motorola is a big player for android world now. I am a little surprised that I can not find any Motorola android device forum(like Motorola milestone) here. why?
XDA was and is a community of developers for HTC devices. They have done much in the way of Android and Windows Mobile development, but it has alway centered around the HTC hardware.
seems to make sense.
but I found special device forum for Sony-Ericsson, Acer, Samsung and LG here.
I suggest Motorola should also deserve one.
Would be nice to have a device forum for the Milestone and Droid
Second that... err, Third
i agree.
although this forum has been mainly for HTC devices, it is now pretty much a staple for all android devices. with that said, i think we should have a forum dedicated to the motorola droid/milestone.
I agree too, I would love too see a Milestone section...it would be soooo beneficial to the device!

What about the Cliq?
Also +1
The Motorola Droid can't be missed on this forum.
+4 would be great to see an Motorola Sub forum
Of course there should, one third of Android phones are Motorola Droid/Milestone after all.
+1 for milestone forum.

While I think adding a Motorola Droid forum would be beneficial, all the phone/forums listed above are actually built by HTC for other companies. (which is why they have a forum here at xda)
But would still be nice for a xda forum, all the devs here would make it well worth while

I agree. I was quite surprised when I couldn't find a Motorola Droid section. Although it's not an HTC device, it still deserves it's own section and it would have a strong community backing it up.

Really? I wasn't aware that Acer, LG, Samsung etc. Android devices were built by HTC!
Are you sure of that?
BTW, +1 for a Droid/Milestone sub forum.
+1 here.
Would definitely love to see a Droid forum.

Hello all,
With how big the buzz is on the new Moto Droid, and how awesome the reviews have been on it so far, I'm hoping the modding community would attack it like a wolf on a sheep.
The question of the day though, is where will the modders conglomerate? It's not a HTC phone, so of course it wouldn't be on XDA (though I wish it was, because the android community here is first class awesome).
Why not create a sister site of XDA called droid-developers.com (or any name really, i wrote this because android-developers.com is taken). We could move all of the android forums and posts over to the sister site (which would definitely save bandwidth here on XDA), and that way the devs can have a one stop area for all android development, not just HTC phones. They could then just create new forums for other phones, like the liquid a1, motorola droid, samsung galaxy, etc..
If we have different sites for different manufacturers, the dev and mod community will be broken apart on different sites, whereas they could all be centrally located on one site.
Having all the android devs in one location not only helps form a community, but it also makes it a one stop location for everything android modding and developing. Others have tried doing so, but each attempt failed because there was no backing. If XDA made the site, it would have the backing of XDA, and with them moving all the current android forums over to the new site, it would be instant 100% backing, as that is where the devs would go for their current projects that are already posted, and any new projects.
As it stands now, there is a different forum for dream/magic, yet a lot of the posts get double posted in each because they are applicable to each. when someone is working on an application, do they choose to put it in the Dream section, Magic section, or Hero section? With it's own complete forum, there could be a general app section, etc..
Lets use an example. The Samsung Galaxy. It was the second android phone released. It's a great phone, but because it's not made by HTC, and therefore has no place on XDA, there is no modding community for it at all. A great device (and really the only one with a good amount of internal storage) has no hopes for the modding future because there is no central location for devs to conglomerate. If it was made by HTC, it would have flourished in the modding community simply because it could be discussed and worked on here at XDA.
The main thing, is they're modding Android, not the specific device. Sure each device has it's own quirks, but Android as a whole is what the topic is about. Why limit it to just HTC phones?
So please, if you agree that this will help the android community, vote in the poll, and voice your opinion by posting in this thread.
Well, as I find the proposal fair enough I've voted yes, but I'm not at all convinced about that domain.
If you intend to move devs from this site (which is well known in the android scene) to a new one, and you use as a reason that this was htc specific, you can't possibly try to name the new site droid-developers in direct reference to a motorola phone.
it wasn't used for a motorola reference. android-developers.com is already taken, as is android-devs.com.
If you have any other suggestions for domain names please post them.
Edit: fixed the first post to reflect what i stated here about the name
Are the mods here not going to create a section for this phone?
There will be no section for The Droid, Galaxy, Cliq, Liquid A1, etc.. because they are not HTC phones. XDA is for HTC phones only.

Lol, it's the origins of XDA. Look at all the phones listed on the forum. They're all HTC phones. XDA is another name for an older htc phone. This site was made and is used only for HTC phones.

Because the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 was made by HTC.
How about making an Android section on this forum that has every Android device, HTC or not? Still under the XDA-Developers.com domain though.

That wouldn't work also, as it would make the main site very clustered. the current per phone forum layout is great, and I would hope the new site would maintain the same layout. Each phone definitely needs it's own forum for hardware hacks (like rooting, SPL's, custom ROM's, etc..) but with all Android devices in one place, it's easier for the community to discuss, mod, etc.. from device to device.
you got another yes here. i would like to see all android being supported.
I too would like to see all Android supported. Especially seeings how a lot of the development will apply to most devices.
I personally hope for a new site to offload some traffic. With android coming to more carriers there is bound to be much heavier traffic.
XDA has been invaluable to me since I got my titan a few years back.
As I have been considering the DROID as an upgrade, I would feel much better about that choice knowing it had a great community to support it despite not being an HTC device.
The same could apply to Windows Mobile though. There are great WinMo devices that aren't supported by the xda-dev's. They can only do so much.
I ststed this in another thread. ModMyMoto will have a section for Droid and Cliq. As far as the others Im sure a site such as PPCGeeks will have the other devices covered.
But I wouldnt be chosing a phone based on the presence of a forum. There will always be someone modding a device if it exists, and finding info is easy enough with google.
If all the devices were located on the same forum, you would have all kinds of tardos flashing files to incorrect devices.
If youve been on XDA for a while you know that these conversations come and go. XDA does their thing, they are the big dogs on the block so its not a big deal if it takes another site to fill in the gaps that XDA cant cover.
I post most of my work on alldroid.org because I would like to use that site for software related things and then use XDA for hardware related things for my G1. I think once more non-HTC phones hit the stores there will be a big influx of people looking for a site to mod on and I dont think XDA will be able to support it unless they dramatically change their ways.
Was going through my past subscriptions and I came upon this thread. Oh how the tides have changed
Ahhh this brings back so many memories. It's great to see how much XDA has progressed over the years!
I sure love the XDA site and am sad to have to look elsewhere once I pick up my Droid today. Is there any chance of XDA getting a forum for it on here?
I know that it's normally a HTC only site, but the Sony Ericcson X1 has it's own forum. I assume that's not made by HTC?

Wrong. X1 is made by HTC, that is why it has a forum. No Non-HTC devices here.
Gotcha, thanks for clearing that up for me, even if it is a humongous bummer
Long Live XDA.
Understood the Droid is not an HTC device, so anyone know of an XDA-like forum for Droid users?
I really thought about waiting for an HTC device, but the only one on the horizon is the Dragon/Passion and still too little information is known on that.

that site is an absolute zoo D;
noobs everywhere asking the most basic android questions
HOWEVER, they've already established a couple threads on rooting the droid.

Like I said there, any mods have an opinion on the possibility of establishing a Droid forum?

as the admins have stated in the past, this site is for HTC devices only.
I am working on establishing one. If anyone wants to help It would be appreciated Especially anyone here from XDA

For Droid & Cliq / Dex users
Hmm..
What about a group of forums for the Eris (HTC Desire) which IS obviously made by HTC? Or should we keep posting in the Hero CDMA forums?
Anyone know an answer to my above post?
Anyone know an answer to my above post?
I still cannot find a support forum for my phone Motorola Milestone XT720 (aka Motoroi). Can XDA make a forum?
This forum is for phones made by HTC. Go check out Modmymoto.com
are you saying that all the phone currently listed here are made by HTC?? including Motorola Droid/Milestone, Droid X and Microsoft KIN? I hope not.
I know that XDA used to be HTC support forum. I've owned a HTC Touch 3G once and I can find a lot of support from XDA. But currently, XDA is expending it's mobile Database since they added SonyEricsson Experia X1.
C'mon buddy, open your eye and have a look around in the forum. Then come back here to say it's HTC only or not.
yeah itd be nice to see a forum expansion for certain phones
Admins, we're having more and more users using Milestone XT720. Are we gonna have a forum soon?

Do some research first please. XDA has some non-htc phones over here but almost all the phones here are manufactured by HTC (including sony experia. HTC is the oem)

"Almost" does not means "all". I knew from the start that SE Xperia hardware is made by HTC. But if there is Droid/ Droid X and Milestone, then Milestone XT also deserve a place in this forum. That's my point.

Greetings to all devs and mods,
I am writing here toady to propose the additional of a subforum for Milestone XT720 under the Motorola Milestone forum.
Currently, all XT720 developments from users are posted under the Milestone subforum.
Initially, it was ok because there were only few threads on the XT720 anyway.
But as XT720 development matures, I believe that the Milestone forum will become very messy with a mix of Milestone and Milestone XT720 topics.
Therefore, I suggest adding a separate subforum for Milestone XT720.
The directory will be as follows:
Home > Motorola Droid and Milestone > Motorola Milestone XT720 Android Development
Thank you for your attention.

Also it is somehow misleading if you have just bought the device and try to install milestone recovery or custom roms.
Motorola upgrade website is also same, they just say milestone in upgrade calender. (no mention of xt720)
+1. we hope to have our space. Pls?
I JUST bought this phone, so I would also like to see this happen. It is rather confusing that this phone shares a name with another model which is COMPLETELY different.
Well I'm an N1 user; but I have a buddy who just got the XT720 and I'm voting +1 on his behalf.

XT720 needs its own forum.
I flashed endless times something that did not work, before realizing that it was belonging to the other phone.
Time is precious, not everyone can be on forums for a long time.
Add this XT720 too, thank you.

I don't see why it isn't getting its own forum.
its a HTC device, and this is what this website is for. Just because it is considered a girls phone, it doesn't Mena it shouldn't be allowed a forum here.

Being a girls phone has nothing to do with it. Forums are added based on demand, specs, and other things of the like. This isn't a website of just HTC Devices; There's Samsung, Motorola, Huawei, HP, Dell, Toshiba, ASUS, Acer, you name it (except Apple).

True, this is a forum for all devices. But, it is originally for HTC devices, and they were meant to always get full support.

That is not even close to the case. Devices get forums based on the need. If there is alot of development going on for the device then it has a better chance.
