To moderators,
I believe Droid 2 Global differs enough from Droid 2 to deserve its own section. Would you consider splitting them so people don't get confused?

Please PM the user admin, svetius
If anything just a different development section would be needed as despite it being a few mm thinner it still uses the same accessories and everything else. Same applies to the Milestone II.
Seconds? Thirds?
If this thread gets big with lots of people agreeing, please PM me and I will add a new forum.
I think this is the good decide. Because my Droid 2 Global has brick because install droid 2 rom . And maybe other guys will do the same things like me because the misunderstand droid 2 and droid 2 global is different
I agree a different dev section makes sense. Esp since eventually there will be specific FROM for both versions and confusion could lead to lotsa bricks...

Agreed.
Yup totally agree. Similar architecture but TOTALLY different hardware with a GSM + CDMA + UMTS radio in there. ;-)
I agree that there needs to be a different section too.
I agree... since ROMs and SBFs between the phones aren't compatable, I'd say a new section is needed.
I also think that there must be a new section for the Droid 2 Global. Please!
Agreed.

I also agree! getting mine tuesday and after reading around, im scared to do anything to it because im not sure what will work for it and what wont in the droid 2 section. Would def feel more confident about rooting and rom-ing it if i knew things were being done specifically for the global.
even though i have a d2, i will +1 this for the d2g people.
confused the d2g FROM for the d2 one and i thought i bricked my phone =p
+1! Def a seperate Dev section... and possibly a general section. I'm scared to do anything to my girls D2G.

I agree, too
Agree, please seperate D2G from the D2 section!

motorola is a big player for android world now. I am a little surprised that I can not find any Motorola android device forum(like Motorola milestone) here. why?
XDA was and is a community of developers for HTC devices. They have done much in the way of Android and Windows Mobile development, but it has alway centered around the HTC hardware.
seems to make sense.
but I found special device forum for Sony-Ericsson, Acer, Samsung and LG here.
I suggest Motorola should also deserve one.
Would be nice to have a device forum for the Milestone and Droid
Second that... err, Third
i agree.
although this forum has been mainly for HTC devices, it is now pretty much a staple for all android devices. with that said, i think we should have a forum dedicated to the motorola droid/milestone.
I agree too, I would love too see a Milestone section...it would be soooo beneficial to the device!

While I think adding a Motorola Droid forum would be beneficial, all the phone/forums listed above are actually built by HTC for other companies. (which is why they have a forum here at xda)

With source dropping for the dhd and how easy interoperability between our phones is do we need 2 different forums? Seems it would be easier on you guys if things merged.

it would be much easier for the DEVS which is more important. they wouldnt have to maintain 2 different threads for the same ROM, Theme or Kernel as well..

yes please merge us!
I agree with this. There's a lot of threads I've seen today that are directing you to the DHD forum for further information/troubleshooting - why not make them the same rather than having to post everything twice, or making devs/users have to jump back and forth?
I have to disagree. I prefer the forums seperate.
I could care less what the people in Europe are doing with their Desire HDs. The Inspire is a US phone on AT&T. It has a seperate identity.
Keep in mind even though they are pretty much the same phone, they run on different networks, have different radio software, and are supported by different cell providers. People's experiences will be different than their European counterparts.
Please keep them seperate.
you do realize that almost everything in our forums are from the europe DHD forums right??? so why have 2?

A European ROM flashed with the kernel just released by apache14 works out of the box with no further user tweaking.
I have a feeling that all the rom chefs of Europe will be building their own kernels based on the source that dropped yesterday which is universal, and includes the variations to the American and Canadian DHDs.
I agree that a sub forum may be needed in General but not Dev.
yeah I'm not seeing anything that makes this device any different from the DHD device. The DHD forum isn't limited to 1 single carrier so i'm still not seeing your point of keeping it separate...
worst case scenario look at how the Motorola Milestone and Verizon Drioid forum is laid out.. maybe something similar
and besides the DEV section will start becoming the biggest part of our forums now that ROMS and Kernels are out
Also keep in mind that there are a lot of people who like me have no intention of rooting or modding their phone. So the DEV section is useless to people like me.
I used to jailbreak my iPhone for years, but got bored doing it. The only reason I flashed a custom ROM on my Captivate was cause you had to, being that the stock 2.1 was terrible.
Currently outside of the fact that the back speaker is terrible on the Inspire, I am completely happy the way the phone is. I don't feel I need to flash custom ROMs to get a phone to work the way it should. The Inspire currently works just dandy.
So don't assume everyone is into modding.
there is always the search function. That always helps. Besides where as I know that not ALL people root and load custom roms there are a good portion that do and since that is what the majority do on XDA (D=Developers) then I don't know how relevant your argument is on that one.
did you look at the motorola forum I previously mentioned to you?

Why are you using this forum then? No offense but if I wasn't in to modding my device I would use another less development oriented one like androidforum or something. Most people on xda DEVELOPERS are into development. But I am with you on keeping the dhd and inspire forums separate or at least the dev sections and my only logic on that is because of the sound issues but if the source being released fixes this than I guess there's no point. As far as general I could care less.......

Although I am not really into custom ROMs, I still think this is a great forum to hang out. Plus I think you get a more mature crowd on here who are a bit more techie oriented.
I also read on Androidforums.com and like how they have a separate section for every phone. I think it works, but then again on there I don't think you get the same kind of conversations as you get on here.
As far as what Gunny said, I don't really see a lot of DesireHD stuff in the general section of the Inspire forum. I am sure you do in the DEV section, but so far almost all the threads I see in here are all about the Inspire.
i would be curious to add a poll to this thread.. so far I am only seeing 1 maybe 2 people that may not agree. I'd love to see what general consensus states...

I agree. Too easy for a newb to brick their phone. Just left Tmo and my N1 for Sprint. GO TO HELL AT& T!
When the cdma Hero first came out we at least had a sub-form dedicated to it until the number of posts grew and its own form was justified.
Seeing as all roms will need to be modified to work with the NS4G, a new forum should be created. Mods need to quit dragging their feet on this.
-Ash-
I agree that the gsm and cdma needs their own forum sections. I won't demand anything from the mods because I used to be one and have an idea on what they in through. I agree that newbs and others might accidentally flash the wrong thing and hose their phone. I am very cautious about flashing anything with this phone because of some of the horror stories i've read. There are some things that I am interested in messing with but there's nothing in the description that says which ones it does and doesn't work with. OP maybe you could change the title of this thread to something to do with requesting a separate ns4g section to reduce the confusion and people messing with the wrong flashes.
+10!
That might catch the attention of a moderator more.
who cares about the newbs. every flash on the forum is the user's responsibility. not the OP.
should the OP include the ROMs that are compatiable? yes.
will it get dual support? possibly. your first is relatively new, give it sometime to adjust
i strongly disagree with a new forum. thats like saying the G2 and Desire Z should get different forums... they both share the same forum.
like i mentioned, you're just splitting the community for a minor change. ROMs will get NS4G support (dual support is even possible.. netarchys kernel works on ns4g), give it time.

Talking about splitting the whatever. I forgot where the thread was that had a link to a google developer discussion page. I remember netarchy was saying something about it too. Anyways, there's two separate "versions" of the nexus software. Crespo and crespo4g. It was mentioned that because of gsm and cdma the two can't be merged together (for now).
Im trying to figure out where in the system files the OS looks for GSM or CDMA. The roms for nexus s will boot. No service tho. Probably really complicated in Services.jar

ok the g2 and the dz share the same everything, the radios can be flashed willy nilly..

That's your opinion, which may not reflect that of others!
subthread needed!
I vote FOR a separate thread or subthread...would make it much easier as they are NOT the same phone and require different ROMs.
Is it REALLY REALLY that hard to just put [CDMA] or [NS4G] in front of the ROM that is for the 4G only? Are we really THAT lazy that we need a forum so we don't have to spend 5-10 seconds reading?
I realize that the dev's have been putting something in front, I'm just stating that it's easy and doesn't require a separate section if that standard is followed.
maybe always using tag in thread subject. just for sure..
If the touch pro 2 has separate sections, than the nexus s should and for the same reason which is obvious. Its a no brain-er..

+1 the only section that is different is the Developer forums. Everything else is the same, if anything you'd be losing a large % of the Nexus community to your own forum.
Nexus S: Everybody else except Sprint.
Nexus S 4G: Sprint only.
You do the math. World vs. Sprint 4G
Jeez... its like the civil war all over where they want to have their own territory and break from the union.
It's also even possible that ROMs could have dual support for NS and NS4G. Relax. Just give it time.
We Nexus S users (non-4G) aren't complaining about NS4G ROMs going up on the Developer section. We're one big happy family, stop trying to be special and moving onto your own section where you're going to isolate the community in terms of NS General/NS Q&A/NS Apps&Themes and only have small number of users where you eventually just end up coming back here because your "NS4G" forum doesn't have as much people.
I agree with zephiK.
There should be at least a separate developer forum. Everything else is pretty much the same.

From my standpoint as a relatively newer user, I'd have to agree that separating this into sub-forums would be much easier to follow than the current layout especially on XDA Mobile.
I voted yes but...
I would say the TAG's would make it more searchable/sortable. If the goal of XDA staff is to keep all of us "NexSicans" under one happy roof this would be the fastest and easiest routes.
I have mod/admin experience on another unrelated forum and I can tell you these guys have a big job moderating already, so adding a sub section and finding harmony is not a fast and easy decision. So I can appreciate whatever decision you can all agree on to give your staff some relief.
From the Sprint users point of view, we would feel really welcomed to the family if the current Nexus S forum would also include the 4G title.
Or people could just read. Crazy I know. No subforum needed.

No body has even said the sun will rise in the west. Did I ever say any ROMs are both compatible at this given time? No. Is it possible? Maybe. It's too early to draw conclusions but koush is doing work on getting CM7 to work for the NS4G.
Sorry but regardless of whatever forum you're on for XDA. Flashing a ROM is to the user's responsibility, not the OP. There's no body to blame but yourselves.
I still stick by my point about NS4G and NS. I don't understand why you want to separate the community. The analogy for the "Civil War" about the Union & Confederacy fits perfectly. Don't know why you want to separate apart. It takes a few seconds to read if its a NS and NS4G ROM.
Why is there not a separate section for Nexus S 4G? Having to sift through all these threads is ridiculous. Come on Admins/Mods, lets get on the ball here.

The different versions of the same phone thing could use some rethinking anyway. Lots of forums at the top level just clutter everything up, split communities and break dev synergies.
You know what would be nice? A required selection for each thread, indicating which variant(s) it applies to and a corresponding filter for the forum view.
i agree we need separate sections but what id love to see is the addition of more roms such as miui and sense for the nexus 4g. stock is good but it would be nice to have more options.

How would separate sections change that? Separate sections would allow you to find compatible radios and roms easier and with less risk of bricking your expensive new phone.
i have to say this is probably the most disheartening thread on the forum. its sad to see that the nexus s owners were at first irritated that that sprint owners wanted a seperate forum, now i see many of those people in here, not saying it outright but wishing we were off here instead of clogging up crap. i dont blame them one bit, its just kinda sad..
