Tune Radio - Galaxy Tab Themes and Apps

is there any application to tune the radio which is not online?

You mean an FM reciever?

so, did not have the version koreana hardware radio receiver. I'm from Brazil but I bought the version and the version of Koreana Brazil has digital TV, analog TV and FM radio.

Sounds like a rip-off than the actual tab... As far as I know the tab only has tv out for Rca (s- video) and HDMI but the FM radio is new to me...

In brazil the government give some incentives (discount on taxes) to companies that sells electronics with tv receiver ... Here most part of gps came with tv ...
This is why samsung decided to add tv on their phones ... Only here I think ...
My one came from germany ....

Check the iFixIt teardowm of the Galaxy Tab and you will see an empty space: in Brazil it is used for the additional DVB TV component

Good to know... Why couldn't samsung make it available everywhere?

Im guessing the tech specs in Brazil differ from say Europe or America. Therefore including a DVB reciever would be costly and in some cases pointless given that IP tv via GSM / Wi Fi is just as popular.

Could be. Also of course in this country the retailers have to pass on information to the TV licensing authorities if you buy a device that can receive over the air TV. You then get constant mail through the letterbox asking you to prove that you have a TV license. I suspect most manufacturers, retailers and consumers can't be bothered with the hassle .

Right, someone needs to work out what components that thing consists of so we can shoehorn it into the generic Tab's. How sweet would DVB-T be on one of these things!? Very, that's how.
I wonder if the kernel's all have support for the hardware and we just need the app installed.

DMB

Hi
Just wondering if anyone has tried to get DMB broadcasts on their Ploaris? Are there any special application to install, or is the Polaris not able to receive DMB at all?
Personally i would go with that it is not possible at all. As i dont even know of a phone in the UK that is able to do it. The only place that has it is either china or japan that it is possible to do it with a certain type of DVB broadcast.
If you want TV on your phone though try this app as it may do some of what you want
They've started up here in Norway with free broadcasts of 6 nation wide channels, so I'd like to get it on my HTC and not having to buy a brand new expensive one..
Bump.
Anyone?
just out of interest what HTC does this work with, maybe then there could be a way to get it to work on the polaris (not that i would be able to)
No idea ;-)
That's why I posted this question so that anyone whos HTC works could tell us...
Sent a question to HTC support and this is he answer:
"Thanks for your email. Currently NONE of our handsets support the reception of T-DMB braodcasts. Therefore if you are wishing to watch these braodcasts on a mobile handset, it would need to be of another brand. I am not aware of any plans to introduce a handset with this function at any point in the forseeable future. We here at tech support are not given details of upcioming devices very often, so there may be a device that i am not aware of. sorry i could not give you more positive information. Best regards, HTC Europe Support"
An the follow-up question on were the issue is I got this:
"Its a hardware issue i am afraid. T-DMB needs specific hardware to recieve the signal, just as you can not recieve digital terrestrial on an old analogue tv without a new hardware box to recieve it, the handset must have T-DMB hardware inside to be able to recieve and decode the signal. Best regards, HTC Europe Support"
So it seems like I'm not going to watch tv on my Polaris 'as-is'..

Question: Buying in the USA and using in the UK...?

hi all.
I'd like some advice. I have the chance to buy a new Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 32 GB tablet in the USA. The price is significantly better than the UK equivalent.
But what I need to know if will the device work in the UK? For example will I be able charge the device?
I'm assuming that I'd need to change the virtual keyboard settings from US to UK but that should be simple enough - I hope...
Sorry if this is an obvious question.
I'd rather not root the device if at all possible. I'm happy to buy one or two things to make the device mine since the saving is almost £250(!)
Thanks in advance for your help.
You just need to make sure that the charger works on 220V or that you are plugging it into 110V. Otherwise, I can't imagine any reason it wouldn't work for you.
You could get a 220->110 transformer pretty easily if necessary.
In case it is a 3G-version it might not work in Europe. USA has different radio-bands .......................
The US doesnt have a 3G version yet so no problems there.
Sent from my Galaxy S3 running DietICS
May need to change wifi region codes to access the correct 5 GHz frequencies, not sure.
Is buying a UK alternative charger an options...?

I'm pretty sure you can, doesn't the charger output USB voltage? 5V 1A? If so any android charger should work
The charger is 5v and 2A, but i think it could charge at 1Amp, but it will take longer.
There is also the prob that there are 2 different wifi models EU:8010, US:8013. But i think the difference is in wifi channels numbers. Maybe you can flash a 8010 ROM and it becames an UK model. This you need to find out.

Yeah. If you flashed a UK firmware on the N8013 it would most likely work.
You would lose the ability to use the IR port.
Any Samsung Tab-compatible 2A charger will work. iPad chargers will not work unless you use a charging adapter such as http://www.dealextreme.com/p/usb-data-charging-extension-cable-for-samsung-p1000-black-91141?item=4 (If that link breaks, search DX for P1000) - Samsung hasn't changed charger design since the original Tab, so P1000 chargers/charging adapters will work.
You don't need to change the radios, they're the same. D-Link, NetGear, et. al., sell the same routers internationally that they do domestically. If there was a compatibility issue my UK devices (and I have/had many) wouldn't work in the U.S. As for the 3G the Note's quad-band worldwide (except Korea) so it'll work just about anywhere.
One thing to keep in mind about using Samsung mobile devices outside their country of intended sale is that it affects your warranty. If a U.S. sourced Note needs repair they'll only repair it in the U.S. The same holds true in reverse. Samsung U.S. won't repair a Note intended for sale outside the U.S. They take a tough stance on gray market purchases and this has been proven time and time again. So you may want to compare the initial savings vs. the cost of roundtrip shipping to the U.S. should it ever need service.

Not true. Available 5 GHz frequencies are VASTLY different between the UK and US. See http://www.solwise.co.uk/wireless-5.htm
Similarly, Europe allows 2.4 GHz channels 12 and 13, the USA does not.

Then the radios compensate for the variations in channels. Like I said, the Note is my fifth international device and it has no problem working in the U.S. I travel a lot and have never had a Wi-Fi issue with any of them. My OG P7500 has been to every continent.

They will if you change the region configuration - with root and/or custom firmware that is possible. But if you use it "out of the box" - it won't work without hax.

None of my devices are rooted and all use OEM ROMs. Primarily because I've always had tons of issues registering on foreign 3G networks in my travels when I've used third party ROMs and radios. In all the forums for those devices I've never seen a discussion on Wi-Fi incompatibility based on region. Have you? I'd think people with U.S versions of popular phones like the SGS2 series, VZW Nexus, and HTC phones like the Vivid and Sensation would be reporting problems if they couldn't use their Wi-Fi properly when traveling overseas. I'm sure plenty of U.S. Samsung tablets have been used overseas when people travel also. And if U.S. iPhones and iPads had different radios than the international versions owners would be reporting incompatibility issues when using them abroad. So I get that there may be variations in Wi-Fi regionally but the radios must be designed to accommodate them. Otherwise this would be a much larger discussion and not just in the Note forum.
I'm from the UK, currently travelling in the US, and I just bought a 32GB note last Thursday...
The charger is compatible voltage-wise, all you need is a US->UK plug adapter...
I've also never had WiFi problems in my travels here in the US, I use an international 5.3" note, and WiFi works everywhere. I don't expect any problems.
When I switched the Note 10.1 on for the first time, it asked me what region I was in, I chose UK, and could have chosen anywhere...

Actually, if you look at the charger, the piece with the prongs on it snaps out. It's the same base charger worldwide with different prongs thrown in the box based on the region its being sold in. I carry a single charger and a half-a-dozen different prongs that I use depending on where I'm traveling.
Just what I needed to hear!!

Frankly the warranty point is a slight worry but for almost £170 saving it's worth the risk.
btw I don't mind paying the UK taxes, but I really resent being gouged by a few hundred pounds for no discernible service or product difference.
I don't care whether it's Samsung or the UK suppliers decision.

FM Tuner

I understand the the S6 has an FM tuner built in. Unfortunately, Verizon turns off the capability. I believe it works on Sprint though. What a bummer. I suppose Verizon just wants people to use data to listen to music.

Sorry but I dont believe the S6 has a FM tuner built in. I could not find one listed on any of the specs
Never used the one on my S4. Get Tunein app. It has all my local stations I would listen to and much more.
If it existed I would use it all the time. BUT I think that if it were built in, we would see it in the csc.
Sorry. For you and for me.
I have the sprint version. No tuner here
I don't think the Verizon variant has a FM tuner.

FM Radio on Samsung GALAXY - the full answer
I looked it up and the answer is stranger then you will expect.
The answer is that the same phone may or may not have FM radio support based on who sells you the phone, meaning – some mobile providers that sell you phones "lock" the FM feature so they can make more money off you from mobile internet.
In the US – if you buy your Samsung GALAXY from a company called "Sprint" you will have FM, else – you will not.
More than that – some models don't have the chip – so you won't get FM even if you buy from "Sprint" (S4 not mini and S5 mini).
After you buy the phone you can't "open the chip" as this seem to be a "hardware lock".
In Israel (where I live) it isn't clear if the official distributor has the FM chip locked or not, and if you buy from an unofficial distributer – there is no way to know – as it can came from anywhere in the world.
Even if you have the chip enabled, the new phones may come without an FM app and the only app that support the Samsung FM chip for the new phones is "Next Radio"nextradioapp.com
The app can't be download in Israel from the play store and you need to download it in other ways (for example get the APK).
The list of Samsung (and other android phones) that have radio is on this page: nextradioapp.com/supported-devices/- but you still need the chip enabled. (you can see the new S6 phones on that page)
There are more Android phones that have FM radio that are not on that page (Ex: Sony phones).
The radio stations in the U.S. opened a site to pressure the Carriers to open up the FM chips: freeradioonmyphone.org
I think this cover the topic.

Does the S7 have FM radio

Hi,
I'm not hopeful, but does anyone know if Samsung will see sense (like they did with waterproofing and a micro sd slot) and have an FM radio capability on the S7?
So far, I understand they have dropped IR; Samsung givith, Samsung taketh away ...

Tunein is indeed a great app and I use it - but it uses data, not FM.
The recently announced LG G5 uses the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset as the S7 so there is no technical reason why it shouldn't be there ...

I wouldn't trust pdadb's spec sheets for this.
In any case, for "Analog Radio:", they have "No information" for both links above; I'd trust gsmarena more, for the S7, they currently say "Radio To be confirmed".
Samsung Netherlands confirmed that the S7 (at least the Exynos version) doesn't have FM Radio.

Interesting to see that gsmarena state that the Sony Xperia X Performance does not have an FM radio whereas for the cheaper and slower Xperia X, it states it has "FM radio with RDS". Maybe gsmarena are just guessing this stuff too?

I read that (thanks, google translate!) but can't see the reference to the Exynos chipset? The guy just appears to be asking if the Galaxy S7 has FM radio and the reply to this is, sadly, "The S7 does not have an FM radio." But maybe you're right - other phones using the 820 sport FM radios ...
I think I'll give serious consideration to LG's G5 instead an S7 for my next phone:
It has a removable battery
It has IR
It has FM radio
The only thing it lacks in comparison to the S7 appears to be waterproofing which I do find useful.

I'm the same as you, currently using tunein on galaxy s6 and it's a massive battery drain. I read a statement from Samsung saying people who buy high end devices only use downloads or streaming, this was the reasoning behind the s4 fm radio absence. On gsmarena the s7 fm radio is yet to be announced, but I doubt it will reappear. I believe fm radio should be a feature of android devices but manufacturers seem to think on our behalf, check out Xiaomi mi5 and mi4s, that's what I'm considering.

Samsung is looking at this all wrong. FM radio should be on all phones when possible. Consider a natural disaster. A few years back when Joplin, MO was hit by a tornado cellular services was nonexistent for a while. Those antennas not destroyed were overwhelmed. One of the local radio stations at the time was campaigning phone companies to put FM on their phones.
So the S7/is actually the Samsung Hero?
