[ROM] Stock 2.1 Hero Update zip from RUU_Hero_C_Sprint_2.20.651.1_signed_test.exe

Since some people were interested I've made a stock update zip from the RUU_Hero_C_Sprint_2.20.651.1_signed_test.exe so you can flash via recovery.
This is just for those who want a completely stock rom to work off of or those that can't or don't want to run the RUU. If you want something already tweaked then use DamageControl. I'm not trying to start a custom rom I just did this for a couple people that wanted it.
It does not include the new hboot or radio.img included in the RUU and the system is stock except for adding busybox, patched su and sh.
To use su you need to install Superuser.apk.
Busybox is not installed by default you can do that through a terminal app or adb executing su and running "busybox --install /system/xbin".
You must be rooted and flash via Amon_ra recovery. Recommend nandroid backup and wipe/factory reset before flashing.
Here is a link to my post on how to make an update zip from the RUU.
Download link for the update/rom:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6022412/zen-hero_0.1b.zip
The link might be down since dropbox just suspended my public links due to excessive traffic.
Alternate download:
http://www.4shared.com/file/YqMmKAzL/zen-hero_01b.html
This is a link to my google code site where i put up some of the binaries/scripts that I use for rom making. These are linux binaries. If you download them put them in your path so you can execute them from anywhere. Also make sure you chmod them to executable. If you don't know how the google can tell you.
http://code.google.com/p/zen-droid/downloads/list
Due to recent events I just want to say that the devs here put a lot of work into getting you guys these leaked roms. They risk their credibility and their sources risk their jobs. So have some respect and remember it's just a phone.
Thank you,I'm sure a lot of people were wanting this.
What is the point of making a zip when you can just use the RUU?
My RUU just got done booting!

For people not running windows and for people that don't want to risk flashing hboot or the radio.img.
See I did not know it came with the radio image!
Just booted up fine and got the new radio image and a knew PRI# and was able to update my PRL as well!
Zenulator: heh I'm working on a rom I titled Zendroid... wonder if people will confuse it as being something related to you.

Yea I thought that was kind of funny. Nice name for a rom though
yeah well, I thought it had a nicer ring to it than fengshuidroid.... was going for a rom which was also centered around a nice clean theme to the sense ui. I'm still making headway on the project.

power + menu gives me a picture of the phone with ! .....
how can i load the recovery image ?
The phone is rooted but just wont take the revory image
Now this might be a stupid question, but do we need Root for this? I have a friend who's terrified of Rooting but really wants 2.1, so could he just Flash this through the Stock Recovery Image, or should I force him to Root?
Edit: NVM sorry I just read the 1st post on page 2. Told you it was a stupid question.
It seems like the flash_image command is missing.

Rooting the RUU 2.1 Sprint Leak

I am interesting in finding out how to root the RUU 2.1 Sprint Leak, I tried to root my 1.5 to install damagecontrol 2.06, but I had the newest patch and flashrek and other methods wouldn't root it.
Any Suggestions or Links to help me figure out how to load damagecontrol 2.06 rom and root the RUU 2.1 Sprint Leak.
Thanks so much

Well, the leaked RUU comes with root. Are you trying to root your stock hero on 1.5 to be able to flash things?

becuase when you used the ruu, it overwrote the custom recovery image with the stock test 2.1 recovery image.
You'll have to load the flash_image file on the phone and chmod it. Then flash the custom recovery again. I think I saw a guide somewhere in here.

not only the recovery, but the radio, bootloader, well, everything.
It's quite the long process to go back, don't know if anyone has tried it yet. Don't know if some of the things can go back a version.

Yeah, but, you don't have busybox installed, so you can't do really anything in adb shell.

I did it for the 2.10 radio and went back to flipz after.
Manually push flash_image to /system/bin >> You have to give flash_image permissions with adb
Code:
adb shell chmod 0755 /system/bin/flash_image
>> Root and reflash recovery (use this guide, except substitute 1.6.2 instead of 1.5.2 recovery (or use whatever recovery you want)>> Then reboot into recovery and nandroid back to your original build. You can even nandroid back to Fresh 2.0d and you will retain your new PRI.
If you have never made a backup, then download whatever ROM you want to try and use flash from .zip in recovery to flash the new ROM.
I included flash_image if you need it to push. This is not a .zip file, but I had to add .zip to attach it here. Rename it without the .zip or push it by typing
Code:
adb push flash_image.zip /system/bin/flash_image

Glad you got it working. To answer the question about .txt on the phone, others have reported that using a different browser works for downloading the .img file correctly. I think they used Dolphin browser from the market.
I tried method 2 and method 3 above without success. Trying to go from 2.5.0.1 to 3.0.0.5. Attempts to boot into recovery and then reboots again and boots normally. Suggestions?

don't flash the 3.0.0.5, you don't need it for GB. the reason I think people have been having so much trouble is that the recovery is overclocked, so some phones can't handle it. same thing goes for the GB rom, if it loops and hangs etc., just flash a capped 691 kernel after the rom and gapps, it *should* work.
OK NOW - TO ALL FUTURE POSTS - PLEASE DON'T, LOL.
AOSP MADE THIS RECOVERY AND IS CONSTANTLY UPDATING IT
3.0.0.5 CAN BE FOUND IN THE 2.3 GINGERBREAD THREAD

would you correct me if I said he made his rom, because technincally google MADE it, but he did in fact tweak it,build it,compile it, for the hero.

Method III worked fine for me. Just follow instructions carefully, and don't forget to do "su" first (lets terminal use root privileges).
I'm curious why RomManager doesn't update the version number. I know I'm using 3.0.0.5 because of the new orange text, but RomManager still shows 2.5.0.1
Anyone?

Everything Updated in one Place with CM 6.2 and CWM recovery

Okay so I went and got the latest working updates from everything and put it in a convenient package for you.
One Click Root Apk: Version 0.1.0
Radio: 2.42.02.10.29
HBoot: 1.47.0000
Kernel: 2.6.29.6 (up to 768 Mhz and its stable )
ClockworkMod Recovery: 3.0.0.5
CynanogenMod: 6.2 - No longer needed
S-OFF
Step by Step Instructions below.
The instructions are only for people running CynanogenMod and ClockworkMod recovery.
Unzip everything.zip to your sdcard
Also put Kernel.zip on your sdcard
You HAVE to install these in a specific order otherwise some things won't work.
Flash CynanogenMod 6.2 if you havent already. It has the latest kernel in it already which goes up to 768 Mhz. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=731659 here's the new link
Install Rom Manager and flash ClockworkMod recovery 2.5.0.1. Now you MUST backup with it.
Run the ruu included in the zip. this will give you the latest HBoot.
Boot into hboot mode (volume down and power button) and look to make sure it installed HBoot 1.4.7.0000
reboot
install heroroot010.apk
run heroroot.apk and it will give you darchstar's recovery and put a file on your sdcard called rootme.zip
reboot
reboot into Darchstar's recovery
flash rootme.zip
reboot
you now should have root and should have the super user app. if you dont then something went wrong and you should try again.
if you have root, download rom manager and flash ClockworkMod 2.5.0.1
restore your backup with ClockworkMod recovery
reboot
reboot to recovery
flash radio.zip
it will tell you to reboot after it is done.
this boot will take a while so be patient
reboot again
reboot into recovery
wipe dalvik
flash kernel.zip
reboot
reboot recovery
warning: there is no hboot s-on for the cdma hero YET. they are working on it though.
flash S_OFF.zip
reboot
you now have hboot s-off
reboot into recovery
plug phone into computer
run the following code in adb:
adb shell
mount sdcard
flash_image recovery /sdcard/CWMR3.0.0.5.img
exit
adb reboot recovery
reboot
done!

You really need to credit the people who made this stuff in your op unless you want to get infracted or banned. Also this is a pointless thread as these things can be easily found by searching. And you haven't developed anything here so this should be in another forum, not development. Seems like you just keep making threads in development of other peoples work for no reason. Way to go.

I tried that... unless you know a specific version of SU to flash because the one I have isn't working
download this http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=821265&d=1324235293
and flash it

If you are rooted skip step 1
STEP 1: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1138755 Root it and unlock it
* I strongly suggest you understand what this will do. So check out this guide
http://theunlockr.com/2010/12/17/how...msung-nexus-s/
Once you have done this, make a folder in your phone called ROMS ( or anything doesnt matter) download the rom that you will be using, this zip and the SU zip. It will make it easier on you
Sub step 1.5: WIPE CACHE AND WIPE DATA
STEP 3: Flash the 4.0.3 Rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1398302
Once you've done this, it will delete the recovery that you got and it will install the stock recovery
STEP 4: Flash this http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1396959
this will make Superuser work allowing you to download ROM Manager and letting you flash recovery from there. Make sure to allow it

Tried it... it isn't a full stable root. meaning it doesn't give the root permissions prompt from SU once you are using 4.0.3

Guys, it really isn't difficult or compled. You just have to follow the instructions carefully and do it one stage at a time.
Here is what I have just run through myself after losing root following the OTA update to ICS 4.0.3.
Before anything else you'll need the Android SDK installed so you have access to the adb and fastboot commands on your PC/Mac/Linux. If you haven't done that then you aren't going anywhere further. I already had this installed.
First, gather the two files that you'll need to install on your Nexus S, these are:
Superuser from here --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1396959
and
Recovery from here --> http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Ne...de#Installing_the_ClockworkMod_Recovery_Image
Copy the file on to the Nexus S in a suitable directory or root, it doesn't matter, you'll be using it later.
Then, and only then, you should follow the instructions on the Wiki page to install the recovery.zip to your Nexus S
Boot the Nexus S into recovery and choose install zip from sdcard.
Select the Superuser.zip file (it may be a longer filename) and press go, it will install Superuser
Reboot back into Android and load up a suitable file manager (I use root explorer).
Navigate to /etc and rename the file installrecovery.sh to something else (I just appended .old to the filename)
Reboot back into bootloader and repeat the flash recovery recovery.img
Thats it, your'e done. Rooted and with Recovery permanent on the Nexus S.
Caveat: If any of the above doesn't mean very much to you then STOP right now. Get someone you know to help you or you'll likely end up with a brick.

Well I tried this but something happened that I was not prepared for. I have the OTA 4.0.3 update installed and I actually flashed it with the stock recovery that already came with my Nexus S. Surprisenly, now, I can't boot to recovery. I press the power button and the phone reboots, then quickly a "dead" droid appears with a red attention sign on his belly and the phone goes black and I need to get the battery off. It does not boot into recovery, it does not respond, its simply black. What the hell should I do? Please help I'm new to the NS, just bought it this week
EDIT: Everything else is working fine. Just cant access my recovery

I was wondering if someone has found a method to root the latest Nexus S update from the OTA version instead of needing to flash a new rom. I don't feel like resyncing my 3000+ contacts and join the facebook and twitter contacts.
It would really help if i could get root permissions and su working properly by flashing a file or something. Thanks to all that help in advance

I can tell you what worked for me: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1479831
I'm running stock ICS on i9023, now rooted but with bootloader still locked.
Credits go to saurik who found the exploit (https://github.com/saurik/mempodroid)
