Droid2 Global with Blur Accounts? - Droid 2 Global General

Has anyone seen anything called blur accounts where you can setup an account with moto. You can then locate phone, wipe phone remotely and do some other stuff? I can not find it in the stock ROM but it some how showed up in a ROM I am making based on stock rom.

The only blur accounts I have seen is the normal blur where it links all of your e-mail and social networks accounts together.

According to Motorola's website, the Droid family of phones do not incorporate full blur os. But they do include the Blur widgets that may be used on top of the standard android operating system.
I see people say that the Droid 2 is running blur, but the only commonality I see with the blur phones and the D2 is just in the available widgets. The launcher is completely different.
I may be wrong on this, but if you check the Moto site for phones running blur Droid's are not listed.

taken from the motoblur wikipedia:
"Motoblur is currently on Motorola's CLIQ/DEXT, Backflip, Devour, Flipout, Charm, Droid Pro, Flipside, DEFY, Droid X and Droid 2, although the version found on the Droid X, Droid Pro, and Droid 2 are toned down and intended to be less intrusive than previous versions."

[Q] Where does the OS stop and the GUI start?

So after being all excited about Atrix I found that MOTOBLUR might be a big downside on the device. having never used a Motorola Android before (HTC guy here) I didn't understand what the big fuss is all about, thinking that MOTOBLUR is just a launcher that you can get rid of in 2 minutes by installing LP or ADW or one of the other options (and that's even before flashing a different version altogether).
However, I was told that this was not the case, and that MOTOBLUR is not just a home launcher, but rather takes over "more parts" of the phone than a launcher.
I'm trying to understand - what does that include?
And generally speaking - how can the part of the "GUI" be defined on the Android OS? meaning how much customization power does Motorola / Samsung / HTC / LG have when customizing a device?
Will it be acceptable to say that since Android is an Open Source OS, each vendor can choose to customize as "deeply" as he wishes? and MOTOBLUR is just a rather "deep" customization UI which is largely considered as... no good?
Thankfully I don't have the MOTOBLUR on my Milestone. Oddly, it's stock 2.1 (sadly Hong Kong hasn't gotten the 2.2 just yet).
Yes, Android OS is open source and the companies have pretty much full reign. Hell, China has their own version that they've thoroughly hacked together for China phones (I think it's something like MOS...) which is a horribly done thing.
To get the Google certification/apps they have to meet hardware specs, but not sure about the software side.
As for MOTOBLUR (which I've heard is AT&T branding only) I'm betting it's much like Sense UI (for HTC). The "much more" is probably the widgets and apps/crapware thrown in with the UI updates.
It's my thoughts and if I'm totally wrong, my apologies.
EDIT: autocorrect typo fix

Yeah China Mobile created Ophone later named OMS:

Regarding MOTOBLUR being like Sense, ok but that's exactly the point - the Widgets can be thrown out altogether if you use a different launcher, and the apps are much like we have "Amazon MP3" for example on my Dezire Z stock. so I ask again... what's the big deal about MOTOBLUR being the devil?

A few miscellaneous questions about android devices

I've just been wondering a couple assorted things about android devices.
1. the "droid" naming scheme originally seemed to be Motorola exclusive, yet HTC has the droid incredible and Samsung has the Droid Charge. Yet, almost all of Moto's phones still begin with the "Droid" moniker. How is it determined whether or not it's a "droid?" is it determined by it being on Verizon, or is it licensed out by Motorola or something? I mean, they didn't call the Thunderbolt the Droid thunderbolt.
2. The somewhat iconic HTC sense clock widget is something I've seen in a lot of Winmo pictures, like the HD2. Why is it the same between them? are they both just unique widgets designed by HTC?
3. Was there a naming scheme before Android Cupcake? Was there and A or B dessert used for earlier versions?
I think that's all I've got. I guess I'll post more if I think of any. And hey, if you have any questions like this post them here.

Droid is a LucasFilms trademark licensed to Verizon. I'm not sure what criteria Verizon uses for the Droid label.

1.0 and 1.1 were just plain Android.

The iconic clock is basically a trademark look HTC has on its phones. Doesn't matter if it's Winmo or android, HTC puts that clock design on its devices. I like it and used Fancy Widget to put it on my phone

Replacing Droid 2, need advice

Hello everyone.
With my D2 already having a failed power button (replacement should be here tomorrow), and with Motorola historically being very quiet regarding any updates, support, lousy updates etc as of late (though I do own a Xoom which I love), I have an early upgrade next month and thinking of taking it.
Here are some things to consider:
- I have Verizon Wireless
- Upgrade due on 7/28
- Have traditionally had moto handsets, and have the Droid 2 now
- Prefer the qwerty keyboard but can part with it for a soft one
- Larger screens are nice
- Need plenty of oomph and upgradeability (e.g. my phone had the 8gb internal storage for plenty of future proof upgrades...well in theory anyways)
- A plus if custom roms available
I would also like to start with a gingerbread phone at this point. Froyo was great but the D2 stock rom is total crap and Liberty was its only saving grace for a long time.
So, what is it that people prefer/suggest?
tbh, the dev community is probably the most active with the droid incredible, and one can be purchased online for under $200, saving your upgrade for a future device.
IF you want a new phone, the Thunderbolt has a wonderful dev community.

The inc is a great phone with awesome support (CM7, MIUI, sense 3.0, etc) but it is getting a little outdated. Thunderbolt has decent dev support but I think the specs of it will pale in comparison to the dual core phones coming out this summer. THE android phone currently is the galaxy s2, which will be coming to Verizon, hopefully sooner rather than later. Droid bionic will likely be here before too long, as well as the Droid 3. Unfortunately, with moto locking their phones down, you're at their mercy for updates and have limited options when it comes to roms. It all depends on what you want in a phone. I currently have an incredible and would highly recommend it, but I'd look into the phones that will be coming out this summer to see if they might better suit your wants/needs.
Incredible 2!!!

If you've seen the specs for the D3...what a disappointement.
Not much more than an OC'ed D2.
My thing about Moto is the sheer lack of communication to the customer, it really sucks when everyone is getting an update and you are totally left in the dark till it magically appears on your phone.
I'm about to pick up my replacement D2 tonight..will be interesting to see if its a D2 or if it will be a D2G...
IMO, anything by HTC at this point if you want good dev support. They're planning on providing unlocked bootloaders to all their phones (possibly trying to retroactively unlock their bootloaders as well), and even going to release their Sense SDK sometime in the future.
The Droid 3 is a big upgrade with the qHD screen, OMAP4, and front facing camera. Also OMAP4 is the first processor certified for Netflix HD. The only issue will be the bootloader. With the Atrix now open, here's hoping the Droid 3 and/or the Bionic will be opened (either right away for shortly after launch).

Droid Daydream

hi , Motorola has a daydream app called droid dream.. I just got rid of my droid maxx and I loved that app (more of a theme)here is a link to it
http://www.behance.net/gallery/Droid-Dream/10287859
My question is... is it possible to get this on the HTc ONE MAX? and could someone do it?
DROID Dream is a screensaver like experience that is currently available on the 2013 DROID Ultra and Maxx smartphones by Motorola. This feature allows users to see time, date, and recent notifications while the phone is docked or being charged. The information block simply shifts up and down slowly over any type of wallpaper. This project was done as part of an internship with Motorola Mobility in Chicago
I was wondering if it was possible to get on my htc one maxx..
Thank you in advance.

Mobile phones w/ customizable voice commands?

I check with the group periodically, so see if there are any phones on the market that function like the old Motorola Moto X Pure or other Motorola Phones with Moto Voice software. With those phones, You could create custom wake up phrases, go back and forth through your emails or messages and have the read aloud, get GPS coordinates, and more all 100% hands free, which was great if you drive a lot for a living.
Sadly, Lenovo discontinued this. (Never a big fan of motorola phones after that)
Anybody seen or heard of any phones like that on the market?
Thanks!
