Epic 4G Official Froyo Release - Captivate General

Is anyone talking about this in the Captivate forum? Could this mean our update is soon? Anyone plan on porting it over?

I don't think it would work. cdma vs gsm, etc.
Sent from my Captivate

I am full of envy
Anyway it was 2.2.1, not 2.2 as leaks.
Might be our official froyo also 2.2.1?

The galaxyssupport on twitter has been consistent in saying these updates will be out before the end of december. I was in doubt but now I am confident that we well see captivate update soon.

Hmm, interesting, I thought I read that Vibrant and Captivate would receive Froyo first... very peculiar indeed.

I "thought" it was on one of the blogs I follow (IE.. Engadget, Gizmodo, AndroidandMe, and Androidspin)
Well at least it means our phones should (keyword being should) follow soon with a new Froyo update.

Surprised that they were first to get it... and that it was 2.2.1!

Can we maybe dissect the url to find our update url when it becomes active? Here's the utal and my projected path...
http://android.clients.google.com/p...0/1506bdf2e04b.update-SPH-D700_DI18toDK28.zip
What I have reasoned thus far: ("?" Indicates what I don't know)
http://android.clients.google.com/packages/ota/at&t_samsung_i897/ ? .update-SPH-I897_JH7toJK??.zip
Could someone look up the JH7 update url and look at the url path between "...samsung_i897/ and .update..."? Hopefully it would be the same...
[edit] after looking at my signature from this app, the "SPH"'s above might actually be "SGH" ...

There is still no official word from Sprint or Samsung that this is the official release. Yes, it could be. But it called also be RC1 or Beta 9 -

I thought I read people were getting upgrade messages to their phones. I could be wrong.

I don't think it's the final build because some users have mentioned bluetooth voice dialing doesn't work.

Unless I am mistaken, bluetooth voice dialing is not a native function of froyo, it is included in a google app that is only compatible with froyo. As with all google apps, carriers can choose whether or not to include it. If it is not pre-installed, it can be downloaded from the market.

I got this message Saturday night, but I have not tried to install it because im rooted and custom froyo rom and i9000 kernal.

I got a message this week too. But I figured it was the 'gps fix' message from a month or two ago...whenever that wash. I never got that message.
I too have a ROM on so it wouldn't come to me anyway.

Trust me, it's not Froyo. As has been stated a ton of times, it's just AT&T sending out batches of update texts for the 2.1 previous upgrade.

Samsung firmware world. Google it. Not on samsung website. Its not an official release yet. And it does not fix gps. It helps a little but really not worth it. Just be patient and wait till september when it becomes official. That's probably your best bet. I am running it currently and not impressed really, plus there are issues with apps missing after updating.

I really don't know what the fuss is about. i don't use my gps that much but i did the quick gps fix and it seems to work fine. it finds me in seconds and locks in. i don't lose the signal anything. I think maybe setting are not set correctly. who knows who cares. no need gps. google maps is just fine for me to look up stuff. I just want Froyo. It be so nice. For now stock android is fine too.
Edit: Try this new firmware just released this morning. Maybe there is a fiix. I haven't flashed it yet. I phone is all mummy-fied. Just applied the phantom-skinz and wrapped it with white tape. I will try it later this evening though. I want to know what is new on the new rom.

Offical Release Very Soon? Leaked Emails Indicate so.

If this article is correct, how much time would AT&T take to release OTA or via Kies?
wirelessandmobilenews.com/2010/10/samsung-galaxy-s-update-2-android-22-froyo-epic-4g-fascinate-vibrant-and-captivate-coming-soon.html>
Not sure I saw that also. Well im not waiting for the ota, might take dorever, ill just wait for trusty old designer to make a back up of the update for us then ill donate

So when 2.2 is out, will the update wipe our phone of our apps and stuff?
No, it will not wipe out your phone...
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Yes it will, froyo will not be a OTA hotfix, it will be a complete system/kernel/modem.bin etc, which WILL require wiping data/system/cache etc etc, but the update will take of all that.
Wipes all that hu that sucks

yeah I'm not sure OTA is a good idea since it bricked so many people' phone on jh7 release lol I will wait for kies or DG rom and donate as well.

I would expect Kies to reinstall apps after wiping - this is basically how iTunes installs new OS - backup apps/data, wipe and install clean system, restore from backup. From user's point of view, everything he cares about should be preserved.
But I have no clue if Kies actually does it.
HAHAHA

Sure would be nice, but I've learned not to get my hopes up so I won't be expecting anything official in the near future. It usually doesn't take them to long to test. They mostly make sure it doesn't mess up their network. I have heard it takes about 2 weeks. But first we have to hope that the AT&T Froyo build is final - this rumor is that Korean binaries are ready - so it could be just the Asian builds are ready.
Although, the JI6 build we have is pretty close - if they have GPS fixed, they really just need to tweak some other stuff - it is pretty close to done.

From a phone on an app

[Q] [Question] market sees my phone as SeaMobile Carrier? wtf?

I bought an app while my phone was stock, NFS Shift. After updating to EA-11 then EB-16, I thought maybe waiting a few days would make my app show up but it hasn't. I logged into the market on my laptop and it shows that i indeed have paid for the app but my carrier is SeaMobile. WTF!!!!!! I'm lost here. After some suggestions found out in the wilds of the web, I went and looked at the /system/build.prop file and it says uscc in there so whats up? Is anyone else experiencing this? I am really confused by this. The market says SeaMobile isn't a supported carrier. I have bought other apps while on ea11 and they showed up
I've noticed that market thinks the phone is no longer compatible with the NYTimes reader, but that's the only issue I've had. I don't think it said I was another carrier though?
Mine did the same thing. I heard the desire did something similar after the official froyo too. Not sure if it still does our not. I'd guess it has something to do with the way google reads our firmware since it's not official?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Just realized that it says SeaMobile for me too. Weird..
Has anyone found a fix for this yet, I'm really stumped? I'll pay, beg, and or humiliate myself if it gets this fixed. Lol, seriously though I will do whatever it takes.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
I've noticed this too... Paid for NFS: Shift and Tetris when it was on sale and now I can't get them back since upgrading. Even after I downgraded back to Eclair, I couldn't get them back. Oh well. It is what it is, and I'm out $2. No big deal I suppose.
This is happening on both builds. The build.props are both correct for the market. The only thing I can think, is that these aren't supposed to be available yet so the market doesn't recognize the phones. I'm going to try a few things tonight.

Thanks for doing some digging Phidelt. Like I posted earlier there were a lot of people having similar issues when the official FroYo release came out for the desire. I think its just google being slow about updating the market to recognize the phones.

Glad to see that others are having the same issue. I had a feeling it was due to the "leaked" signature.
I haven't been able to find Bejeweled 2 and a few other new apps because the market thinks I am a Seamobile phone.
Umm it was showing SeaMobile when I was on stock 2.1
It isn't a bug, USC just isn't that well known.
Also as for NFS Shift, I bought it when it was on sale and I just upgraded to EB16 and had to factory reset.
NFS Shift can no longer be purchased because of some legal thing with Verizon.
Also people who did purchase it could not re-install it and had to repurchase it for 10$.
A bunch of bull if you ask me.

The problem I have with the review is that it doesn't address any of the "issues" being discussed here (reboots, freezes, WiFi vs. cells conflicts, signal strength, battery level reporting). I mean it's great GB should be coming soon, but unless it fixes the numerous bugs...well it's not of much use IMHO.

Ha yeah...Adrynalyne said it was a trojan to free up bandwidth for dev's to download it.
