me too, but i have to admit... there is a difference from my tab for the first 10 minutes it boots compared to after i open a couple apps. even if i try to kill all running processes with a task manager and it says it closed them all. it slows just a tiny bit
but all in all i wouldn't change a thing about my gtab other than light up soft keys and a different lcd. but even those aren't a big issue

i tried this lagfix and it failed for me. i could not install the ext2 tools in order to run the lagfix. however this lagfix apk has the onclick root on it as well as the lagfix, pretty handy if it worked.

ext2 is the only choice you have when trying to run this app

The explanaton of why ext2 vs. ext4 for lagfix, and the lagfix app/adb shell script is here;
http://forum.androidcentral.com/fascinate-roms-hacks/34047-lag-fix.html

so i score 1841... do i need to get the new lag fix?

we need a comparison of CM vs. TnTLite vs. ZPadClean on quadrant scores!

So the question is..... how can we apply the lag fix? I've used it on my samsung phone and s few other mods and I benchmark 3x stock. I've tried on the tab and no luck, same issue wanting ext2.

Both of my Zpad V2.0 and TnT v2.02 score about the same as yours. That's fast, not really need to get lagfix. I'm just curious and like to tinker with new toy.

I applied it on TNT stock and didn't change my 1850 by any extent...

best performance?
So, is there a definitive method for getting the best performance out of my gtab?
have not installed zTab or TnT lite.. still using OOB I guess? Sorry, still a newb to all of this. Have it rooted and a lot of apps installed, is there a real difference using TnT Lite and zTab? And sorry if this is wrong forum, just seemed to fit with the discussion...

Stock firmware is unusable for me (slow UI, force closes, etc, ....)
Zpad or Tnt-Lite is just .... FAST! You will definately see the different.
Make sure to use Titanium Backup to back up all your apps before loading new firmware.

Thanks rickyt63,
I have downloaded and installed Titanium Backup, but whenever I start the application I get the message:
"Warning: BusyBox works but the "su" command does not elevate to root: "whoami" reports "whoami: aplet not found" instead of root/uid o. I think your "Superuser Whitelist" system app does not work. Please check with your ROM provider"
Is this a common error and I just need to install something else or is there something funky with my tablet? Sorry for all the questions, just want to make sure i don't brink my tablet.
thanks again...

TnT Lite?
And which thread tells me how to backup and install TnT Lite?
I did a quick search and didn't find it...

To use Titanium Backup, your GTab needs rooted.
Best way is:
- install TnT-Lite from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=842004
* already rooted for you.
Be sure to read all instructions posted in 1st page.
Hope this help.

thanks again... I'm rooted and making a backup now.

- Default CPU clock will be 1.0ghz with ondemand , changable thru setcpu or if you want to edit the kernel directly. I have never been a fan of the overclocking apps as once the system is boot they need to wait for the SU to grant permissions for the settings. this way it is from boot.
Remove the script below to use setcpu
If you would like to change the defaults in the kernel just look in system/etc/init.d/ 80screenstate_scaling
echo 245760 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_min_freq
echo 1209600 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_max_freq
System Currently boot at 1.2 ghz with the script. if you have issues with this speed remove the sript and reboot. This will allow for the settings in the kernel to boot at 1ghz.
- Unlocked 3G USB tethering & Sprint Hotspot - no need for any other apks aka wired or wireless tether
- Read ahead fixed to 256k for the SDcard (speed fix) - should increase the read times from sdcard

good deal nand welcome to the shift. ha ha. bout to test this out know. ive tried out some of your hero stuff and seen the good work you've done.
I did a full wipe before flashing, and it booted up, but does not seem to have a functioning launcher. If I turn the screen off, and back on, I see the lock screen, but swiping down results in a black screen.
Make sure you have cache wiped too, sounds like maybe a corupt download.

I apologize, I already did a nandroid recover. Everything went through fine on the logcat, but after boot it kept giving me an error in regard to wakelock not responding. I probably had a bad download. I will try again this weekend (have to go meet the wife right now) and let you know the results. I am really excited to run this, so I am sure I can get it to work eventually. Thanks a lot for your work on this.

Well that is great then considering odex vs deodexed, cause we all now that there is about a 15 to 20% loss with deodexing a rom. Once I get my shift I will odex and really get into slimlineing the rom, just like the HeroC
Man it is great to see you here!! When I sold my hero, the guy wanted to keep your ROM that I was running on it. Paypal is about to see some action once I try this out.

[Q] Some questions about Dexter's and Wanted's FroYo ROMs [+Updated]

Guys, I just got my XT720 and I'm going to either flash it for Wanted's froYo or keep stock Eclair + Jit and App2SD. From what I read, wanted's lastest ROM seems the best option for me me once I don't use Wi-Fi, but I got some questions that I din't find in the release topic:
1. Does the native App2SD for FroYo works?
2. Flash Player Works?
3. If the native APP2SD doens't works, can I apply this method :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7909401&postcount=52 on this ROM, or if I do this before flash for 2.2 will it keep JIT em App2SD?
4. How do I check wich stock ROM I'm using? I just got the phone, bought it in USA, but I guess it's the Euro version coz MotoNav has only Euro maps.
I guess is it, thanks in advice.

3. I know Dexters ROMs will automatically move the user apps to an ext2(3?) partition if it's there. In addition Mioze7Ae patch to 1.3 offers additional configurations as to how this works, I'm not sure about XAVs ROMS in this respect.
I am watching XAVs ROMs & once he fixes the bugs in the 1.3 beta I'll be giving it a try. Kahlpowers also has some nice themed variations, you can check out his builds in his post in the theme section (you'll want to look towards the end of the thread as the themes at the beginning are based on 2.1 eclair).

Thank you very much, so I'll just flash Dexter's or Xav's ROM. I'll read a bit more about Dexter's lastest release, I was going to try Xav's coz people said it's faster than Dexter's and actually the only bugs reported aren't that bad ( at least for me) but Dexter's maybe a better option while Xav's doesn't fix all bugs. Thanks again =)
Guys, I flashed my phone to Dexter's 1.3 ROM, it's working fine, but I have "2" new questions:
1. I want install that Honeycomb Theme from Kahpower http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11986041&postcount=192 how do I install it, same way I did to install Dexter's or gotta flash for stock and redo the whole process?
1.1- I NEED TO create that ext3 partition or is it optional?
1.2- Is this ROM the same as Dexter's 1.3 but with the new theme?
2- What's yours phone avarage temperature? Even with stock ROM I think my XT is a too hot near the camera, it says 41°C Avarage, is it normal?
Thanks in advice!
You download the KPs nandroid file & unzip it then copy the xthoneycomb folder to the /nandroid/openrecovery/ folder on yours sdcard & then just boot into OpenRecovery & nandroid restore just like the installation of Dexters Froyo, no need to flash back to stock & the ext3 patition is optional it will use it if its there but its not necessary. Khalpowers themes throw in a few other tweaks but are generally built off Dexter's Froyo.

Thanks again man, I feel safer now to do it, got this phone there isn't even a day and I'm already flashing it, so I'm a bit scared of doing any mistake and Bricking it..
And a final question, Quadrant and Milestone Overlock show CPU defaut Clock as 550 Mhz, shouldn't it be 720?
Edit:
Just flashed it: OMG this is so beatiful ! The collors match perfectly with XT720's collor (Graffite front/blue rear) ! And the way that the pages/tabs pop in on the screen is so cool ! It's a completly new phone, much better. Now is just install my apps and have fun! =D the only thing that is worrying me is that fact that the phone is very hot, even at 550 Mhz.. dunno if it's the XT720 normal temperature, but I don't think so.
I have the questions regarding the installation of the ROM Dexter,
1. ext3 will need to take before making the change in ROM, or that I can do next?
2. To work App2Sd is necessary to partition the SD?
Thanks for the help
1) you can do that after you flash the Froyo
2) you don't need to if you plan to use Froyo's Apps 2 SD
but you need to if you want to use Link2SD

Check here for info about Milestone OC settings (I run 1GHZ @ 60vsel, governed with SetCPU).
@ Tavinsky
It is my understanding that the check for an ext3 partition happens at boot, so you I think you could "add" this feature later & yes you will have to partition your sdcard to take advantage of the apps2ext feature. Note that Froyo native apps2sd which can copy compatible apps to a hidden folder on the FAT32 works without any re-partitioning.

Thanks guys, I'm about to change the ROM, their responses are very helpful.

I know, that wasn't my point.. I mean, thats like my XT's processor orginal clock is 550Mhz, even at 2.1 stock it was 550 Mhz, but isn't the stock 720Mhz? or there are differents types of XT720? And thats totally weird, but at 550Mhz my phone was a firebar ( 41°C at no use and 45 at common use ), I overclocked it to 1000Mhz and it's normal now lol (38°C).
BTW, someone know how to disable the new voice mail notification on status bar? It's stucked there and I can't remove it.. I've already read all my voice mails, tried everything and it still there =(

Wantedrom 1.3 screen rotate/youtube upload
So I've tried all the variation from Dexter's first 2.2 rom and have stopped with the latest Wanted Rom1.3
Two things I'm not liking...
1: my screen will not rotate if I am using the keyboard for a text message and would like the larger button layout.
2: I no longer have the option of uploading a video from my phone directly to Youtube. Youtube downloads were only done using stock2.1 so maybe I missed that this was missing from the roms I've previously tried as well.
anybody have any thoughts?

Of course, it's "on". I even reflashed this ROM again and wiped all cache and set to factoty settings before it. Problem stays the same - no autorotate.
Tried Wanted ROM 1.2 and Dexter 1.3, everything works there. The problem seems to be in this Wanted ROM version.

Autorotate
The screen will rotate for games and applications that require a landscape view instead of portrait but not for anything where it is an option.
I backtracked a little and set my phone to wantedrom 1.2. I didn't even do a factory reset as everyone is always insisting is necessary. Autorotate fixed, all my applications stayed loaded and functional as before.
Overclocked at 1200 MHz , 80vsel and the phone is screaming fast.
After I typed this, I checked the wanted forum and found his solution to the sensor issue...

OK..switching from vegantab 5.1.1 to Calkulin

First...appologies to those who get frustrated with the newb who shouldn't attempt this if they have to ask how....
I am fortunate to own a GTAB that came already loaded with Vegan 5.1.1 and so I have not had the opportunity to do any tinkering myself. I have read the sticky on CWM and the process seems simple enough. I have read through the threads on the various ROMS but have not read of anything that seems complete enough or enough of an upgrade to make me want to switch from Vegan..... until Calkulin.
Of course the ROM I want is the one that seems to stray from the simple use CWM method. Specifically as it relates to backup and recovery. Right now Vegan is very stable and does everything I want it to do. So, why change... because from what I have read, Calkulin's ROM does everything, is stable, and does it with overclocking built in. And I can't help myself.
If my Tab goes all Charlie Sheen with this upgarade, I need to be able to find my way back. I can use CWM to make a backup of my current setup however I am concerned that all the other steps for this ROM ( using Calkulin's format and nvflash) will obliterate my backup and my CWM install for that matter.
I can use a search function. I am not asking to be spoon fed. Vegantab 5.1.1 is arguably one of the most installed ROMS on the GTAB and I'm sure there are many people who will want to take this route to Calkulin. If someone has made this jump, I think that they would be helping out many here by posting a step by step or at the very least, a what to be careful of post.

It does not support overclocking, as none of the kernels do at this time (unless that has changed since last night). Honestly, unless you want to tinker for the sake of tinkering, I'd leave Vegan on there.
Um, Calkulin gTab 1.1 doesn't require anything special to flash it. It was about as easy as it gets. Use CWM recovery to run his format all.zip, his rom update.zip, and if you want a custom kernal update.zip. Reboot and you are done.
Make a backup and copy your cwm file to a PC as a backup. I would use the format all if switching from vegan to a tnt lite varient. Also I would invest in titanium backup. It will save all your apps and data that you can back up on PC and restore after a new rom is flashed.
That said, I say stick with vegan. I love to tinker but I always come back to vegan 5.1.1.
Good luck
OK, I totally suck....
My head got turned inside out. I confused Calkulin' s format all zip with the one in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=974422
and started to think that this process was a lot more involved. I guess researching too much is not always a good thing.
@ramerco I suppose you have flashed from Vegan to Calkulin's. I guess his format all.zip doesn't take CWM off like the one from the other post? Is switching back and forth as easy as choosing your backup?

I've been switching from TnT-Lite/VeganB511/Vegan7 GB/Calkuin's multiple times just using CWM backup/restore with no issue.
Remember to do 3 wipes before restore or flashing firmwares:
- Wipe data/factory reset.
- Wipe cache.
- Wipe Dalvik cache
@rickyt63 Are you doing these three wipes instead of Calkulin's format all or in conjunction with it.
Also to those who have tried both Vegan 5.1.1, Vegan 7 and Calkulin can you give your brief comparisons of these three? Pros, cons, which do you prefer? Why?
I also have been doing a lot of switching between 5.1.1 tnt lite vegan ginger experimentals just using CWM like above - you just need to do a factory reset wipe cache and the dalvic cache. I think it helps to wipe dalvik cache again after the ROM is flashed. Calkulins Rom is by far the fastest and when you flash clemsyn's froyo v3 kernel on top of that you get a great result. Titanium backup allows you to easily restore all your apps and settings even after a factory reset
Clemsyn said that he has a new kernel tweaked just for calkulins rom which he may release soon.
Thanks for the clarification, rocky3. The guy I bought the GTAB from used CWM to erased all his user data before he gave it to me but I know that I either have Titanium backup on there or have the .apk in my download folder.
I'm off to learn more. Thanks again!

@rickyt63 Are you doing these three wipes instead of Calkulin's format all or in conjunction with it.

I did not use Calkulin's format when switching roms. Only 3 wipes.
Here are some thoughts about Roms: They're all fast and stable IMO.
1) TnT-Lite V4.2.5: Quadrant score ~ 2400.
- Pro: Fast and stable. Did not delete media from sdcard2.
- Con: boot up seems a little slow due to sdcard2 scanning, but after scanning it's fast.
2) Vegan V1B5.1.1: Quadrant score ~ 2600-2700.
- Pro: Fast and stable. A tad faster than TnT-Lite.
- Con: media delete from sdcard2. fixed: create a ".nomedia" file in sdcard2.
3) Calkulin V1.1: Quadrant score ~ 2600-2700.
- Pro: Fast and stable. A tad faster than TnT-Lite. Monster Madness run flawlessly.
- Con: media delete from sdcard2. fixed: create a ".nomedia" file in sdcard2.
4) Vegan7 Ginger Bread Experimental
- Pro: Fast, Nice Ginger Bread UI
- Con: Audio still clunky, some games don't work properly vs. TnT-Lite/Vegan V1B511
BTW, I use TnT-Lite or Vegan V1B511 as daily driver.
Hope this help.
Rich, thanks so much for your reply! When I look at your evaluation of vegan 5.1.1 and calkulin and I couple that with Butch's advice here and elsewhere, it makes my decision easy. For now, I will stay put with Vegan.
At some point, I will have to nvflash back to stock in order to take a viewsonic update ( I assume this will be the only way to get a honeycomb based rom, if that is even in the cards for the gtab). At this point, it doesn't seem that there is anything out there worth risking what I have now... a perfectly stable rom which does everything I need it to do with a full market.
I still get the itch to change up my tab even though I love where I'm at with VEGAn beta5.1.1, so I started changing themes, bootanimations and boot logos. There are some pretty cool themes made by gto777 that flash with cwm or metamorph. You can find those in the apps and themes thread. Awesome boot animations can also be found there along with instructions on how to load them. If you already know that nvflash is in your future you may want to get a little practice in with it early by changing your boot logo. Nothing made me happier than getting rid of the birds on boot and changing it out for a nvidia tegra2 logo. Its a fun task and there have been people posting their custom boot images for use on the sticky thread in the above mentioned section. Thinking I may re do mine this weekend, saw someone had put their name, number and email on the boot logo. Pretty cool feture as the boot logo survives through rom flashing. Seams pretty handy in cases of loss or theft.
Anyway hope this helps with the flashing itch. Have fun!
OK, so it seems that today's announcement puts honeycreams even further out of our reach.
I can't see myself making changes just for cosmetic purposes. I would only change for either a performance increase or greater compatability with newer software.
It seems that vegantab 5.1.1 will be it for me for a while until maybe the gingerbread version is fully baked.

Help Requested: ROM/Kernel/Theme for XT720

I have been spending many hours, days, and weeks trying to learn as much as possible about modding my android....but I am still a little lost.
Details:
Motorola Motoroi XT720 (I am in Korea)
S/W version: STSKT_N_79.33.50R
Android Version: 2.2.1 (Just upgraded the other day from Motorola's website)
Kernel Version: 2.6.29-omap1
Also, I am rooted.
I am not sure if I am unable to mod mine to the extent that others can (due to mine being the Korean version), or if it just the fact that I am still learning and not completely "Android Savy" yet. But if I could get some assistance, it would be greatly appreciated.
I'd hate to say it, cause I can be pretty smart, but if it could be be broken down "Barney Style" for me, that would be great.
I would like to change up the phone to have a much more powerful machine. Without lag, runs faster/smoother (overclock), change the appearance (black status bar, etc), and pretty much anything else possible.
I see some ROMs that say they are for "Dexter's 2.2", etc...would those work for me even though I have the "legit" 2.2 from Motorola?
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!!
One problem you will encounter is that the Motoroi has a much smaller system partition than what we use on Dexter-derived XT720 ROMs. So I don't think you will be able to copy on Dexter's ROM (or the modified Dexter ROMs). That said, I don't think you need it:
If you haven't already you should see if you can get Open Recovery or Androidiani Recovery (better) installed so that you can backup and restore when things don't work.
For overclocking, try Milestone Overclock from the market. I think it was updated recently to support the Motoroi kernel, but I could be wrong. If it doesn't work, you just need to make an init.d script to load the kernel module with the correct offsets (I can give more details if needed).
For theming, see if Metamorph (in market) works. There's a gingerbread theme http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=955698 that you can try to see if the morphs we're using are compatible.
Other things to try are old school app2sd if you have low internal memory (Motoroi is partitioned for more internal memory than the Dexter ROMs).

I have Root Manager and have backed up with that...Will that work just fine?

I have tried the milestone overclock and it wouldnt work for me. Everytime I tried to "Load Module", it would just say "Load Failed".
If you could further explain what an init.d script is, and how to load it...that would be great.

I'll be sure to check that you, how do you recommend applying the themes? I've seen numerous ways of doing it. Metamorph app?

After upgrading to 2.2, I am now able to move apps to my SD Card...does that work just fine, or would app2sd offer more for me?

I'm not sure Root Manager can help you if you get stuck in a bootloop. The recoveries will let you save bit-perfect images of the phone that can be restored (nandroid).

Ok, you can create boot scripts, but this could be pretty involved and take a lot of time. I don't think Motorola's stock ROMs run /system/etc/init.d directory scripts so it would involve creating a boot hijack. The easiest thing may be to file a bug report so that Milestone Overclock can be updated for the Motoroi 2.2 kernel. This would be the best solution. Run:
cat /proc/kallsyms > /sdcard/kallsyms.txt
and post the kallsyms.txt and your kernel version (i.e. something like 2.6.32.9 [email protected]#1, but from your phone) to:

Metamorph is an app. It's pretty easy when it works.

Yeah, that's completely fine. Don't bother if you don't need it.

[Q] How to edit files via terminal?

I'm trying to edit text in a specific file and save the changes.
I've found info on how to flash, push, pull, yadda yadda via terminal. But how do I simply change some text?
This is specifically what I'm trying to do.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22367371&postcount=25
FYI I'm on 2.3.6 Vahalla black Edition Final
I'm not sure about terminal but couldn't you do this with Rootexplorer? Just go to /system/etc/init.d/ then mount as rw and long click the file 00remount and there's an option for open in text editor then add the line?
Lol I'm sure there's an easier way but this might be an alternative
Thank's aren't asked for but aappreciated
You can do the adb pull from the phone to your PC. If you're on Windows, use WordPad (not Notepad due to the CR+LF needs) then adb push it back. Keep in mind you have to have /system mounted and read/write to do that.
If you're on a Linux box, using Vi, Pico, Emacs, etc should suffice. The adb commands are the same either way.
Did I help or make it even more confusing?
Thanks guys.
I didn't know I could edit files with File Manager (RootExplorer same thing right). That was easy.
But now I'm left with more questions.
After getting to VBE Final everything ran smooth, quad score around 1850. Now after flashing the A.S. v14 the phone seems the same and now has quad of 1200. I know quads don't really mean much but this is weird.
Did you flash AS14 for Valhalla black or the universal one?

You can use vi directly on your phone since it comes preinstalled as a CLI program. It sounds like you prefer the gui approach though.
Also, did you update to the new quadrant? Its scores are different than the older versions.

Universal. I didn't see one specifically for VB. Dang it.

I do prefer to do things directly on the phone. I try to connect to a computer as little as possible.
And I do have the new version for Quadrant Standard (2.0, updated 2/13). I forgot that I read the new version is different.

Antutu gives me 2900.
dsexton702 says he's makin a few guides for a new booster. I'm assuming one might be specifically for valhalla black final. Everything is working fine now, so I'll wait until then to do anymore tweaks.
