update coming dec 16th - G Tablet General

While at the store a Viewsonic showed up and was asking me what I though about the unit, he assured me that Dec 16th would be a turning point for the device and joked that they rushed the unit to the market with the firmware being horrible. In fact he said it was a -2 on a scale 1-100, Lol, I agreed and told him the update was better but still not worth the 379.00, he then told me to root it or wait till Dec 16th that the update will add flash and several other features but will make the unit run optimizing both cores and currently it was only running on 1.
I am getting closer to thinking about buying it, I overall like the unit and I am not disappointed with the display it is decent.

It's funny how that's the same day the Nexus S with Gingerbread will be available from Best Buy lol
I doubt this update will be 2.3 though

I hope this is true. I love this tablet, and if viewsonic keeps pace with what Google is developing it could prove to be a good investment.

This is definitely good news. Hopefully whatever software upgrade this thing gets, the screen sensitivity issue is addressed. While flash is great, it means nothing if I can barely type the web address to get to the flash-based site.
Looking forward to December 16- at least it'll be in my 30 day window for a return.

but even with an update from viewsonic the custom roms mean nothing right? ... ok say they release a update that fixes the screen touching issue and optimizes it for both cores unless your running the stock software viewsonic released it with your not going to see any of those benefits right?

What the hell are you talking about? The point of my post was pointing out that they should worry less about flash and more about making the touchscreen work.

actually i wasn't posting in reference to what you said i was asking a genral question im kinda new at this i was wonder if the update was saved in a different partition of the device so that the fixes would work on custom rom i wasnt trying to counteract anyones post!! sorry if you misunderstood stood

what it will mean is that the guys who build the rom will port over the changes to the custom rom So if something addresses speed or touchscreen issues then it will make the custom roms even better

gotcha thank you so much for your replie i was seriously unclear thats all every one is a noob at some point

Not on Day One, that's correct. Day Two will be another story.
Don't worry, I'm all prepped - TnT Lite 3.0.0 one day after the firmware is released. The only issue is don't believe what a SEARS / Staples rep tells you, as they don't know any more than we do. While I'm sure Flash will be in there, we don't know what else will be added.
I hope it's blazing fast with all the major bugs fixed, but we just don't know yet.

He was there setting up the current update on all these units so that he could train staff they according to him had not really sold well through out all the stores

Not questioning your info, but am the rep. Why was he at a furniture store if concerned about G sales? Should he not be at Sears, Office Depot or Staples? Maybe I read your note wrong.
I would not expect a furniture store to be a critical channel partner that VS would spend money sending a rep to train staff. If they did, that could explain why the G was launched as it was

XDA is no longer worth my time.

I had assumed you meant a SEARS or Staples rep, my bad then.
If this person was a VS rep, then I retract what I had written earlier - they might know more than we do. And that's a good thing.
I wish I had been there, as I would have totally picked this guy's brain. :O

No they sell electronics 2 not just furniture. I picked his brains pretty good but I still couldn't get a whole lot of info from him except he knows that everyone's not impressed with it so far

December 19

Tomorrow is the 19th.
Should we be expecting the big update...
Any idea's on what it will include in addition to flash ?
I have a feeling it's going to come and go. An their will be no updates.
Most likely they are going to wait a few days and then release a state-
ment that they are working on a major update and as soon as it's done
they will push it out.
I would say, second or third week of Jan. of 2011 for the next patch
from Viewsonic.
Looks like a wait and see ...

This awesome community already did. I just need SEARS to be kind enough to offer up an outlet device that I don't have to fly to, to pick up.
I keep hoping that someone offers a scratched up floor model on eBay, for a deep discount. That would be the perfect dev device for me.

I just purchased the one from Novi, MI, purchased one a week ago, and they sent it back, so I couldnt purchase it. So this time I called them right after I ordered it and made sure I get the product, and I'll tell them if its actually broken or not...

EDIT: Nothing. I've been scanning it on and off all morning. I actually saw a Freehold one about 2 weeks back, but I wasn't looking for an extra one at the time. Too bad, because Freehold is an hour away so definitely do-able.
If there is ANY truth to the Gtablet being pulled by Viewsonic, the CS line will be shut off anytime, within days and they will not bother with the FW release. All of this stuff costs money.

I have never had wireless or FC problems. I guess that is why I was never motivated to install a custom ROM. I just installed all the mods on the original UI.
On a related note. Since this update (supposedly) contains Flash for the g-tablet, should I remove the Flash hack first?

It's ALWAYS been the stock fw that wasn't any good. When I first got mine, I had this crazy idea of staying stock, but the original fw would always Force Close in the news page, and then the update resulted in the weather app Force Closing on me, so I moved onto custom fw and settled on TnT lite.
I might even go back to trying stock fw if TnT ever get their act together...
Now, I understand from the 3316(IIRC) thread that flash is still not included, but their website is still claiming that flash support would be released yesterday. (Odd day, Sunday, to release a fw update...)

Yes! They are releasing the kernel source

Viewsonic just tweeted this
"We will get s/w update out ASAP. We're also releasing the kernel this week. The gTablet should NEVER have been pulled.
CoTweet • 12/20/10 1:08 PM"
This must be in response to all our tweets. Wohoo g tab fo lyfe lol
or maybe they want people to clear inventory at the stores.
I'd be interested in knowing why it was pulled. As for the kernel source, I'll believe it when I see it. Call me jaded.

This is just a guess -- maybe Flash was supposed to go out, but somewhere along the line between R&D and Operations, that requirement was lost. So now, VS management is screaming at people to fix the debacle ASAP, especially since they also have to deal with the fallout of Staples pulling out the rug under them.
Kernel or Kernel Source?
I find it interesting that VS communications always refer to releasing the 'kernel' but never the 'kernel source'.

My Understanding is that it is that the tegra 2 processor has not been certified for Flash yet (or vice versa) so companies are shying away from putting flash on a machine running on a tegra 2 (Gtablet).
We are the test bed.

Looks like March 3rd/4th...

It looks like March 3rd/4th is the next rumored drop date for the TB. BGR is reporting an insider at VZW was at an event held last night with TB launch details etc.
http://www.bgr.com/2011/02/24/htc-thunderbolt-may-launch-on-march-3rd-or-4th-4g-lte/
-Lil'
I saw that in the Android Central forums, it's quite possible. If the date holds I can hold on another week. Of course it'd be nice for Verizon to say something.
I actually beleive this may really be the date, Im kind of relieved..
My local Verizon corp. store took down all their TB signs. They are only flying the iP4 signs now. There for a while the walls were plastered with TB ads and signs.
Which "MARCH MADNESS" are we going to watch the NCAA BASKETBALL or the VERIZON /HTC Thunderbolt madness ???????
It might be even later if they can't get the FW more stable. It looks like they are going to just release the device and then push a couple OTA after release.
I've had the Incredible since May of 2010(one of the lucky ones) and am amazed at the recent rom development for this phone. I am also eligible for an upgrade as I am the primary line account.
That being said, I am excited for the Thunderbolt; but I can wait for the release. Chances are Verizon may lower the price after 30 days or so, depending on how well its received.

I must have missed that info. Has anyone with credibility actually stated that, or is that just another rumor being thrown around? I would assume if they already shipped out plenty of units, the FW would be plenty stable.
Would you please post a link to the source of that concern.

I work for Qualcomm, and the device went gold since January. The Network is being fine tuned to handle the LTE devices, and iPhone traffic, but the firmware is not the reason. There were numerous tentative release dates, but Verizon publically stated 1Q. Iphone 4 was the first priority, but that's my opinion.

T-Mobile/LG releasing G2X information in a Few Days (not another rumor thread)

check tmo news.com right now.....unable to post link!
LG has continued to stick to it’s message of working fast and furious to push out a T-Mobile G2x Gingerbread update that contains various bug fixes. The problem is right now their message is something along the lines of “we know you are frustrated and we’re understanding so we hope to have some information to tell you soon.” What’s soon? Is it two days or two weeks as it’s already been a month that the G2x has been gone from T-Mobile.com. The time to tell us something has come and gone, now we’re moving into impatience.
Tonight’s information shows that LG hopes to deliver some information about the update in the next few days but not necessarily the update itself. As you can see in the Tweet above there is no indication that the “next few days” means an actual software release. So G2x owners are stuck playing the waiting game yet again. While I understand that neither T-Mobile nor LG wants to give a target date and miss it, perhaps it’s better than not saying anything at all.
@theLGgirl
Maybe a light at the end of the tunnel? I won't hold my breath, but still...

oh hey by the way i have a great deal for the first lucky person to contact me.
i have this bridge i am selling real cheap. its not made by lg or on tmobile its a good deal.
While I love my g2x, I can honestly say that I have never seen such a high end phone get pulled so quickly. LG borked it bog time and now the consumers pay. So T-Mobile exchanges the phone for a lower specification phone and expects us to pay MORE money for the so called "upgrade" to the Sensation. Personally I am pissed how this has been handled!

A lot of the stores are selling them when they have been asked not to. Why? Stores have to meet sales metrics. If you have a new customer signing up and they want the G2x, would you really tell them no?

lol no stores have been "asked not to sell" g2x's.
I dont know where you guys get all this crazy info from.
I have not seen one official email telling myself, or any other store in my region to not sell G2X's. (although we havent been getting our stock replenished for about 3 weeks now. we still have 2-3 in stock, but due to the recent price hike no one is really interested in the phone)
Bro think logically here...if it was recalled and they continue to sell them, and someone with a buggy phone found that out and could prove it, don't you think T-Mobile would end up losing alot more money with all the legit lawsuits then they would eating the cost of the recalled and discontinued g2x? Once again it hasn't been recalled?

Exactly, I don't understand why people are all up and arms about the monthly being late. Are you in a rush for something? If you have ants in your pants and itching to update something, just reflash your current version to curb your addiction. Everyone needs to relax and stop opening meaningless threads. Be patient and just wait for the update to come out.
Well, maybe because one of the reason they bought the phone is that it should be the first to get each monthly security update. It's google update for google products after all.
Turned out, this month, my S23U is getting update faster than my P7P.
Am not itching or b*tching about update. I just find it funny that google is lagging behind in an area where they should actually excel. Not to mention they only have less than 20 phone models in their portofolio to manage as well. Lol

Probably the same reason people talk about Pixel in Samsung forums. Justify a purchase, feel the need to lord it over if something is presumed better on one, really like their phone and want to convince others to like them too, tribalism, cult status.. all kinds of things. I just take it as entertainment on a Sunday morning. I do like the size specs on the S23 mini but then again it's a Sammy so...
As for the topic at hand I think if Google at least gave a reason for the delay that would appease many folks but that doesn't seem to be forthcoming. There are always little bugs we're hoping to squash with each monthly and maybe that's why everyone is wondering when. Even the columnists at AP and 9to5 are wondering and mashing the update button so for people to say just wait, what's the big deal, cool your jets etc. it is a little disingenuous.

Even the columnists at AP and 9to5 are wondering and mashing the update button so for people to say just wait, what's the big deal, cool your jets etc. it is a little disingenuous.

the one big important thing against Sammy is Knox and Warranty lose when bootloader unlock. You w8 big part of new product because you want to keep warranty.
Unrelated to the update scenarios, I'll say this...I had the pixel 5 and swapped to a Samsung note 20 ultra which I used until getting the p7p. If I'm honest, the note has a way more premium feel to it, holding it, looking at it, using it blows the p7p out of the water. I've been swapping back and forth between the 2 and even at 3 cycles old the Samsung holds it's own.
