BBM on Android. With PIN and blackberry plan. works on iPhone! - Android Software/Hacking General [Developers Only]

Hi,
I've searched a lot on the forum and on other sites as well.
While I'm a noob, I do get that BBM is a pin based messaging application, and no one can generate a fake pin.
Also, that getting the service provider to activate Blackberry services on a phone whose EMEI doesnt match is difficult.
I was using a blackberry, and thus have a pin number. Also my sim card (I am on a GSM network) already has full blackberry services which are active and paid for. If i put the sim back in my bb, everything works perfectly.
Now the question i ask is, since BBM is essentially a java app, is it possible for me to somehow install or emulate it on my android using my old Blackberry pin??
I found that this is possible for the iPhone (not sure of how well it works):
edit: I'm not able to post links as i'm a noob, so you'll have to open these manually! sorry. My apologies also for going around the rule, but the post would be incomplete without this info!

wevito.com/Blog/Entries/2009/10/31_How_to_use_bbm_on_your_iphone.html
the interesting question is, can something like this work on Android.
And if anyone would not mind answering a iPhone related question, is the above shown genuinely possible?
Thanks in advance for the help guys. Hopefully this is a new train of thought and not something I missed in my searches!
Black Knight

no help here?
even a simple it can't be done??

It would be nye on impossible..you'd need to have your phone permanently connected to the blackberry service (and paying the £5 a month for the pleasure) thus blackberry would know its not a genuine BB connected (due to the invalid PIN). I suppose the only way its possible is if you have an old BB, nick its PIN and emulate the phone. I cannot begin to imagine how much battery that would use.
All in all, get whatsapp.

thanks ptdborth..
i already have whatsapp...but its impossible to convice all of my old BB contacts to get it!
i'm already paying for the BB service, (paid in advance for a year) and I do have a old blackberry whose PIN i can nick!
so my question exactly is, how do I nick the old pin and use it/emulate it in the new phone??
thanks!

BBConnect

Question might be better fared here...
Allegedly, my employer does not support BBConnect, only Blackberry Only devices.
If I was to run BBConnect on the HTCFuze - would it work? I'm not familiar with the BES interface and settings... so I figured you all may be a bit more knowledgeable on this.
Any help is appreciated...
As a BES admin i can say that the BES does support BBConnect but it is quite possible that this functionality has been disabled at the BES itself.
For it to work, and i am assuming that you are looking for full two way synch of mail/calendar/address book, then you are going to need the co-operation of the BES admin. If he says no dice then i am afraid it is no dice.
Also BBC is never going to give you the full BB experience, i had two BBC users, one of whose handsets broke and after two days with a real BB he said to not bother replacing the dead handset.
Are the company going to be paying for any part of this?
Thanks for the responce...
They are not paying or any part of this- as I'm a 3rd party consultant. I've previously used my blackberry that has since died. I'd assume the information I got was their general dismallal of useage of the blackberry connect.
All I really need is my mail useability on a WM6 platform- so I can utilize the phone for my consulatant company needs, as well as my employer (blackberry) needs right now. This would mean a WM6 platform letting meuse webmail- and a secure BBconnect app on the WM6 to let me just check my mail- thats all I need from the BES.
Im just trying to avoid carrying 2 phones with me... that's really all. I'm not trying to compromise security- they are interfering with my productivity!
do they allow OWA access to your email? if so look at setting it up as a BIS connection. never done it and we don't run Exchange so it's not an option for us but it may do what you want without impacting anything else.

Why no answering machine for wm ???

Hi,
I am wondering why there ain't any working answering machine's for wm yet ? iSecretary was one which I guess is not working in wm6.5. Does anyone else know more about it ? I understand it might be duplicate thread, but since there's no latest posts on any of them I opened up new one hopping to catch eyes of u ppl....
Actually, there is an answering machine. Its awesome too. I got it free from my carrier. If I don't answer my phone after like 4 rings, it picks up and takes a message for me. Then, after it beeps and lets me know theres a message, I push a few buttons and a can listen to them. Then I can delete them, and start all over!
I can't seem to remember what its called though. Hmm....
Maybe someone else can help me with figuring out the name of this?
Wow, never thought about this, this would be really nice. It would be a good way to get voice mails recorded since it would be locally stored and not server stored like voice mail. I'd really like to know if their is one in circulation.
Edit: Apparently it's impossible due to hardware limitations of HTC phones, and seems Gigabyte's phone is the only one that can do it. More information here.
guess the reason for lack of more options is that most operators today offer answering machine at the operator end so it works even if the phone is off
like I mentioned already iSecretary worked fine until wm6.5 even in HTC. I used it in my HTC Fuze with wm 6.1. But it doesn't work in wm6.5. I don't know why. My operator doesn't give such voice message service for free. I am searching for a software like iSecretary that works with wm6.5.
seems nobody is interested in my post ???
Use google voice then, it's free and works when your phone is off. Since your provider doesn't give you voicemail, you should be able to use GV as your voicemail provider - heck, Sprint gives me voicemail for free, but I still have GV setup as my primary voicemail. For free, Sprint has a deal with Google.
you could try YouMail.com, i have it and its free for the basic service which is voicemail. you can customize the voicemail greeting also, its great, i get a laugh everytime....
both YouMail.com and Google Voice doesn't support my country yet. Is there any software that works like answering machine ?

Click to collapse
Ah... yea I guess I take for granted the fact that all these new services seem to always get piloted in the US of A. Sorry... I don't know of anything else :S
Doesn't anybody give interest to make an answering machine like iSecretary ?
I too would like an answer-phone software & I'm surprised HTC never made the most of this issue & resolved the hardware problems & bundled an answer-phone software of it's own.
G-Smart done it back in WM5 times & it was a good tool & marketing niche.

windows mobile for Android mobile devices

Please,
I'd like to know if is it possible to have a dual boot
for android mobile device (acer liquid) and windows mobile
thanks
I'd love to know about this too. Android's been impressing me on my FUZE, but I'm not entirely willing to dive in without a safety net.
If I could look forward to an AT&T version of Incredible in the future (or something similar) that would allow me to slip into WinMo if need be, I'd love it.
Or even better... an Android-native app that would launch WinMo apps. that way I'd be able to port over my beloved KinomaPlay. ^^d
Retro users?
Hi there,
I tried to search the question's forums and turned up to "no thread" on the subject.
When I tried to start one (and only then) I bumped into it!
Ok, I've being using Android for sometime now and do like it some but from time to time I just miss to have a smartphone that don't keep upgrading it's apps all the time!
Unfortunately there have been no decent WM phone on the brazillian operators of late (no Wm7 down here) and I quite could not leave the "eCompass" behind (saw no WM phone with it!).
Just now I'm waiting for some Nokia WM phones but until then...
(Possible I imagine that it is but)
... is there some hotshot out there to fix a WM version on an Android Device (like Defy or Galaxy Tab)?
C u!
There are quite a few compass apps on the Android Market.... Can you describe something unique eCompass does that you haven't found an adequate replacement?
Ah, before I go...
... Just to sign on the thread notification!
Just to the records...
(It appears that I was misunderstood and that my previous attempt at explaining it was unsuccessful!)
I was saying that I do not know of any WM device with compass capability! Just GPS.
"eCompass" was supposed to stand for electronic compass. It was not an app!

(Still awaiting...)
My friend try to do same thing on his android phone but no chance. I have another friend that can do it but he has some sort of universal phone that can had all os's made for phone.

[Q] Help me choose a phone please... need opinions

Hi guys,
I am probably going to ditch my iPhone 3gs later this year and return to a contract HTC phone (UK).
I am now so out of being 'up to date' and informed it's not true!
To cap it all I've suggested my boss gets one too. That may land me in the murky mire....
Can you guys suggest one of them - that you've personal experience of - not one 'that you've heard about'??
OK so My key priorities are for an HTC with large screen, large letters when needed, good video and excellent audio.
I'm using Windows 7. I need for the phone to Log in remotely to this and a few PC's by Logmein or VNC.
I would also add MS Office too, because its useful on the go, but I dont know whether the Android variants can create/edit/save exactly the same.
Do I need to start again with 2010 apps? ....... If I have to let go of my old 2002 apps, iTunes, etc., so be it, but maybe there's a way to keep ??? ..is there? ...
My boss's needs are simpler. Easy to use phone, Email on the hoof, Log in to a few PC's by Logmein or VNC. His phone can be smaller than mine.
What are you guys happy with - that might float my boat?
Thanks in advance
Anne

VOIP free calls via mobile Android phones

HY to all. I know from time to time someone is looking for some VOIP options for mobile phones just as I was looking for it.
I will leave you link for downloading software for mobile and how to install it. Using is simple
I came out with very new brand and type of service for VOIP calls via all devices you can find including mobiles but unfortunately not all mobiles can work with that sowftware, more preiclisly there is no software for all types of mobiles just Android, Symbian and Iphone OS based phones.
Here you can find rates and software: www.logotell.com and here you can make VOIP account http://www.logotell.com/backoffice/?q=services
As I asked paying for vouchers for credit via Paypall and credit cards is in progress and it will be ready in few days (I hope).
IMPORTANT
Only thing to know is when you are making account at logotell.com it will ask you for "Sponsor's username:" so please put "hrga" as you got info from me . Later when you sugest to someone else he can put your user name (benefits you will find by yourself).
You can make VOIP account without registration at logotell just for free calls but if you want to buy credit you ll need to register and fill form. I suggest making acc at logotell first.
So: software download at www.logotel.com
for creating VOIP acc and to create virtual number use: http://sip.logotell.com/Logotell/OnlineShop/VSContainer.swf?module=signup2&state=portal
I am using software on Nokia E52 and works perfect. Unfortunately there is still no software for windows OS based phones so my old HTC is still only using SIM... :-(
As I heard from Android users thy say it works super and calls are very good.
Never heard of it, I'll try it asap. Does it use landlines or so for routing the call for free? Or do you just get 5mins free calltime when signing up.
EDIT: It has a neat UI, but haven't done any tests yet as I'm at work atm.
@OP: Are you always calling for free or just very low cost and is this another Skype/Truphone/Sipdroid/Rebtel/CSipSimple/magicjack application with low-cost call over 3G/Wifi?
Thanks in advance for you reply.
It is like this. If you use your cell via Wifi to oher user hooked on internet it is for free just as Skype etc. Otherwise if you want to call you will have low cost calls.
Tha is for now. Maybe it would be posibille to make some routing with other VOIP provider. bo...?
I also took their travel SIM card without roaming (so now everybody can bother me on cell when I am out of country)
Good if you are lot out of country.
Indeed this looks like a decent VoiP provider I have to agree.
I am using voip now for more then 12 years ;-) (at home that is)
I found some app's for voip on Android, to use whit voip(buster) etc, u can configure them.
can i use this whit other voip providers?
Could be.
Well if somenone finds some Voip for WindowsMobile I would be gratefull
