Swype prediction got bad - Android Apps and Games

I'm not sure if this belongs in this section, or under Droid X apps... However, I've been noticing for a few weeks now that word prediction got REALLY bad. Has anyone else seen this? I have a stock DroidX running Froyo, with Swype 1.64.40.9380. Any recommendations? Texting time probably doubled since maybe 1/3 of the words I enter I have to select the correct one now.

It's been pretty bad for me.
I've tried probably every setting from Fast Response to Error Tolerance and it still can't get it right.
It does make for some funny situations when people get my texts, lol.
What would you recommend changing and setting them to?

Awrr… I noticed that, too, and it drives me crazy.
Swype was awesome but since 2-3 weeks it makes me mad everytime I use it because it doesn't recognize the correct words

i was having that issue a while ago, switched to ultra keyboard (which has the same swipe to text options) and haven't looked back. ultra keyboard is also way more customizeable
it's so refreshing to NOT have a stupid window popping up every 2 seconds

that kinda just blew my mind haha
don't you mean sometime tomorrow?
i was reading about his earlier.. i still think swype could be alot faster and easier to use. It's gonna take quite awhile to get use to all the letters being at weird positions.. i can pretty much type using swype half looking.. with this your eyes are stuck on the keyboard. and imo i like looking at a keyboard more than an X with letters lined up.. kinda tacky UI
doesnt seem good
Oh geez, it already looks complicated and the video doing the demo just made it more confusing. I'll try it out but swype all the way!
I'll give it a go, looks interesting.. Could be a big learning curve though, learning to touch type all over again.
Brilliant ! When you think about it, the keyboard was not designed for mobile devices. There will be a steep learning curve because we have been using the kb for so long but I think it will be much more efficient, faster and less error prone.
I'll definitely give it a try.
ya i love swype too but i will definitely try it. did anyone try messagease?
I am totally converted to SwiftKey but i'll give this one a try too. I like that they've come at the problem from a totally original angle so it has to be worth a bit of time to get used to it.

Hi.
I just got 8pen, and so far I have to say it is an interesting concept. Other than having to relearn where the letters are (they are in no way associated with a traditional keyboard), it is a really easy way to type.
I had to keep lifting my thumb to see where my next letter was, but I think I will get the hang of it soon.
This will be great for guys with big fingers because it just uses gestures, and the user will not have to try to get a finger on a teeny tiny key.
I think they should have had a trial period, though. I did pay the $1.59, a small price to pay for the newest, latest, and (possibly) greatest, but if I don't get the hang of this soon I am going to uninstall. It should not take me a minute and a half to type "how are you".

No sir... but you made me question it. When I downloaded the application, I got an e-mail and shrugged it off as proof of purchase and cleared notification, same with when I uninstalled it. Once you said that, I went back through my gmail and double checked. It appears as though I was not charged.

I know... I forgot the 's' at the end of 'minutes'. I typed that response with 8pen too, it was very aggravating. The worst is the fact that you can't memorize the letters and constantly have to lift your finger in order to see where the heck the next character is!
So I'm using it on the N1 and I cannot understand how to select a letter outside of the first ones (. y i a , e t o). Even doing the tutorial, Step 2: Your First Word...I'm trying to type "you" and it keeps typing "yoo" because I cannot select anything past O
Scratch that...so to anyone else baffled by this, I just figured out you must proceed to another quadrant and then go to the center to get the second letter or more quadrants for other letters.

[Q] Swype?

Hi all,
New to the Android scene. I have an iPhone3gs and am leaning towards the Inspire over the Atrix. Quick noob question. Can Swype be installed on this device?
Yes but
Unless you are rooted (which at least for now looks semi-difficult), you need to sideload it. I haven't had enough posts yet to post an outside link, but you can Google "install swype inspire" and the first hit should get you started.

easiest guide you'll find. Literally took me 5 minutes, and I've never run commands on a computer. Hardest thing was to find a torrent for WinZip lol
@antioch216: Thanks. That was the link I wanted to post!
It's very easy. Didn't take me all that long either. I used the Mac/Linux method and it was easy breezy.
Thanks for the link. One other question. What are your thoughts on Swype vs the stock keyboard? I've never actually used it myself but have heard lots of hype surrounding it.
Thanks!
Swype is really awesome I think. It's really easy to get used to. In my experience you only have to use one finger and it's pretty forgiving in terms of the letters you hit.

Swype is much faster for me once I got used to it.... except when it's messing up. Sometimes the autocorrect is just so bad that it would be faster to send the message in morse code, but that doesn't happen often.

Go here and you can download the beta version of swype to your phone http://www.swypeinc.com/

nope, no root required. I haven't rooted and I just followed the guide and now I've got Swype!
AT&T blocks the ability to download from other sources (sideloading) and so this program is essentially a work around, but doesn't disturb any original settings. So if anything happened to your phone, AT&T wouldn't know unless the employee knew about this stuff.
Just follow the guide, and you'll have Swype, it's pretty easy

I believe every time you reset, you just have to change the input mode. It's just a default setting that isn't changeable to my knowledge. It happens to everyone
On my captivate, using Swype, when I pressed in the text area, I got a little button to move the cursor around. I get the same type little button with the default keyboard on my Inspire. With Swype, though, I get just a cursor, and I have to press and hold to magnify, more like an iphone. Is there any way to change that?

Swype - Any devs want to try to fix this?

I posted on Swype forums a while back about the issue with Swype on this phone. They replied saying the auto space (which im guessing auto capitalization falls in the same catagory) does not work because HTC has made sense reply window treat the data entered by the user as a web address link - because noone wants spaces in their links. I have found that most people say cracking HTC's Sense code is almost impossible but i was wondering if someone could come up with a fix for this.
Whats the problem? Swype seems to work fine for me...

Use the flex T9 that popped up. It's basically swipe made for sense.

If you use Handcent or ChompSMS it works. But yeah, definitely fails on the stock Sense message app.
Using the evo updated version of swype resolves all issues seen in the thunderbolt beta.
Using the evo version here. It just doesn't have the voice icon on the keyboard.

i'm using it now on the thunderbolt and it's autospacing
I've installed and uninstalled this a half dozen times because of similar issues.
Something else I've noticed sporadically is that even when I do get it working properly using Handcent SOMETIMES I have to still manually type. Meaning it makes a trace mark, but the letters never pop up.
Now going to look for the EVO swype.

Yep, EVO swype was the best one that I've found. The only thing I can't get it to do is put the auto punctuation in after you double space. Other than that it works great.
EDIT: What I can't figure out is if the EVO version is nearly perfect...why doesn't Swype just take it and revise it a little? Or, I guess maybe they tried and messed it up even worse?
OP: PM me your email address.

Changing keyboard on inspire

Okay I've searched through the forums kind of half assed but I don't feel like wasting time anyway
I'm displeased with HTC's touch input keyboard and back when I had my captivate I bought smart keyboard pro because I could pretty much choose how big the space bar was cause I have a tendency to hit the period button constantly when I'm typing fast and it annoys the crap out of me I have it installed on my HTC but it won't let me use it or switch keyboards is there some trick I don't know to using a different keyboard? Or is it even possible?

Did you go to keyboard settings and put a check in the box to turn it on?
After that, long press on any text box and choose input method.

Not a great intro for requesting the time of others who HAVE chosen to waste their time learning about their phones.

you should be able to figure it out from there. If you don't see your downloaded/installed keyboard, uninstall and reinstall, rinse, repeat..

I have a tendency to do the same thing with the stock keyboard, hitting the period instead of the space bar. It is because the keyboard is not centered due to the arrow buttons and stock buttons on the right. I have found that sliding my fingers more under the phone with the left hand versus the right hand helps. I've also tried searching for an alternative keyboard, but found nothing I was pleased with. I do like the stock keyboard, with the exception of those arrow buttons on the right, even though I do find them handy at times.

You have to long press in the text input area and select input method and choose your keyboard. Well at least for me on the Unity rom it sticks that way. YMMV on stock or other roms

There are ways and then there are ways to approach a newbie question.... I know, because after more than 10 years as a Windows Mobile user I just switched to my first Android a couple of months ago and browsed here looking for an answer to this very same question. If you have an Inspire (like I do) and, quite surely, got it from AT&T (like I also do), then you'll face the same problem like the guy who started this thread (changing your default keyboard is just NOT an option, aka hidden by the AT&T "geniuses" by default....). But I tried this option quoted above and worked for me. (Thanks, sparker!!) At least till I reboot my phone, I guess....
Again, there's always more than one way to approach a question, regardless how naive it may sound!!
