Just a quick question, not sure if this is the correct place to post this. I noticed that all the ROM's with the exception of 1 all have the TW Camera app as the default camera program. I then saw that the new Eclipse ROM came out and it has the AOSP camera.
Is there a way to extract the AOSP camera app and install that into a different ROM? Not sure how the whole framework thing works. etc... thanks!
First, why would anyone want to use the AOSP Camera app? Not saying it doesn't get the job done, but compared to the stock TW Camera app, it's not very nice looking, and the last time I used it, it wasn't nearly as functional. That aside, you should just be able to replace the APK as I don't think there should be anything that will affect functionality missing, but I can't say that for certain as you may run into issues.
Isn't there a camera firmware apk? Or is this in all phones and it's just what the actual camera app uses to communicate with hardware?

Thanks Innuts. I was just curious. Maybe its just me but when I take pics in portrait mode the buttons don't rotate to portrait mode like AOSP. Also I noticed sometimes if you take a picture in portrait it doesn't rotate the image, so it looks sideways. I noticed this when taking a picture then sharing it to social website. I was just going to test both out for fun

Wouldn't an AOSP camera allow for enhanced or modded Camera apks? I know we already have some slightly modded camera apks. One thing I think would be cool is some sort of adjustment to take shots at different exposure levels automatically.
Another thing that would just be insanely cool is the ability to pull out the RAW data. Is this possible with AOSP camera, or would a camera firmware rewrite be necessary? I would be completely blown away with RAW.
I personally like the tw camera, so I pulled the camera apk and camera firmware apk from tweakstock and put them into eclipse. while I was at it I also pulled the clockpackage apk, calculator apk and the calender apk from mnml and put in eclipse a well. As you can see I like the tw apps, but I love the speed of eclipse.Don't know what the difference is but the phone opens instantly on eclipse which is something I haven't been able to get any other ROM to do. So I think I will stay with eclipse with the tw apps for now until something better comes along. Sorry to hijack the thread, just wanted to put in my two cents.

So I will try to organize this thread so most important stuff (request) is on top, and my rant/explanation of why I want this done will follow. Warning: I know I tend to use a lot of run-on sentences...I'm just long winded
Attached are two stock (I presume) .apk's that I pulled out of Cyanogen's ROM that I have installed on my stock 2.1 ROM. I prefer these two apps vs. the HTC versions, but each have one small issue.
1) - DeskClock.apk will FC if you hit the Music shortcut. I am assuming that this is something simple, like it's trying to call up the wrong program? Can this be written to launch the HTC Music App, hopefully eliminating the FC?
2) - Gallery3D will FC if you try to launch the camera from within the app. I am once again assuming (more hoping, really) that it's trying to launch a camera app that doesn't exist in the stock ROM. Can this be written to launch the HTC Camera app, hopefully eliminating the FC?
I would try myself, but after downloading and installing Eclipse, JRE and the Android plug-in, I still feel like this is over my head at this point, as all I have is very limited Visual Basic experience. Would someone mind doing me a favor and updating those apps are reposting them in this thread so that myself and other like me can use those on our stock 2.1 ROMs? It would be much appreciated
Now for the rant:
I see a lot of people with differing opinions on HTC's Sense. Personally, this is my first Android phone, and I have found that I actually like SOME of the Sense apps. I dont really have a problem with the launcher (though I have replaeced it with ADW.Launcher), and I feel that apps such as People, Camera, and Phone are somewhat superior to what I presume are the stock Contacts, Camera and Phone apps, respectively. And then I wonder why HTC created some of the other apps they did that seem somewhat....lacking.
1) The "Photos" app is very boring and plain. I mean, I appreciate the Flickr and Facebook integration (which would be useful IF I used them), but why could they not have just added this functionality to the already awesome 3D Gallery? I would rather use the stock Gallery app, and even though the file I attached (see:Gallery3D.apk) doesn't have a functioning camera botton, I still prefer it to the Photo app. Plus, it pulls in my Picasa photo albums
2) The DeskClock app HTC included on the incredible is fine for the most part, but I don't like the small clock font and the fact that it takes FOREVER to launch, whereas the stock DeskClock.apk is instant to load, has a much larger font, and does other things I like better; like keeping my wallpaper visible, and is softer to the eye. Once again, I appreciate the added features of HTC's clock (Worldclock, Stopwatch, Timer), but I don't use them enough to make me like this program more than the stock one.
So that is why I am asking for those to be edited so they'll run on my stock ROM. At least until we start seeing some FroYo love
Also, if anybody knows, why did HTC replace the Messages app with one that exchanges the ability to set conversation limits (e.g. 200 messages, then auto delete) with one that uses Facebook for contact icons? I still use the HTC Messages app cause I like the pictures transferring over from Facebook (or the People app, which is updated by Facebook, and hence why the People app I like BETTER than stock), but why leave out any message bulk control? Anything over two or three hundred and my phone really starts taking a long time to open the conversation...
Alternately, once CyanogenMod's ROM becomes more stable, I would love to switch to it if I could bring some of the Sense apps along. Those would be:
1) People - with fully functioning updates and photo shortcuts to Facebook and Flickr
2) Camera - I like the added features...and the fact that it already supports 8MP, whereas (as of CM5.0.8 Test1, anyway), the camera app would only do 3MP
3) Phone - again, with correctly synchronizing contact pictures and speed dial, just like in our stock ROM.
I haven't actually tried pulling these out of the stock ROM and installing them in CM5, but I'm assuming I'd run into issues with the Facebook/Flickr sync...

attached is a gallery apk that doesn't have the camera issue. and also I attached the stock music apk that is need for deskclock.
Anything from Sense requires the htc framework which you are not going to find in any Cyanogen or vanilla ROM and there is no work around.
The vanilla DeskClock apk (with working music button) and 3D Gallery (with working camera button) already exist in other threads in this forum. Just search for them. You will also find both of those apps in any plain vanilla or cyanogen rom that is made.
As for the phone and contacts, the vanilla ones are much better imo than sense. You will not miss the lag.

Thanks jitajt! Those fixed my problems. Im getting to the point where I'm fairly satisfied with everything about the phone. Just got Hydra's OCUV+N kernel installed and it's working great.
I have the opposite request of this thread actually; I need the HTC DeskClock files from a stock 2.1 sense ROM. Would anyone be able to post it please? Thank you in advance!
I miss having the timer and stop watch functionality that comes with it. My laundry always winds up sitting in the washer and dryer far too long without me setting a timer
Hello. I did a search for AOSP DeskClock and this is the only promising thread I found. I'm using an HTC CDMA Hero. Does anyone know if this is or isn't safe for me to use?
Also, do I just push to /system/app?
I don't know about you guys.. but the sense gallery loads up MUCH FASTER than this gallery 3D. UNINSTALLED
I have both apps in my rom and are runing fine

Camera FC
Hey Thanks jitajt!
I've been trying to get this to work on my samsung spica for a few days now.
But now the camera button (upper right) is giving me an FC error. It's because the camer app I have is SamsungCamera.apk NOT the stock camera app.
Could you provide the stock camera.apk for android 2.1?
Thanks.
Edit: sorry posted in the wrong thread, if MOD would be so nice to move this to general, thank you.
I tried searching for this answer but i did not find any.
Is the camera software dependent on the touchwiz framework?
I ask because i would like to know if i would have to look for touchwiz based ROMs or if it would be a firmware/.apk install to any other ROM.
Having deleted the Camera.apk once, I encounted a ton of errors, **** closing left and right when I tried to use the dedicated camera button. I'm leaning toward yes, though I have no definitive proof in the code or anything.

that's what I'm thinking as well.
so i have to look for a optimized touchwiz ROM running android 2.2....yes that sound nice.
Do you mean the camera button or the actual app?
Hope you're not saying if you run vanilla android or remove touchwiz then the camera won't work.... would be a dealbreaker for me.

we are talking about the camera app, the features in the app are very nice, and it looking like the camera app is based on the touchwiz framework.
i think the camera will work with any ROM (so long as the driver/firmware is working for it) but you will not have the features that a stock Epic would have.
EDIT: You know what, i appologize for this, at first glance i saw "camera" on miui's rom, but then saw MIUI Camera... Sorry to waste this space, i'll update if all works well.
I want to install the MIUI camera app onto my NS4G running CM7 Rev4 because of the touch-to-focus feature, but since the MIUI camera doesn't support the front-facing camera, i want to have them both installed in case I would like to use the ff camera.
I understand the camera.apk for both cameras are listed in the app drawer under "camera" so I was hoping someone would be able to change the name of one of them slightly so they could both be installed together.
Am i blowing hot air here? cuz i feel like it shouldn't be too difficult to do (not for me, but for someone who has experience with apk decompiling/compiling).
I also understand the 2 different camera apps have different frameworks (ie: with the wrong framework, the settings feature in MIUI camera won't work). So additionally, can the framework apk for the 2nd camera app be adjusted as well, so both camera apps will work completely?
turns out just pushing the MiuiCamera.apk over to a CM7 ROM doesn't work. Not sure what else has to be done, if someone could take a crack at it would be great
is there a way to pushing the apk to CM7 #21 ?
i just put the apk in the system\app folder named miuicamera.apk
and it disabled my stock camera aswell
Anyone flash these 4.2 mods (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1991734) on one of our 4.1 ROM's like Synergy? Mod includes:
- New clock
- New Gmail
- New Music app
- New Launcher
- New 4.2 keyboard
- New 4.2 Camera
- 4.2 Sounds
- 4.2 Bootanimation
- 4.2 Fonts
Doing a nandroid backup right now, will be testing on the latest CM10 nightly to see how it works.
*update* Flashed and tested, everything seems to work well, except for the camera. You take one photo and it locks up, and then the device can't access the camera until reboot. It did the same under AOKP M1 on my GS3. I'm restoring from nandroid now.
That sucks.... Well we won't see a new 4.2 ROM until late December because of how different the system is for 4.2.

To take pics with the camera you have to touch the screen to focus first. There is a bug with it noe that it can't auto focus.

I tried everything, the camera won't work correctly yet. Just wait, plus the stock camera has better features and takes better pictures too so i'm not complaining.

Just put this mod on my gs3 no issues at all with any of the downloads. One question what is the difference between the old music app and the new updates on this one.
Does anyone know when we are going to get the new lock screen were we can put a widget with the lock screen

Did you touch the screen before taking a picture to make the camera focus? Like I said above you cannot leave it on auto focus or it will force close and you will have to reboot the camera to get it working again.
I assume the camera y'all are using is the same as the one here:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/ve...-roms-hacks/220830-jelly-bean-4-2-camera.html
If you can't get the one working that you're using now by touching the screen to make it focus then try this one. There is a flashable zip. I don't know if its in the OP yet or still on one of the last few pages but I know for a fact that the flashable zip places all the libs in the right place and the camera and photosphere works perfectly. You still have to touch the screen to make the camera focus on this one too because if you don't it'll force close too and you have to reboot to make the cam work again. Just make sure you touch the screen before snapping the pic!!!!!

Here it is! The first part of the Nemesis project, Focal, is already here!
This is just a build I made downloading the source from github.
I will try to update it as new versions progressively come.
This isn't my work, say thanks to the CyanogenMod Team instead!!
Sorry for the Google Drive download link, but I apparently can't upload this file as attachment...
UPDATE: It seems to better work on Nexus devices and on AOSP based ROMs. Stock ROMs like Sense, TouchWiz etc. will probably experience problems with this camera.

thanks for compiling!
i have currently a nexus 4 running stock 4.3 unrooted with stock kernel.
this is the first time i tried focal, and here are my impressions:
the preview lags. constantly. no matter what conditions, dark or sunny.
i dont like the interface, even though it has nice ideas, its just too much. im not a big photographer, so for me these features are not that important to me, i much more prefer simplicity, and this is just overwhelming.
i dont really get how the view of the previously taken photos should work, how i can navigate through them and how it can be deleted.
they took a lot of good ideas from the official camera app, but implemented it in the wrong way.
as for picsphere: i dont like that there is no preview, i only see the frame when i already took it. and that i have to manually press the shutter button to take the frame, and its not automatic. they should at least give an option for that.
picsphere rendering is very slow, much faster on stock.
plus it saves all frames of a picsphere as separate photos too, whats that all about?
and wheres hdr mode?
and why is it locked in landscape mode?
so to sum up: i like the idea of having cyanogenmod-developed apps instead of stock, but it still has a loooong way to go to become a considerable option to replace the stock camera app.

Most features work on my sensation.
You can change which of the editing settings you want to appear using the slide-up settings.
Picsphere has previews for me. But I agree the rendering needs work.
HDR works
You can swipe from the left/top to get to gallery and see/edit/delete pictures.
It's not locked in landscape for me either.
I used the zip from the other thread though
