been searching for 10+ hours and no luck or solution.
i was on gummycharged ep1f/ep1h rom and everything was working fine until today.
i don't know what triggered it, but my phone just restarted and then lost all signal.
after searching and looking at phone info, i found first line under baseband version shows "unknown".
tried flashing to every possible roms out there using odin and it would not bring the phone back to life.
funny thing is i have no problem w/ 4glte service, which allows me to surf and download but no voice service.....
do i have no choice but to go to verizon for replacement phone?

yeah I'd take it into them, sounds like some hardware got fried.. however I'd probably try to flash a froyo rom for whatever good it'd do, if they somehow can check baseband and it shows GB your warranty is void and they will not fix or replace it

Had the same problem with my Fascinate. After a flash I lost all 3G and phone capabilities. What I did was reset my phone line with the esn of an old phone I had lying around. Go to this thread. It will show you what you need to do.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1051543. I took mine to Verizon, and also spent hours with tech support and, to no avail. This esn swap did the trick. Good luck.

yes, all the roms i flashed had full radio from ED1, ED2, EE4, EP1F
none worked....
i'll try to search and see if esn method works that someone mentioned above.
keeping my fingers crossed....

it will cancel your unlimited data and there is no way to bring it back.

i called Verizon and had them do it over the phone. In other words, they moved my line to a dummy ESN on their end and some random number to my phone and then switched it right back, all while my phone was off, so when my phone was turned back on it got re provisioned on their network, which fixed my 3G data issues......but i dont think this is the OP's solution. When i had that problem I had phone service, just intermittent or no 3g data is all

You won't lose your unlimited data unless you switch to an ESN that is not a smartphone. I have switched my line a couple times and still have unlimited.

well if you are stock ee4 unrooted I think you are golden. Take your phone to verizon and have them deal with it.

I am not sure abotu this (not saying it is wrong but I never tried) I say take the 20 minutes on the phone with VZW and let them do it...
UPDATE
took it to verizon store twice, got sim cards replaced twice at two different locations.
still no go, rep recommended me to contact replacement center.
talk to tech for and hour trying to figure it out,
the tech announced that my cdma radio is fried.....
so i asked when i'll get the replacement and he said sometime on tuesday.
and i asked if i could use my really old LG non-smart phone for time being and he said i'll loose my unlimited data and moved to 2gb tiered data plan...
so i guess i'll be out of service until tuesday....

Hey I believe ya, I am just in the better safe than sorry frame of mind when it comes to the unlimited data structure. It does make sense though since i did switch from the fascinate to the charge without losing it
they told me this will only work if you went from smart phone to another smart phone.
however, if you went to non smart phone and then smart phone, you'd lose your unlimited plan.
I'm surprised this couldn't be fixed with a software flash. I came from a Samsung Epic and this was a regular occurrence on at least one of the Gingerbread leaks. Happened to me at least once - used ODIN and reflashed the whole shebang (full TAR with modem) and got it back up and running.
i wish there was an easy fix like you said.
then i don't have to wait for them to send me replacement device and also saves me from hassle of reapplying invisible shield. the maximum protection kit is pain in the ass to apply.
i've flashed with every single rom+radio out there in many different order with both odin 1.3/1.7/1.8 and samsung pstlite.
i've also tried flashing radio only and still no luck.
My family owns a restaurant and the mesmerize was sitting in our lost + found for about 2 months. I figured out a way past the security on it by waiting for the phone to die.
Just before it dies, the home screen is showed and I was able to pop in the charger and use the phone that way.
I went through the contacts calling mom dad and girlfriend, to see if I could return the phone to the owner
Girlfriend says she has no idea what I'm talking about.
Dad gave me a number to reach someone and it was disconnected. Moms number was disconnected. Home number disconnected.
Dad told me his son used to live in the area but now moved to florida...
I went to the us cellular store and they said they couldn't figure out how to find the owner.
Anyways. I'm trying to unlock the phone so that even if the phone was reported lost/stolen, ill be able to give the phone to my friend on us cellular so he can use it.
Does anyone know how to bypass uscellular trying to prevent the phone from being used? What can I do about this?

I work for uscc and glad you were able to return the.device.. Technically with most android you dontt beeneed to wait for it to die but can do a factory reset or master clear to remove security and make it like a new phone but would lose everything except as card.. As far as uscg goes, we arentt necessarily suppose to mark the ran missing since it is a hassle to get that status removed to be able to use it.. We notate the account saying not to.activate the ran since it is lost/stolen and only time can get it activated if the associate doesntt do there job and look the ran up which happens quite often.. F was marked missing, only owner of the phone can go.through a process to have it unlocked.. if he is in florida he must be on a nationwide plan because we have no uscg network and he would be roaming and would not be able to change his number to a florida number.. And unfortunately now the mesmerize is.discontinued and we have the shaw now
So I recently tried upgrade to the Gnex, the price didn't match in store to what was online with the upgrade. Which was fine, I just ordered online instead. But in the process of upgrading the store rep activated a new SIM card which deactivated the old one. So the rep proceeded to give me a new one and in the process asked for my phone. Now the rep is holding my phone and is about to turn it on when I think "Oh ****, I should've went back to stock before coming here." Yes. That's right. I made the rookie mistake. Now the Verizon rep continued to boot the phone ensure that the new SIM was active. As usual I assume it began to give voodoo, script manager, and voltage control superuser permissions and displayed such messages on the home screen. Now the rep didn't say anything to me about the phone being rooted, didn't immediately type anything in on the computer, so I just said "Thanks. Have a good day." and got the hell out.

You are safe.
If you get a notice or whatever happens when they discover you've rooted your device, you walk back in with your phone stock. You say she must have been mistaken. They have no proof. They sure as hell won't want to lose you as a customer over something like this in case they are wrong. There is no proof. It was never brought to your attention at the time, so she never verified or confirmed with you that your phone was rooted.

The only times I know of that you'll have an issue:
1. You're having an issue with your phone that aren't related to the SIM being deactivated. (XYZ app isn't working as an example)
2. You're sending your phone in for warranty replacement.
Otherwise, most people probably don't care that you've done anything to the phone.
what Imnuts said... also the reps in the few stores by where I live probably don't even know what root is, the few times I've brought in a rooted/rommed phone they either don't know what's going on or think its cool or are fascinated by it, no issues... had an employee friend check my account recently and nothings there lol

Upon returning home from a business trip, the dreaded NO SIM error started creeping up on my phone again. 2.5 weeks in Salt Lake City, no issue. Back in TN, horrid NO SIM errors abound. I called Verizon tech support today, and he noticed I already exchanged the phone for a new one, along with a new SIM. One thing he mentioned, it looked like I was "roaming" in the system, so he reset some routers (his words) after having me pull the battery and wait a couple of minutes before powering the S3 back up. Sure enough, on the drive home from work, the phone had a NO SIM issue... so I unplugged the battery for the rest of the drive home. Once inside, I plugged the battery back into the phone, everything looked hunky dory, so I went about my business... and sure as s***, the phone gave me another NO SIM. So I contacted Verizon again, and she offered me any Android phone as a replacement. Now, I don't know if you guys have looked at the current line up for Verizon's Android based smartphones, but it's basically the Moto Razr or the Samsung Galaxy S3. I have not found a case that I absolutely love, so I have invested in quite a few so far, plus additional charging cradles, car mounts, etc... frustrating because I love this phone, but I use it for work, so I can't deal with this issue much longer.
If you had to select another phone to replace it, what would you go with? The new RAZR M? (lose NFC, smaller and crappier screen, etc) The RAZR Maxx?

No other phone on Verizon can touch the S3. Only phone that can be comparable is something that is not out yet.
Then when it comes out, they will tell you it is to new.

Might hold out for the Note 2. Testing something currently... wondering if Go SMS is the issue, seeing as the problem seems to creep up with some sort of combination of texting and calls. Will update tomorrow.
Did you apply the latest update? It should have updated automatically OTA, unless you are running custom unlocked rooted whatever ROM. In that case go to dev section and download latest radio and flash it. Should fix that damn no SIM problem.

Yep, already flashed last week. Tech Support told me tonight they have been fielding calls post patch showing it didn't fix the issue. If they are offering me any android of my choice, they are probably as flustered as I am. Almost went to a Rezound, a step backwards, I know, but I am at wit's end. Will see how the next week goes.
Sorry to hear. Try and hold out for a fix. I came from a rezound, and while I loved my HTC phones, this s3 is great. Too different to compare.

A fix is being pushed out today to address this issue. S3 is bar far the best phone you will find out there...

Verizon is super frustrating. I switched from Sprint and got the Gnex, along with the "mute issue" where all of a sudden your microphone stops working during a call and you have to hang up. I've had the phone replaced and the replacement still does it so they offered me an "early upgrade" if I buy the S3 for $200.00. I did some research and found out about the no sim issue on the S3 so when I called back to tell them I didn't want an S3 they offered a RAZR M at $99.00 :/
I'm really considering breaking my contract with them to get a phone I like that works as it's supposed to.
Ya. This issue is really bugging me. I honestly believe there is a hiccup between the phone and the tower when a text is sent. I noticed at home that when I have wifi connected, and then send a text, the S3 will connect to 4G to send the message. At that point, something triggers in the phone and it loses connectivity with the SIM.
Not that this helps much... I explained it to level 2 support and they kept telling me how it was a new to them issue.

You're not kidding. I don't know if they REALLY don't know about these issues or they are just lying.
Tier 2 was who was helping me with the replacement phone and when I mentioned the No Sim error they said they had never heard of it and the only problem he's ever seen with an S3 is when a user doesn't turn off their old phone when activating a new phone :/

Ya, it amazes me that their "level 2" support still tries this excuse. Every time they try this with me, I ask them to tell me what the latest S3 software update addresses, and then the phone gets quiet, followed by excuses and them never hearing about it... even tho Verizon put out a patch to fix the issue.
Keep documenting it, tis the only way it's going to get addressed, or at the very least you will have ammo to get a new phone.

Have you tried the new HD modem for S3 yet?
Following guidance from the 2nd level tech after calling tech support, I stopped by the local verizon store today to pick up a new SIM. This is my third SIM, but she assured me there was a bad batch floating around the stores. We'll see... fingers crossed.

A friend of mine had the same issue, we both have the GS3 and live in the same area. She gets constant sim errors while I've never got one and I switch between 3G/4G frequently. She recieved a new sim a few weeks ago and hasn't had an error since. Seems a lot of sims are incorrectly configured with Verizon's network, just an educated guess.

I am amazed. 24 hours, not a single NO SIM error. Maybe I was un-lucky enough to get two bad SIMs the first time...

Still not a single no sim error. I am about 24 hours from saying it was a bad batch of SIM cards... never thought I would say that.
I had it unlocked almost 3 months ago it a Sprint phone. Im using Tmobile but i can't get any software updates it will show on my top notification bar on phone but when i try to download it, nothing it won't download. The company that unlocked did they mess it up? I'm very new at this. When i shut my s8plus off and back on a screen comes on home screen I sent a screenshot what is says all the time i turn it back on I have to hit update successful ok...don't make no sense to me it did it after they unlocked it for me. I know my S8plus is a great phone but it very behind on updates and security patch. Please help me. I call the company that unlocked it says nothing they did lol...well they done something wrong for when i shut it off and back on that screen keeps coming on...Thank you. I went to Tmobile being better network and unlimited and the bill one monthly cost the same.

Try moving to the unlocked firmware or update it manually through Odin.

Occurs to every phone that gets unlocked from the original carrier. Even though it's quite dumb. My suggestion is to continue to read and learn more about the device. However if you can locate the proper tmo build for your phone.. Should be CRB7 or higher. Maybe CRB9 you can update to the latest version through the SD card if you have one. I stress that if you have any issues with how you can get into recovery mode, or updating in this manner, do not attempt until you feel comfortable doing this. The quick and easy way would be to switch to the Sprint SIM and then you can get the updates over the air. If you unlocked the phone this should not be a problem.
Try to use my old Sprint SIM card not activated. Says no data connection or network. I have a SD card. I want to do this. I know how to get into recovery mode etc...with power button and volume up and Bixby button.
