

Landscape Mode is Fine but I Cant stand it when Im Trying to read a Book in Portrait mode. Kinda have to tilt it and it just looks stupid. This tablet is Best Landscape only. Thats why It Would be Nice to have a Better Screen With Better Angles. Theres 3 Versions of the LCD Screen I Mentioned on the first post. I Wonder if one of those would fit....hmmm....
Hey I was wondering if there was a way I could remount my gtab screen. The viewing angles r much better when it's upside down, I want to make it my default display. Also r there any Ips screens for the tablet?
Yes and no to the first question.
Yes, you could. But no, because the video cable is not long enough to flip it around. Although, if you were able to extend the cable you could definitely flip it around.
I have not seen or heard of any IPS screens for it, but I haven't investigated that very much.
There is a very long thread on here about LCDs for the G tablet. it's worth a read. No IPS screens yet.
This screen is perfect for me upside down. If everything would work upside down, I'd buy two more of these.
It would be great if someone could figure out how to 'trick' the G tab into thinking that upside down was the right way up!! Is that possible, guys??
You should really familiarize yourself with the search feature.
as goog64 said it has been asked and answered before.
Search: screen, upside, down
The screen on my gTablet got cracked over the summer. I have scoured the web, made several inquiries with some supposed suppliers of the screen. but to no avail. I have managed to find an LCD replacement source, but the problem is finding a suitable digitizer. I have since thrown up my hands on the whole issue.
The tablet itself works fine, despite the cracked glass digitizer, and cracked lcd. It has been modded with Bottle of Smoke Honeycomb ROM. If anyone has a unit that has either been bricked or has hardware that has gone bad this GTab might suit your needs as all of the hardware is working except the display (works but cracked).
I decide I would give the folks here first crack at it before I put it on ebay as a parts tablet. I you are interested PM me with best offers.
While I still remain fond of the gtab, I have opted get get something a little more rugged and equipped with gorilla glass, so I don't have this problem again.
[Edit] There is also a Malata Dock w/ USB, ethernet, and HDMI out, and the Malata flip/fold leather-et case.
There is a replacement LCD on amazon.
Check here:
scroll down to screen replacement.

The amazon screen is here:

good luck.
The LCD is the easy part to replace. I have fond many vendors with the right LCD screen. The Digitizer a separate piece of glass is where the problem lies, they simply are not available anywhere.
damn, well I took apart my gtablet because I was having trouble charging,i have a small crack and now the touchscreen is messed up, pretty much a big deadspot and its not sensitive anywhere.
im okay with the small crack, but having a bad touchscreen on a tablet is kind of bad.
The ASUS comes in tomorrow, and I'm looking forward to it. But to wrap this saga up, I am really disappointed in the total lack of support for this tablet by Viewsonic, and whomever they had to OEM it. I would have expected better from them.
This experience will certainly be considered the next time I need to replace monitors, etc. I used to be a really big Viewsonic fan.
Needless to say, there will be another Viewsoninc tab on ebay for parts...

Did you end up putting this on ebay? If not, I'm in need of the power/volume ribbon. Mine cracked.

Tigerdirect have refurbed gtabs going for $149 at the moment, been thinking about buying one of those as a backup in case anything happens to my own gtab.
Closing thread, device sales are only allowed through the market.

So I recently broke the screen to my phone and it was working fine but yesterday I started to get lines across the screen and cannot use anymore.
Figured its time to finally buy a replacement screen and I want the one already on the frame. I just can't seem to find one specific to the Korean models the 915 S/K/L.
Instead there are only ones for 915 P/T which is the American models. After looking between the 2 frames many many times I can only spot one difference between the two which is the positioning of the thermal tape right under the one for the CPU. All in all I think it should fit but still hesitant. Does anyone have experience replacing screens on the Edge who has any experience you could share with me.
The first picture is of the frame from my N915S and the second frame is for a listing I have been looking to buy which is for the N915P
Welp, I just tried my luck and ordered the part in and it fit everything without a problem.
For anyone in a similar situation for me it seems like the frames for this phone will fit with all models.

My screen is broken. It's not annoying but i hate it. How in lord's name did you manage to replace your glass and how much did it cost and how much did it cost to replace and where did you replace it at?

Replaced it myself, it's easier to buy the entire frame assembly + screen rather than just the screen as taking off the screen off the frame is a pain.
Also if you buy frame + screen you have a better chance at finding OEM parts rather than chinese knockoff.
Gotta warn you though the replacement for a screen costs more than some whole phones.
Something like this would be optimal: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Excellent-Bl...241748?hash=item4af43d5b94:g:VxkAAOSwT4lWThZa
Tutorial on how to swap over all the parts here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYEwEHRki_8
Mine is the Korean model the 915S and the frame I bought was for 915T and 915P but everything still fit so it shouldn't matter which model frame you buy.

Thanks I'll check it out. And yeah while the pricing is huge, this phone is a one of a kind phone. It still doesn't justify the pricing but I'll let it slide because of how much this phone has helped me out with the multi screen and its note taking features

That's the exact same reason why I wanted to get this fixed. I usually sell off phones before buying a new one but want to keep this around as the first curved phone I ever owned.
Also found out that the headphone jack needs to be replaced with the one that matches your motherboard. Was trying to get audio to work in my car for hours before finding out that the issue was on the phone haha
I have ordered this one
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Fast...90.html?spm=2114.13010208.99999999.274.5R2YVv
for a common dreaded problem of having vertical green lines appearing on LCD from nowhere (although my fault, it got it dropped on flat floor from my shoulder height a couple of times). In my case the green lines are appearing on the edge panel itself only, so the old LCD maybe useful for me to keep just for an emergency replacement as well.
Does this one looks ok, I mean any of the replacement LCD+Frame+Digitizer combo ordered from either ebay or china would rather be coming from only a handful or sources (resellers), and maybe only one or two manufacturers (who might be manufacturing it as OEM as well).
How was your experience with the replacement LCD, does it looks and feels just like original in screen clarity, colours and touch responsiveness.
Thanks for sharing your experience.

I bought mine with a cracked screen and replaced it myself. It was my first time repairing a smartphone and I followed the same instructions as the Youtube video linked above.
I found the process quite easy, luckily most of the components have screws and the video is easy to follow so I was done after 20 minutes. I can't compare with the previous screen by if I do a comparison with other phones we have at home (Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro, Nexus 6) the screen looks fantastic!
