Viewsonic Tablet: Say No to Sears Restocking Fee

I've never had a problem returning anything at Sears except once. I bought a floor model once and returned it to store pick-up area. Then went to cashier to get refund. Cashier wanted to charge a restocking fee. I said no. Cashier calls down to pick-up they say it requires a restock fee. I tell them it's a floor model and what's to restock just set it back on the floor. They say only manager can over rule pick-up receiver. I ask for manager. They call manager who tells them by phone to not charge restock fee.
Read policy below and notice the "MAY, BUT NEED NOT BE" in the policy. The restocking fee only applies if they determine the item was "used". If everything is in perfect condition including the box and manual etc., no restocking free would be charged. This means everything in the box including enclosed coupons if any, English manual, Spanish manual, ever single thing. Box needs to look new so open it and everything carefully. Put everything back together perfectly. Should look new and ready to resell. If anything is missing they will only exchange it for the same or like item. Be nice during return, even if you need the manager.
From Sears website as of today 11/30/10
Satisfaction Guaranteed or Your Money Back
Restocking/Cancellation Fee Policy (Not applicable in HI)
A 15% restocking fee is charged on Home Electronics returned without the original box, used, and without all of the original product packaging and accessories; Mattresses, built in Home Appliances, and special orders on Hardware, Sporting Goods, Lawn & Garden, and Automotive merchandise. Home Electronics returned in opened boxes may, but need not be, determined to have been used. Special orders cancelled after 24 hours of purchase are subject to a 15% order cancellation fee.
My receipt on the 27th had wording about the return policy and the 15% restocking fee. I returned my gtab for another on, and never paid the restocking fee. It was clearly opened, and the returned item marked for clearance. So yes they may have this policy, doesn't mean they enforce it, maybe because I wasn't returning but exchanging....i'm not going to complain. Just wish I could have gone back and gotten the item on clearance knowing now how to unbrick these things. Live n learn, someone hopefully got a great deal.
Where was that? Which sears?

How we (almost) scammed Sears

Just a little issue with Sears service. My dad had ordered a gTab for me for Christmas, and after I got it, we saw the deal on for the free dock. We knew we wouldn't get it, seeing as how we ordered the tablet before the deal was on, but it was worth a shot
So we went down to Sears again to see if we could get the dock, and my dad remembered, when he picked up the tablet after ordering it on the Sears website, when he went to pick it up he didn't sign anything or even show them any ID. So we then hatched an elaborate plan to embarrass the Sears location.
We went into the store like any person would that is picking up an order, scanned our reciept into the machine, and sure enough, it said that we hand't picked up our gTab and case, even though we had. The guy came out and said "here sir, here is your tablet and case".
My dad then convinced him to get his manager out to "talk about the dock deal", and from there managed to embarrass the manager saying that he could have taken a second tablet if he wanted to. We tried to use our honesty as leverage to get the dock deal, but no dice, they were out of them anyway.
So, if you have no ethics and don't remember the person who gave you your gTab making you sign anything, it may be worth trying to pick up a second one? I'm merely pointing out a weakness in Sears delivery process.
This is very strange. I live in NJ and bought a G-Tab at my local Sears on 12/31. It was in stock and I went thropugh the usual pickup process. This past Friday, I had a message on my machine from Sears telling me my merchandise was ready for pickup. As I hadn't ordered anything, I called and, sure enough, there is a GTab waiting for me to bring it home... I can't do it thhough, although I've been ripped off plenty by Sears in the past!
Call?
Have you thought to call and let sears know their system is not working right? I know the temptation could be great, but I would feel obligated to call and inform them of the issue..... Just sayin'
Yes, when we were at the store we told the manager what had happened and that we werent asked for any identification. She said she was sorry and thanked us for our honesty. She said it was probably a temporary holiday employee, seeing as how it was the Christmas season
If Amazon has 2 delivered to my house I'll gladly take them both.

[Q] {Q} Can I return an unopened ASUS Transformer to BB after 14 days?

I purchased a couple Transformers from Best Buy and BJ.com. I have one more than I need as I thought I had cancelled the BJ.com order. The trick is that the two Best Buy units i have opened. I have a sealed unit but the 14 days are passed so I can't take those back. The final Asus 16GB I have is from BJ.com and I am too late to send it back to them. I am thinking I can take it back to BB after the 14days since it is still sealed. Anybody have experience here? The total cost of this unit is $450 since I paid for the BJ membership and expedited shipping on April 26th. Help????
Todd
Best buy return policy is 14 on tablets and computers, 30 on most everything else. If you have silver membership via the Rewards program, that is extended out to 45 days on all items. The 45 days with Silver is why I bought at BBY actually.
BBY is pretty good though about returns without a receipt if it is unopened. with a $250+ item expect a giftcard or check via mail.
Thought about selling it to one of the people desparately waiting for their orders here on XDA?

I've tried to return two gifts that I've received past the return period to best buy. Both times the package was unopened and I had the receipt, and both times they wouldn't let me return the items even after asking to speak to a manager. In both cases I took the same products to walmart, obviously without a receipt, and they took them and issued a gift card to me no questions asked. It may not be the right thing to do morally, but I spend enough money at walmart, and I was returning brand new unopened products so I don't feel bad about it. You could give this a shot, although the fact that walmart only sells the transformer online may be an issue.
If you sell it on amazon, ebay, craigslist you'd most likely get more than what you originally paid for, it's not that hard to do either.
Yea i'm sure there more than enough people wiling to help you out here

[Q] RMA Robbery

My touchscreen on my TF has completely stopped responding to touch. I've tried resetting the device and wiping the data, but nothing will bring it back to life. I've been stuck at the Honeycomb Start screen for 2 days now, where you select your language when you first activate your device.
I called Asus support and they issued an RMA. When I got the email I realized it said that I had to pay to ship the device to Texas to get fixed. I refuse to pay to have this fixed after I just spend $400 on it last week. I called Asus support and was told only level 3 support would have the authority to override the policy and pay for the shipping both ways.
Now I can't decide what to do. Do I pay to ship it to Texas to get fixed, which I think is completely ridiculous? Or do I go to WalMart and return this thing? Does anyone know if I can go to WalMart and exchange it for another one when one comes in stock?
Appreciate any replies!
You'd only be able to return it back to WalMart within 30 days.

if you are within the return period just take it back to walmart and ask for a refund or exchange. Its' not gonna be faster with RMA.
I would return it. My right speaker is dead and I probably will just ship it back to Amazon to avoid the RMA Hassle and expense.
This product seems to have a high (10-20%) defect rate and its ridiculous that Asus makes the customers pay for shipping to Asus especially if they think their competition is really Apple who has the gold standard of customer service.
I'd take it back to the shop and ask for either a swap or a refund, I sure as heck wouldn't want to pay the postage.

Walmart return policy says 15 days

Walmart's return policy for electronics is 15 days.
Welcome to the New World Economy, where retail companies nickel and dime you for every cent they can, even when it is their fault. Unfortunately, this RMA scam is becoming more and more prevalent. Case in point, NewEgg, one of the better companies out there. Their standard policy these days is to make you pay for shipping back to them, even for DOA products. Their position is that 'we didn't make it, so it isn't our fault'. I sent my dock back to them last week, at my expense.
Then I got the refund. I was absolutely horrified to see that they refunded ONLY the cost of the item, without the original shipping costs that I also paid. Holy crapsticks....I went through the roof.
Needless to say, I was in live chat with them immediately, and low-and-behold...they refunded BOTH the original shipping as well as what I paid to ship it back to them, and I only needed to ask.
The point of this? ***** about it. Complain to whomever will listen. You've got a chance of getting it back, whomever the retailer.
I already complained last night to Asus on the phone. I explained to them that it is cheaper for them to pay for my shipping, than to get a refurb back from a retailer.
It is cheaper for me to return it, wait a few weeks, and buy another one.
I don't even care about the money, it would cost less than $10 to ship it back. This is about principle. I just spent $400 on a device, which became totally unusable within less than 2 weeks of owning it. I should not have to pay to ship it back to Asus.
It is becoming very apparent to me how Asus was able to undercut everyone else's ASP for a similar product.

That is all I asked for. I asked for a shipping label to the service center, and Asus said it is their policy not to pay for that.
Does anyone know if WalMart will take a return on an item that doesn't work properly?

Im getting mine rma from newegg too because of the speakers and the popping sound. I emailed them the other day and I got a prepaid ups label. I think if you contact them directly they will give you the label but if you did it the normal way they would make you pay for it.

Do you have any idea how long it will take to get a replacement? I am thinking about sending mine back to Amazon instead of Asus but I think it will take much longer to get a replacement?

I think it depends if amazon has any stock. If they dont you will probably get a refund and you have to find another one.

I think I will just send mine out to Amazon. Looking at the turnaround times, means I will be either getting a repair or refurb by early June anyway. I am sure Amazon will have more in stock on an active basis by early June.
I returned my TF bcoz the one of the speakers stopped working. Guess what, it was the second piece I got as a replacement after returning the first one. Took it back to PC Richards, and they gladly refunded my money back.
Now, I'm thinking if I need to get a TF after a few days, so that I would be able to get a piece from a subsequent production batch, where Asus would fix most of their issues or dump TF and get the Tab 10.1
I was in a similar position. Right out of the box, the screen showed flickering white lines, so I called Asus support. I got the same info: I would have to ship it to Asus at my own expense, and then wait ten to fifteen business days for it to be returned. I think not! I contacted J&R, where I bought the TF, and they provided me with a prepaid UPS shipping label for me to send it back and get a full refund.
Ron
I just returned mine at WalMart for a full refund. I'll be damned if I'm going to spend $400 on a product to last 2 weeks and then pay to get it fixed.
Now I don't even know if I want to order another one due to Asus's pathetic business practices.

Amazon Return Policy

Hey All,
I bought a Maxx off Amazon site on 2/23/2012 and yesterday Verizon had a $100 off any 4G phone. So I decided to take advantage of that offer and return the amazon purchase. I called Amazon and they emailed be a UPS label. I shipped out the phone yesterday and they should receive it within a week. Furthermore, I read amazon return policy on their site and clearly states that I can return the item within 30 days but I would have to cancel the service myself since they dont contact my carrier. So I called Verizon yesterday to cancel the line, however, they declined to cancel it. Stating that once Amazon gets the phone, they will cancel the service themselves. i explained to the rep that Amazon site clearly states they dont cancel account but I would have to cancel it. He put me on hold and came back with the same response. AMazon has to cancel the account once they receive it. In addition, Verizon CS said if I cancel the account with them, Amazon would charge me an ETF fee for removing the phone. I am really confused and dont know what to do. My 14 days to cancel line with Verizon expires on 3/7. I doubt Amazon can cancel my account in a timely matter. Has anyone experienced this??
For sure Amazon may charge restocking fee, right? And you may get charge by Verizon by the used minutes you put on using that phone.
