Now that we have the daily BS out of the way...
This ROM is much like the latest Fission. It is just based on Android FRG83 2.2.1.
We will have same bugs as before. The compass calibrate and the random MP3 ringtone thing.
If you want to know what is different with 2.2.1 FRG83 then please use google to look it up.
What to expect from ROM:
It has been upgraded with Android 2.2.1 FRG83 system files. The app and framework folder remain the same as in Fission 1.2.1 for now. RC 1 will be used to see if any problems come up. Then we will move to RC2 that will have updated apps to match a 2.2.1 google build if any apps need to be updated.
If you are coming from 1.1 and above no need to wipe cache/data.
If you are coming from a different ROM then SBF before moving to Fission ROM.
If you are having problems that many others users are not having then SBF.
If you plan on sticking with Fission for awhile, then SBF also.

Thanks man - just wanted to make sure before I pulled the trigger
Just a heads up, the banner that runs on install still says FRF 91 Fission.
Thanks and Paypal is getting a hit in 5 minutes!
EDIT: Install went fine, no problems, but, still stuck on 1x. Thinking of restoring 1.2, see what happens. Also, I just dropped a $10er into your coffee fund. (not a bribe, I promise)
EDIT2: *22899 fixed the 1x issue. Thanks all.
I swear I'm not being lazy or anything but I have tried googling the difference between the two android builds and I really can't find. Anything special? Should someone who just installed the 1.2.1 bother upgrading or are they very much comparable?
Sorry for the inconvinience.

If you just flashed 1.2.1 just stay there there are a few bugs that are being worked on (nothing major don't worry) I bet there will be a new version out in a few days or so (just speculation)
The biggest difference is that it's running on Android 2.2.1 instead of 2.2.0 that we got stock. Note this is different than VZW 2.2.0 upgrade to 2.3.2 or whatever the newest OTA update is. (Fission users won't get or need the update.)

No camera after 1.2.1 to 2.0 RC1
Hi,
Thanks for all your hard work on this! Have a possible bug report here. My camera won't work after I flashed from 1.2.1 to 2.0 RC1. Any suggestions? Would it be safe for me to flash back to 1.2.1 (and if so would I need to wipe data and cache?)

Look at post #6 on this thread at DroidForums http://www.droidforums.net/forum/te...on-vanilla-2-0-rc1-android-frg83-2-2-1-a.html, Angdroid/MotoBoy camera is an issue that has to be fixed
Also, if you made a backup at 1.2.1, You should be able to just boot into clockwork and restore yourself back to 1.2.1 with no trouble
First I wanna say thank you everyone for their hard work and develop just an awesome Cognition version.
I just successfully install the Cognition (Stock Rom) for my Captivate and love it but I am wondering if it is worth it to upgrade to Froyo 2.2?
p/s: I found out I have an issue. Every time I put in SIM card, I have an error (process com.android.phone has stop unexpectedly. Please try again) and it will keep repeating til I take out the sim card Anyone knows what happen? Also what is the latest Cognition version right now?
thank you

Cog 2.1 or 2.2 or Stock JF6?

Sorry I am noobie here and this forum is so mess up that I can't find where are all the Cog. files so I don't know which is the latest but I believe it is the v2.3b8?. According to my phone information:
Firmware version: 2.2
Baseband: I897UCJJ4
Build Number: Cognition v2.3b6
maybe he's referring to the "Eclair 2.1" version of Cognition shown on Designgear's website?
Edit: I see Cog 2.1 was already asked about, NM
Anyway I just flashed to Froyo 2.2...Will test it out and let you know
thank you
lol. you were on Froyo 2.2... a newer build actually than JI6
Dude, you're confused beyond any legal limit.
Go to settings>about phone and tell us what it says for firmware version, baseband version and build number.
We suspect you already WERE running froyo (2.2) because the latest cognition (2.3b8) is built on top of a leaked froyo rom. We also suspect you flashed an older (and more bug-filled) version of froyo.

Yeah dude, as we suspected you are running the OLD leaked froyo rom. All of the newer custom roms (like DG's perception and cognition) are based off of much newer froyo leaks and generally work much better.
+1 in spending a few days reading before you do anything else. We don't want to see you on here complaining that you bricked your phone because you didn't understand what you were doing.

Just got a Samsung Mesmerize for USCC and was told that Froyo will be pushing out soon. Should I root and update to leaked 2.2 or wait for official?
Also I was hearing that once Official Froyo is released Cyanogenmod ROM should become available? Is that correct and/or will more some become available once the Official update is released.

It's a personal choice.
If you upgrade your phone at all (even if only doing custom 2.1 installs) you are going to most likely have to use Odin to go back to stock 2.1-update1 in order to install the official release (I'm pretty sure your phone will have to be as it was out of the box to install their update)
And no, cyanogen MOD just doesn't become available once the source is released, there still has to be people to work on building it - but it will be a lot easier to do once we have official source code - then you may see a team get together to build a supported version for the galaxy s model (which we could then port to mes). Also, once we have that we can also expect to see the kernel MOD's make it into 2.2 from 2.1.
My question is, why is everyone so concerned about getting the official drop, when i'ts going to be bloated to hell just like stock 2.1 is? Soon after it drops, you're going to see a custom deodexed and non bloated ROM and a new kernel - so you're most likely going to end up upgrading to that anyway. So in my opinion, upgrade now - then skip the official bloat release and upgrade to our customized version once i'ts complete (built off of the official 2.2 source).
What Version of 2.2 is the most up to date EC10? And it wont update when the official OTA is dropped correct? Its actually for a friend of mine I have a Dinc and only have experience in that.
On a side note. Why is this Odin thing so popular here and not Flashing with Clockwork like on the Dinc?
Phillip Fry said:

So if I just root it now (Z4root) will the the official update brake the root? If there is no stable 2.2 ROM yet then I will just wait. Really only need Wireless tether for now. Any and all help is appreciated.

And btw, it isn't an OTA update - it would be downloaded on your PC and installed via Kies. (not sure of the details, but this is what I've heard many times)
2.2 is already at the stores as of yesterday, our tech was given permission to upgrade the Mesmerizes in stock and employee phones, so if you were to buy a new one it'd be running froyo..
I personally got my own i500 upgraded yesterday morning and got to spend the last 24 hours reinstalling all my apps.. USCC should make an announcement on Facebook very soon.
I'm interested in removing some of this bloatware, what would be the best way to do that running the offical 2.2?

just use the ec10 pnp. and go with the voodoo kernel. you can always flash back to stock with odin. then you get your warrentee back
I know many have said they are gonna flash to stock and stuff for the ota. Is this really necessary? I would need to stay unrooted, which would take restoring my apps out of the question. Won't we have an Odin file on Tuesday anyway? plus I'd hate to not get it on the 1st day.

Never flash an ota while rooted wait for a rooted version usually comes the same day devs are very fast
if I helped in any way hit that thanks button!
Updating ota while rooted could permanently lose root brick phone etc be safe and hold off
if I helped in any way hit that thanks button!
I don't understand the rush to get the OTA. It's an EP4 build, which means is going to be pretty close to the leaks we have right now. If you're rooted, I'd just hold off and wait for someone to post the Odin.
Personally, I'm going to at least wait for the deodexed version and some themes.
Obviously the first 2 didn't read the op. I know you're not supposed to do that. That's why I'm asking, since i really need titanium backup.
Sent from my Gummy Charged GBE 2.1 using XDA App
I understand that if you rooted and flashed a deferent kernel you shouldn't accept the OTA, however I just have root and several Bloatware apps frozen with Titanium Back up..... Can I accept the OTA as long as I unfreeze the apps? I have no custom Roms or themes...All I did was flash SU with oden... I don't even have CWR.
Thanks for the patience with the noob question.
if I remember correctly the OTA will not even go through if you're rooted or have any root apps/permissions as there is a script in the download that checks on boot

I think it depends on the ROM. Some ROMs have the code in them to stop an OTA update but some don't. I've accepted an OTA while rooted before but I was on a stock rooted ROM and all that happened was I lost root. Not saying that the same will happen with this phone though.
We do not have an ODIN file for this build, and we won't unless someone leaks it.
So, if you want the OTA radio's you HAVE to accept the OTA, if you are satisfied w/ EP4P you don't need to do anything. After the OTA is out, someone will post a CWM flashable zip that will give you the ROM/Kernel and keep root.
But does anyone know what the version the OTA is going to be?

That makes no sense!
Why release a ROM package yet have different source released?

I just keep wondering if I should go ahead and upgrade my brother's phone now which is running GummyCharged GBE 2.1 which is based upon EP1W to the new EP4P ROM that was leaked or should I wait for a possible new version (newer that EP4P) and load that instead.

In the words of imnuts, it makes perfect sense. Manufacturers like Samsung and such are constantly sending OTA updates to the Carriers. The Carrier chooses what build get's pushed out as the OTA update. It's quite possible that on older source code got released before an "acceptable" OTA get's pushed out.
Here's what I think happened.
Samsung probably had a stable build with EP4D, but there's always room for improvement so they also produced EP4P. Samsung released the source code for EP4D but Verizon decided not to accept the EP4D build and instead are releasing the EP4P build as the OTA (if in fact the OTA is the EP4P build, no one knows.)
Again, I want everyone reading this to know that this is just my opinion and I am in now way stating all this as fact. So remember that before you reply telling me that I'm wrong.
As to updating your brothers phone, it really wouldn't hurt. After the OTA is released you could always go back to stock then load the OTA. That's up to you and your brother though. Just saying if he ends up not liking the EP4P build or something, it's really not that hard to just change it to something else. (Just a little time consuming is all.)
OK, that sort of makes sense.
But... if you were in my position, spc_hicks09, would you upgrade from GummyCharged GBE 2.1 or would you wait? I've already got my Droid Charge running EP4P and it runs great.
So what do you think? Should I just bite the bullet and load EP4P on his phone?

Honestly, I would. However, that's just because I'm the type of person that has to always try to get the latest and greatest lol. I would go ahead an upgrade to the EP4P, if the OTA seems better, then you could always just go back down to stock EE4 then upgrade to the OTA.
I definitely hope the rooted version of the OTA comes out pretty quickly after the release of the regular OTA. I've been loving these other gingerbread releases

Given the market icon that represents android 2.1, I'd wager it's just a modified stock rom...could be me, but wasn't this done more than enough times already? Like almost 2 years ago? Android 2.1 is completely obsolete and nobody really wants it anymore...plus, liquidsense and nfx are already the best 2.1 roms out there...nothing can really be done to improve on them...OP, why not just use Android 2.3? I could just ruu and root if I wanted this

That's good job man. Ive been wanting to learn how to do this stuff but i just never get around to it.
You took a step in the right direction. Keep up the good work.
good to have another stock rom easily accessible, thanks for this
Multilingual ?
Does this rom support Multilingual?
Thanks
hey money,
if you want to reduce rom size, offer anything non-system essential in an optional update.zip. i see from screenshots you have pacman and nba, those could be offered in a separate zip. if you need any help at all doing this, feel free to ask, and ill help as much as possible. keep up the good work, i know you will go far.
maybe also if we feel froggy we can adapt aroma to your rom and let users choose exactly what they want and dont want?
also i see your on cellular south, maybe offer a separate update.zip for a sprint fix? this would include mms.apk from a sprint stock rom, sprint eri.xml, and telephony.db from a sprint rom. that way both carriers are supported.
