I was reading about Verizon working on simultaneous voice and data technology in preparation for the iPhone. Would that also allow us to send and receive text messages at the same time (instead of sent messages stalling and failing when receiving one)? This has always bugged me when texting multiple people.

I have had verizon for 10 years and never had an issue with this on multiple platforms (BlackBerry, Android) and am not sure if this is an issue with the iPhone? Verizons network has been pretty solid with handling messages for me.
Hope this answer helpful

I have only ever had Verizon, and this happened to me on countless "dumbphones", Blackberry, Windows Mobile, and now Android. A message will just say sending for a lengthy amount of time, then fail, immediately followed by a received message. Surely someone knows what I'm talking about, or I've had the worst luck ever lol.

I've been using google voice for my text messaging. I've noticed that my standard SMS with ATT is not working for some reason.
I thought it was google voices fault, but my friends vibrant seems okay with both. Is there something wrong with the number I use to retrieve my text messages? It is

Hey,
I was having the same problem and apparently AT&T fails in more ways than imagined.
When I upgraded my phone, they cancelled my messaging package. After logging into the website and adding Text Messaging as a feature for my phone, it started working. This may be the problem you're having.
Good luck!
+1 on SMS issue last to days I haven't been able to receive all my messages even after I clear all threads out. That is without Google Voice.
I can send and receive messages fine, with the exception of two people who apparently haven't been getting my texts. One of them is my wife that is on my family plan. I guess I should check if they fudged something up with her texting.
My girl friend on my family plan with me (who has an iPhone 3Gs) and myself are also having text issues. Some of my texts to her do not arrive, and nearly all of her text to me never reach me. I receive about 1 in 5 texts from her, and she gets about 3 in 5 from me.
The rest of her texts work just fine, and I'm learning today that about half of my texts from other people are apparently not arriving to me as well.
This is obviously *really* bad... it led to her thinking I was blowing her off all day sunday and took a lot of explaining to do on my behalf today, heh.
So I have my account set up to text me when my bill is ready.
Otherwise, I don't have texting as part of my plan.
I keep getting text messages from random numbers - no, I don't give out my number. I don't do phone calls or texts other then T-mo incoming for billing.
How do I block all but carrier texts?
If no easy solution presents itself then i'll just remove texting capabilities from my ROM.
I won't pay T-mo to block texts, i'll either do one of two things:
-eliminate the phones ability to receive them
This is an easy fix, but I lose my billing messages and I have trouble keeping track of my place in time, so they are helpful. This is a defensive mechanism.
-Devise an offensive solution. I have a few ideas, but nothing i'm willing to pursue at this time. Lacking other options I may.
Any help from the community out there?
I'm pretty new to the whole texting/cellular bit and this part is making me want to smash my phone. I just started a new job and it takes a lot out of me, leaves me spent and wasted at the end of my shift.
I almost just threw the damn phone out my car window on the way home, i'm easily frustrated after my shift is over and if my window was down it wouldn't have bounced back into my car this morning.
Edit:
An app solution is not the answer, not even being considered. I won't increase the overhead on the device to solve this problem, and if that's the only answer then it's either remove texting capabilities completely or be done with cell phones as a whole.

That's weird, same thing happened to me a while back when I gave my number to my college, i kept getting random calls all the time, the only way i fixed it was to change my number.

I'm pretty sure if you call tmobile, they will just block them from your plan entirely. I believe I did the same when I didn't have texting on tmobile. Similarly, I have AT&T block my data so I don't use any mobile data. I lose my picture messaging in the process, but it's much less of a headache than getting extraneous data charges removed every month...
For someone who types so much, I'm suprised you don't have texting blue
Very simple solution - login to your account on tmobile website, goto change services section and you would see a Block all chargeable messages option. It's FREE!

Interesting - I called CS and they said I would cost some dollar amount per month to block texts.
Wouldn't be the first time wires got crossed there, I'll check into the web portal next time I log in.

Okay, that was worth crawling out of bed for.
I found it in the website under my plan options.
Hopefully it works.

Well, posting I can type at my leisure, and this place exists to me when it's convenient for me.
Text messages get sent to my phone at the most inopportune times. I'm either trying to work on something for development, or like now I was trying to get some sleep. Volume turned up because I have to wake up in two hours and get my day started, but i've been trying to sleep for the last 3 unsuccessfully due in part to a barrage of BS text messages from who knows who. Random that has nothing to do with me.
Also, posting here doesn't cost me any extra per post unlike the texting part that does.
I'm just aggravated at the moment, and prone to solve problems with extreme solutions that provide final and irrevocable resolution.
I hate texts too, I think I signed up for the minimal number you can get, just because I have some friends who seem to only communicate via text. But, if you turn off all texts, you can still get a bill reminder sent to you via e-mail.
Am I right that this issue is due to the annoyance factor and not to the charging factor? I don't know how tmo bills SMS, but here in Canada, there are a couple of service providers that charge good money for INCOMING SMS messages (IMO complete fraud since you can't control somebody else sending them).
If it IS due to the money factor, then there is nothing you can do at the handset level to stop the money flowing out of your account, since they are billed at the network level.
If due to the annoyance factor, best option would be to modify the MMS application to add in a screening feature.
ALTERNATIVELY, there is a setting in the MMS application to disable NOTIFICATIONS (however, this would also block notifications for billing messages).
If you can get tmo to send billing info to your EMAIL instead, that should negate the need for SMS/MMS notifications. In this way, SMS messages will accumulate in the SMS application, but it won't pester you with notifications about it.
Thanks for the responses.
Haven't had a problem with it from people since blocking text messages in t-mo 'my account' settings on the website.
Now I have an issue with T-mo sending me a notification text message daily about taking advantage of some thing because of my insurance.
Gonna have to call customer service and see what I can do about that, because I really want to keep the billing notification.
Modifying the sms app on the device has crossed my mind, but with how much work I've got going on right now I just don't have the time to look into even something that small for dev.
Once I get on the road and start travelling for my new job I'll have a lot more time, but leading up to that I need to get as much cash on hand as possible to account for hotels and travel costs until I can get myself into the re-imbursement cycle.

Hey guys. I'm using hangouts but this happens with any SMS program. My phone vibrates as if I received a text, but the text never appears. Ex: earlier my girlfriend texted me, the phone vibrated, but I never saw the text and it's not there.
I've tried updating PRL and Profile, switching sms programs, everything I can think of. Is anyone else having this problem.
Using Cataclysm btw.

Try deleting all sms apps, except ie. Hangouts. Make sure Hangouts is configured to receive textmessages. Send a message to your phone and check which app gives you a notification.
You can also try sms backup and restore app to see if there are any textmessages on your phone.
Tried all that but thanks! Just did the backup and there's no messages that aren't in my sms program. Frustrating
Has anyone else had this problem occur?

question: are most of the texts you look to receive, coming from apple iphones?
Apple's Revenge: iMessage Might Eat Your Texts If You Switch To Android
"When my best friend upgraded from an iPhone 4S to a Galaxy S4, I texted her hello. Unfortunately, she didn't get that text, nor any of the five I sent in the following three days. My iPhone didn't realize she was now an Android user and sent all my texts via iMessage. It wasn't until she called me about going to brunch that I realized she wasn't getting my text messages. What I thought was just a minor bug is actually a much larger problem. One that, apparently, Apple has no idea how to fix. Apple said the company is aware of the situation, but it's not sure how to solve it. One Apple support person said: 'This is a problem a lot of people are facing. The engineering team is working on it but is apparently clueless as to how to fix it. There are no reliable solutions right now — for some people the standard fixes work immediately; many others are in my boat.'"
No, no one this is happening with has an iPhone or ever did. All pure android accounts. And I sure as heck never had an iPhone
Try it with another SIM card in your phone and put your card in another phone, heck, just switch cards with your girlfriend's phone and see what happens
For some reason I am not receiving all text messages . Random texts will not show up on my phone even though they show sent on the other person's phone. Getting frustrating bc I have missed some important texts. I googled the problem and it there was an article from 2 days ago about the issue without a fix available. FYI I am on the TMobile Galaxy S8+ ....anyone else experience this issue? Anyone know of a fix?
i doubt its the phone its probably a bug on your account from tmo
We need to get this to thread going. It's a big discussion topic on Reddit and articles are showing up on Android sites.
I'm with Telus in Canada. I've been using the Android Messages app. I have no idea how many texts I'm not getting but there's one friend who's asked me a couple of times if I got their text and I've said no. I've seen screenshots from them that show the texts they sent. That person actually uses an S7 with default Samsung Messages app.
There's another case today where my kid's school sends messages to parents via both text and email. I always get their messages twice. Once via text, the other via email. Today I only got an email message, so clearly it's not just texts from one person not getting through.
Just received some texts from two days ago. Not all texts, but the last few that never showed up. Maybe something is getting fixed?
As of yesterday I still have been missing some texts daily
Did you recently switch from iPhone? Sometimes iMessage messes up senders that use an iphone, and you wont get it.
On the flipside, though, there does seem to be an issue with texting anyways, or MMS. Like the videos look like ****, or, I have even seen messages that delayed WEEKS come through. For example, my wife uses Handcent, I use Samsung Message app. Over a month ago, my brother in law sent her a pic of our dog, which she forwarded to me...but I didn't get it until a month later, when she accidentally opened the stock messages app, instead of the Handcent app she usually uses. Then, I got all the damn replies a month late from the related group messaging.
This was happening to me weeks ago so is nothing new. Unsure why it's suddenly become such a worldwide issue in the last few days.
I've tried every SMS app going as well as the stock one and it doesn't matter which I use. The messages still didn't arrive.
My S8+ was bought factory unlocked in the UK and it's on the 3 network.
This definitely exists. I have narrowed my issue to long text messages that would be split into 2 or more. I have since switched to the Android Messaging app and no longer have the issue..... I would try it...
My issue existed with the native Samsung Messenger app.
Anyone else have an issue where certain texts dont come in? I was texting my girlfriend and got no response for several hours. Messaged her thru Instagram and she said she replied and showed me a screenshot of the message sending from her iPhone. Ive had this issue in the past with messages coming from iPhones and thought it was just a bad day for someone higher up at Apple/Android. Both restarted our phones and texts works again but I still never got the ones she sent. When I restarted my phone it said the last 2 texts didn't send even though she got them.
Today I just found out I didn't get a an SMS text from a friend who I believe is on an iPhone as well
What is going on? Verizon OP7P but I bought directly from OP
Do you have cdma-less configured on your Verizon account? Do you have Instagram battery optimization turned off? Do you have an sms app that works properly when you are connected to WiFi? Something like message+? Are you on 9.5.10?
I had an issue with not receiving text's sometimes or sometimes even texts not sending. I mostly noticed the issue would occur in group chats as well as when i would attempt to send an image to somebody. I mostly use Textra for my SMS app, but i noticed that when i disabled my DNS module in Magisk the issue seemed to stop. I have since just been using the 1.1.1.1 DNS app and added my texting app as an exception and I have not noticed any issues.
When I got the OnePlus 6T last year, I couldn't receive any messages also. Learned from forums that you have ask a Verizon representative to add CDMA radio to your new phone. I think it's called CDMA less, once I got that added then got the messages. The 6T was the first phone OnePlus released onto Verizon's coverage.
Me too you have to tell Verizon you need cdma less.
I have this issue on occasion. I also use Textra but I am on Tmobile. I did have the messages app disabled but now trying it enabled with no notifications. This way I only get notifications from Textra. Been good for two days as far as I can tell.
I have the international version I got directly from Oneplus.
