There is something wrong then. Try installing watchdog and see if there are any processes using a high percentage. It could be an app, and you might have a bad device. Try all your options first, there is more about this in the current battery thread here which is where this post really belongs.

Best battery? Battery life is all relative. Every single person will experience different battery life. The apps you have installed, the amount of time you spend on it and the time you spend on/in each app, distance from cell towers, distance from Wi-Fi sources, settings you have for every app and things like sync and what not.
There is no single variable that will ever help any of us find out what the best battery life is.
All the settings in the world won't help you achieve the 2 days I'm getting because I use mine differently that you, I have different apps on mine that you, I am at different distances from cell and Wi-Fi towers/antennas than you.
The best battery life is what you get out of yours.
right now watch dog says used 8% idle 59% apps 62

IMHO that would be a huge mistake, but it is your choice. Just one that I think you would end up regretting.

And it only has 512MB of RAM, no SD card expansion, built by Sammy (and that isn't a good thing). It's a step down. No HSPA+ support.
You have to understand that the Nexus S is a dev phone that is oddly being offered to the public. It's not really even meant to go head to head with phones like the MT4G and others. It's a pure developer phone.
But again, it's your choice.
you are right in a way but i feel that gingerbread has fixed the battery issue and we will have to wait for ever to get gingerbread on our mytouch. And whats up with the youtube app? it is still not fixed with the ota

Set setcpu to powersave mode and ther you go. Problem solved. Or try recalibrating you battery. Use phone till it dies completly then plug in charger without powering on delete your batt stats in recovery before u power on after charging your phone completly while its off. Phone battery recalibrated!

There are some threads in the development section. The true permroot thread has a guide to flash back to S-on and you can even flash back your original Hboot. I have done it before and it is not hard.
I don't know how long you have had your device but I would give it some time if you have only had it a few days. If you are about to run out of your remorse period then a exchange should be of concern. If you bought it from a retail store you can just go back in and get another one. If you bought it from the internet then you will have to call them and get them to send you a new one.
PS: I assume you are on the software 2.2.1 right?

Hello everyone,
Im planning to get this phone off craigslist but im afraid that the phone that i am about to purchase is going to have the reboot/freeze issue. Im not worried about the screen bleeding though. So can you tell me an easy way to identify if the phone has this problem? I know il come to know eventually once i purchase it but i wanted to see at the time of purchase from the seller. So please any suggestions are welcome. (some specific manufacturer date, or packaged date or location on the box etc ) any details that will help me if there is any specific pattern for this.
Thanks in advance.

Hmm
Thanks for the response. yeah i have seen that it is coming soon (and i like the way it looks) but i dont want to wait for it a month more(to be available with out contract by the same way).
Also,
1) i want to have an unlocked bootloader as a precautionary measure just incase i get to start to flashing roms
2) Heard that Sense eats lot of RAM and i want an option to remove it if i feel the same
3) Im sure it is gonna cost lot more than the G2x.
4) And i feel G2x's GPU would be powerful than the sensation.

The only thing I can think to do to check the phone is ask the owner not to reboot the phone for any reason and when you go to purchase it look and see how long the phone has been on since reboot and If it doesn't match up with what the owner says it is probably rebooting. I have had two so far and had no real reboot issues plus from what I have read LG is aware of the issue and will be issuing an update soon for the bugs. I also debated on the Sensation but decided to stick with the G2X. Hope this helped
So here's a guy who has gotten both the galaxy s 2 and the htc sensation.

From what hes been saying on twitter and the videos Ive watched i think apart from the animations and ui I think id rather have the g2x
The ui is very ram heavy but its very beautiful so I guess its a trade off.
Apologies if I'm breaking any forum rules here, but Costco currently has the G2X for $49.99 if you are adding a line. You might use this info when dealing with your CL seller! Comes with a car charger and BT headset. I'm off to Costco right now to get one!

I have confidence that the sensation will get root access eventually, but the process to root may be harder compared to say the G2 or the G2x, and that's still an if it gets rooted. Htc and battery life is always an issue, and the sense ui plain sucks. It does not even look good and I don't know why htc insists on making it so you are forced to use it...it should be optional.

but I am un interested....
I got a cappy and love it but my wife dont so i got her a HTC inspire and its SUC on battery life!! She hate it so i need help choosing new phone for her. Thanks guys
Atrix or Infuse? or? Att network only.
I would definately get her the Infuse, although you will then have the problem of being jealous of wifey's new phone, lol. I am in the opposite position. My gf loves my cappy and I can take it or leave it, so when I get my infuse next month she will inherit my cappy. The Atrix just feels too plastic/junky to me and odds are there will be far more options for modding the infuse than the Atrix. Take her to the AT$T store and let her monkey with both of them a bit. Good luck!
my girlfriend got an inspire a few weeks ago and hers gets awesome battery life, she can go two days before charging, and thats pretty heavy use, but stock it wasnt that great, i installed rcmix3d
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=984805
you might try it, seems to work pretty darn good for battery, failing that, i would go with the infuse
Most phones have similar battery life. With 3G data on, you will not pass two-day mark of normal usage. If you want longer battery life, switch to 2G or turn off data.
For ladies that usually don't like to tweak their phones, an iPhone or WP7 phone is more appropriate choice, IMO. My wife certainly don't like my Captivate at all (me neither ).
What exactly does this thread have to do with the captivate?
Sorry, just seeing as this is the captivate general sub-forum, you'd think it would have at least something to do with the device.
Thanks for all the replie everyone. I rooted the inspire and try couple diff rom and battery still bad. Unplug in the morning and it down to 30 percent by 3pm with little to no use. im going to get her an infuse and well see how its work out. Thanks to ATT 30 days trial.

Normal use doesn't mean play games for an hour. None of my friends ever bring a spare battery with their HTC phones, even the one with HTC TB. I'm pretty sure my Captivate will pretty much dead if I play games for an hour.
Due to several issues with ATT support and service my wife and I paid our ETFs to terminate our contract. The other night we were looking at T-Mobile and found a cheaper but better plan then what is offered by ATT and the free G2Xs, we jumped on board.
My question is will we like this phone? I have been doing some reading and it sounds like there might be some hardware or software issues. What is the general consensus on this forum about the phone overall? I'm coming from an HTC Aria which was rooted and running an AOSP build and I love it. My wife is coming from a 3GS, which she loves but is willing to try Android.
My phone is perfectly fine, I've only run into reboots when messing with voltages in setCPU.
Cyanogenmod nightly and fauxs kernel works brilliantly.
If you like a crazy fast phone with amazing graphics rendering and fantastic sound then you will love the phone. With Gingerbread most of the problems have been mitigated. Plus you got in on the free deal so you can't beat the price.
You'll like it.

Ever since I updated 2.3.3 (did it only to get baseband) phone is solid. Had growing pains but I'm happy with it. Might just sell the myTouch 4G spare I have. I see no need to move back to it.
Just make sure its updated with latest 2.3.3 you can flash a custom ROM. Can't speak for 2.3.3 because haven't used a stock ROM in ages.
Hardware wise its best phone, despite the bad PR
Why come to Tmobile if you are trying to leave AT&T, when it is very possible that Tmobile will be AT&T soon?

Phone is awesome. LG/Tmobile firmware is decent with the GB upgrade. If you flash a custom rom to this thing then it is freaking amazing. Its a very powerful phone. The unlocked bootloader gives us so much freedom for customizing. Whether you decide to flash roms or not, use the nvflash tool in the development section to put clockworkmod recovery on your phones. Its much more useful than stock recovery, and if you ever want to flash a rom you're all set to do so. Just remember to revert back to stock recovery (using the same nvflash tool) if you have to ever return the phones to T-Mobile for any reason.

They charge slower, and keep the temperature down. I have like 3 of these hanging around.
Seriously after my full rest, the phone was noticeable cooler. This on 2.2 might not be valid on 2.3 but likely is

I love this phone, +1 for what everyone else said. Its got its issues but its still the best phone out there. The screen resolution IMO beats out any Samsung samoled, hands down. The bad news for you though is that it's more than likely going to be a snafu for you if you go with tmo. It looks like att will be buying them as of next year some time. My phone works fine now after about 5-6 of them but their giving this phone away for free for a reason and that's because its a piece of crap. My previous phone was a HTC Aria, small and under powered compared to the new phones on the market. That being said I love the Aria; easy to root and very durable. I have looked into newer HTC devices and I have "read" that the sensation has some design issues or flaws with the screen? Digitizer? I don't think you'll find a phone out there without problems. I gave the G2X a try because I didn't want to spend any money on new phones considering I have paid my way out of an ATT contract. If the Phone is crap I can go back to my unlocked Aria.

Have you ever considered running errant apps has caused your problems? My G2X has been updated to GB, never reboots, never lockups, the wifi is perfect and screen bleed is a non issue. I never use my phone in a dark room with the brightness turned all the way up with a black background. That is the only way to see the so-called screen bleed. All IPS backlight displays have it, and I have had it on every notebook I have ever owned. It is normal and for normal usage a complete non issue. I am using my phone stock and unrooted.

I have an HTC Shift that is now a replacement phone Sprint sent because the other Shift bricked on a OTA update. The phone itself looks brand new. (we have had it since Apriil) The problem with the phone is that it will never charge the battery. I actually have 3 spare batteries so in total 4 batteries are charged to 100% but as soon as I put them into the Shift device the battery status will range from 0% to 8% an occassionally will charge to 12% but no higher. If I take the battery out and put it into another HTC it will show 95% or better as charged - to be clear this is the same battery that just seconds before registered 12% or less.
I've tried everything. I've changed Roms (the good thing about this is that I can tell you the ins and outs on about 12 different Roms and kernels now) I've changed up kernels. I installed Bettery Battery, battery calibration tools, spare parts...booted it up empty, let it stay off and "charge" all night, on and charge all night, factory reset, everything but RUU because it just won't do it and HTC update, won't do that either because of the battery being below 30%.
OK, so you say - take it back to Sprint and get a new one - can't do that because I can't unroot it with the RUU as it still shows s-off -
I'm brain dead on this one.
I'm not a newbie at this. I've rooted several phones, HTC, LG, Palm Pre, even turned the Palm Pixie to a wifi goddess in it's day by switching out the radio(you know). I've jailbroke the Iphone and Ipad. Rooted my Thrive and turned a pandigital into a sweet little android.
I don't want to take the phone back like it is. I want to figure out what the heck is the issue. (i know...i know) When I plug the phone in the led comes on as though it is charging but it never charges...any ideas? you know it's probably something simple and I've just fried my brain at this point. Any ideas? Anybody??
Thanks in advance for any input, ideas or helpful tips!

My girlfriend's phone has the EXACT SAME ISSUE. No idea how to fix, I figure there's a contact or sensor hw at fault. It's not ROM specific, flashing a new rom won't make a diff. As soon as the gf or I get a new phone, I'll mess with the device itself.
Best advice - return it!

I think she knew i was rooted cause she told me i won't get in trouble but i just was like nope i don't want a flagged account so i'll be back in 30 minutes. She gave up at that point

How I got stuck was I was having like extremely poor service and was waiting on a call back from them, and through reading what people said about them never calling I thought I was safe, about 30 minutes after I flashed cm7 a rep called and wanted me to go into epst and at that time I was so new to being a rooted user I had no idea it wasn't in aosp. So I tried the ## code and when she asked what happened I said nothing she said ok hang on while I flag your account. My first words to the rep was are you fu**ing kidden me! So I stabbed back by tethering to my ps3 while playing Modern Warfare lol

So...unroot before taking. As it says, there's an issue with reading the battery correctly. It's charging the battery, because when it goes into another phone, it shows the correct percentage.
It -has- to be a hardware issue. Unroot, RUU, whatever... there isn't an easy fix for this without messing with the hardware (which will likely result in ruining the device).
If the flex cables were shot, you'd all recommend the same thing. What's the difference with this?
There is a newer and easier way to unroot HERE
So my wife's HOX has taken a nose dive in performance and battery life since taking the update to JB.
*Disclaimer* if you feel so inclined to help me, please don't sit there and tell me this is brought on by my wife being dumb. She's not rooting and ROMing like us, but she's not so bad that I'd recommend she use an iPhone. In other words, I don't think she is the cause of these issues.
Performance is laggy, especially with texting and web browsing on or off WiFi. She gets about 6 hours on a charge (100% to dead) with light/medium use. She has never complained about battery life or performance on ICS.
A few days ago I went into her phone and removed excess apps, and disabled the AT&T bloatware. Didn't help though.
Her HOX is completely stock...no launchers, custom browsers, or text messaging apps.
She's going to the AT&T store soon, but I doubt those goons will be able to help.
Does anybody have any idea what to do next to troubleshoot?
Duely blundered from my thunderdolt.
I think it's a wife thing lol.
My wife's one x+ is laggy as hell.. SwiftKey runs like absolute ****. However could a quad core phone running the stock rom be so laggy?
Good luck with it
Disable Google maps and GPS
Put Gsam battery monitor or betterbatterystats on her phone and monitor wakelocks

it's not your wife, i can tell you that. I'm having the identical issue. my HOX is bone stock bc it's a work phone and I can't root, so i went with the OTA for this. love th features, but the battery life has been halved on a good day.
it's due to wakelocks, as mentioned, and shows as though it's from maps. but really, some internet research has shown that many believe it's due to a media scanning function as well as the way that both google and 3rd party apps are using location services (which ends up being reflected as a "maps" app function. regardless, i have no idea what to do, but there are various suggestions regarding this...

have a look and, as said eariler, get BetteryBatteryStats, or similar, and monitor the wakelocks.
There are ways of fixing this, but they require rooting to stop various things from running in the background.
Myself, I have excellent battery life on JB; I can almost go two days without a charge.
I have pretty good battery life on JB also (knock on wood) the only time it tanks when I'm in a very poor coverage area, then the phone gets a little hot too but disabling "syncing" brings it back to normal usage. You might wanna try that. Also there's a Qualcomm made app in the play store that helps with battery life and also allows you to customize the syncing.

A factory reset usually helps a lot of those problems after a big update.

The 3.18 RUU is now posted on HTC's website (as well as the RUU thread in General): http://www.htc.com/us/support/news.aspx?p_id=464&p_name=htc-one-x-att

Heh. Another user actually PMed me and told me about it.
Otherwise, it was pretty stealth. It got added to the RUU thread, and talked about in a couple other threads, but nobody made a thread announcing it or anything.

I wanted to, but this is my wife's phone. She wasn't 100% behind the idea of rooting and such. She's onboard now...and it's too late.

Maybe I'm being a noob, but how does this RUU help when we're talking about no root or S off?
Duely blundered from my thunderdolt.
RUU is basically flashing everything all over, including the radio, kernel, etc.
I had similar problems with my HOX prior to the update, and a factory reset took care of the problem. I could normally get about 16 hours out of the phone during the week, and still have juice in the tank when going to sleep. Then one day something was misbehaving, and the phone died in about 8 hours, with hardly any use. I think that it's more of an HTC thing...they need to be punted every now and then. Personally, I've had very good battery life since the update, and things have run very smooth (except for G+, but it think that's a G+ thing), but I find that I have to reboot the phone about once a week to flush the cache (since HTC can't seem to execute proper memory management on their devices) when things get bogged down.
Sounds like I need to do a reset then, and possibly reflash the OTA (which I can do without root access, right?).
Thanks for all the info chums. It's good to know that I'm not the only one, and that we can still make use if this awesome device.
Here's hoping we get another way to root and S-off.
