I love the cyanogen roms but hate the stock camera app, is it possible to get like the galaxy s camera app, the sense one or droid x app to work on cyanogen? and I know about vignette, and stuff but they arent something id use EVERYDAY.

Change the camera app?

I wanted to get some advice before I try this.
I have a rooted cliq with 2.1 motoblur. My plan is to remove the default motoblur camera app with adb, and replace it with the stock android camera app.
Does that sound like it would work?

[Q] Camera/camcorder apps

This is more of a "state your opinion" thread, but what do you guys feel is the best camera/camcorder app? I currently use the integrated camera app in MDJ's CM7 build and do not like it at all
I haven't taken a look at whats available lately but the last one I used regularly was camera 360, it's still being updated too which is nice
camera 360 is great, the best in my opinion, but the fact that theres adds on a paid version and its saving advertisement and crap/spam to my sd card has brought me to uninstall it. Anyone know a way, other than running one of the firewall apps, to block this app from using data or doing this crap?
Why is there ads on a paid version?
Geez...
Have you tried something like Adfree? http://www.appbrain.com/app/adfree-android/com.bigtincan.android.adfree
Oh and the MIUI camera is pretty good and it takes widescreen pics too so the pics fill up the screen.
Somebody posted it in the milestone forums as camera.apk i believe.
I ma going to try a couple and let you know
+1 for MIUI. Its the best I've used out of any market apps or any camera I've used from other roms. It has some very nice options to play with.

[Q] How install the SGS2's camera app ?

Hi everybody,
Before the Nexus S, I'd the Samsung Jet, nice phone with a very good camera application, especially the panorama option.
Unfortunately, on the nexus the camera app is really simple, and I can not find a good application with panorama option.
So I've tried to install directly the camera.apk coming from the SGS2 on my phone, but it seems to be impossible :-(
Anyone knows how I can get it?!
I suppose that it's impossible to install the ROM of the SGS2 directly on the nexus that there are both Samsung's products....
Thanks
Nico
You can't. The Galaxy S2 uses TouchWiz.
TouchWiz 4 needs to be ported onto the Nexus S in order for the camera to work.
This is a PURE Google device.
Thanks for your quick answer
So I need to have TouchWiz 4, if I want to install the camera app....
But I though it was just a launcher, no?!

You need the touchwiz framework not only launcher which is not ported

No. That was not ported, that was just taken from the ROM and put on here. It was just a coincidence that the launcher doesn't rely on the Framework.
All of the Samsung code apps like Phone/Contacts/Browser/Camera/etc all use code from something known as a framework. Without that framework, it won't function. And the framework is specifically designed for THAT particular phone and won't work on any other phone.
The framework is also closed source. So it becomes complicated to port. Is it doable? Yeah.
Would I count on a dev to port it and make it fully working and fast? No.
If you dislike the stock camera, look for alternatives. MIUI Camera (apart of the MIUI framework, Camera 360 (app), etc.
Thanks a lot for your comments.
I've already tried others version of camera but I didn't find yet the good version.

[Q] Remap volume buttons to take picture?

i really like the stock camera on the inspire but sometimes when taking a picture of myself/myself with someone its really hard to find the shutter button on a screen thats facing away from you and the "self-portrait" option doesnt work too well.
with that said is there a way to remap one of the volume buttons or possibly even the power button so that while in the camera app it can be used as a shutter button?
the app "Vignette" does this but i've noticed it takes a few seconds longer to load the camera than the stock camera app and often when i pull out my phone to snap a pic i need it to work as fast as possible. it also disables zooming for some reason. also it would be nice if there was a free alternative, im not a fan of paying for apps
i tried this apk but it gives me an error telling me my phone does not have root access, which it does.
i have the insprire 4g with stock rom sense 2.1 rooted with the ace hack kit
You could install a custom Rom that has a built in function to do this. The rom I use has this feature and is gingerbread with sense 3.5. I know there are other roms that can do this as well. No apps from the market will be able to utilize the capabilities of the sense camera. Cyanogen also has this feature but has a terrible camera so if you like taking pictures, I would stick with a custom sense Rom.

i see, thanks for the info. i still dont feel comfortable flashing rom's on my phone, im new to this whole thing and have a lot of reading to do.
i am using golauncher and a bunch of other things from the "go" series and i am very happy with the layout of the UI, so i see no real need to mess around with other roms honestly, and i dont think the want for a physical camera button is enough for me to risk messing something up

Question Alternative camera app?

I'm still on stock ROM, rooted. The default camera app is missing some features I used regularly on my old phone.
Are there any recommended alternatives? I have Open Camera installed and it seems to work fine and has more features. Any better apps?
Also, can anyone tell me how to change the default camera app for things like the lock screen camera launcher? I can't find a default setting for it.
