Microsoft just released onenote for ios . Very surprising...

Mobilenoter is a bit rubbish. Sync is expensive, and almost impossible to set up so it actually works. The SE edition avoids sync - but is a pay app and is only a viewer. We need a proper MS app.

Not sure if it has the same functionality, but I have evernote on my Galaxy tab, my HD2 and my PCs, and it's pretty much flawless.
Edit: Okay, I've checked and evernote does everything that I can see onenote doing, and more.

Nthing Evernote, probably your best bet for Android note-taking. Microsoft's stance re: Android is a bit... cautious, so I wouldn't hold your breath for OneNote.

I haven't used my droid and onenote but i do use Evernote. Syncs well between my droid and computer. Allows picts, voice recordings, etc.

i think onenote is much more advanced note taking program. Just cannot compare to evernote. I use both and both have very different fns.
Since microsoft released one for apple , i wish they release for andorid too..

I've recently tried to get into OneNote because my life consists of several different legal pads with my chicken scratch and no effective overall organization...I'd LOVE to start using OneNote, but it's value diminishes if I can't both access AND edit on my EVO 3D.
That said, so far it looks like my choices and their corresponding negatives are:
(1) Use OneNote on my PC and MobileNoter on my Android
-As noted above, the problem here is that the "free" MobileNoter requires an expensive sync service and is buggy, and the $8 up-front version only lets you VIEW and not EDIT..
--Why the **** are those our choices?? literally ALL I need here is a way to view and edit on my phone...I can SEND and RECEIVE the OneNote file MYSELF using my dropbox/skybox etc. Is the "free" MobileNoter LOCKED or something? What I mean is that if MobileNoter has the ability to edit OneNOte files, then it should be GOOD to GO and I can simply pull files from my own cloud services and upload them back after editing...but it looks like I can't even ACCESS MobileNoter's functionality w/o signing up for and installing it's "sync client"....?? I'm assuming it was simply done this way for the developer to make money, ya?

So IMHO, all we really need is an EDITOR...I don't really mind manually uploading to cloud from my PC and mobile, then having to open that file and save over old versions once I hop on my other device....

MobileNoter (the app that is free in Android Market and requires the Windows Sync Client for sync with OneNote) and MobileNoter SE (the one that costs $8 and can sync with Dropbox and SkyDrive) are two different applications. Though they have the same GUI and look similar to user, they are different from the technical point of view.
MobileNoter uses the same sync mechanism as the iPhone version of the app, which had arrived in 2009. At that time that was the easiest way to establish synchronization with OneNote. Also, because the license check was performed on the server side it allowed (and allows) users to change their phone or PC and not to lose their license.
MobileNoter SE is a completely new app that can work with *.one files by itself and doesnt require any additional software. It doesn't have page editing capabilities yet only because that part of application code cannot be taken from the original MobileNoter, so it is still in development. In MobileNoter SE 2.0 editing features will appear.

I understand that they're two different applications, and I understand their different capabilities--I just didn't and don't get why I can't just use MobileNoter (not SE) without using the sync client at all--in other words, just use the program for its editing capabilities, and then upload/sync my files on my own.
Guess I'll be waiting for MobileNoter SE 2.0.....

OneNote is my go-to app in Win7; the others don't compare. I use catch notes to make quickies, then manually add them to OneNote when I get home. sigh.
I also bought into mobilenoter early on, and they're decent people, but the app just isn't much more than a viewer. When I have been able to make notes on my phone and sync them back to my network, it was jibberish. (Anyone else have that issue?)
But I recently started using Windows Live from android, and I love it; bookmark the calendar, you've got a syncing calendar app that's not google (I'm all for competition!)
And it SEEMS there should be a way to access/use my SkyDrive (ie, ONE NOTE!) web apps from a browser, but no luck so far w/ stock or Dolphin broswer.
Is there an app [yet] for using the Live web apps? Because then we'd be able to access our ON notebooks (and hopefully edit them!) with a freakin bookmark link!

MobileNoter SE 2.0 is released and is already available in Android Market.

I totally agree Mobilenoter is hopeless it only seems to find half my notes and not being able to create a note is next to usless.

I don't understand MS' unwillingness to make an Android client.
They make more $ on Android phone sales than they do on WP7 phone sales.

I tried mobilenoter synced with skydrive, it works but errors out if you have images inserted....
I use onenote on both win 7 tablet and work pc synced with skydrive. Had to create a section just for android and sync that and not use images. Pretty limiting when i cant use images.

Such problems can occur if you use OneNote 2007, because MobileNoter SE is designed for OneNote 2010.

i was using onenote 2010,- does not like images at all with skydrive.

at last onenote android is on market but only for 2.3+
and I don't want to void my waenty on my new phone but it runs well on 2.3 mod on my Vodafone 845.

Mobilenoter can read ink notes but sync fails on images and is v....e.....r.....y... slow with skydrive.
MS onenote can sync images and fast but doesn`t read ink.
But isn't this typical with software.

How to use a tablet for business

Hi all!
I would discuss with you what can be the best way to use a tablet for a typical business day.
Today I'm used to use my netbook during travelling for:
- read/answer email messages (I receive at least 120 mails/day)
- look at some excel files (typically only read, sometimes also write)
- look at some pdf
- show some PPT presentation through my screen or the VGA output
I'd like to start to use a tablet (currently I have a Samsung tab 7'', in the next future the 10'').
But... how to get access to my outlook mails? Not only what I receive day by day but also to look at what I received 1 months ago or previous.
Also how to have access to my PDF db? or PPT db? Should I use some sync program to sync storage tablet space and PC's storage?
What do you think about?
- Outlook: I can't use IMAP because I organized my mails in many,many,many folders and IMAP is really slow in syncing those...
- File Folders: do you know any nice app which can work nice on wifi (at least).
Maybe I could start to think to dropbox...
Any comment?

No one answered me... and this is sympthomatic of one of:

But I think many of us have my same question because want to buy a new technology gadget but can't find the right way to use it.

I am still a newbie on Android, but will provide some inputs which I am currently using on my XT3 ( not a tablet though)

- Outlook: My company have Microsoft ActiveSync configured so I use native Email Client of Froyo. I have my mails synced only for 3 days. With this you can choose which folders needs to be sync'ed. Looking at the volume you are trying to use I doubt if the default mail client can handle that load. You can give a try on alternates like RoadSync or TouchDown etc.
- File Folder: I use ES File Explorer. Its a free app and works like a charm on both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Have tested only with Windows machines until now.

Using a 10.1" Viewsonic Viewpad 10s with internal 3G.
I have no answer for your email problem. I use GMail as my company is using GoogleApps. Access to older emails is a pain from the tablet, and like you I have organized my emails in folders and subfolders (called labels in Gmail). I can access them while out of office, but its not really fast.
For the files, I use "Documents to Go" as it gives me access to my Google Docs account. I can get Word, Excel, Powerpoint and PDF files from my account, read them, change them. It can sync files with your PC as well.

I have the GTab and I use Logmein to view my outlook emails. Granted, I have a desktop PC in my office that remains 'on' at all times so that I can always remote-in to it.
Here's a short list of my business apps installed on my tab:
Citrix Receiver
LogMeIn
WebEx
Evernote
Dropbox
Thinkfree
...plus others.

K-9 mail
Never live in the past but always learn from it.

Why not set up an exchange Android's email client supports outlook exchange.

"ColorNote" "DropBox" help a lot at my work.

I have a galaxy tab, but i use the ipad for on the road business things, its really handy for showing the pdfs i make to explain things to clients and such, there's also alot of excellent business related apps that just aren't on android yet.
A excellent one is like a "minutes" app, and you record everything discussed in the meeting that you can look up on for future reference, it has like a contact lists in it for all the different clients.
As soon as Android matures ill switch to a 10inch tablet

K9 mail has outlook/exchange support (although I've not tested it).
I use IMAP with K9 mail. The beauty of it is you can select which folder to sync. You may have many many folders, but maybe you don't need to sync all of them.
For all your other problems, I guess there is a solution:
There is MSOffice for android (read and write), PDFreader for android.
You should be able to browse through your work file through 3G/Wifi using a combo of cifs manager and ES File explorer. Assuming your work IT let you access to there network from your personal mobile device (they could decide it's forbidden for security reasons... my work would not let me do that).
Another option (not so convenient) for sharing files : Dropbox

I think mangus7175 focused the problem.. we need full PC access (through LogMeIn or something like) especially when looking for business mail access.
A PC is compatible with all kind of environment, I mean:
- do you have Exchange? taaaac.. use Outlook synced with it or another client
- do you have POP3/IMAP access? taaaac.. use Outlook synced with it or another client
- ...
I can't understand why this is not available with a tablet with a so big storage space... it'd not be a pst storage problem and with a dual core cpu not a performance one.
I mean that for business access we can't ask our companies to change the environment only because we need that. Tablet are still seen as gadgets.. some companies are going to give to account managers tablets to be more fashion while showing catalogues, documentation, etc.. but it's quite far to be a so common business device, yet.
So in the meantime we can use a lot of PC-like apps but when necessary we still need full access to our PC in the office. In this case the bad thing is that we need a lot of bandwidth and here in my country it's not so available and stable and RDP is not so comfortabel. However also in fast access without a mouse it's quite hard to use.
I'm sorry to say I'm trying a lot of scenarious but unfortunately I still prefer my netbook when travelling, with data manually synced through LAN/USB.

The main i use is called "Mobile business" by resco, but if you have an iDevice, just have a look in the business section, you'll be amazed.

I use a Gtab for my business since 5 months. If you use Exchange in your business I advise you to use Touchdown. This application is for Mail (Exchange), Meetings, Tasks and Contact.
You can use a lot of settings for mails and meetings.
I use Dropbox, Catch and COL Reminder.

WP7 Mango + Skydrive Office

Hi folks,
my first post here, to date I just read in the background.
However I just hacked the Mango update to my Optimus 7 and I have a question considering Skydrive + Mango.
I sync all my documents between my workstation, my laptop and skydrive synced storage.
However I cannot access the synced storage via my WP7, only the standard folders. Is there a way to sync my documents folder to standard skydrive as well?

Yeah, but this folder is empty...
The data only gets synced between my two computers and Skydrive synced storage, which does not appear on WP7. So, how can I sync the data to the "real" skydrive.
Or am I missing an important point here`?

You're mixing up two things: SkyDrive and SkyDrive synced storage.
SkyDrive is the online service that gives you 25GB to store your stuff. This is the place to where you can directly upload your photos from WP7 for example.
The other thing is Live Mesh. Live Mesh allows you to sync files between several PCs and "SkyDrive synced storage". This is useful if you have two PC and you want to sync files between them, but you don't have them turned on at the same time. Live Mesh only offers 5GB of storage and you cannot access it from WP7.

Yes I know that. However on first sight I thought that there had to be an option that live mesh could also sync to skydrive.
I now know that this is not possible. (Cannot find any reason for that though)
So I now have the problem, that my documents on both PCs are kept in sync via live mesh, which also syncs to the 5gb of synced storage. Now with Mango on my phone and the ability to access/edit documents from skydrive, the only logical conclusion for me is to keep those files in sync with my PCs as well.
As of yet there seemingly isn´t any solution to it.
One can mount skydrive as a local drive, but you cannot sync files with it, even though one can drag and drop....
Any thoughts?

Me too, Microsoft are missing the point here (or are we ?) You want to sync your docs between computers and have them open quickly/locally...but also want these same docs available on the web and WP7. Hope this gets resolved in a later beta of Mango...

So far, your only solution would be to browse your sync'd folder through the browser on the phone.

They should just merge the 2 features together and allow any skydrive folder to be synced.

and that only works if you switch the browser to full mode (not mobile)

Hmm, really hope this gets resolved, at latest with the final Mango release.
Otherwise the whole skydrive does not really make a lot of sense, being integrated into the Office Hub

This is exactly the kind of thing that make me mad about microsoft... its sooo damn frustrating sometimes.
WHY on earth have this nice LIVE mesh feature, where you keep all of your pcs docs nicely synced, but then, dont have the option of seeing it in your WINDOWS phone, you need to manually upload it to ANOTHER folder in a PC (wich erase the whole purpose), and dont give me the "just download it from the browser" thing...
I love the wp7 mango beta, its one hell of a slick OS, actually im kind of a microsoft fan in general, i use PCs exclusively, office, xbox, zune HD, hotmail, live, skydrive & mesh and now WP7 (i do own an ipad though)... but why it is soo hard for them to make everything work together?? this is an important feature for me since i sometimes need to check some excel files on the go, and i need the most up to date version... So im screwed, since dropbox (which i used) its a no go in wp7 (i dont mind, since its not MSFT fault), but mesh (a msft service) its useless in their phone, even in the ipad i have access to it via iSMEStorage...
Music/video streaming is nice and all, but this feature seems to me even easier to implement, they can even disable the editing/uploading functionality, i believe most of us can do with a viewer only...

WT? Why does apple get better sync opptions than Windows

With the Connector for MAC users they can directly drop and drag files via browser, transfer ringtones and all kinds of stuff that is either not possible or a pain with Zune. WT? is wrong with Microsoft and why are they favoring Apple?

I've even heard rumors that you can Sync your Email contacts directly via USB

If these things are true then screw MS. they don't even care about they own OS. lol
but, You can sync ringtones thru zone (Difficult, yes), and for drag and drop import there are some apps there in marketplace
Email contacts also can be done via Internet in phone
So, you don't lose anything important in windows.
Anywat, syncing is still waay too stupid in WP7. Why the hell should you email yourself a PDF, Doc, ppt to view them in your phone when you are using Windows? (Considering Mac gives a support to this)

Have you ever actually used itunes? It's a nightmare on a windows pc. They don't cater to them at all.
When i got my titan it only took me an hour to get everything on the new phone. Plugged it into Zune, drug over all pictures videos and songs. All contacts automatically came from my hotmail, facebook, twitter, and exchange. and downloaded re-installer which is free to bring my apps in via wifi. All work documents and onenote are on skydrive so nothing lost. Who emails? Just sync them to skydrive. Only thing that i didn't get was call / sms history, and saved game points. who cares about that anyway.
Last time i used itunes, my wife thought she was backing up and apparently never was. Nothing ever saved to the pc. Now this was with a 3gs about 2 years ago but still. I think Windows phone has the upperhand. Why do you think apple has icloud now? Itunes has become an afterthought.

For ringtones use Free Ringtones app or other ringtones app from the markplace.

Not arguing that sky dirve is a nice feature and a good thing to have but what about giving us the opption to sync directly? What is wrong with that? Yeah I've used iTunes before and it is a pain; that's why I bought a Windows Phone, I was so use to the simple way of just droping and draging of files on my Windows Mobile Phone and then Microsoft went and created Zune wich by the way doesn't allow back ups (only when upgrading) I have to use cab sender with a dummy xap to trick Zune into creating my back up.

I have 25G on my SkyDrive and about 5G on Dropbox. Once I changed my Dropbox location to inside Skydrive folder, I was able to access all the files from the Surface SkyDrive app.
Another option is to use "File Manager" app - there is a free as well as a paid version. It allows you to link a bunch of cloud storage locations (Google Drive, SkyDrive, Dropbox etc) and allows a variety of changes on files/folders - some which are not available on the Skydrive app.

hahahha now that is an awesome tip. Something so simple but so helpful. This will kind of be better than a drop box app since everything will be updated on both locations from the one sky drive app. I'm going to try this at home. Thanks!

Hmm - So your Dropbox folder would be relocated on all your desktop systems to within your skydrive, or just one desktop. I have been using All my storage app on my Surface and it works pretty good.

When you move your Dropbox folder in your SkyDrive folder, SkyDrive treats it as just like any other folder. So all your PCs/tablets that has SkyDrive will now see a folder called "Dropbox".
The Dropbox app will continue to sync this folder and so all PCs/tablets that has Dropbox will see the changes to this folder.
Of course, if you do not do this on one of your desktops, then you will have a Skydrive folder which has a Dropbox folder in it as well your original Dropbox folder which might be at a different location.
As long as you understand that Skydrive will sync its folders and Dropbox its, you'll be in good shape.

There won't be a dropbox sync app for windows RT/surface RT. 3rd party apps need to use metro, and there are too many limitations to be able to sync folders. There might be a metro only version though.

It was already officially announced that a Dropbox app is being developed for Windows RT and 8. Even if the app itself it metro only, obviously it will have the capability to sync your files, even if active syncing only occurs when you use the Metro app. That is the whole point of Dropbox.
I can't wait for the app to be released. That is the main thing I am currently missing with my Surface. Unfortunately this SkyDrive hack won't work for me because I have 23GB of free storage through Dropbox and on SkyDrive you only get 7

It's not actually syncing the files, just giving you access to them, like the metro skydrive app. It's essentially equivalent to a glorified version of the website, since the files are not stored on your computer in any way until you access them.

This is what I miss.
Even for SkyDrive, I would like to tell it what folders to sync and have them synced in the background or even manually, but it should sync all files in that folder and be available offline.
The desktop client for SkyDrive recently added selective sync but I wish it was available on Surface.
FWIW, even the Dropbox client on Android doesn't really sync automatically - however, you can mark some files as favorites and it will sync those when you use the app.
