Coby 7" 4GB Touch Screen Internet Tablet - General Questions and Answers

my wife is about to order this, I was just wondering if there is a way to root this tab and flash a 2.2 rom on it, its running android 2.1 but I think it would be alot better with adobe flashplayer. and it doesn't come with android market. Is this even worth buying?
Thanks in advance

I was also wondering about this, I was thinking about getting an android tablet. It would be awesome to root it and install custom roms. Hopefully we can get some devs to help us out

yea deff, but theres so many they would have to customize each one for its own rom, unless there is a dev smart enough to create a rom that will work on each one....lol. it would be nice if the galaxy tab was cheap enough we wouldnt have to worry about buying these cheap tabs!!

I've found nothing saying that it is a capacitive touch screen. This makes me believe it's a resisitive screen. In that case, I would have to say "no", it's not worth buying. Using a resistive touch screen is like going back in time.

Capacitive touch screens are what we have on our phones. Resistive touch screens are what they use to have on the old PDAs back in the day, you remember having to use stylus right? Yeah, I wouldn't own a tablet with a resistive touch screen on it.

Bought the MID7015
I picked it up this morning from target for real cheap. The only thing is that after hours of searching I personally cant figure out a way to root it then re-flash the firmware. Other than that, the build quality is nice but it does have a resistive screen. If its possible to root/flash it, then I would totally recommend it to the OP.

the rooting is possible and the flash is comming
not a bad unit for 150, it is certainly not like a droid x or similar but it is bigger
the screen works good for the most part, not as great as my droid x but good
I was able to get most of my apps onto it even without rooting
I need to look for some app that can rotate widgets or even screens automatically every 30 seconds or so that would be nice (I want a clock and weather at the same time and on all the time or for at least 2hrs at a time?)
here is root info and stuff

Thanks

It's already begun. This is a Desire HD. There is plenty already available, including CM7.
what doesnt work on cm7 for it?
Well the thing is, we have to wait n see what bootloader it has, if it the old one or the one that we can downgrade, then we can root, and if we can root, ummm im pretty positive we can flash any rom from the Desire HD rom section.

I already have a root procedure in mind that I think will work. The HBOOT doesn't matter - the exploit in the newer HTC devices was not in the HBOOT. But the radio version does.

Momentarily. The Aria will still need support for CM. I'm it. This device is established and has good support already. We just need to document the procedure to root and get custom recovery on it, which will be a little more complex than the Euro DHD.
regoice, the great and mighty attn1 has come to the inspire, not sure if its a good thing or not as i still am using my aria but.... oh well.
I will have this phone when it comes out on the 13th, looking forward to some modding. I'm coming from an iphone, JB, customized etc, it's no longer any fun. Hope the roms work and the root is easily attainable, I will be back in here when i get the phone....5 days
I will be getting one of these on launch, though I'm not sure if stores are going to have the phone for a more expensive price than what's shown online. I'm coming from an HTC Fuze and this will be a big improvement for me....now I'll have a nice shiny new gadget to sleep with.
I'm hoping that by some stroke of luck I'll get one that allows sideloading but if not, there are ways around that....I don't like my devices being locked in any way. How long does it generally take to root new phones when they're out? I'm new to Android (been a WM person for quite a few years now) so I'm still trying to read as much as I possibly can about the OS and how it works.

Once I owned Android Id never go back to anything else.
The complexity of rooting is dependent on the device.
Some phones are rooted even before launch day, hahaha.

Looking forward to getting the Inspire as well, really thinking that I'll get one at launch. From all indication this should be very similar to DHD. Hopefully the device will be rooted very quick.
I seriously hope we have a root on launch day lol, i mean stock sense is ok but I can only deal w it for so long.

Thanks for the information! Yeah I'm looking forward to this Sunday - I'm probably going to just go in the store when it opens and grab one up then waste the ENTIRE DAY tinkering with it and giggling like a baby with candy.
One thing I didn't see in those articles was the radio firmware for the phone. I've installed and tested... quite a few radios on my Fuze in order to achieve the best possible phone and GPS signal I can get. Is this possible once the phone is rooted?

All signs point to yes, undoubtedly we are going to blow this Inspire 4G up with root goodness, then once we get a custom recovery BAM! custom roms are soon to come after that. Overclocking the phone will yield results similar to Dual Core devices as posted by me in another thread.
The real power of this phone will shine brightly after all the above

As rwon said our Canadian friends have the Inspire / Desire HD now too, the dev ezterry that brought and continues to provide so much to the HTC Dream / G1 community is from there so the talent is definitely of high caliber up north from us.
The MotoDur Atrix to me is seeming to be a bad product already and it hasn't even launched yet, hahaha
So is it safe to go buy the dhd right now? Think there will be root forthe telus desire hd? I can get contract price out of contract today

[APP][Team.Fluxion]XP Mod Launcher (beta) [WinXP Launcher for Android]

Disclaimer: I am not a spokesperson for team.fluxion nor do I have any affiliation to them whatsoever. The app stated in this post is simply a public service announcement to those that enjoy/want the Windows PC experience on their Android powered device. All rights of this app goes to its respective owners.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Have you ever wanted to get a PC quality experience on your Android powered device, then look no further! Windows XP is now on Android, well sort of. Thanks to the people in team.fluxion, who is no stranger to the development scene and has been pumping out applications since the good old windows mobile PPC days (Windows Mobile 5/6.x for the youngins reading this), as well as Windows desktop applications, we can now get a taste of Windows XP on our device, and for FREE . To save time, I will just use the description from their official Google Play page:
A legendary application for Windows Mobile Pocket PCs is back for Android as a launcher that imitates the look and feel of Microsoft Windows XP right on your Android device. It lets you explore your file system and open different file formats using default programs as assigned in your device. It also provides the common file system operations like copy, cut, paste and delete.
Short sweet and simple, right . This app is brand new (like first release new, hence the "beta" tag it's sporting) but it is amazing, and is very functional and fun for a beta release. I am running this on both my Evo 3D (qHD [540x960 resolution] screen, a bit small, but for those who are android tech savvy with some system partitions root permissions, just modify your build prop on the "ro.sf.lcd_density" line and add 40 to whatever your number is, or experiment with it different numbers. I think there's an app on the market for LCD density modification, too) and my Velocity Micro t408 cruz (its an 8 inch tablet, so no modification is really needed. I set my LCD density to 140 to make the status bar smaller though and it gives you a bit more screen real estate). Without further ado, here is the download link, completely free!
Download it here (Play Store Link) XP Mod Launcher
Oh and P.S. - They have a Windows XP boot animation that's cool too, check it out (surf their website, too) WinXP Boot Animation Android
I'm actually quite impressed. It looks and feels like the real thing.
It's missing the authentic crash every 20 minutes though.
Cheers for the share.

does this need a rooted phone?
Sorry for the ignorant question - but up til now with ICS being finaly an "up-to-par" (by my standards) and there actualy being hardware good enough to run it really nicely, ive always hated using android, hated the android experience completely, but now im thinking of getting my first android phone (galaxy s3) in a month or so and am wondering if i can use this kind of thing on it without rooting... im hoping not, thats the one thing i really waant out of android that i cant get on my iphone or windows phone, the really crazy apps like this without needing a jailbreak or a custom rom/interim unlock, those things make the phones very unstable in my experience and prefer to keep them stock
Wow. It's fun using a whole new type of launcher every once in a while.
Though there have been apps that I can't open but I guess it's to be expected since the launcher is still in beta stage.

I had the chance to use one for a week and in my experience it was fast as hell. Made my kindle fire look like a g1 lol. The only problem I had with it was the screen quality, which to me was pretty poor but for 200$ it shouldn't be expected to have top notch everything. Same thing with my Kindle. Looking to get the transformer prime with the HD screen.
Yes, I've read that the screen quality is not that great. But I do like the specs of it and I'm sure its worth it. Was the one you used rooted?
The screen quality is great... if you have the brightness set high enough. I still prefer the SGS4G's Super AMOLED screen.
The Nexus 7 is an incredible device though. It's absolutely the perfect size and weight for a tablet, and when paired with a keyboard and mouse, makes a very viable replacement for a laptop. Plus, it's ridiculously easy to root and flash ROMs on.
Nice, Thats sort of what i want to do with it because I dont want to carry my laptop everywhere i go. Ahh i can't wait to get my hands on mine. First thing I'm going to do is root it!

No it was my cousins so I didn't want to root it. The screen was better at high brightness like stated above but I still found it lacking. But it handled everything I could throw at it without slowing down and while I was on Netflix it was good enough to catch up on my burn notice for the price you can't do any better. You'll love it, trust me
Ohh alright, thanks for the input guys. Sounds like I made a good investment.
I got one for my wife and she loves it. I've played with it a little and it is fast as hell. The screen is fine, especially with the brightness cranked up. It is bright enough that my wife has to dial it down when she is reading books on it. It is the perfect size and super portable. Build quality is very nice. I'm getting one for myself at Christmas.

Goodbye Fellow Friends!

Well...
Unfortunately today as i was sending a text message to a friend using the new 4.2 keyboard with flow, a girl came running down the hallway and managed to knock my phone out my hand with her book bag...the end result was not pretty. The phone fell about 5 feet straight face down unto the screen. My otterbox commuter did very little to shelter the phone...and the screen has cracked pretty much everywhere on the right side. The digitizer is completely fine, but the glass is terrible. So...instead of fixing it, or waiting six months for my upgrade eligibility to get a new iPhone 5, (i have an iPad and a MBP, so it would be logical to connect all three, to keep me more organized in school), i called AT&T and they have let me get a new SGSIII for the regular price with an early upgrade...so as Jim did, i seized the opportunity. Just wanted to say thanks to all the great developers we have here, its been a great pleasure, and they've worked their asses off to do some pretty amazing things with this phone. Ill still be around checking stuff out, and if anyone wants anything tested, im willing to use my MB865 AT&T as a guinea pig. My S3 wont be here till Friday or Monday, so after that if any of the developers want anything tested, im willing to run it.
Thanks for everything guys!

How do you guys like the One M8 so far?

Im coming off of contract soon, and thinking about getting the HTC M8. I was wondering how you guys feel about it after owing it for sometime, although its still pretty new? Im coming from a Verizon Moto X dev. Edition, how much of a shock ( if any ) will I be in with the HTC m8?
Thanks.
p.s. Im thinking about this or the HTC one MAX... I think that is a different device though.
I love it so far... Had the Moto x dev edition not too long ago as well, but moved back to my Note 2 because I missed the larger screen and external SD card.
Switched to the M8 because of a common technical issue with the Note 2 that I didn't want to put up with anymore. I already know that I didn't make a mistake. This thing is blazing fast and smooth as silk.
Needs full root, though. I need to use my extsd!

I came from the nexus 5, basically just wanted something different. Love the build quality. Phone is amazingly fast stock. Sense is better than it used to be, still put the GPL launcher on it though. Screen is great, wish it was bigger for the size of the phone, bezels are way to big. Camera is decent but not that great. Battery seems good, can easily get through a day with somewhat heavy use.
Any other specific questions just ask.
I find it kind of funny that they release a phone with KitKat and an external SD probably knowing that there was an incompatibility and wouldn't function 100% properly. I have to now install root, xposed, and a module just for R/W access to my ExtSD. Also, with Xposed sometimes have to hard reboot and re-enable Xposed since it makes WiFi wonky.
There is no sOff on this phone?

The top and bottom bezels are maybe a little large (but the speakers are housed under them, so it's understandable), but the side bezels are pretty small. In fact, without a case, they're maybe TOO small. When I hold it one-handed and try to reach for something with my thumb, the skin of my hand frequently hits something on the right-side of the screen accidentally.

Not yet, but it's being worked on. We're hoping it'll happen soon, but there are no guarantees. Personally, I would be happy at this point with just being able to flash custom ROM's.
Anndd Im guessing you cant do that either then? ( no custom roms? )

No roms yet. I'm sure it's coming though. I am a flashoholic but I am entirely content with stock. Coming from romified note 2

Bump one last time. Im going to Verizon to swap out here soon within the next week. Thanks guys!!
This is just a super fantastic phone. I'd recommend it to anyone that's in the market for a new phone. And now the we have ViperOne...it just puts it over the top. :good:
I love this phone. I prefer it OVER my wifes S5.
My ONLY regret on about getting this phone..... is me renewing my contract and getting rid of the Grandfathered Unlimited that I loved.
I am in love with the phone it's truly amazing how htc made it.
