cyanmod team? - Epic 4G Android Development

Ok seriously...noobnl was our only dev on the cyan team. Is anyone planning on taking it up?
Noobnl can you plz just cme back for a litle get it booting and working ill help!
I had the evo, and noobl your the only reason I switched to the epic. You need to be on the team.
Ok I'm off my soapbox promise
About cyan...could we just replace the anroid.com.phone from the one on the epic? Its the fc u get when u boot up. Id imagine some libs would have to be screwed around with. I'm not that good but am a quick learner so please get at me if you know how to compile and can lead me in the right direction.
Cyan ftw!

Pretty sure noobnl makes the source available. You don't have to be "on the team" to work on it.

I must say Noob, You will be missed. Your andromeda ROM was the first one I tried out on my epic, and I have been eagerly awaiting CM on my phone, but I understand that work/school comes first. I go to college and am an assistant manager at Best Buy Mobile myself >.< the drains on ones time are extensive. But for all the work you've done, thank you!!! Here's hoping you'll leave with Cyanogen Mod Bang!

Good stuff!

Noobnl = Cyanogenmod!!!
WOW, didn't except this at all. Very very very sad to see you go Noobnl. Thank you for all your work! We all owe you tons for your work in the community. Hoping to see you back soon

There's a few other people working on this, too. Noobnl did most of the work and effort, but that doesn't mean that because he won't develop anymore this will be dead.

Whats the big deal about CM6?I found Syndicate barebone to be almost just as light and fast as CM6,with few more tweaks Syndicate can be next CM6,but CM6 is nice and Noobnl will definitely be missed.

well I guess the main differences between the ACS and the CM Team are that the CyanogenMod team is just better!
I jest I jest. I have used both CM6 on other phones and Syndicate on my Epic and I appreciate the work any dev does. Especially considering how barebones the Epic forums will soon be if things keep going the way they have.
However, the main differences with CM6 and Syndicate have less to do with tweaks and more to do with source. CM is built from the ground up off of pure old android. Off of the original sdk from Google. Syndicate is more or less based off of the latest and greatest Samsung firmware. CM6 isn't just customized to be light (although its always been a huge plus) it also comes with things that just aren't possible through any other ROMs. Touch to focus inside the camcorder for one, or swiping away notifications ala webOS style. Also building in a modified version of the way Sammy did the power widgets in the notification shade from SCRATCH. The menus are much more functional in CM than anywhere else.
The only way to really see why people get so excited here whenever the words "CM6" and "Epic4G" are mentioned in the same sentence is to try it out on a supported device yourself. Than you will see that CM6 is established. They have long been around. They don't just modify ROM's, they create. They make the product that I would love to see come stock from Google. CM6 = One of the best experiences you will ever have running android on your phone. Period.
That is all.

Exciting! Can't wait to test it out.
If it's anything like the current alpha, it's sure to be a winner.

I had CM6 on MTS3g for about 2 months and loved it,CM6 is pure android and is probably the best rom I used but what im sayin is tha Syndicate is pretty damn close to CM6 in terms of responsiveness and speed, but CM6 got extra settings. So if its compiled from scratch what benefits it has over say Syndicate rom besides having more samsung and sprint sht removed?

Thanks for that info.
This Epic is my first Android phone, however coming from WebOS and palm for many years, the mention of swiping and true mods to behavior is exciting!
So, count me in as looking forward to trying out CM6 with DK17. And thanks to noobnl for finishing up whatever he was working on with it.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. I've had about 12 different phones in the last three years or so including the epic. And I have to say one of the most exciting in terms of modding core behaviors was the palm pre. webOS was an OS that almost anyone could gain dev access to and tinker with. Android is (in my opinion) more powerful, and because of that it takes more know-how to mod it, which is why devs like BTThomas22x and all of the ACS and Noobnl and many many others on here deserve a lot more respect than they are given.
But, again, personally, I have yet to really see anyone take android and mold it the way the CyanogenMod Team has. I bought the epic on day one, mainly for the screen and the hummingbird.. but I almost chose the EVO at the last minute because it already had Cyanogen on it. The wait is long.. but the results will be worth it!

I wish those dumb mf's that make webos would just make large screen phone, webos is really atractive but small screen keeps people from buying it,how those corporate people keep their jobs is beyond me.

LMAOOO I totally agree! Then again, thats part of why palm sunk and was bought up by HP. The hardware didn't attract enough customers, so dev's didn't really support it, so app's not enough apps got made, so even more people stayed away from it. pretty soon a lot of devs left it too. Its a sad thing when an OS launches with only 14 apps. and its even sadder when 3 months later nothing has changed.
And all of this is totally skipping over the fact that Palm chose to launch on a carrier that didn't have the service it needed and didnt get the advertising to survive.
Ah, well. We're getting off topic tho lol Android for the win!

Lol. I agree. People always laugh when I tell them the Pre was on of my favorite phones. All it needs is better hardware, then more people would buy then the developers would develop.

It might brick your phone, it might permanently break 4G, it might kill your kitten.
I take no responsibility for any problems from this ROM, including but not limited to poor reception, deleting your entire Facebook account, or causing nuclear warfare.
It is also not much of an original work. I basically just get my kanging on with some ROMs before I load them, and someone had mentioned they might be interested.
Basically I am an AOSP fan, and really liked Bugless Beast 0.4. As bugs were found and Pete moved away from the EVO tjohnsonjr's NonSense became the spiritual successor for some of us. This ROM just takes it a small step further.
Removed
- Device Self Service
- Boot up sound
Added
- AOSP Calendar
- Eliot Stocker Music app (from CM and DC)
- BB v.4 launcher and home
- Bugless Beast Tips
- I put the Adobe Flash apk in, haven't tested it yet
- Quick Boot
- Spare Parts
- multitouch keyboard (also has AOSP and HTC IME)
- Lots of FCs
Uninstallable
- Beast Tips
- Adobe Flashplayer <- might or might not work
- quickboot
- Corp Cal
- ES File Explorer
- HTC Photo Album <- might break something
- Spare Parts
- Sprint TV
- Sprint VVM
- Weather <- might break something
I left the HTC browser, because it will still support double tap to resize, and the HTC copy and paste tool. It just sucks that it only allows 4 tabs. I did not put in a lot of the stuff people typically put in like Rom Manager, Titanium Backup, etc. since they will be out of date so soon anyway.
I have been mostly using CM6 instead of this, and had to kinda remake it, and it isn't very well tested. In fact I am currently in Mexico on vacation so I haven't been able to test the phone or data connections.
If you find something wrong, just post it here so I can ignore it, or maybe make fun of you. If it breaks your phone, you are welcome to whine here. If you post your mailing address I will either send a new phone to you to replace it, or stick a smelly dead fish in your mailbox, or not do anything at all. More than likely the last option.
I don't know why you would want to run this instead of a smooth running ROM that has actually had bugs fixed and won't FC every 3 minutes. CM6 is really strong as a 2.2 right now, and the official 2.2 is kinda out/will be out for real in days. DC and Fresh and NonSense and Baked Snack and many others are killer 2.1 ROMs that give you more features, stability, and battery life than stock. I sure don't plan to run this, or support it. Those guys really know what they are doing.... I can't even figure out how to change the default wallpaper without breaking stuff.
This ROM is just lame.
If you are still interested I suggest talking to a doctor. And you can grab it from the link right here.
Of course a big thanks to all the people I have totally mooched off of. I'm missing some, but off the top of my head.
- tjohnsonjr
- BuglessPete
- dsixda
- Eliot Stocker

- Google & HTC & Sprint of course

It's not really BB 4, but I THINK it won't have the awake bug. The awake bug seems to have something to do with all the stuff he pulled out. The NonSense ROM is much more conservative on what it removes (HTC Dialer is still in there for instance).
What do people like about Bugless Beast? The more I know what in particular to bring over, the better this will be.
I could also try to grab BBv4 and fix it, but it is pretty old at this point (pre 1.47) and it doesn't seem worth the effort.
That said, if I keep this going it will more than likely become a CM6 base with tweaks, since it is true AOSP, not just sense with AOSP apps hacked in.

What do you guys want out of a Froyo build that isn't already in CM6? Things are too crazy at work right now to have something out very soon, but I'm game to do more. I just don't know what AOSP people want that isn't already in CM.

Odds of Cyangen Rom?

Guys what are the odds of stock android rom hacked on to the Sammy Charge???
Wondering what others are thinking?
Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA App
The odds are better than the odds that you took time to read the Development board where there are 2 ROMs available
and most likely a 3rd one soon by the dev that did the Liberty ROM the Tesla ROM.....
But if all you care about is this CM ROM; go get something else.
I'm sure there will be one eventually, but if you want it within the next month, I'd look elsewhere, as there are no guarantees as to when it will come or how functional it will be.
Lol @ Shotgunsams great response.

@shotgunsam...... Ummmm roms available. There all spruced up TouchWiz tweaks.
I am meaning a true Rom not built ontop of touchwiz.
Either i was looking for hope of one. Since the fascinate never got one.
Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA App
Uh, did you read the descriptions of the ROMs? DroidXCon gives you LauncherPro, other launchers soon to come, and imnuts has a streamlined ROM with the default AOSP launcher. Both completely remove TW launcher, according to the descriptions.
I too would love to see CM7 for this device. But the fact is, there are a few great ROM's available already, which is incredible considering the phone has only been out for two weeks! I really appreciate the hard work of the devs, and can't wait to see what's available in the coming weeks.
I got the DI when it first came out. First it was when will it get root. Root was a ***** becasue it was so random it worked with some sd cards and some it did not. There were methods of clicking your sd card in and out which actually worked for me. Not a day latter everyone was *****ing about roms. When will we get this or that rom. Look at almost 1 year later and there are crazy amount of roms. It takes time be patient and look forward to what is coming. Crap I am typing this and I don't even get my charge till tuesday. I hate touchwiz I will root, rom, replace launcher with one of my choosing. If I hate something will just get another phone 6 8 months down the road but really not concerned about it at this point. I think in time it will be like every other phone tons of awesome roms from great developers. Liberty was one of if not the best roms for the droidx which I own. Just knowing they same people that worked on that rom is doing stuff for charge has me stoked.
Guys im not knockin the devs. But everything is built off TOUCHWIZ just cause you get rid of the launcher its still touchwiz under the hood.
The fascinate never had a locked bootloader either and noone ever got a stock android rom working. So i was just asking if it would be possible here. Anyways no biggie....

No way of saying will it get cwm7 or not. I will say the Droid x has a locked boot loader but Liberty rom was amazing. They put a ton of details and tweeks so that you could change things they way you want. As much as you could anyways with a locked boot loader. The developers of that rom did a great job with what they had to work with. Now if they are dev for this phone and it is fully unlocked. Wow no dobut will they put out a awesome rom for it. Now I have every intention to installing the best roms out for this phone when I get it tuesday. Developers deserve not only our thanks but donations as well. Thank you guys that put in all the hard work making our phones run crazy cool.
Unlike other skins tw is small and really is easy to remove. I've deleted alot and it still is functioning. Sense roms=200MB touchwiz=100MB and idk about blur

Well Samsung released the kernel source pretty much immediately didn't they? Also didn't Samsung say they were going to be better about releasing that kind of stuff, and also keeping bootloaders more open? So this could be a real possibility. Although if you know what your removing, I would assume like HTC Sense, you can pretty much take a TW based rom and completely remove TW and have it work fine.

The reason the download is so big is that Samsung didn't clean out the kernel source tree after building, and tar'd up the source files as well as the built binaries (and all the other generated files). After you download, do "make distclean" and you'll save yourself some space and get rid of the useless files.

Apparently a lot of people are having trouble understanding the question. lol
I been wondering the same thing though. I have a good feeling about CM getting on bored eventually, it's what I'm looking foreward to the most with this phone. I miss having my notification bar on the bottom of my phone like I did with my D'Inc... lol
The only reason I say I "think" that it has a good chance getting CM support is because it seems, besides the Fascinate, they have been doing a great job cracking down on Samsung phones lately in the past few months. Besides the more phone supported by them, the better and the more recongnition they get. Until then ADW Ex is working fine for me.

Coming from the original Incredible (CDMA) Rooting and ROMing was a breeze and also received CM support pretty quickly. If anything, I would think that the 4G radio would be the hardest work around. You never know though.

Why dose everyone keep coming out with the same ROM's

Most roms that are coming out are always so stockish, y keep making the same thing...
Believe me I understand it takes time and effort to make something deferent but ain't that whole point to start with... Thats the whole hacking idea in general, im not hating on anyone its just the way I see it, it takes to long to make the same crud over and over again and just got some small type of differences which make one stand out, here and there... I believe that if ox and devil and peter something came together something better would just spring up idk you guys tell me what you think?

That was before the theme engine days. Themes aren't for everyone, so leaving the rom looking stock gives the enduser the power of personalization.

I kind of like stockish
well from what i been trying i really dont mind a os that is stockish but with some features. I am looking at stability and features. so far the only one i have found this with after trying all the cm7 nightly(114 to 180) I finally switch to superosr and its seems good comes stock but options to custom from the menu. I find that cool.
believe it or not there's this craze going on, about everyone wanting slim, clean, fast roms
you should check out SuperAOS, that one is packed with tons of stuff
but if you really want to be unique, start creating your own ROM, then you can do whatever the heck you want to it, and fully load it with stuff you want

CM7 is about as modded as I like a ROM to be but I do miss all the options that were available on the EVO 4G. Sense is fun to play with but I always come back to CM7. I just love some of the simple refinements such as toggle widgets on the status bar and the lock screen.

Maybe a chance for Sidekicks advancement?

I just read a little bit ago that the motorola cliq 2 just got Gingerbread after a year and four months of no updates at all. Do you think this means we have a chance for GB or just a tease that one old phone gets special support and not the others? And if we got true ginger would it help with the ROM/Mod nation or would it just be putting sparkles on the corpse of our phone?
Probably not. That news inst super recent, and motorola supports their phones a little bit better then samsung. If we get gingerbread it will be through the community more than likely.

Darn, got my hopes up for nothing :/ Oh and sorry for not noticing the ginger thread you just posted.
Nah its all good bro its all a hypathetical thread really anyways.

Motorola is different from Samsung pushing update wise.
This phone has passed a year so Samsung no longer supports it.

Don't give yourself false hope, it's already been said support has been dropped in favor for a new Sidekick that will be coming out..
You're only hope here is if Reactive stops acting like a prick to you guys, but you all let me know how that goes.

Okay, off of the argument is there any chance of a custom made Ginger or is it hypothetical or? I've seen a few people tweaking kernels and such in their threads but Is there a real answer or is it just maybe?

Gingerbread on Sidekick is currently only hypothetical. My take is that it might still be possible, but very difficult.
Sduvick managed to boot an AOSP 2.2 kernel up to a certain point, but IIRC, it was still far from usable. No graphics. His work is available in github.
Winxixi got CM7 booting and into the GUI, but with incomplete driver support. I think he got frustrated and left. His work is also available in github.
I don't know if winxixi would consider continuing development, or if he has moved on to a different device. If he would continue development, and the rest of us helped with troubleshooting, research, etc., perhaps we can get a fullly operational Gingerbread.
It's really just a big project, very difficult for an individual to tackle to completion. Dividing the labor might improve the outlook.

Well, like others have said, maybe not GB, but there's CM6 which can be ported (we're just lacking the knowledge of how to do it)

actually cm6 is being ported as we speak, piece by piece.

Yes, it's being ported using the machete toolchain.
What's the Machete Toolchain? And is CM going to help us get a little farther up the Droid food chain? I mean I don't expect Jelly Bean on my phone but Ginger, or a ginger mock up would be cool, I would like some kind of exploit for the ICS exclusive apps and such to make it a bit smooth (I know It's a basically unattainable dream don't worry
It's a bit of a joke. Machete like this: http://images.google.com/search?q=machete+blade&btnG=Search&tbm=isch&hl=en&biw=&bih=&gbv=1
I.e. he's hacking off pieces Touchwiz as though with a knife.
I think CM6 will if not help, atleast give hope towards CM7 coming to this device.

Honestly I'd be thrilled if we gained a vanilla, built-from-source CM6 ROM, especially if the sources/patches were made fully available.

Its a little more involved then that. Lots of AOSP/CM6 patches to replace the Touchwiz components. Piece by piece im riding the stock rom of Touchwiz. I had to compile and mingle code to get AOSP messaging working correctly.

I know, but the machete image fits better with my feelings toward Touchwiz.

This device is super unique when it comes to the LED lighting. NO other device has this kind of LED setup. So I have no device that is all AOSP to compile it from.

[DEV][TEAM WX435] has arrived!

To all the XDA Motorola Triumph fans we have arrived. We have packed our bags from Android Forums and this will be our new stomping ground. We took most of the dev's and formed a collaborative team
https://github.com/WX435
We will be working on making the Motorola Triumph a much better phone and all working together to fix many issues. Right now our main goal is working on rewriting our device files for CM7 and then moving those files into CM9 and AOKP. If we continue to have success we may also start working on AOSP flavors like Gingerbread and ICS as well. Stay tuned for some radical changes and fixes!
Now we just need to talk to B_randon and Austrie
Hey I'm all in over here!! So we jumped ship at androidforums lol!! ! I have to get my buntu install back up and running on my laptop and ill be back in the dev game!

Well you have the kernel skills that is for sure! And that sir is a big deal!
Yeah I wish I had time to mess with the 2.6.35 and 3.0 kernels more! There isn't any reaseon why our phone wont run its its just a matter of porting all the triumph changes in and getting them to play nice with the newer kernels!

Sweet. Hoping to see great things for the triumph.

Good luck guys, looking foreword to following your progress and trying to pick up on as much as I can.

That is my plan once I release CM 7.2.0, however I will be posting on both sites XDA and AF.
Hi, G60, can you comment on this latest development here: http://androidforums.com/triumph-al...d-sharp-2-2-2-triumph-mms-now-working-5.html?
It seems that using this remodeled Sharp ROM, everything in HW (including AGPS) can be made to work. Is that something which can be leveraged for general development? If so, perhaps in the spirit of team building, everyone can pull together to get one ROM out to use as a basis. Sorry, I'm a dev IRL, but don't know much about how these ROMs are built (from source? provided binaries?). I can help if we're shorthanded doing such a thing.
Thanks.

agent,
Right now our focus is CM7. I am currently reworking the device files for the phone, trying to make everything perfect. I have already downloaded the sharp ROM and will dive into it more to pull out the AGPS to see if I can make it work in CM7. Right now my focus has been on the video and it's getting much better but still needs some tweaks. b_randon is working on the kernel, we are hoping to upgrade that as well. Once I have the device files done will then be reworking them into CM9 & AOKP along with kernel. It's a slow process as we have completely started from scratch. Just know we are working it :good:
Ok, thanks. I just tried out the Sharp ROM, and another thing its seems to get right is deep sleep while wifi is on. I'm not sure if it's doing it correctly or just turning it on when screen is unlocked (not sure what's default on android), but I had auto-sync on. I've never had wifi deep sleep work before (Juicedefender has a bug here). That's kind of a big deal since we've previously had to trade off battery life for speed. Wifi-on is also instant whereas it takes a while in Juicedefender.
