WTF is Samsung doing...is there an upside???

I don't really care anymore when the official 2.2 update will come out. I'm happy sticking with custom roms until the Motorola Atrix comes out. Hopefully it will live up to the hype. The Captivate is my first and last Samsung cell phone I'll ever buy.

I too am just waiting for the atrix. I've never bought a phone off contact but will be forced too cause I bought the captivate with my upgrade. Its not that I'm totally unhappy with the captivate, just upset that samsung has don't so little to ensure that their "flagship" phone stays up to date. Its too bad too cause it has such great potential.

I agree with all of you. I'm fairly pleased with my custom rom too, but feel like it still could be better if devs had source for the cappy.
Also, my first and last Samsung phone. I'm boycotting them altogether. My next phone Sony or Motorola...CES showed off some good stuff. Next flat screen TV Sony prolly, or maybe an LG; def done with Samsung.
Bastards say still testing but steadily releasing new products with Froyo and even GB.
Gonna have to find the money to break my contract with AT&T cause I'm not paying them an upgrade fee.

Yeah, that's the killer. The SGS line was supposed to be their Flagship Android line for the US...got tons of people on board only to essentially abandoned us to work on new products to trick people in to buying. They can't get us an update for this line but they can put the OS on new products without any problems. Just look at what the devs on this forum have done with a FW that's not even for our device. If they can do it, then surely the makers of the damn line could. I hope they crash and burn, market share wise. It may take a while but if they continue this BS with other lines and products people are eventually going to say f-off.

My next phone is going to be either Motorola or HTC. In fact, I just replaced my Samsung TV with a LG. I am done with Samsung all together.

Cry some more? Even when they come out with it, it will just be stripped and modded and redistributed on the forums. The custom ones will be better than anything Samsung will put out.

No doubt...I don't care about the ROM they release; just that source code so the talented devs on this forum can unleash it. I will never run another stock ROM on ANY Android device, ever. This forum is the bomb!!!!

Like others above this is my last Samsung phone ever. Sucks I wasted my upgrade for this crap.
I do appreciate the developers on this forum though for the custom roms. Thanks again!

This is the exact same conversation that everyone was having in the motorola forums with the backflip cliq and cliq xt. Htc is the only ones that have a reputation good for upgrading their phones, but moto and samsung have the best hardware (imo). Cant beat the screen on this thing and every moto I own has been indestructable. So now I buy the phone with the best hardware and community support. I have come to love flashing my phone with something different all the time, whether it be roms or themes, so I will never again buy a phone on the day of release. I will always wait untill the devs behind xda have a go at the device. Then at that point I could care less about manufacturer upgrades

Lets face it Samsung makes the best hardware, But everything Support Software Updates Sucks harry monkey ****.
I will never get a samsung android phone.

Samsung has been tweeting the same message since the end of December when they knew they would miss the "End of Year" commitment.
But for all those convinced they are evil, go read the forums and blogs for other phones - all manufacturers miss dates, and many times it is due to carrier involvement. The grass always seems greener elsewhere, but the truth is, the same frustrations exist with all vendors.

Then the choice is clear. Generic non carrier phones.

All you guys high on the Moto Atrix, doesnt Moto lock down the phones so you cant root (easily or at all) ? Every manufacturer has their issues. Im hardly a Samsung fan but Id rather have custom ROM's and Galaxy S seems to allow that without much hassle.

I'm not happy with Samsung by any means, but I also remember waiting for a year for the WinMo update for the HTC Tilt 2 and it came from HTC, not AT$T. It's a tricky balance the relationship these companies have. If a new release borks up a significant number of users it could be a customer service nightmare for both companies with each trying to figure out who gets to fix it. That said, it does seem as though Samsung has moved on and is more focused on selling newer phones than taking care of their existing customer base. That's a bad business decision for any company, especially in an industry where product cycles are so short, customer memories are so long and most marketing is by word of mouth and internet forums.

Can I ask why? I have a captivate, flashed froyo on it and i'm loving it. Is it just Samsung that you don't like or theres something wrong with your phone?

Because they made a promise (online and in writing) to provide the Froyo update. My dislike also comes from having had 2 Samsung HDTVs that, while having great pictures, developed problems that were poorly handled by Samsung service. And while you may be happy with your modded phone, we shouldn't HAVE to flash a non-OEM ROM just to enjoy things like a working GPS or enhancements that other users in other countries are able to enjoy.

Maybe you don't like Samsung, but I love them. Awesome screen, great performance, good battery, and well I don't use GPS so honestly I don't care (I would use Network GPS before real GPS anyway).
I will most likely buy the 4.5" Infuse 4G, unless they make a 4.5" windows phone 7 (which I doubt, WP7 has horrible phones).

Just remember that if this has nothing to do with development, you will have failed 100 folds with this community and further tarnish the Samsung name.
I'd rather hear Samsung is on the phone with AT$T pushing for faster updates instead.

If it's that official Captivate Ginberbread was coming I'd skeet skeet skeet, but if it's Official Captivate Froyo I'd just raise my eyebrow - soon enough having 2.2 is going to be like having 1.6 was last June where everyone was slowly getting 2.1 and eagerly waiting for for 2.2 while 2.3 was already on everyones tongues for the must have's for their next phone.
Seriously, after all the recent smartphone announcements I've heard in the past seven months of owning this phone it has got to be real good for me to take a second look at any Samsung device. Samsung and AT&T fooled me once with the BlackJack in 2006 and they've fooled me again with the Galaxy S in 2010, Samsung makes great latest and greatest hardware but once it's out the door it's usually DIY if you want a speedy (as in before half a year or more has passed before Samsung and AT&T decide to put it out) firmware upgrade. At this point I perceive that Samsung will probably put out 2.2 on their own for the Captivate and the other American Galaxy S models just like they did with the BlackJack. Official firmware upgradeable smartphones were a rarity then and with only select Windows Mobile phones doing it but now it's the norm, get with the times or lose your current or potential customers to HTC and Motorola!
Manufacturers/carriers really need to start giving out at least a one year up to date guarantee for updates especially if the hardware is fully capable, and the Galaxy S series has enough umph to go at least two years on the hardware side so ATT/Samsung better not pull an EOL and discontinue support right at July for this almost wonderful phone!!!

"Hey I know that your phone hasn't been updated so why don't you just buy our nexus s it will be on att in the next couple of months is running 2.3 and you should (crosses fingers) get an update for it soon after the next google firmware update. Oh and it'll only cost you about $700 or more dollars." Or is it "we will be pushing 2.2 to your phones; however you will have to pay $X for it" im sorry but I am so fed up with att and samsung. I love my captivate but that's thanks to all the devs here. But ill wait and to see what the next disappointment a big coroeration can try and serve to me on a silver platter

The only thing, and I mean the ONLY thing that will get Samsung off of my ****-list is a lag-free, gps-working, Gingerbread ROM.
Had they delivered in November like they promised, a lag-free, gps-working, Froyo ROM would have been enough.
But the penalty for waiting until god damn March is that Froyo is no longer acceptable.

I am really hoping that this is gonna be gingerbread, I will not get my hopes up however. I hope this is for real because otherwise this is my very last Samsung phone. The only thing that I really love is the screen.

i highly doubt its official gingerbread, i would scream like a girl if it was tho. kernel source maybe? or, a sort of xda - samsung exchange, in where samsung might port over the codes and allow official OTA to go over as a beta program.

I think at this point it would have to be official Gingerbread + an HSPA+ modem + greatly improved GPS to cause me to seriously reconsider complaining to AT&T until they let me upgrade to an Inspire.
Not that I have any grudge against Samsung; I love the Captivate from a raw hardware standpoint, and the screen is still incomparable (until SAMOLED+, that is), but after getting lost because of the GPS tracking issues more than once, and several close calls with random shutdowns at night culminating in having to actually drag out an old clock radio, I simply can't rely on the thing to do its job.

Why would Samsung need to talk to XDA before releasing an announcement? Doesn't sound like a Gingerbread announcement. Which means I'll continue to be disappointed.

That sounds right to me. Just announcing something like GB for Captivate would be a huge win for Samsung's damaged brand. Why would they share that PR spotlight with XDA?
Seems like more hype to me. I do honestly hope they prove me wrong though...

I'd wait for the next round of phones that are coming out. I'd actually pass on the Atrix, simply because Motorola insists on giving it to us with an encrypted bootloader.

I would definitely not get a Captivate. given that new phones are coming out.
I would even tell myself back in September not to get a Captivate and wait for the phones that are coming out now, it's that bad.
Samsung basically stuck us with 2.1 (unless you do a custom ROM) and more or less once they sell you a phone kiss you goodbye for support for it etc.
Oh yeah, and if a phone has been known to have GPS issues, and you read an official Samsung tweet that their new update fixed GPS, don't believe it.
Stay away from anything Samsung.

Ya, I love this phone, its bad ass. But if you're looking to trade up, give it a little time and wait, this one age hardware wise pretty soon with the new ones coming out.

X10 is not a bad phone to hold on to until something you really like is released. Fyi - I love my captivate. Just disappointed in samsung. With custom roms this phone is great, imo.

Given the state of [smart]mobile devices today, what can you really say "I'm gonna wait for ____ phone to come out and be content"?
Sure, if you're in the market for a new device you can ALWAYS say "wait for the next round", but the truth of the matter is that there aren't a lot of devices that will be relevant for 10 months. This was one of the things I sat on for months prior to actually buying the Captivate.......mobile providers don't expect you to keep your device for the full 2 years.
I would definitely NOT get a Captivate unless you plan on rooting. That being said, if you don't want to root your phone, if you just plan on living an a stock environment, why don't you just get an iPhone? I mean, what is the point of having an open-source device if you never take advantage of it?
When I was running the stock Captivate it was horrible and I would've killed someone by now if I was waiting on the carrier or manufacturer to feed me (updates). Unfortunately, that is the world we live in. I must say that (I rooted the device within a week of my purchase), I wouldn't trade my Cap in for anything else right now, not even the Atrix. It is more than capable and this is my first Android device, so its not like I'm an experienced ROM loader. I don't have any issues with GPS, calls are fine, I can clock at over 1500 running Firebird2 and Cognition 2.3 (running FroYo). The only "issue" I have is some legacy mp3's won't play (that apparently no one else has this issue) and I'm rather disappointed in the quality of the speaker (after running a few sound amplifier apps).

Skip the Captivate. If you like the sony ericsson phones, wait for the x12's. They're supposed to be out in late March/early April and they look pretty nice.

When getting an Atrix, it's cheaper to get the phone + computer combo. But why get it if you already have a laptop or tablet? great specs but I would wait a little longer for the next wave of phones.

From what I have seen in researching the Atrix is that if you want the "laptop" dock you MUST pay for the Data Pro with Tether add-on. Otherwise you can pay the $499 just for the dock later on and will not be required to add tethering.
My problem with this setup and fee structure is that the dock is not a separate PC that uses the Atrix as an AP or external modem. You cannot use it without the Atrix docked because what you see on the screen is being generated by the phone. So what are you really tethering? Not the laptop since you are still browsing with the phone, just with an external monitor and keyboard... WTF? Do they think we are that stupid?

I'd pass on the captivate.....the atrix comes out tomorrow and the inspire is available now.....I'd get one of those before I'd get the captivate....the inspire is insanely fast and smooth and offers the Sense experience, which is great.....and the atrix is insanely powerful.

I have a love/hate relationship with my phone.
Stock ROM is "ancient" now - and AT&T has delayed any software updates for over 6 mos. now.
Plagued with hardware issues - random shutdowns, sleeping death, charge death, corrupt internal SD Cards, and of course a non-working GPS/Compass.
To make this phone work as intended you will "HAVE" to run a custom ROM to get all of the features - that should have worked out of the box mind you - to work properly.
And.. just a personal peeve - the plastic is slick - so I would suggest getting a case. Otherwise it's like holding a greased pig.
But on the positive - the screen is gorgeous, battery life is decent, and once you get it up and running its a great device.
So... uh no I wouldn't suggest getting a Captivate.

The stock Cap is not good at all. But those haven't rooted and flashed custom Roms are missing the boat. The custom ROMS are easy to flash and open up a whole new side to the Captivate!
Mine with the kick butt Paragon rom will run rings around an iphone any day. I've had them side by side.

The new Sonys will be even slower than the old Samsungs, and with less nice screens to boot.
Better camera, but who cares?
Get the Atrix (out tomorrow) or wait for the SGS2 -- Super AMOLED+ dual-core with (likely) unencrypted bootloader. Hopefully the US will get Tegra2 versions for better custom kernel development.

Yeah I think it's all backwards. The laptop dock can't be used without the Atrix which already makes it useless most of the time. That's why I was saying you might as well get a tablet. Why use a "laptop" running off a device that is suppose to be portable. That is what a real laptop is for.

Haha yeah just get a tablet / netbook / laptop instead of that atrix laptop dock.
Anyway, I think you should just wait 'till better phones are released. But if you can't, then yeah get the captivate but be prepared to void your warranty.

Honestly, like every one has said, it depends of if you plan to run stock or not. This is my first time to root a phone and I will never go back to stock again. My cappy is super fast and does everything I could ever want. My old 3g is comparable to a pager now.
But if you want to run stock, the captivate is DEFINATELY not for you. It took me about three days to decide that 2.1 just wouldn't cut it and start doing the research about rooting and flashing.
It is a very capable phone if you're willing to put some time into it.

Your Samsung Infuse experience? why the infuse & what will your next phone be?

I remember summer of 2011 when I bought this phone. I'd previously owned a couple of windows phones but took them back because a) nothing seemed to work, and b) nothing that didn't work seemed to be fixable. c) things that did work didn't work very well.
I bought an infuse 4g and my wife got an atrix 4g. (I'd considered the atrix as well, but heard stories of bricking and overheating... and moto's webtop strategy looked pretty half baked.)
I was on AT&T and decided to stick with them. The only other real android option at the time was the HTC inspire, which I didn't really like. I also considered the iPhone, but my experience with running itunes on a PC and using a 30gb ipod really soured me on Apple at least for a while.
Really why i opted for the Infuse boiled down to Samsung's promise to update phones for 18 months (didn't happen obviously) and the hackability. Samsung phones seemed easiest to hack in case support ever ran out and something needed fixing.
I waited patiently for gingerbread. When it took forever I found XDA and ran zeus 5.2 for months. Even with a few minor battery glitches and the very rare force close or reboot it was much nicer than stock FroYo. Then I tried CM9, which almost feels finished, but battery issues and random reboots seem to get worse over time and require reflashing. Then on to a couple other roms and now CM10. I do love the bells and whistles of CM10, but it does feel like it might just be too much for our outdated hardware.
Maybe I'd be better off had i never discovered XDA, because I've wasted more than a few hours backing up, flashing, re-installing apps, etc. :laugh:
I suppose when it comes right down to it, I'm not sure I've ever been 100% happy with my infuse, but my wife on the other hand is at least 99% unhappy with her atrix 99% of the time. That phone really is bordering on terrible, even the higher res display always looks grainier.
Now it's almost 2013 and I'm sure those of us on contracts will be moving on to something else in the next few months.
Phones with 2gb of RAM running jellybean sure look nice, and it looks like google is going to have a much more comprehensive nexus program.
i use a lot of google services for work and also have a nexus7, so I'm probably stuck with android for the long haul, but to be honest every glitzy new Android phone from a Carrier just looks like something that will be the next months forgotten red headed stepchild left for dead and never updated again after heavy promotion.

In the beginning of Dec 2011, no-one in my family had smartphones.
Then my wife decided we needed to outfit the entire family of five with smartphones for Xmas.
Faced with purchase of 5 phones, we looked only at the ones that were “free” (if you want to call a 2-year contract free..).
Infuse had much better hardware than iPhone 3 which was offered free at the time IIRC
It was also the biggest and baddest of the offered free ATT Android phones at the time.
Pantech Crossover was one of the only other free ATT Android choice at the time...'nuff said (doesn't hold a candle to our beloved i997)
Today, everyone else in my family is stil on stock Froyo. I moved to on rooted Gingerbread stock which I think makes me look really adventurous and with-it in their eyes (you have my permision to LOL). I haven’t ever used anything else except briefly trying a few custom GB ROMs.
I’m very happy with my phone and OS. I have a hard time imagining what it is that I’m missing because I haven’t seen what other phones/operating systems have to offer. I use my phone for a lot of things and spend a lot of time exploring the apps available on my current OS, but I don’t foresee upgrading my os again in the near future... perhaps not until the next phone in Dec 2013. Maybe if all my friends had SG3’s and Notes running JB and CM10, then I’d start being unhappy with what I've got. But I’ve got my Froyo family and most of my friends are iphoners.
Maybe if you want to be happy with your Infuse, you should surround yourself with people who use Froyo

I've loved my infuse. I was dying for a smartphone for a year lol hyping over the release of the iPhone 4. Then I saw on cnet the leak of the infuse. I decided I needed that phone lol. I got the infuse the day it came out, it was soo much fun. Then maybe 4-5 months later I found on some website how to flash Gtg's over lock kernel, starting my hacking journey. Used android forums, when I guy recommended xda. Switched to xda, and it's been really nice. Lol idk what my next phone will be, I picked up a iPhone 4S from my friend for a small price to pay (he wanted a tmobile concord, to replace his tmobile phone and he is a noob lol, never unlocked the 4s.) but I'm looking at the Optimus g, one x+, or the gnote 2, I was thinking of selling this 4s to get one, but it's really starting to grow on me, and I've invested enough mods in it I may just keep it forever . I used to be a die hard android fan, but really you have to look at the good and bad things about each operating system, like android moving files and easy hacking, or ease of use, no hang ups, and just plain simple to use. Being honest, the 4s was probably good for me to get, I was spending too much time of my life trying to develop/hack, while I've been letting some schoolwork slip by... Haha. Still love and use my infuse though, not going to let that go, my friend was like ill buy it from you for 300-350, I said no! I love my infuse. It's just an awesome phone, even better it was my first smartphone lol.

I'm not sure that you can throw anything at the Infuse that it can't handle!!!
I am running AOKP JB and its soooo much smoother than ICS ever thought about being. You owe it to yourself to try a JB ROM before you get rid of a perfectly functional phone.

My Infuse was my first Android phone and have actually have zero complaints.. no matter my noobish adventures, if something went wrong I was able to get it back and working again.. (with the help of the amazing community here) so it was a perfect introduction for me..
I moved to the note a couple weeks ago and don't even have my Infuse anymore, but I still read the infuse forum everyday..

My wife was the first to get a smartphone, the iPhone 3GS, she loved it and I was jealous. I was stuck with a dumbphone and wanted to upgrade. Did my research and at the time (Oct '11), the Infuse seemed to be the logical choice. It combined all of the features I wanted in my new phone. I got it, loved it, and it was much bigger and better than my wife's iCrap. I had it for months without doing anything to it. Then I had just gotten the GB update from Samsung, so I was happy with them and my "new" phone. It ran great with GB, but it left me wanting more. I came to XDA and got started. I started with GB ROMs and the one I used was awesome and very stable. I still wanted more. Made the switch to JB. I loved the way it looked but the ROMs I tried were not very stable. I kept going back and forth from GB to JB to GB. I had a list of features I needed the devs to work out for JB for me to stay with it. Once those feature were added/stabilized, I made the permanent switch. I now run the ParanoidAndroid ROM from Scott Hart. He works tirelessly for the Infuse and we appreciate him for it.
For a while after a stated flashing, my wife was insanely jealous over my Infuse as compared to her POS 3GS. It was bigger, faster and ran newer software. She couldn't wait for the 5 to come out. I lobbied her to switch to an Android, but she was still loyal to the fruit. About a month before the 5 came out, she lost her 3GS. Without a phone, she asked me what she should do. I offered her one of our older spare backup phones. She didn't want that. She said let's go get the best one I can. Which was the Galaxy S3. Within an hour or two, she had forgotten all about Apple and was now fully a member of the Android community. She even wants me to root it soon! Even though it's an American company, and I should support it, Apple is so inflexible that it feels great to convert another one over to the dark side!
I am due for my upgrade in February, and I'm gonna wait for the Galaxy S4. I need quad core and at least 2GB of RAM or I'm just gonna keep my Infuse.

Let's see, before I had my Infuse I had these smartphones:
* Motorola 9qe that I flashed to make a 9qh. ((Windows Mobile 6.0)
* HTC Kaiser, (Windows Mobile 6.1)
* HTC Touch Pro 2, (Windows Mobile 6.5)
When I first heard of android, and learned that it was based on Linux, my initial thoughts were along the line of "Yeah, lets bring Linux to the phone because it's been SO successful on the desktop. NOT!!! This is going to be the biggest bust ever." I was wrong.
I switched to Android because out of all the user reviews that I read regarding Windows Phone 7 seemed to give only negative reviews, and it just seemed to suck. I decided that WM 6.5 was the last version of Windows Mobile that I would ever use, and decided to switch to Android because I don't really like PALM, and I hate Crapple products.
I bouught the Infuse because it was on sale for $9.95, and was running Android 2.2.3, (I think it was Froyo). No other reason for the initial purchase, as the Infuse is my first Android device. My next phone will likely be a Samsung Note, (or whatever is on sale next july).

I'm a Mac person for the most part. I've been using Macs since OS9 and don't see that changing in the near future (although I do like some Linux distros). However I'm not a fan of the walled garden model that everyone, including Google, is chasing right now, especially Apple's increasingly closed hardware. Seriously, you can't even change your own battery now! The iPhone and iPad represent the worst of these tendencies and for that reason, I've never wanted one. I knew I wanted an Android phone, but didn't know much about them. Basically, the Infuse was on sale, recommended, and looked nice.
It's not been easy. There are so many terrible guides out there on Android/Mac compatibility, I've wasted a lot of time and money trying to get my phone to work with my computer the way I want it to. It's all good now! I really appreciate the Android dev community and for that reason I'll stick with Android. I'll probably get another Samsung phone since I tend to like their designs and because I like how much they bother Apple!

I think Google will only chase this to an extent. Openness has it's appeal, and I think androids source code will always be open, even though 3rd parties like amazon will put pressure on it. I like what I'm hearing about google's new nexus strategy. I'd really prefer stock android of any manufacturer skin at this point. I have a nexus 7 and didn't even bother to root it.
4.2 or whatever they are calling it looks like manufactuers skins will only be a theme which can be easily removed, and of course after ICS you can disable any crapware you don't use.
While it might close android a bit, google needs to do something so that we are not always wading through manufacturer/carrier finger pointing for updates.
Android does have a weakness in apps. iOS still has more, but the quantity is not so much the problem as quality. Earlier this year I think Google finally laid down some solid guidelines for best practices for developers, but still many developers don't follow them. The menu button on my N7 for example. sometimes it's up at the top, sometimes it's down below with the soft keys.
Apple is obviously far more strict. Even so it has not seemed to hinder development at all. There's always jailbreak, and if I were to ever buy an iphone i'd do that ASAP if for nothing else other than widgets.
For Samsung I do really think they've dialed in their product line much better. Having one phone instead of a bunch of custom phones for carriers is a big deal. They no longer seem to take the shotgun approach. There's a big distinction between the note and the GS3, and they seem to be committed to releasing a new version once a year which avoids the option anxiety/paradox of choice we've had in the past. I'd guess that would make updates easier and more streamlined.
It also doesn't leave us feeling burned when you buy a brand new phone and 2 months later the newer better version is on the shelf. I suppose that's my one gripe about the infuse. It was a big deal for about two months. Samsung made promises and broke them almost immediately.
I do still love the display and form factor though. Although when i first got it i actually almost felt self conscious answering phone calls on it because it was so huge. Just a year later it's average if not slightly below average for phone size though.

I got my Infuse in January after washing my previous non-smart phone in the wash. I've been addicted to Android ever since! :victory:

Got my Infuse in August of 2011. For 4 years previous to that, I was using an LG Chocolate dumb phone on Verizon. I was sick of Verizon's prices, and knew I wanted to go Android but refused to get a Motorola (have had nothing but poor experiences with them in the past) so I went to the AT&T store to play with their phones. Ended up walking out with an Infuse that day.
Since then, my time with the Infuse has been sorta bittersweet. I can't see myself ever purchasing anything but a Samsung Android (hey! I actually like Touchwiz), but if I could do it over again I think I would've gone for the Galaxy S2. While GB ROMs were great for my phone, the jump to ICS and now JB has presented some annoying problems. Most notably is the Android OS battery drain bug, which always seems to attack my phone when I most need it on the go. It never happens at home on Wifi, but it ALWAYS seems to happen when I switch over to data when I'm leaving my house. Needing your phone for a 2 hour drive, and having it die in 45 minutes is NOT cool.
Problem is, I enjoy the added functionality of JB, so going back to GB isn't really an option. I don't necessary share the same opinion as other people that JB runs flawlessly on our 512MB of RAM. While it is smooth 99% of the time, those times when it isn't smooth seem to really cripple the phone. And, like I said before, the Android OS drain bug is really annoying. I like to reboot my phone every morning, and I never know if the drain bug is going to present itself after reboot. It's like Russian roulette.
So, while my experience with my Infuse has been pretty good, I definitely won't be sad to move on from it when the time is right. If Google can offer the Nexus 4 unlocked at a decent price, that might be where I go, unless I can find a Note 2 or S3 at a decent price.

Infuse is a great phone. It was my first android phone, and I really had no issues. I've been flashing lots of roms but I'm running Zeus 5.2 for couple of months now because It has best battery life plus It is error-free (No SOD, No dropping signal, mms etc). I like ICS and JB but I really want everything to work perfectly. And I already have Samsung Galaxy tab 2 running CM10...
One real problem I had with infuse... is that if you see other phones less than 4.5" I have problems lolzz.
I still have about 8 months before my 2 year contract is up so I'm still gonna enjoy it for a while.
I'm thinking of changing it to whatever they have the best (probably Note 2 or S 4).

I got my infuse about 2 weeks after it came out i wanted it because i was moving away from blackberry. I didnt like iphones and wanted an android because of all the things you can do. It was a 4.5 inch screen at the time the first screen that big and i just wanted it. my experience has been good at fist i had to get use to the size of the phone and it being touch now om bored i hate it and i want a new phone. My next phone will be the galaxy note 2 i was thinking about the galaxy s3 but changed my mind bigger screen quad and lte yay.

If I'm going to change my smartphone I will be buy Samsung S II.

the infuse will back up my note2 on tmob. it was a damn good phone!well still is realy,but 5gbs and 100 mins for 30$ is good enough for me,just need to root and use an app for the wifi calling.now i just need wendsday to get here!!!!!!!!!!!!

At the time, I was looking at the Atrix, Infuse and Inspire. I originally got the Inspire but didn't care for the sound quality so, I got the Infuse. The screen was what attracted me to the Infuse. I would have like my next phone to have been a Nexus device. But with the lack of an SD slot, I don't think it will be the Nexus 4. Yes, Google probably wants folks to use their cloud services but the lack of an SD simply doesn't make sense to me.

The Infuse was handed down to me so it was not really my choice.
I initially hated it with the stock Froyo. It was too unstable. OS would get corrupted and I would have to reflash. As a result I would lose all my bookmarks and contacts. I would have to add these back manually. The bluetooth was also unusable.
Now I am on JB and it is a completely different phone. I realized it was the OS that was bad and not the phone. Everything works great: Phone, WiFi, music, GPS and bluetooth. Some people have issues with battery drain with 3G. I don't have a data plan and don't need one. I am near a WiFi connection for most of my day. I like the fact that I can sync my contacts and bookmarks to my google account.
I am not sure of my next phone. It would be a dual core GSM phone (not CDMA). Other than that I have not given it much thought.

What really sucks is not being able to have everything in one ROM. I'm not saying it's the devs fault, but it just sucks. If I want a full working phone I have to dual boot and I just don't want to have to have my messages on a different ROM. If someone calls you and you don't know they did how are you to respond?
And on the other end using a Jellybean/ICS ROM which I currently am, you can't record or use HWA, and it's buggy. If you want full functionality, you have to use Gingerbread which sucks because it is very outdated and 1/3 of my apps won't even be able to be installed on my phone if I use it. Not only that but the rest won't have a much functionality.

It really sucks having a G2x.. it had great potential and was just abandoned.. LG should legit give refunds to everyone who bought them because people with the G2x are sacrificing functionality or using the best Android version. Anyone else agree? (I know it would never happen, but still.. I have to use this phone for another 7+ months before I get an upgrade in which I'll grab the iPhone 5S and stop with the fragmentation)

Just get a Nexus. We all wish LG had done somethings differently, (Release the ICS update for the P999), but we can't do anything now. I wouldn't ever by another phone made and supported by LG, however if it is a Nexus and has software updates issues by Google themselves, then I would. This Nexus 4 is amazing and is one of, if not, the best phone you can buy currently for it's price.

Android phones were designed for people who love tweeking, if you want a phone you never have to modify or have to worry about updates or fixes, get an iphone, its very noob friendly, even my mom can use her iphone with great success.

The problem is when manufacturer's pack in a whole bunch of completely proprietary hardware into a phone, then they stop developing for it and releasing drivers. Couple that with jerkwad carriers that force locked bootloaders and other restrictions, and it makes the whole situation stink. I have an LG Spectrum 2, it is a very, very good phone. But I'll be stuck on ICS until the end of time because the carrier, and the manufacturer, have no consideration for support after the sale.
These devices are computers that can make phone calls, I've yet to see an actual computer whose software couldn't be modified or replaced.
At least Apple allows every device to upgrade to the latest version (within reason).

Apples are built with an entirely different philosophy, when you buy their product you are cradled with software and design support at the expense of having no freedom with the device whatsoever. Android, and essentially linux which is its base, whole purpose in life is customization, especially on the user end, hence why open source support is so huge for android phones. You are right though, jerkwad carriers and proprietary hardware take alot of the fun out of all of it for the expense of profits, thats why I love the fact that google came out with the nexus line of unlocked phones, its basically a jab at all the carriers and their proprietary phones and software saying, we can do whatever we want, because its our right to, we designed it.

At this point it seems like android was made for people that will pay top dollar for unfinished products.
Excuse me and other sensible people for wanting a fully working device. My iPhone 2g and 3g both worked and I could still modify them quite a bit. Even my sister's galaxy nexus had big mms problems that Google never fixed.

I too swore never to buy another LG device and silly me I got a Nexus 4....
I still cling onto my G2X and use it as media device. I have DROID TV and have like over 20gigs of shows I need to watch and finish. Also I connect my phone to my TV and watch it there. Don't use it much as a phone. Mainly because whenever I watch my shows it would interrupt and got very annoying.
I still love my G2X. Right size, great screen, never needed screen protector. Battery is terrible and Nexus 4 is just as bad, I mean could be better but isn't.
But who's to blame. Honestly, if CM10.1 gets calling ability and work I'll come right back to this device. Main reason I don't sell it or dump the phone is because I paid full retail price for it and still refuse to accept the loss. Because thats what this phone has been. A loss. I mean seriously.

Nexus 4 really that bad? Unlocked and off contract for $350 is a steal in my opinion. That's only $100 more than a used galaxy Nexus.

Eh, I decided to get the new One from HTC. It just had too much promotion to not get it. I love the G2x, great build quality for sure. I was able to get the One for $99 by switching to Sprint, and I decided to go ahead and send in the ol' G2x to (hopefully) receive the $100 gift card. So, essentially I payed next to nothing for the phone itself, but I will have to eat the cost of cancelling my T-mo account a few months early, but I'll also be able to get a discount on the plan because of corporate discount through work. It was just too enticing not to go for it. I know it's not a Nexus, but I am positive the hardware will be more than capable enough to run several more Android versions in the future. I believe the G2x just won't be able to handle much more than jelly bean. I think it's mostly the lack of ram, but I'm going to remain subscribed to this forum and check back on occasion. If it goes past jelly bean, I won't be surprised if those future versions will be running barebones/ultra slimmed down versions. I also have an old school G1 still, but bricked it trying to get the system to see SD card as usable ram to upgrade. Still wish I could get that thing to work...

I might be picking up a Galaxy Nexus dirt cheap to tide me over till my upgrade.
Although, I really don't have anu bad blood with my G2x.
First smart phone, does everything I need it to do, and I've only ran into a couple games that won't run on my G2x due to being pre-4.0.x OS, and I just play them on my tablet running BakedBean 4.1.2. Still a good phone for me after 15 months. Solid build, I don't care too much it doesn't have ICS/JB, with 512MB total, and after carveout for GPU, sitting at <400MB, the experience of ICS/JB on this device isn't going to be anything stellar over GB as GB didn't have as large as memory usage requirements as ICS/JB.
Just saying, does it really, really matter that much guys?

Yeah, I agree with the most of the people here regarding software updates between iOS and Android and I honestly LOVE android, but the software updates are slow.. if Google could fix up the fragmentation, they would be closer to #1 on my list. The only other complaint is apps in the Google Play but that's not really a big issue. I'm glad at least I wasn't the only one who was having problem with my G2x.

I have only been introduced to the world of android rooting and Modding for the last month. This is my first smart phone. I got bored of it and found this website. Read about the advantages to rooting and flashing roms for a few weeks and finally did it. I'm more than satisfied with how my device is performing compared to stock. It's faster, better looking, and just plain more fun to use. I would love to see a fully working ics rom though. I love the interface and crisp feel.

Blaming LG is only partially right. It's primarily from being on a crap AWS carrier like t-mo, wind, etc. The p990 got it's update, no reason p999 wouldn't with just a few tweaks except they didn't even care that much. Anyways, blame is on the carrier. Keep in mind buying your next phone.
