Hi everybody,
Before the Nexus S, I'd the Samsung Jet, nice phone with a very good camera application, especially the panorama option.
Unfortunately, on the nexus the camera app is really simple, and I can not find a good application with panorama option.
So I've tried to install directly the camera.apk coming from the SGS2 on my phone, but it seems to be impossible :-(
Anyone knows how I can get it?!
I suppose that it's impossible to install the ROM of the SGS2 directly on the nexus that there are both Samsung's products....
Thanks
Nico
You can't. The Galaxy S2 uses TouchWiz.
TouchWiz 4 needs to be ported onto the Nexus S in order for the camera to work.
This is a PURE Google device.
Thanks for your quick answer
So I need to have TouchWiz 4, if I want to install the camera app....
But I though it was just a launcher, no?!

You need the touchwiz framework not only launcher which is not ported

No. That was not ported, that was just taken from the ROM and put on here. It was just a coincidence that the launcher doesn't rely on the Framework.
All of the Samsung code apps like Phone/Contacts/Browser/Camera/etc all use code from something known as a framework. Without that framework, it won't function. And the framework is specifically designed for THAT particular phone and won't work on any other phone.
The framework is also closed source. So it becomes complicated to port. Is it doable? Yeah.
Would I count on a dev to port it and make it fully working and fast? No.
If you dislike the stock camera, look for alternatives. MIUI Camera (apart of the MIUI framework, Camera 360 (app), etc.
Thanks a lot for your comments.
I've already tried others version of camera but I didn't find yet the good version.

Edit: sorry posted in the wrong thread, if MOD would be so nice to move this to general, thank you.
I tried searching for this answer but i did not find any.
Is the camera software dependent on the touchwiz framework?
I ask because i would like to know if i would have to look for touchwiz based ROMs or if it would be a firmware/.apk install to any other ROM.
Having deleted the Camera.apk once, I encounted a ton of errors, **** closing left and right when I tried to use the dedicated camera button. I'm leaning toward yes, though I have no definitive proof in the code or anything.

that's what I'm thinking as well.
so i have to look for a optimized touchwiz ROM running android 2.2....yes that sound nice.
Do you mean the camera button or the actual app?
Hope you're not saying if you run vanilla android or remove touchwiz then the camera won't work.... would be a dealbreaker for me.

we are talking about the camera app, the features in the app are very nice, and it looking like the camera app is based on the touchwiz framework.
i think the camera will work with any ROM (so long as the driver/firmware is working for it) but you will not have the features that a stock Epic would have.
Just a quick question, not sure if this is the correct place to post this. I noticed that all the ROM's with the exception of 1 all have the TW Camera app as the default camera program. I then saw that the new Eclipse ROM came out and it has the AOSP camera.
Is there a way to extract the AOSP camera app and install that into a different ROM? Not sure how the whole framework thing works. etc... thanks!
First, why would anyone want to use the AOSP Camera app? Not saying it doesn't get the job done, but compared to the stock TW Camera app, it's not very nice looking, and the last time I used it, it wasn't nearly as functional. That aside, you should just be able to replace the APK as I don't think there should be anything that will affect functionality missing, but I can't say that for certain as you may run into issues.
Isn't there a camera firmware apk? Or is this in all phones and it's just what the actual camera app uses to communicate with hardware?

Thanks Innuts. I was just curious. Maybe its just me but when I take pics in portrait mode the buttons don't rotate to portrait mode like AOSP. Also I noticed sometimes if you take a picture in portrait it doesn't rotate the image, so it looks sideways. I noticed this when taking a picture then sharing it to social website. I was just going to test both out for fun

Wouldn't an AOSP camera allow for enhanced or modded Camera apks? I know we already have some slightly modded camera apks. One thing I think would be cool is some sort of adjustment to take shots at different exposure levels automatically.
Another thing that would just be insanely cool is the ability to pull out the RAW data. Is this possible with AOSP camera, or would a camera firmware rewrite be necessary? I would be completely blown away with RAW.
I personally like the tw camera, so I pulled the camera apk and camera firmware apk from tweakstock and put them into eclipse. while I was at it I also pulled the clockpackage apk, calculator apk and the calender apk from mnml and put in eclipse a well. As you can see I like the tw apps, but I love the speed of eclipse.Don't know what the difference is but the phone opens instantly on eclipse which is something I haven't been able to get any other ROM to do. So I think I will stay with eclipse with the tw apps for now until something better comes along. Sorry to hijack the thread, just wanted to put in my two cents.

Go down to Additional Information for each app (if it doesn't show on mobile, revert to a computer) and find out what android version you need. Many require 4.0 these days (hence the coining of the term "ginger-death").
If sticking with this device, you may be ROM'ing after all. I would suggest starting with TBaldens CM 10.1. GimmeABreak also looks nice. If all you need is 4.0, then I would recommend CM9 (although I never used it, Sverhagens 9.1 version sounds more improved than the official).
Dam so this phone will be useless cuz most apps wont work I just kept it to for the camera had a baby so takes great pics and videos and awesome camera adjustment video settings any new roms that have the same settings?

To keep the HTC Sense camera, your options would be limited.
There is this:

...or Virtuous Infinity... http://rootzwiki.com/topic/30873-virtuous-infinity-v1330-alpha3-general/
None I've tested, may want to do your research on them to see which works best for you.
Alternatively, you can do what I've done, and install CM anyway, and use a third party camera app -> Ultra Camera (theres a few, but UCam has a free version). Works well. You can see if you like it by installing the camera app now (supports Android 2.2 and up) and trying it out, taking comparison shots. Note that you will have to tweak the settings a little...when I installed it, it took 6MP pictures, where I have since scaled it up to the proper 8MP.
Hope this helps.
Hello guys, I would like to know if there is any mod or rom or something that do the "Beauty face" like Samsung devices, LG...
Is an option that I miss on my Nexus.
Thanks
Have you tried an alternative camera app, like aillis or B612? B612 is, for the most part, point and shoot. aillis includes a lot more options, which might be more what you're looking for. But I don't think there are AOSP camera forks with the kind of feature you're asking for, and Google Camera definitely doesn't have them.
Try htc camera app its too good
So I'm trying to get the Samsung game launcher on my G7. I don't know there's a way do this but thought I'd give a shot

I doubt it will work
Samsung apps are designed to work with their touchwiz firmware
As your device doesn't have the touchwiz framework it won't be able to control any of the functions it is designed to do - hense it will just force close on launch
You would be better looking for an alternative app that does the same job in AOSP type builds
Yup just kept FCing
