Hi all. Just finished ordering this tablet that is currently running cupcake. Would love to root it and install a custom ROM. Any info on how I can achieve this?
Thanks in advance
offtopic... does the apad run any good? is it smooth?
Why is it off topic. It is a tablet that runs android. Do not have it yet so can't comment on how good or bad it runs.
i was asking an off topic question (i.e. not related to your question). guess i phrased my sentence wrongly. do post here on how well this device seems to perform.
I will. Thanks for your intrest.
You should of waited for the Notion's ADAM
I only paid $100.00 US for my tablet. This one is considerably more.

hey could you pm me the site where you purchased it from?
could you update your main post with the specs that you ordered from? Apparently there are Apad clones with crappy processors instead of the rockchip processors
Dealextreme has it for cheap
dealextreme is the crap version. the proper apad is the one with rockchip in it. and i found out that the cheapest apad with rockchip is ~150usd
i have one of those too.
with the rockchip which actually is not to bad of a processor. nowhere near the A4 but ok to work with.
it's an ARM derivative and consists of a cpu and dsp(gpu).
i would also like to know if anybody has played with it yet.
i followed the android instructions of building a development envirnment and have the tablet actually show up in eclipse but where to go from here?
sorry for threadjacking a bit
i would first of all like to be able to upgrade android. if possible 2.2 or at least to 1.6.
the device has the upgrade locked.
the are also language option conflicts were suggestive text and some keyboard keys still show up in (i guess) Chinese.
It'll most likely be impossible to upgrade the apad to 2.1/2.2 as rockchip dsp isn't actually a gpu, its a video processor for videos only.
on another note i have decided to pass up on the apad as it doesn't seem that "future-proof" most likely will get this http://www.wiipad.us/product.php?id_product=11 unless better options come out in the next 1 month or so
does android 2.x require a specialized dedicated gpu?
the dsp is essentially a gpu, it is capable of playing 720p video.
it should be plenty for android 2.x to get around
so i can move files from the device to the pc.
i copied the data and system folder.
what to do now?

The wiipad seems to be a very nice tablet. But till they receive a proper review, for the money, I'll stick to my Apad.

Yeah but it decodes videos only, a gpu actually pumps out the graphics which is an intergral part of 2.1 onwards (also in the rockchip's specs i saw somewhere this chip does not support 2.1) The wiipad neno has a cortex a8 core which is similar to the ipad's processor so it is running on 2.1.

ive been digging around at Apads for weeks.. and i havent really found one i was impressed with.. i thought about going with just something to play with a lil bit and get the EKEN m001 or w.e modle it is.. but i just couldnt get it at a price id be willing to shell out and be ok with.. but this wiipad.. with android 2.1 deff has my attention especially wit a 1ghz processor.. and with it having a 16gig nand flash at a price of 267.19 i will shell out the money.. cuz thats exactly what i want.. but i to will wait for more reviews on the product.. but please post what you think about the one you orderd OP cuz i am intrested in that one as well.. and can you PM me the site you got it from for 100$?? please and thank you.. and im very happy to see these Apads (android tablets) showing up in the forum!! i cant wait for a few devs to jump on board imagine the roms and custom stuff i feel like a kid ina candy store already
Greetings,
I just received the brand new VPAD7 and I know that the HW Specs are different, I'm curious how much work it would take to port one of these G-Tablet ROMs to the VPad? Viewsonic seems to have locked this down so tight I can't even use better keyboard on it... Not Cool.
Anyway I've never developed a ROM but if someone want's to teach/try, I'll be the guinea pig with mine.

We can only hope they did.
Nothing... The VPAD7 uses a ARM ARM11 600 MHz..... unfortunately your severely limited with that Processor/chipset.... All the work in this forum is for Tegra 2 based processors... the VPAD7 is more like the deformed step sister twice removed...
If you can return it would recommend it - you are just about at the tail end of that machine based on the processor/chipset (not even a 1ghz which is need for many games at least) and get a Galaxy Tab if you need 3G or just wait for the new Galaxy Tab.. Its processor is significantly faster..
If you want a Tegra 2 based 7inch with 3G your going to have to wait.. if dont care about 3G then go with the eLocity A7 (tegra 2 based) BUT its not multitouch so no gaming for you...
There are no good options at this point for 7".... I know.. I have been looking and salivating at this point for a good unit that doesn't sacrifice in the major areas.

Moved to general
The vpad7 is totally unrelated to the gtablet. It is actually closer to the iPhone 4 than anything else - imagine a 7" iPhone 4 running android and you will get the picture.
It is quite nice to play with - almost unadulterated AOSP 2.2.1, responsive despite the slower processor, similar screen density to the gtablet (with better viewing angles - but not anywhere close to IPS or AMOLED, and limited 800*480 resolution).
Installs and plays AB as a direct download from the Market. (Full Market and Gapps as standard.)
Easy to Root - has been available in Europe since November. (ROMs available at MODACO.)
It IS a phone - full telephone capabilities with gsm and 3G available on AT&T (EDGE on T-Mobile).
All in all, this is a phone with a 7" screen: much more usable than my 4" regular phone, but not an iPad/Gtablet alternative...

I knew what I was getting when I bought it. I'm using it mostly for work and for that it's fabulous. For 3G I just Hot Spot it to my phone when needed. It actually maintains a better signal than my T-Mobile phone, works great as a HANDS Free phone as well. I was really looking for a way to get it onto the 3G Network, currently it will only do Edge. Angry Birds runs fine as long as its the ONLY thing running. But that and Solitaire are the only games I have on it. Continually moving the SIM Card is a pain.
I wonder if the ro fingerprint could be pulled from it to gain a true full market on the Gtab. Also wondering if the Vending/Market APK would provide a market on the Gtab that would display properly (not cutting off the stars)? Any ideas from someone a bit smarter than me in all this or would it not work because of the 600 mhz vs tegra 2 difference?
yes it is possible,

Of course it is But I would imagine such an app would require faster quad cores, like the ones coming out. The exynos may be able to handle this but not very well. Many pc's with quads struggle with ps2 games, so I wanna see how a phone handles..

libSDL is not an issue; porting the x86 code for micro/dynarec/int to ARM is the real issue.
i would love to see this happen. especially since they finally made the ps3 controller app. and it worjs wonderful... ps2 on a phone would make me upgrade regardless of the price. and i usually get my phones for dirt cheap. like my current dx was $50 i just passed up a chance to buy a dx2 from a friend who said he didnt like it for $75

Considering how much is required to emulate PS2 games even on the computer, I don't see this happening any time soon.

The PCSX2 on the PC is still not yet stable as some high ended hardware is also not compatible or unable to support the PS2 games. Unless it receives a lot of support from a lot of developers, it will takes a long time.

how about we quit naysaying and someone compile the bloody thing or post an apk so we can start testing, ive had pcsx2 running on an old acer laptop i overclocked for ages so im pretty sure my samz galaxy s2 or asus transformer could cope as they are both rooted and overclocked. No one expects 60fps or hell even 30 but I'd be psyched just to see proof of concept before i buy a kal el core tablet and give the transformer to my wife
I agree can someone please try to do this and see what happens

Nothing yet, apparently people are having issues compiling the code. Last update I saw was a month ago. Now I've got my Galaxy S3 I really want this to happen more than ever, MHL out and Bluetooth Ps3 controller = God of War in your pocket!
Any devs here up for the challenge? Wouldn't mind starting a bounty for this as I'm sure plenty of us would love it and happily pay for the chance even if it was just a proof of concept similar to the dreamers emu I've seen floating around.

This thread is the sad truth about xda-developers comunity these days... About the topic, even some powerfull x86 computer has issues (lag, texture problems and more), do you imagine how will this run on a mobile processor?
Cores don't translate to power, only to multi-threading, mobile processors are not the same processors you use on PC, on the technology we have today, this is not doable.
(and i can't find it possible, that people just say somethings like "someone just compile it and give us the apk"...people like these have no idea of what programming is...this is not organics)
I left this in the Development forum in the hope that there would be some actual development work on this project. Since that's not the case I'm now moving it to the General forum.
Thread moved.
It is very possible

It pretty much could be done there was a Dreamcast emulator that was being worked on for android it had crazy taxi and a few other games running so the possibility of a phone to play PS2 Games should be doable since my old laptop could play most PS2 games perfectly but struggled to play some Dreamcast games if this was done it would be amazing although saying this EPSXE PS1 emulator is on Google playstore maybe they might try making a PS2 emulator but games/roms will take up loads of memory
Finally released the code for Ice Cream Sandwich!
The source code for Ice Cream Sandwich has finally been released, and already ahead of its predecessor, this Honeycomb. This Android 4.0 will operate as barriers accounted for 3.0 ROMs for developers and manufacturers of different products. Welcome to a new era.
In fact, the version released and available for download is 4.0.1, so that it is new face of which we have seen in some Galaxy Nexus surely debuggers or solution to a silly bug.
Currently this version is only available as a ready-made settings included, and settings for other devices will still have to wait. Needless to say, if you know what we talked about then is best to wait until they are released versions "for all", this is for high skills and developers.
It is a version almost embryonic but complete, for some technical problems they have had with your server, but also functional. You only have to download it (link is below) and in the source tree will have to find "full_maguro" that you can use to create a system image for Galaxy Nexus.
Just follow the instructions you will have once the download page (again, at the end of post), and for this use the following GIT:
repo init-u-b android-https://android.googlesource.com/platform/manifest 4.0.1_r1
We sure will be a long download and have patience, do not synchronize until we are sure it is fully completed or will have an unusable version.
This release includes all updates Android tree, including all of Honeycomb (care tablets manufacturers or rosemary), but insist that "everyone wants to focus on Ice Cream Sandwich" (words).
This discovery has published Jean-Baptiste Queru, Android Software Engineer in the Building Android group of AOSP. For questions, go to the source that we put down at all and do not hesitate to ask. Ice Cream Sandwich!
CM9, this is the truth
man, i can't wait to get my hands on ics!
We have a great community of developers working on this phone, it just hope it will last at least for another year. I've previously had a Samsung Galaxy Spica with great support from Samdroid but after some time they had some problems and stopped development till some while ago when tom3q started releasing GB for it (cm7). I've moved to LG p500 with also great support from XDA, but also the progress is kinda slow now, i have motorola defy (well not now, it's been a year) and i just love what progress is being made. I just hope it will last most than the two other devices mentioned.
I think after we have fully working ICS (if we encounter no major problems with the kernel <or maybe we'll have an unlocked bootloader to play with---fingers crossed>) maybe then the development can stop
I know this is a lot to ask the developers, since everyone moves to dual-core devices (and quad core soon)...but please stay with us on this one. You already have our deepest respect but we still need you guys

Phone with Intel inside... it could be intresting... may be phone will be much faster than in ARM processor, but i don't think it will be saves more battery than ARM... we will see
San Diego very powerful
intel phones are gonna wipe the floor with most smartphones these days. intel FTW
I vote we make a San Diego/Intel forum! Honestly, when next year's dual core 22 nm Atom-based CPU's come out, Intel will be either just as efficient/fast as ARM or even better! Interesting time to be a geek
Intel indeed will emerge as the winner but they need to put there resources in the field...which I believe that will be the case as they are now serious about smartphone and tablets....they have to work towards power efficiency as speed is where they are miles ahead...
i read in article , intel say that smartphone not require multiplecore , so they only use the intel atom 1.6ghz in lenovo , its true?
whether it can beat samsung sIII with multicore?
sorry for language.
atom? i don't trust in that ****
