Nook color vs Gtab - G Tablet General

I've had a nook color for about a week now and I recently found out about the Gtab. Do you think I should return the nook an pickup a Gtab instead? I mostly use my nook to read comicbooks and browse the web. What I love most about it is the screen. It's simply beautiful. Would the trade off for a larger but inferior screen, flash, and tegra be worth it?

The nook color is an e-reader, and the gtab is a tablet. I also got a nook (for about 24 hours) as I was examining potential tablets to get someone for christmas and was not impressed. It does e books extremely well, but the nook ui didn't offer the customization or smooth web browsing I wanted. Understand the the gtab NEEDS to have custom roms loaded to make it usful, but it offers me the android experience I wanted.
But if you just use it to read comic books, the nook excels at that. Besides it will get flash next year.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App

Researching the Nook is what got me looking at tablets with Android on them in the first place. Although nice, the Nook really is a much more limited device. And the for the price, too much for what it offers (same as the Kindle imo).
After going with the TnT Lite ROM put together by Roebeet, my G does 98% of everything I need, and I'm sure the rest of the wrinkles can be ironed out over time. So I guess what I am trying to say is if you don't mind following the threads here and doing a little leg work, go with the ViewSonic G.

I picked one up at Sears today. The first thing I did was load up clockworksmod and ran a full backup. I've tried zPad and TnT Lite so far and I think i'll stick with TnT Lite for now. I'm impressed with the browser and how well flash works on the tablet.
The biggest drawback for me is definitely the screen. I can't help but compare the screen to my nook color. I can view my nook color from any angle and the picture quality is still great, benefits of an IPS screen I guess. While there is really only one way to hold the gTab to get a good view of the screen, which is in landscape mode and directly in front of you. Portrait mode or any viewing from the side just makes the display look washed out.
I'm going to give it a full week before I decide if I want to keep it or not. The software bugs don't bother me much since I know many of the kinks will be worked out by the great mods at XDA but don't know if I can live with the screen.

A 7 inch device, imo, is too small for comics. I heard that the Nook screen is very nice, but you'd really want a 10 inch device. I primarily bought my GTab as a comics reader.
Here's a screen grab of ACV. Notice that the top / bottom are chopped off a little, but it's still very readable versus a 7 incher. I know this because I used to own a 7 inch Pandigital Novel:

The contrast is a big dark in portrait mode and you might have to tilt it slightly to correct. But I think it's fine for comics - ACV is the primary app I use on my Gtab.
EDIT: Didn't read all the posts first - you already know this. I think it's time for bed.....

Thx, i'll try out AVC later tonight. I tried loading perfect viewer earlier today but it ended up crashing. Too bad cuz I like its controls for scrolling through comic books.
The 7 inch screen is definitely too small to read comics in portrait mode but it does pretty well in landscape. The nook color doesn't support cbr/cbz files and converting them to ePub isn't an option since it messes up the pictures. I found that making a pdf file out of the images is the best solution.

I like my G Tab for a lot of things but if your primary use is as an e reader the Nook Color is better by design. The Nook Color is slower and less capable but its got the all important nice screen. So, if you want a multipurpose device that has some fun hacking options and beastly potential then the GTab is it, if you want what is primarily a color ereader the Nook Color is superior.

I'm still debating picking up a Nook Color IF it gets some attention(doesn't need alot as it will be a 2ndary device for me for reading in poorly lit conditions), IF I can justify the cost.
Unlike alot fo you guys, seemingly, I haven't read comics since I was a little kid, but do read quite a bit of fiction for which 7" (and smaller) work perfectly plus the smaller form factor is just plain and simply more portable, i.e. 7" is practically pocketable and anything smaller is, plus I can one hand handle 7" and smaller while that just ain't gonna happen with 10+" ...

I would have to agree, what I like about the nook color is it's smaller form factor. It's far more portable than a 10 inch tablet. At first I was leaving my nook at home but now I'm bringing it everywhere with me. With free wifi just about everywhere or the option to tether off my phone, it's pretty easy to use my nook for both reading and web browsing.
I think the novelty of browsing the web on a smartphone has finally rubbed off. Using a larger screen just makes the experience so much more enjoyable. In another years time, I can see myself deciding between buying a new smartphone or a new 7 inch tablet.

Yep, getting used to the Gtablet and then using my Incredible for similar functions is a big sight adjustment!
I regret returning my Gtablet, but was within a few days of the return window. May need to take a trip to Sears...... Holiday 60 day window if needed
I also backed my internal space up, so just have to copy it over, install Tnt Lite 2.0, run Titanium, market fix and BAM!! Back in business
Added: Whatever the case, OEM needs to at least fix the bluetooth issues, keyboard options and accelerometer.

I just returned my G-tab and got a 16gb wifi Ipad.

I ended up with both the tab and the Nook Color for a few days. The difference is a LOT more then I expected.
The Nook Color is nice but like everyone else has said it pails in comparson to the functionality of the Galaxy Tab.
Having said that.....xda works wonders and I`m betting the nook color will have a lot more success and be really neat once the guys get er all modded up.
If your interested in a little comparioson Vid....I youtubed one yesterday.

[Q] Which Tablet do i get for $200 or less?

Soo Black friday coming up and it looks like there are going to be several deals on tablets out there.
Anyone have any suggestions on which one to get?
I'm hoping to use it for browsing around the house, watching movies on vacation, and various other uses(hoping there's a vnc client out there so i can use it to vnc into my HTPC.), also hoping for something w/marketplace access
I don't need one w/ celluar i have enough devices i can get internet from when i'm out and about.
Here's what i've seen so far
Kmart - Sylvania 7.1" comes w/2.1 Wi-Fi - $139.99
Toys R US - Sylcania 7.1" comes w/2.1 Wi-FI - $139.99
Hastings - Sylvania 7" WiFi Tablet w/ Android O/S 1GHz ARM 11 Processor 256MB RAM 2GB Hard Drive - $149.99
They all look to be the same tablet although each add words the device differently. Best buy has a couple of E-reader devices listed however i'm not sure if any of those could be rooted and flashed.(nook, cruz e-reader)
I've never rooted an android phone but am technically capable of doing so.
If this question has been asked and answered then please forgive my failure of using a search engine in an attempt to find an answer. Any and all helpful input is greatly appreciated.
it's 200, but euros:

me too
I've been looking at those too. I think they are all the same model. The Sylavania 7" has a 1ghz processor, 256/512 memory, TFT Resistive screen, 480x800
I've been doing a lot of research and it seems like a winner for a cheap tablet. It lacks Android Market but you can manually install APK's (these are the install files) from the SD Card. Plus there are alternative markets.
The only bad thing I see is the Resistive screen. I guess it isn't a kill joy but lots of android games use multitouch.
I'm actually wanting to buy it for my 4 year old son. He's showing a huge interest in my Nexus One and loves games like Angry Birds and stupid Basketball games and such. I figured it would serve as a decent web browser from the couch.
Supposedly the USB ports don't work out of the box, and the headphone jack is only mono. There are reports that an upcoming software update is supposed to fix them.
I'm new to the tablets, but supposedly the Sylvania is faster and more responsive then other 800mhz android tablets. So I am in the same boat. The Sylvania is around $119-139 which seems to fit the bill for my 4 year old. Anything else that compares that is rootable and upgradable from a rom standpoint.
All of these are resistive touch screen. I wouldn't pay $5.00 for a resistive touch screen on any device. So they have decent CPUs and ram, they run flash and can/will run Froyo? If they have a resistive touch screen, it's pretty much pointless. It's like using a ball mouse with my gaming PC, it just doesn't make sense to me. Just my opinion, nothing more or less.
Side note, for about $75-$100 more you could get a nice capactive touch screen tablet with even more features. Archos 70, herotab and a few others.
wth my post is gone.
Take 2:
Basically if I was buying one for myself, yea sure I would get a Capacitive touch. Lots of Android features requires it. But I'm more intested in the price point of $139. I'm looking for an Android tablet that will run games like Angry Birds and stupid basketball games for my 4 year old.
When he's not using it I might use it for couch surfing or something... but basically it is a toy for my child.
I'm not sure what the OP's primary uses are, but I'm looking for a cheap Android Tablet that has at least 2.1 on it and decent memory specs. I've been doing a lot of research tonight and I think the Sylvania is a winner. Lots of people are saying the run faster then most of the low dollar tablets out there.
One major flaw is the battery life is 3 hours. For me it isn't a problem as no one in my house should be on it for 3 hours. I just want to be able to throw a few silly games on it to keep my kid entertained and off my Nexus One.
[EDIT]
I just saw a post for the Maylong M-150 Tablet and it looks promising

For the kids, yeah it's a great price and product. I would much rather my kid have a tablet in his/her hands than a game controller. At least there is more of a chance they might actually learn something.
I ended up getting the sylvania and i am loving it. I have market working and Over on xda someone noticed a process called cell stand by was running and eating up the battery. Once i followed their lead and unistalled some apps they said to i am getting much better battery life on my sylvania. I am going on 3 hours of mixed use/standy and till have 61% battery remaining.

I ended up getting the HeroTab X5A from Merimobiles.com for $149.
800mhz
7" Resistive Touch w/ Multitouch
G-Sensor
Capacitive touch controls on the side
Glass top, metal surround
Android 2.1 w/ Market
Looks like it runs great.
http://www.merimobiles.com/Herotab_X5A_Multitouch_Gsensor_800Mhz_Android_2_1_p/meri0524.htm
Yea I've been playing with it. I loaded up Angry Birds and a few games he likes to test before putting it back in the box.
Yes it does have multitouch. I loaded Launcher Pro and lots of little apps. Runs great. The only issue is the only Widget available is Google Search. Supposedly the latest Firmware update fixes it but I had already wrapped it up for Christmas.

[Q] Keep TF or wait for Galaxy Tab?

With all the issues that seem to be plaguing the TF, would it be advantageous to wait for the Galaxy Tab 10.1? I was under the impression it would have a TW overlay, but an article I read today said it is a stock Android Experience Device.
Without factoring in the Dock, should I wait for the Tab?
Looking at google i/o special edition there was no sd slot or hdmi port on the tablet. I havent found any site that show it will come with the either. So, you are going to spend more for a tablet where you cant expand the space. Samsung will have issues too, minor or major we just dont know yet. Samsung record of release updates are not great. Samsung wil also have terga 2 like the TF. Pls screen vs ips screen, wow 10% brighter then ips. Imho, Tab 10.1 will be a failure.

I'm almost 100% certain that the GT2 will have the samsung UI, I can't remember the name now.
What I'm 100% certain is that the google IO Samsung tabs were only standard android HC.

Touchwizz is actually becoming good. At least better than stock android. Look at the mini app tray and additional widgets (which you are free to remove and use stock ones instead anyway).

Same price as iPad 2 if I remember correctly.
$499 16gb, $599 32gb.
Yeah everything is just a rumor still but it may very well have no SD card support and Samsung has been calling it touchwiz ux. I had my heart set in a galaxy tab but if they are not going to have SD card it HDMI or USB support i may just get a tansformer

Yeah, it looks pretty nice but I must have a microsd slot and I really like mini hdmi. (Hooked it up last night to a HDTV and it looks really good!)
I can't believe I read that this is actually THINNER than the iPad 2. The iPad 2 is pretty dang thin.
The weight and thin factors had me very intrigued at first. Then I heard it would have Touchwiz which I hated on my phone when it was stock, so that pretty much turned me off from it. Then yesterday, I read somewhere it wasn't going to have TW. I see now that was just the Google IO version.
Thanks for the answers and I guess I will be sticking with the TF. I do like the fact that I can expand the storage capacity as well.
No matter what, TouchWiz should have the option to be disabled, that is a must for an Android device.
There should be some way of expanding/connecting the device to other devices, so there will be at least USB (possibly mini) or SD card slot (probably micro SD). But the problem with our guesses is that the design might still be fluid. Look at the TF, according to the reviews as of 1 month before I got mine, there were various buttons, and it was still running Froyo or something.

I will get the galaxy 10.1 for sure. If I like it I will keep it, else it goes back or resold depending on the market. Same goes for every gadget I buy. One of the perks of shopping at bestbuy, use for 45 days then return for full refund.
I will also be getting the htc flyer whenever that gets released but most likely will use it for a week and give it back.
I'm also considering getting it as well. I like the TF, blows the Xoom away, but the thinness of the GT is really appealing. I also have an iPad 2 and love the way it feels in your hand, the thinness really makes a big difference. The TF feels slightly more "clunky" than the iPad 2, but not as bad as the Xoom.
Samsung does make nice screens, I'm sure the GT's will look good. I have some slight backlight bleed on my TF and it's starting to drive me nuts.
I was looking at the images on Samsung's website GT section, and the UI looks pretty much stock HC to me, perhaps they're using a stripped down version of TouchWiz on this (I hope). Also, on the image of the side view, it does appear to have a MicroSD slot there, but not sure, could be for the sim card?

Don't over analyze and worry about if I wait will I get something better. In six months all of these devices will be replaced with something better. It is the nature of the business. Do you do that to show off that you have the latest gadgets? Sure, technology changes quickly but that's not the reason for the return policy. I'm sure BB will figure it out soon.

Asus Eee Pad Transformer weight vs Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1

I asked this question before BUT Samsung just released their keyboard

Now, I develop websites for a living, so for me it's important to show my client his webpage and generate that "wow" factor in them
So even though it sounds superficial, I'm all about looks
With the keyboard, this baby looks GREAT (I saw it today at the Verizon store)
Anyway, with both tables having nice keyboards, my question is
if I buy the 32GB Verizon of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, and I return the Asus Eee Pad transformer, what will I miss from the Transformer?
I guess I will miss the extra battery that comes from the keyboard
Today is THE LAST day I can return my Asus Eee Pad and put some extra cash and buy the Samsung Galaxy Tab
Benefits I see is
1) looks (again, for me that means clients will be happy with the display f their site)
2) lighter
3) smaller
4) better screen colors
Has anybody switched to the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 from the Asus Eee Pad Transformer
If so, why? How's the experience so far?
Have you bothered researching the Tab dock? From what I've seen, it's buggy and not great. It doesn't fold, as I understand it, so it's two separate pieces unless docked. And, personally, I think it looks stupid. It's wider than the Tab itself, it's white against the Tab's black, and it lacks a trackpad (not necessary for a touchscreen, but it has convenience). And you'll be dropping another $100 just to switch to the Tab of the same capacity, assuming you have a 32gb TF. Plus you need to buy the dock. And as it has no battery, it's actually going to decrease your battery life to use it by drawing power from the Tab. In your own terms, if a website looks great to the buyer but doesn't work right, is that better or worse than a (still great looking) website of a different design that does everything right? And has twice the battery life? Websites run on batteries these days, right?
I say stay with Asus.
Edit: Good review here: androidpolice.com/2011/08/04/samsung-galaxy-tab-10-1-keyboard-dock-review-video/. Looks like you'll also miss out on expanded connectivity, and you'll be switching your input method every time you undock if you don't normally use the stock soft keyboard.
Man, the Galaxy Tab keyboard sucks on all fronts! They've got advertising dollars, but they should put some quality behind them or they risk doing the Apple thing and just end up selling a logo. Which they don't even have.
Well the keyboard DOES has an option to connect a Samsung USB extension
So really the only thing we would be missing is the battery
Let's say the website works great (good programming)
I just feel I can get a extra hundred here and there, and everything helps
If the device looks awesome, man I think it will make me a few more sales here and there
Even if the keyboard is not as great, I think the lightness of the new tablet will bring a new benefit
I have the Asus Eee Pad and man I LOVE it, however I don't feel it's a tablet, because it's too heavy, so I will never read an ebook for example
There should be a Keyboard done by Asus that works with Samsung
So, what you're saying is, you already decided and just wanted to let everybody know that you were switching?
If you really want a keyboard, you could get a Bluetooth keyboard. Either way, I think it will be awkward to be lugging two pieces around and assembling them every time you want to use them. You can connect a Samsung extension to the tablet itself (it's the same connector). Plus the bugs reported by others, the resetting of the input preferences . . . . In the end, everything you're touting as being better is just personal preference anyway. If it's better for you then that's great.
If form is more important than function to you, get the Tab, or an iPad. It's your money.
You can't really ask us what you'll miss from the TF. You have to ask yourself that. Is battery life important to you? How bout a native keyboard dock that is actually efficient?
They're both great devices, but I really think the 10.1 is geared more towards fun, media, and a average user. The Transformer is also geared towards fun as well as business and a average/professional user.
If I was showing a client something, I think the Transformer would make a better impression just because of it's look alone, it looks professional..the 10.1 has more of a playful look to me.
A couple of thoughts for the OP:
If it's about showing sites to clients, is the keyboard going to really be used ? Or are you looking for it to operate as a stand? Or just as a port for a mouse?
If you're developing mobile/tablet-friendly websites (which makes a lot of sense these days), then I'd say let them hold the tablet and experience the site that way.
IMO, one particular tablet isn't going to be responsible for a dramatic increase in sales over any other tablet. What you're really after is what the setup says about you and how seeing it all together makes them, and more importantly, you feel.
I'm biased, but to me an Android tablet would say to a customer that you're pretty tech savvy and wanted to go against the iPad flow. While the Gtab arguably looks more stylish, you could make an argument that the TF is a more considered purchase.
At the end of the day, it's all about how you choose to spin it.
And, echoing one of the previous posters, if you've already decided to switch and want to make the switch, do it. That setup obviously makes you feel better -- that will create more sales than any device that you happen to trot out.
Best of luck!
I want to say I changed the Asus Eee Pad for the Galaxy Tab 10.1
Couldn't be happier about my choice
If the Asus Eee Pad would weight the same as the Galaxy Tab, it would be perfect
but with that weight even though it's well built, it's just too heavy to hold it and read an eBook for example
I'm trying to decide between these two tabs right now,
I originally dismissed the asus because it was older, we know the problems are weight (not the thickness as i nearly snapped my friends ipad)
but the asus is uglier, sharper and its screen doesnt look as nice (could really do with a goldilocks point between hyper saturation and the current screen)
oh and the prime, but that is out of my price range anyway

There are still more people using the gtab than I realized

I've been tracking of all the downloads off of my viewsonic g tablet for dummies site. The number of people who have been downloading stuff really surprises me. It looks like this puppy isn't going away any time soon.
I still use mine daily. I still haven't found a compelling reason to upgrade.

Agreed. I bought a HTV EVO View off of one of the sales on 1saleaday (about $200) because the stylus it uses is significantly better than the regular capacitive stylus. It's my new 'work' tablet, but the Gtablet is still my daily game tablet, Netflix tablet, and other junk tablet. Plus, the ICS development keeps getting better and better...
Other than the screens poor viewing angles, Viewsonic gave us a really nice piece of hardware. Thanks to Flashback and Team DRH this nice hardware can actually do what it's capable of, rather than the crappy TNT thing Viewsonic had on it.
With the exception that the tapntap software, the Gtablet is a beast waiting to get loose. Granted that its getting a little long in the tooth, but with the new roms it just gets better and better.
I've continued to use my lightly since I've gotten it a year or so back. I mainly wanted it to play videos for the kids in the car. I played around with various ROMs, tried Honeycomb but generally wasn't all that impressed and just recently went back to Froyo. Froyo worked pretty well and the UI downgrade from Honeycomb wasn't that big of a deal. But recently I've installed DRH's ICS ROM and it looks pretty darn good, so far it seems the best of both Froyo and Honeycomb, but really better than both. However, that's just an initial impression. Really good stuff that looks to extend the life of the hardware!
mine was out of commission for about 6 months. power connector wasn't working. been really busy, but the wife strong armed me into fixing it. it is working now and it has been a really good tablet. it is my first and only tablet, but i have been satisfied and I really enjoy the versatility. it is a lot of fun to swap out OS and customize. even with the power connector problem, i enjoyed breaking it down and doing some hardware repair.
I use the For Dummies site a lot, it's a great resource for changing ROMs, bootloaders, etc. Haven't bricked once.
My GTab is docked and stashed in a cabinet, where it's connected to my TV by HDMI and a Logitech USB KB/touchpad combo. I use it mostly to watch live streaming sports video (Fox Soccer and ESPN). The setup works fairly well but Flash and the available browsers limit what I can do a bit. Overclocking has made a huge difference with no apparent side effects.
Right now I'm using Mountain Laurel w Clemsyn's kernel after trying a few other ROMs. Hoping ICS will give me everything I'm looking for with my setup.
Wow, take a look at the screenshot of my inbox. Everytime someone downloads from my viewsonic g tablet site, I get an email notification. I made it that way so I could get a feel of how many people still has the gtab. I get about 4 pages of notifications a day. I really thought the downloads would die down after a month or so. Nope, downloads are still going strong.

She may have a couple of years on her (which is alot in the techno world) but is still a LONG way from being a dinosaur. A VERY capable tablet indeed.....which makes it very enjoyable to use, too. On top of the wonderful programmers that tirelessly work on ALL these android devices for their own fun, as well as recognition & knowledge, we were lucky enough to have someone take the time to develope a website like yours Goodintentions. I can only speak for myself but I DO know that is the very place that sparked my initial interest in android devices right from the getgo. And it is all put together in such a way that it was not intimidating or difficult to learn from. I, for one, am VERY grateful.
Ok, bad move on my part in using my box account to keep track of who's downloading. Haha, gtabbers have officially killed my bandwidth of 10gig a month.
My family uses our gtab literally every day. I wish we had another one
We use ours for gaming and my little one takes it to the grandparent's house for YouTube videos. We use it weekly if not daily!

'Still use mine daily.
Corporate email, Calendar, some gaming, and probably the majority of my web surfing.
I may be hijacking this thread a bit, but frankly, there is nothing to replace it.
If my requirements are:
1 GHZ Dual core processor
Accelerated Video
(Above two necessitate Tegra 2 or better)
7 or 10 inch screen range
Full USB host port
Mini USB port
HDMI out
(3 above must be available without docking, but adapter cables OK)
WiFi
Bluetooth
...what else meets these, and is really of such quality difference that it is worth upgrading?
I'm not going to buy new hardware just to get a newer OS, so the ICS discussion is not part of this, for me.
I still use my regularly.
I've been following the DRH ICS with some interest.
Clemsyn's Beastly Ultimate with some build changes w/ OC to 1.6mhz is what I use everyday. It's so fast and stable that's it hard justify any changes.
Just got mine today
I picked one up today cause wanted to try it on ics etc.. Really like it so far even though it's still on tapatap..but not for much longer.
Still reading and getting it straight about flashing this .. Flashed other devices lots but each one is a new experience.
Hopefully I get USB support ..that's a big plus for me. Only drawback is poor viewing angles but I can live with them ! So off to grab for dummies...
Thanks .....
I picked mine back up just this week's was going to sell it then saw TeamDRH ICS with working hardware acceleration. Running that now. While its pretty cool the ongoing incompatibility with games is still frustrating me.
If only these roms came with a pre configured build.prop to spoof a known compatible device I would be over the moon.
So, I just pulled my server out of the ditch after gtabbers killed my bandwidth. Almost immediately, people started downloading files from my website left and right again.
Simply amazed how many still use my website.
I bought mine a couple months ago from Woot. Got one for a friend as well.
It's still pretty decent compared to what's out there.
No reason to retire it just yet. especially at such a nice price point.
A year on and I still use mine daily, have it docked in my car for GPS navigation (GMaps/Waze) and music/podcast player. (4G Tether and GPS from my android phone)
Once I found a stable enough rom I haven't tried out many of the newer ones.

[Q] is Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus a good Tablet?

I willing to buy this tablet but i have some questions:
1- How is the battery life?
2- Is the screen to small for reading, movies and games ?
3- How is the resolution and clarity of text?
4- any common problem that faced veteran users
Please answer quickly because i am going to buy this tablet tomorrow
I greatly like this tablet though it is my first tablet.
1. Very good and even better when you tweak certain things in for your general use.
2. Movies are fine, reading is fine and I use it often, games are great also comparability is on the low side of things though.
3.Resolution is fine. It has a dpi of 160 and that's nothing to sneeze at.
4. Common problem are SOD's and the lack of source code for the tablet. (SOD is the sleep of death which is when you turn off the screen and it freezes) those are the two things that stand out to me.

1. slightly above average (of 7" tablets)
2. personally, I think its a perfect size.
3. it's "okay." Not great, but not the worst I've seen.
4. quite a few people have experienced problems called "sleep of death" - which basically means the tablet appears dead with the screen off... the only way to recover is press/hold the power button until the tablet reboots. A handful have had issues with corrupted flash memory that rendered the tablet useless. There have also been reports of wifi issues.

Thank you guys, that was really helpful
no, its just not snappy, the resolution and display quality is poor, battery life (and more importantly: battery life management) is poor.
unfortunately, apple hasnt produced a 7" ipad... cuz that would be a better choice
i have GN as my phone, so i support the android platform. its just that this tablet isnt very fun to use. ICS may change that... buts its a longing hope that'll wont get raelied
Wow, that isn't even remotely close to the truth. Do you even own one? The Tab Plus is easily the fastest and the nicest built seven incher on the market.

It's more responsive without Touchwiz, though. But it's still faster than the original 10.1, which was rather sluggish on the TW launcher.

now what possible incentive do i have for not expressing the truth?
it may be the best 7" tablet on the market, but that only speaks to the dearth of good tablets in that space. it does not make the 7GT+ a good tablet per se.

and whats with the default browser trying to dim the screen compared to the rest of the environment? utter bunk.
and the fact that certain apps are not available on 3.x. i have nice magazine readers and browsers on my phone... but want to use it on the tab? no go
I love my tablet, though I only slightly somewhat regret not waiting for the 7.7. Basically the same tablet with a Verizon connection that I'd never use, but with a lot nicer screen. However, I was able to get my 7+ for $270 of eBay, and the 7.7 I probably would have to pay full retail at almost $400 more. I like having cutting edge products that I hold onto forever, but I'm not sure the nicer screen is with that kind of premium in price.

Are you sure you are talking about the right tablet?
Love it, expect ICS to make it even better, and I have no "death sleep" issues, but then I have a refurbished one so maybe they fixed it.
For $275 only thing I know even close is the slower Best Buy version for $250.

1 - I've not had an issue with battery life, using it all day at work then reading before bed. I charge it at night, and I also prefer a very low screen brightness.
2 - I've read 4 novels in the 6 weeks I've owned it. It's maybe a tad small for comics but works OK. I don't have much opportunity to watch movies on it. I do like to use it as a 2nd/3rd screen to run youtube video, video podcasts, or a TV episode while doing something else on my computer.
3 - Text clarity is fine. I use Aldiko for reading and have the font set to Molengo set at 16 it looks great and is very comfortable for me to read.
4 - Not sure what is meant, I'm a veteran technology user and this is my first Android device. With that in mind the biggest issue I have with the device is that after an extended web browsing session it will heat up on the upper left side of the tablet. Also the tablet is picky about power, you will have to use the factory adapter or go out of your way to find a workaround to charge the device.
Overall I'm very satisfied. I think I would also have been satisfied with the 2 version vs the plus. I really love the form factor, the sd slot is handy, and it has good overall performance.
