I am in Canada and got a g tablet from nearby US City. If I want t use as stock, te tapntap ui does not allow me to enter a city that s not from the USA. Any way to remedy this?
Canadoc,
I travel outside of the US and I could not find a way to enter a city outside of the US.
This is a fail for anyone hoping to use the g tab in stock form out of US

Hi!
I am living in Mexico and especially as a foreigner it is very easy to get lost here.
So I am looking for a GPS navigation software for my new HTC Touch HD with street level maps for Puebla and other major cities in this country. Buying a seperate device just for GPS (like from Garmin) is not an option.
I did some web search with very confusing results. One product I found was Garming XT which is a no go for me since - as far as I understood - it only works with the provided SD card and I do not want to touch the battery cover every time I need swich the card for running the application.
Destinator 7 seems to have a new 2008 streetmap of Mexico but I have not found a store where to buy it - just some crappy mexican internet sites which don't look very professional and trustworty. There are also some reports of a version 8 of the software but no place to buy it.
It's unbelieveable but Mexico seems to be one of the last white spots on earth regarding GPS street level maps.
Can somebody who has more experience with this GPS stuff help me out with ideas, suggestions and/or probably links to serious stores, please?
Thanks a lot in advance.
I can't help out, but I'm looking for similar for our trip across Mexico at the end of this year.
Tomtom have just released their MExico Map
XT does have the provision to show (MapQuest?) maps of Mexico, but you can buy it as a download (I'm sure.)
If you find anything else, let me know!
Buena Suerte!
Recently acquired an LG Town/Etna Plus, but I don't live in Europe, where the phones work (I live in the States). The only way I would be able to use it is if I downloaded and installed an unlocked ROM. Does anyone know of one? Thanks in advanced!
Hello everyone,
I've been searching sometime for an answer but I seem to keep getting conflicting information. Here's the gist: I'm moving to South Korea long term and I have a Samsung Nexus S that was purchased through Koodoo. Works like a sweet machine and I'm loath to give it up. I'm just wondering if it will work when I bring it over instead of forking out money again for another smartphone.
Reasons I think it will work: Nexus S seems to have a wide range of frequencies that it is compatible with, designed to be a world phone, etc.
Reasons I think it might not work: I keep hearing different information on South Korean frequencies from CDMA only to god-knows-what.
Can anyone out here help? It's quite confusing to me. If it won't work then I'll likely try to resell it (still in pristine condition) before leaving instead of bringing it all the way over and it being unusable. However if it does work, again, it would save me buying a new smartphone over there which will probably cost me more in the long run.
Any advice is MUCH appreciated. Thanks!
I'd like to say that it should work fine in S.Korea givin that the i9020 is basically the m200(Korean nexus s). I'm not completely sure though, I can be wrong so don't count me in on it 100%. If it's possible I would contact a Korean GSM telco through email and ask, they'll know if your nexus s is compatible with their bands. I would do that JUST to make sure
What model of Nexus do you have? Do you what bands/frequencies South Korea service providers use?
Hi everyone.
I am a newb to Android, and I have a difficult situation at hand.
Here is my long and winding story.
I am currently living in Canada, using Rogers Mobile, and someone is giving me a Galaxy Note from South Korea (SHV-E-160S).
It is unlocked.
Will I be able to use this phone in Canada? I don't have a data plan so using 3G or LTE or anything like that is not a major problem.
Also, if I root it, will I be able to use any useful custom roms? or is that impossible because of the lack of developer support?
Here is the second part of my problem. If I opt to sell the Note, and get a galaxy S3, which model should I be looking into?
I am trying to use the phone in both Canada and in South Korea, and I want it to work on both. However, I know that Rogers is GSM and most of the networks in South Korea are WCDMA. Also, which model has the best developer support for ROMs?
Sorry, I just have so many questions and not enough answers anywhere.. Please help!
The note will work.
The international gs3 will work in Korea
Sent from my U8150 using XDA
Yes you should be able to use it!
And be able to root and customize it as well!
Btw...the galaxy note is a stable phone...but if you are still opting to sell it...then the galaxy s3 international version will do!
It should work in South Korea and Canada as well!
Dont know as to which model has the best developer support yet...Sorry!
Am about to take the plunge and join the Galaxy Note 10.1 family.
I have a choice of buying this in the UK or the US.
However I will only be able to connect the device to the internet to receive updates in the UK or in Sri Lanka (!).
If I buy a US model will I be able to connect to the internet and receive official Samsung updates in the UK or another country?
Thanks to anyone who can shed some light on this matter for me.
(The US model I'm thinking of is from Negri Electronics: black 3g model with SKU SMGGALNOT16UB)
I think the way updates work are every model number has a country code built in and when checking for update the same information is sent and hence it connects to the server of that particular country so irrespect of with country you are in you will only receive update for country of orgin
Thanks Samir,
Guess I could get either one then. Any idea if the UK or US market is likely to get updates sooner?
Also, does anyone know if the black 3G unit is officially available in the US? I'm wondering if Negri is selling some international unit.
Plus, OT, but any idea if a 32GB 3G model is available anywhere?
I think US is the last one to get updates but its not that far away from others, No officially 3G version is not available in US sorry I am not from US but my opinion is based on user feedback given in this forum.
As far as 32GB version I have no clue to be frank
JB hifi in Australia sells the 3g 32gb model though I don't know if they post overseas... It's about $800AUD, not sure about postage...
