It's like holding my breath waiting for this unlocker for the Verizon TP2!!!! I know that the people working on this are extremely talented and that not anyone can do this. I'm also sure its not as simple as baking cookies so I'm grateful as hell. I'm just sooooo sick of windows 6.1. Its truely ugly! Coming from an iPhone it looks like I took a time machine back to the 80's and got a celli....
um..Wah?
I fail to see how you find it ugly, and how you find the iphone so sexy. The iphone look is a few nice transitions and some rounded edges, nothing flashy. Now, with a simple background .cab this device can look pretty sharp. You can't even to that on the iphone till you jailbreak it? Which in the end is a crappy business, no nice 3.0 jailbreak even available yet...i stick with my WinMo and Slide out keyboard, and WVGA screen over that iphone anyday

I agree! This phone is beautiful! And HTC has done all that they can to cover up as much of 6.1 as they possibly could but they didn't get it all. Even the 6.5 lock screen is better than 6.1's. It's just a more attractive OS. Things just don't look the same or as good in 6.1. I love the screen and keyboard on the TP2 though! Nothing I've tried is better so far.
I love my TP2 as well - but I don't need to make things up about the iPhone to feel better.
The iPhone has an extremely easy jailbreak for 3.0+.
That said - I like the features of the TP2 more. Althought I admit the screen keyboard on the iPhone grew on me quickly as being amazingly easy to use....

What do you guys think? I've had a Diamond before and now owning a Diamond 2 with most customisations and an own taskbar. I am looking for a device with a snapdragon processor and all that which I will keep for more than a year forward. I like watching movies, listen to music and customize my phone to the fullest - like icons, taskbar, user interface such as spb ms (how is it on hd2?).
Give me your thoughts and experiences with your HD2 and Desire!

I have both the desire and the hd2 and it makes me sad to use the hd2 anymore. Desire blows away hd2 in raw speed and performance compared to the hd2.
I haven't played with the Desire or even N1 yet, but I can say that I think your choice is going to boil down to the traditional android vs winmo question, rather than which piece of hardware. Both of those phones are close enough in specs that the deciding factor will inevitably come down to which os you're more comfortable with etc. Since you're already creating content for WM, you might want to stick with that, and HD2 is by far the best option in that category. However, I won't argue that android doesn't have some of the issues WM does, but I'm sure you're already familiar with all that.

You're right, and I love WM6.5/WM6.5.X for what it is, you can customize so much and really make it your own. I feel like on the Desire you're stuck with those 7 homescreens with some widgets but that's it. My choice is HD2, the 4,3 inch screen just does it for me.
I had HD2 for some time, sold it after 3 weeks of use. Hardware is awsome, Sense UI is awsome, WM sucks, makes phone slow after some use, but nothing drastical (snap dragon helps) but still somtimes that annoying brakes on scrolling pisses me alot, anyway, camera is awsome even @ night, very good dual led flash. after first days of usiong the HD2 it was very nice, (always is when its new) but after some days and some very common situation i actually found 4.3 screed too big for a phone to use on a go... really becomes very hard to use the phone one handed, in a car for exemple... i find it oversized in some cases. and what i hate more, 1100 battery on device, always dies in 1 and a half of a day of normal use. (sms, some calls and abit gps.)
But i still would prefer HD2 if it was with android, i think that WM is too slow in development and it become too old compared to droid OS. Droid is also (must be) not sure, but it must be mutch more stable then WM kuz its runs on linux kernel...
P.S: HD 2 is more for show off, than phone for everyday use in every situation. because of his 4.3 screen it becomes very eye catchy but not very handy for using. but anyway its pretty good for using in landscape two handed.
About multimedia in all terms HD2 wins on desire i think, never used Desire but heard about lack of video players. for droid, but sure it will be solved very very soon cuz of blazing speed of Droid growing.
Still I would prefer HD2 if it was Droid OS and screen size, (for multimedia, games, videos etc is the best!...) And now after selling HD2 im thinking about buying Desire, not sure yet :\ wait for some new phone or buy again HD2? :S the best would be hd2 desig, A BIT smaller screen, 1400 Battery, Droid OS. Another words INCREDIBLE is the goodie, optimal size and specs. Unfortinatly is only avaliable in US :S
If i could know about porting Droid on hd2 i would buy hd2 again and port droid to it.
Desire or HD2?
HD2 or Desire?
Pros and Cons: in comparison important for me.
HD2 - Desire
SCREEN: 4.3 Screen BUT LCD - 3.5 Screen BUT ALMOLED
BATTERY: 1100 mAh - 1400 mAh
OS: Windows Mobile(slower) - Android OS(fester)
CAMERA: 5mp 2 LED Flash - 5mp 1 Led Flash
Design: HD IMO is more sexy cuz of color and screen looks realy good, desire has common design and color sucks...
All the list is only IMO!
apparently watching video on the desire omled screen isnt great so it may not be a good choice for you if you like certain media.
I also hate that scrolling lag even on Desire and the newest Androids, but I will definitely organize my programs into folders like I have done since WM6.5 came out so that will probably help.
Some opinions I want to share, I had a HD2 and played with a Desire, as I put it on sale for my friend.
Desire is good, fun apps, customize home screens but that's it, for everyday use I still choose my HD2, because of its screen and functionality.
Browser in Desire is faster but not so smooth, lag in scrolling sometimes. Opera 10 is better, Opera 9.7 somehow u can tweak to make it scroll smooth. And the big screen won me over for browsing, and watching photos and movies as well.
As guy above save, Desire have no good video player, and u have to convert before watching, it takes hours. I dont have time for that.
Customize on the Desire is fun, but only for 1st time, it becomes boring quickly. To me, HD2 is still a "personal" phone than Desire.
1 important thing is MS Office pull me back. I still prefer to read, check, edit on a big screen.
Im not a "big" guy but the "big" screen of HD2 is no "big" for me, it's great to hold and use, even with 1 hand.
Desire still has it limitations, I think, but as u know about Winmo, it has no limitations out of the box, just some ugly in-deep interfaces.

Hmmm, about big screen and 1 handing I ment that for exemple for texting, can u reach every letter with 1 hand easily?! In personal I love big screens... but as i told, in some ways its too way big, anyway phone is still pretty packeble and feels very nice in hand.
i believe it's time to move on from wm because almost all wm development is only coming from xda devs and not from microsoft, unlike that android is being developed by our devs and google side by side, and it has a much steeper curve of development, also android versions are almost popping out every now and then and by the end of the year android 3 will most likely be available
you probably read and saw that 2.2 android is 2-5 times faster thatn the 2.1...now imagine the difference between the super fast 2.2 and upcoming versions of android
our wm (wm 6.1/6.5) will be abandoned since MS is focused on the WM7 which won't be compatible even with the hd2
android is a young OS,but only things that lack to completely wipe out WM are some specific apps, and time will solve that...other than that android as an OS beats wm as an OS
i'd take the desire right away

For your question, I can say I can type with 1 hand easily. Im used to it now.
Anyway, it depends on personal taste
If I go for android, definitely will be a 4.3' screen, I will not go any lower
Until the day Android can do all that Windows Mobile can currently do, should you only make the switch. Why make the switch to the OS based on things that that have yet to come, even if it is a certainty? You're using the phone now, aren't you? I find that too many people keep arguing for Android from the prospect of it will have this, it will have that soon, etc etc. It's all in the future. Until that point comes, get what is usable, practical and gets the job done.
By the time Android reaches the normality that is available in Windows Mobile, I doubt the OP will keep the same phone and probably would have changed already.
P.S. I text one-handed just fine and can reach all corners of the phone.

Nice said mate
The HD2 does not have a 1100 MAH battery, it's 1230. I love my HD2, I just feel so confuzzled right now with it whether to switch or not. I've been using WM since it was 6.0 [Elf days] and the HD2 is superb. My only complaint towards it is the battery cover. It looks hard to take off, I have yet to get mine off since I bought it Wednesday. I used Android on my Fuze and Tilt 2 and fell in love with it. But, I don't think I could use it on a daily basis for the rest of time with my phone. Very soon, the HD2 will have Android ported over to it and WP7 roms will defenitly come out for it. WM6.5 is just so customizable and I can change it to look like sense by using SPB. I would like a Hero, or a Magic just so I could play around with a native Android device, but could never use it as a main OS. In the future, if WP7 does not turn out to my liking, Android will be my next OS but until then Idk

u are right mate, its 1230 mAh... missed somthing. About porting, if it will happen some day, i would actually prefer to buy another HD2...
I think i need simply to play with Desire in my hand to see what i realy like, huge screen or nice os? :\
I have the HD2 and my girlfriend has the Desire. I really like the Desire and love the speed of android.
If you could give me Android on the HD2 then that would be perfect. Yes it's not quite as customizable as WM6.5 but you can change it to what you need.
If you are desperate for a device you can customise to within an inch of it's life you want WM but remember this is supposed to be a phone and not you whole world.
I'm sure there will be an Android device with a screen the size of the HD2, probably when we start getting better media players for it.
If you can hold on and let Android fill it's potential and have the device you want with Android on it then "make do" with the HD2 for now. It's not exactlly the worst phone in the world now is it.
Just my opinion and it's exactly what I am doing.
Cant wait for Android on an HD2

would you prefer desire or hd2 if you had a choise to get any of this 2 from stock.!?

i did think of that, but even right now android feels more stable,so much more stable...i had a hero, asked people should i switch to rhodium...they said do it right away,so i did,not just because they said, but because i wanted to try out as much htcs too,...and i can say i did regret that, even with better hardware rhodium with top class cooked ROMs didn't impress me as much as hero did, which was on a stock 1.5...
i'm not saying that you should buy a phone just because it will one day, when it grows up be a good one,i'm saying that you could also take in account something that is soon to happen...
i'd get a desire, no doubt
and the thing you people are saying is already used so many times and it really isn't much true...everybody says android is a young os,still crappy, not many apps and so on,but let's look it this way
android is young and crappy
but WM is quite old and still as crappy as all hell
i'm not promoting android,i'm just telling you based on my experience....i'm a flash and performance junkie,so far i've had about 15 different htcs in my hands, and i flashed every single one of them, except the hero which was good enough even with a stock rom
HD2 - slower, more mature system, more app variety, more mature apps for navigation divx player ect. Stagnacy
Desire - faster, less mature system, less mature app variety (though a LOT of little-apps or good apps that are constantly updated to be great), high momentum
For these day I would say that phones are about equal. Maybe even a little plus for HD2. But it is changing fast for android and desire and it will be soon on the upper side.
I had similar problem until yesterday, when I went with desire, becouse I don't like changing phones too often and with at least 2 years in mind it will probably be a better phone.
Get the Desire, Root it, throw Android 2.2 on there then its game over
Unless you really need that extra inch of screen & horrible winmo
I thought I'd start a thread to see what people's favorite features of the Captivate are. Not looking for things like "it's not an iPhone" but more of something like...
My favorite feature is the Panorama setting in the camera. I think it's awesome how you can sweep right to left, left to right, up and down, down and up and it will stitch together a panoramic photo instantly, just like that. I think that's by far my favorite feature.
Others? What do you love about the Captivate?
It's not an iphone

lol... I should have expected that.
Ok, so I'm totally sold on WinMo 6.5 and this is my first Android device. My gaming rig at home is 2k8R2, but virtually every other system I own runs Linux (8 at home counting VMs). I absolutely love Linux, but letting go of WinMo has been difficult - especially with the great people in those part of the forum. But more and more are moving to Android. So that's where I'm coming from on this.
0) Speed. It's wayyy faster than my 528 Mhz Touch Pro.
1) The screen. It's about 90% the size of the iPhone itself. Resolution is ok, but could be better.
2) Android. The ability to modify anything that I choose to is awesome.
3) It's not an iPhone. I FREAKING *HATE* Apple with a passion.
4) Proximity and light sensor. I expect this feature, but I also really like it.
5) 16 GB of internal memory. That's sweet, until you brick your phone and then Samsung has all of your personal data from TiBu and SMS backups. Dammit.
Things I hate:
0) It appears the GPS issues are mainly antenna-related. There have been hundreds of smartphones with GPS. How hard is it to learn from others' mistakes? This is what you do.
1) Froyo is taking way too long. It's been out for 5 months. Why do we not ALREADY have it?? (Officially...)
2) Devices are shipping with the 3-button combo broken. QA really dropped the ball on that. FAIL.
3) No flash on the back for the camera. Come on, it's one LED.
4) USB is on the top. This is totally personal, but on every other device I've had (mostly HTC), the connector is on the bottom. This is just weird.
5) This is way out of the ballpark, and a complaint about Android itself. The only thing that I dislike almost as much as Apple is Java. Yeah, we can discuss this all day, but I'll still hate Java. I'm uneasy with everything (dex files/executables) being Java based. I understand why they did it that way, and I'm glad they did something besides straight-up Java (that would make the phone unusable), but I'd prefer actual Linux binaries to run on these devices. I'm not sure why they did not do that, so if someone wants to continue this discussion, PM me and maybe we'll open another thread. I'd really like to understand more about this.
All-in-all, I really like this phone.
I love how the battery runs out of juice after about 10-12 hours and doesnt even make it through one business day. I love that!!
GPS. Because it gives so many people a reason to be unhappy. And, as I've said before, some people aren't happy unless they're unhappy. So now they're happy. And that's good.
The screen and Android.
Everything I hated about iPhone has been tended to and all of what i loved about the iPhone is intact.
Don't have to conserve power any more or carry a charger or buy a "juice case" ......Battery is replaceable on the fly.
Removable storage. No need for Syncing SW
Samsungs battery charger/phone stand is a great accessory to have....http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Batte...UTF8&s=wireless&qid=1287164024&sr=8-3-catcorr
These are all going to be comparisons to the iPhone so deal with it.. it's what I came from. It's not an "I hate iPhone" just a comparison because I loved the device when I had it.
I love the customizations that can be done with the phone. From custom ROMS, to tweaking the Icons, and I can do with it what I want to. With an iPhone I was VERY limited by what i can do.
Notification bar - I hated the bubble popup while i was in the middle of doing something else with the phone.
Speed - the phone is 100000000 times faster than my old iPhone 3G.
The ability to backup what I want to - contacts, data, applications - I can back it up. I was at the whim of Apple and its proprietary iTunes before.
The screen is gorgeous - Every thing pops and I think it's on par with the "uber iPhone 4 retina screen". It might not be as crisp or sharp as it.. but it is nice nonetheless.
The Ugly:
I hate the fact that it can be easily killed - but not necessarily bricked. One wrong move and *poof* have to restore the device and start all over again.
The battery life due to the screen being a HUGE battery hog. I am able to get 12-16hrs out of one charge. But I feel as if I have to restrain my phone usage to prolong battery life from the device.
GPS is still flaky at best. Although Samsung states this is a "software" issue - too man Captivate owners have had too many issues with it. Thankfully I don't use it all that often being a casual phone dood (i.e. I don't travel alot, and mainly use it for txt, calls, email, xda, etc...)
Samsung/ATT support by not having the phone truly ready for the public. They have finally released their official 2.2 Froyo to Europe - which means we might see it by December.
Having to had to install a tweaked custom ROM on a device that should have been working from the start.
Java - I personally cannot stand Java. I think it is slow, bloated, bulky, easily exploited, and is not a great programming language. I liken it to Visual Basic in the Linux world. But then again.. the phone could have been programmed in all C, Perl, or C++ only. *eek*. Sure it would have been screaming fast, but who would be programming for it?
Overall I have a feature rich, fast phone that is about 90% functional. As a consumer it is disappointing that my first foray into the Android world had to be so difficult. But thanks to XDA and the people taking the time to make this device work - its been completely worth it.!
I've used everything so far as mobile OSes go. WinMo 6.5, iOS, and now Android. I have to say, Android is by far the best I've used to date.
The things I love about this phone:
The screen is absolutely amazing. I go back and forth between my phone and my iTouch for apps and there's just no comparison. The SAMOLED screen blows Apple's technology out of the water for clarity and color.
We actually have real multi-tasking, not that lame app-switching-loading-an-app-from-memory that Apple calls multi-tasking in iOS4.
It's speed. I never thought I'd get a smartphone with a 1Ghz CPU in it, let alone a standalone GPU capable of 70+ fps in OpenGL. That's just insane. I can still remember using my Blackjack1 with its 200Mhz OMap CPU that we could overclock to a blistering 312Mhz!
The notification bar and the toast notifications. It's nice to be able to continue using an app without getting a popup notification that deletes everything you were working on or pushes your app to the background.
The seemingly limit possibilities of Android. It seems like you can edit just about anything on this phone. While theming the phone could probably be easier, (I wish there was something more like Winterboard for Android) the ability has always been there and there wasn't a need for something like a jailbreak to get there.
And I'm just going to group these last ones into on big category. The camera, the accelerometer, the 16GB of built in storage, the style (especially the nice carbon fiber patterned battery door), and it's lightweight and comfortable design.
I like USB on top. I can charge my phone right side up in my cup holder.

Ahh, that's the one thing I don't like. I drive an '08 Ford Focus with a manual trans. The cup holders are literally right behind the gear lever and when I put the phone in the cup holder, I'm constantly hitting it the cable whenever I go to shift. I really need to make some sort of dock for the car...

I love the design and feel. Metal back, corners that make it look different than an iPhone, and the perfect size. 4" is the perfect screen size, perfect.
I was contract free and could get any phone on any carrier and I thought the look, feel, size, etc of the Captivate was the best. 3.5" really too small. 3.7" close...but still not really as nice as 4" for web and games. 4.3" I was holding a damn frozen waffle to my ear...just too big.
The only real negative I have after the Cog 2.2 update (no more lag, faster, better gps, etc) is the battery sucking power of the screen. It is quite manageable with things like dark backgrounds and reduced brightness. However, there is a definite tradeoff on the screen. Personally I like the contrast ratio, colors, etc, better than the iphone4 screen's slightly higher rez. However on bright apps, the battery does take a hit. Battery in all other areas (3G talk, etc) as good as the best out there.
The thing I like the most is the look of the phone, its not squarr, it has really nice curves to it. To me it seems the cappy is the best looking phone around, all my friends are jelous that I got this phone even my friend, that has the iphone 4 lol! Second things is the screen its very clear in,sunlight. When I had the iphone I couldnt see a thing with this phone I can still see everything even in direct sun light. The snappiness of the phone is awesomee to, unlike some other phones like desire it doesnt lag at all!

I like the battery cover, and the phone's design in general :3
WoW..what is my favorite thing...more than just 1 thing for me too...Everything so far. The looks..the feel..the size of the screen..The clarity and detail I get when watching a HD movie on it that I loaded.Just being able to watch a HD movie I loaded on it. The ease of typing a message or making a phone call. The responsiveness of the screen. BTW..I have no lag and am running it stock with the Jf6 rom (is that right ?) Having a great camera helps too...All in all I am well pleased with mine and have but 2 complaints... the gps issue..and the weak usb socket...I prefer the GPS to work properly of course, and the usb socket is what it is and I'll just have to be careful on inserting the plug..but neither were my primary reason for buying this phone..I bought it for all the other reasons I already listed. My wife loves her too..I have to say I've changed my mind about the new Iphone 4's though..they are pretty nice too since bought my sons got them when my wife and myself got our Captivates a couple days ago..They are good solid phones from what I can see..some what limited to what is on them..but otherwise good solid phones..Even my boys watched in awe when I fired up the Transformer movie to show them this morning on mine..but not enough so to exchange them for what we have...They are firmly entrenched in the apple orchard..and have been since the i-pods came out..

love the super amoled screen!!
What's not to love? Such sheer beauty and potential that I just see quirks where many see problems.
It's inanimate, though, right?
The choices I'm looking at area really just two:
iPad 2
Motorola XOOM
I am guessing that you'll all tell me to get the XOOM because, well, it's XDA developers. Although I'm kind of leaning towards that direction, I would like to have concrete reasons other than "Apple is evil".
The biggest problem I have with the XOOM is that it's not IPS, if it were I'd already have bought it. So for those of you who have the XOOM, is it's screen ok in terms of viewing angle? Cuz I'm just sooo sick and tired of weird colors or reversed colors from TFT panels. And I'm also really sensitive to minor inaccuracy in color, just makes me so mad. Thank god it has a 1280X800 resolution or it would've been out of question instantly.
The second biggest problem is design. I mean excuse me, most tablets except the iPad and iPad 2 look like ****. I think the XOOM is the only acceptable looking one, yet it has a crappy looking back side. The Samsung Galaxy tab, is one of the ****tiest looking product I've ever seen. Why? Not only because its stupid thick, the proportion of its size versus its screen size is ugly, and its display theme totally does not match its physical appearance. So all other Android tablets are out of the question, they just look like ****. Those of you who's studied art must know, that it's all about proportion, the golden mean and all that. Not the absolute size or design of anything in particular.
You may all hate the lack of personalization and the icon tile of iPad, but it is just soooo much more harmonious in terms of design and looks. Not that I'm gonna be unpractical but the difference is just so significant I can't ignore it.
The iOS also has a significantly larger number of apps at 65,000. Now I don't own any iOS devices so I don't really know how many of them are actually worthy of using. The last time I checked Honeycomb has like, what? 400? Even though I don't play games so I can exclude all the iPad games that still sounds like a huge difference. I'm not sure what that translates to.
Having said so many good things for the iPad 2, I have problems with it as well. I'm so frustrated, no product is perfect.
The iPad 2 doesn't have retina display, I hate the term retina, it's as if Jobs invented a new type of screen just be increasing resolution. But really, why haven't any phone yet to beat the iPhone 4? All I see is bigger and bigger screen, without any of them beating iPhone 4 in resolution. Shame on the Android phones. And yes, I love pixels period. Anyway, the iPad 2 resolution is a bit unsatisfactory, it's smaller than the 720p's 1280 in width, that's the most problematic. It should've been 1280X960.
I my self also have a problem with customization in iOS, and it's icon tile. I think although Android 2.x look stupid on tablets. Android 3.0 looks awesome, and it seem to function a lot better. I think my self as really good at electronics so I won't be frustrated by its complications as long as it's not stupidly designed like the BB PlayBook which I spent 20 minutes trying to figure out how to quit an application and failed, such a stupid product, bad looking as well.
So yea... only if the XOOM had IPS screen, a bit longer battery life, and a little less stupid back cover. It would've been perfect.
Why limit to just 2? Why aren't you looking at new android tablets from Samsung, Asus, LG etc.?
Asus transformer, dont wast your money on apple garbage
because they look like ****. unacceptable in appearance.
I use an Android phone. I got an iPad, in the end it is just a big iPod Touch to me and not much more. I gave it to my wife who use it as an e-reader. I got a netbook instead and installed Ubuntu in it, now I have a real portable computer instead of a computer wannabe. Battery life is good enough and easily beat any smartphone out there in continuous use.
I mean yea the iPad is a big iPod touch. But the idea is that, that is just what it is, and the fact that it is big alone is enough reason to get it.
I can also see how the Honeycomb OS is more powerful, computer wise, if you want it to be a computer which it really isn't, it's a tablet.
But then, Honeycomb doesn't have the high quality apps the iPad is already filled with. which means less functionality in that sense.
Functionality is what made me gave up iPad. What it can do my Android phone could do it too.
The only pro is battery life which is legendary for a portable.
Of course it all depends on your need, so I suggest you look into what sort of specific function are you looking for.
For me it was web browsing, what I hate about my phone is it can't handle some web pages properly, the iPad is no better, if not worse (no Flash). So YMMV.
But if you just want a tablet and care about look, iPad is the way to go.
Hi
Ok, At first I bought myself the Blackberry Playbook, its multitasking of the new QNX OS is amazing great, battery life is not as promised by blackberry. Than when they made an announcement that Android Apps will be delayed in the merger passed the summer, I exchanged it for a Motorola Xoom, I was never a big fan of Motorola but I will tell you, I love this freaking Tablet, its fast reliable. Only thing I am slightly disappointed is even on a fast wifi. It freezes videos on cnn.com and msn.com( those are the only two I have tried so far.) Youtube plays flawlessly on wifi, I also use the 4G hotspot on my HTC EVO to get the internet anywhere I go.
Battery Life: I have played games on it. to test battery and I will tall you I am happy. I took it to work Played Doodle jump and Fruit Ninja THD on it and I came home with battery still at half full. I do not have my Xoom now since my sister in law decided to steal it, it's been 2 days now and I called her earlier and she told me battery is still halfway full. This girl plays Poker Stars on the thing all day long so I am happy I have a reliable device. I just wish they made better cases for it and the speakers in the front not back.
PS: APPLE SUCKS!! lol.
Primarily I bought the tablet to take it to school and do work on it. If I am doing a PowerPoint presentation and I need to throw it to a PC I do not want to have an IPad in that situation. Because you cant do mass storage transfer. Only way of transferring the file is emailing myself. now if I have a WiFi only IPad that sucks if I have no internet connection to email it. Also if the file is bigger than 10MB you cannot email it to no one unless you separate the file into two or more. Thank you for open source
Also im not hating on apple products, I am hating on the people who make the OS which is so strictly locked down by apple.
Sure you can jailbreak, but not everyone knows how to do it, OR some people are to by the book and don't do it. OR they are plain Dumb
The XOOM is a great tablet, actually. The only downside is that since it's so new, it's native apps are a little glitchy and there aren't many apps for tablets on the Android Market. But both of those will be resolved soon.
Try out a XOOM, they're great.
I would honestly wait for maybe another 3-4 months- within that time frame there should at least another 3-4 highly competitive Android tablets running Honeycomb and it'll give time for more usage of the tablet version and some updates will be on the way. In fact Honeycomb 3.1 has already been confirmed to be released very soon.

Good point- Xoom native apps are still little glitchy.
You could even check out the LG G-Slate (branded as the T-Mobile G-Slate). Has 3D (which i don't care for) and it's running very similar hardware to that of the Xoom. Only downside to this one is the cost and the lack of a wifi only version.

If you can handle the somewhat buggy Honeycomb on it, I agree. Not that it's bad by any stretch of the imagination, just has a few odd quirks.
Of course, this is xda, so I mean...modding it probably isn't entirely out of the question.
The iPad on the other hand "just works". My only gripe with it is the lack of expandable memory.
The decision really comes down to open vs. closed. If you want a more open device that you can tinker with, the Xoom is it. If you want something that just works, but is locked down pretty tight, the iPad is it.
I have just gotten an upgrade for my carrier and I am having trouble deciding if I would like to stay with an iPhone and get the iphone4s or go to an android and get the Samsung galaxy s2,I have never owned an android so I was wondering what can an android do compaired to iphone.
bigger screen and expandable storage, feels more like a computer than iphone does. They can both achieve the same goal but with different methods I think.
iOS shoves you into a shoebox.
Android shoves you into a moving box.
While both boxes, at least android you can move your elbows around.
Through rooting you have a wide range of customizing your phone with competing ROMs. These roms most often allow you to have a more optimized experience. But choose your manufacturer carefully if ROMing is what you want to do. Some manufacturers make this process easier or harder, but generally you'll have a bunch of super nerds that are more than willing to help you out.
iOS has a claim to stability over android. But think of it as having a paint by numbers and apple hands you the colors one at a time and forces you to do it their way. Android has versatility.
Uncle Rico: "I…I said the twelve pack, not the twenty-four pack. You're just gonna have to mix and match." Napoleon: "Shut up, say it so that the whole world can hear."
IOS Devices -
Smoother (High end androids such as SGS2 are about as smooth)
More Games.
Easier to use
Siri? (4s only - There are similar android apps but i don't believe any are as good.)
Android -
Customization (You can basically change everything on stock android.)
Larger variety of apps (Keyboards such as Swype, Launchers, etc)
I Don't really see why people complain about android Crashes/FC. They rarely happen on Stock roms (Not enough to be annoying) and usually occur due to doing something that isn't meant to be done (Task managers, Bad ROMs), or a faulty app.
Also, Rooting is pretty useful. It basically allows you to do anything with your phone (Such as install ubuntu, Android roms, better Radios for better signals, uninstall system apps, etc)
Everything!! I'm on my way to root this very instant.
From my personal experience, Android is far superior than the iphone 4 (can't say much about 4s as i just upgraded from the iphone 4).
Yeah iphone 4 has more apps but the majority of them are useless and get boring FAST. Whereas, flashing roms like cyanogenmod is totally addicting and so much fun (shame my phone is stuck in alpha version for cyanogenmod). I havent seen much of a difference in the retina display because my phone's screen is larger, looks crisp and looks beautiful.
Best thing is if you dont want to root you can still install emulators for free regardless of rooting. I <3 pokemon on my android.
Choice is yours but i am never going back to iphone because my phone is more fun.
Cheers

Apple makes something that just works. but if you don't like the way it works, too bad. Android devices work just as well, albeit differently, but it's nice to know that if there is anything in the UI that isn't to your liking, you can simply change it. in the early days of Android, the UI was sluggish and riddled with incompatibilities and crashes, which gave the iPhone a heightened sense of 'perfection.' this is a thing of the past. new, high-end Android devices are well-polished and just as snappy as any iPhone. ICS will further bridge the gap, especially in dual core devices.
one area Android cannot compete with Apple in, though, and I don't know if it will ever be able to: battery life.. and when you consider what the device is (above all else, it's a phone.. you probably need it to communicate, and therefore you probably want it to be powered on at all times), that's as important as any other feature. there's just no comparison. even if you spend 5 hours tweaking settings to minimize draw, your fancy shmancy Android device's battery will never last as long as an iPhone's. of course, again, we come back to the customization thing: with Android devices, you could just get a ludicrously overstuffed battery replacement and probably come near iPhone uptime, something you cannot do with Apple devices.
my honest opinion? (keep in mind I have owned 6 android devices since the Dream first came out.. I'm not an Apple fanboy at all - I'm not a fanboy of any fancy telephone. it's a phone, not my life) I would own an iPhone 4S over any current Android offering if I hadn't boycotted Apple years ago. they're not the type of business I willingly support... but give them respect when it's due: they make fantastic mobile devices.
for now, I'm more than happy with my MT4GS. I like the phys keyboard, which is superb, and I don't have to look like a halfwit when I'm sending e-mails on the go to the executive team. I like the hardware, which is identical to the Sensation's. I like the 3.7" screen coupled with HDPI resolution, which gives me plenty of viewing area on webpages and whatnot without crazy battery draw like you'll get from these gimmicky 5" HD screens. the camera is phenomenal for a phone. and even though it ships with the most disgusting form of Sense imaginable (T-mo's espresso), as I've said, it's easy to change things around to get the experience to my liking thanks to Android's ease of customization.
to all of the Android zealots who have posted here and will surely continue to post: get over it. the iPhone is the benchmark, that's the way it is, and in the foreseeable future, that's the way it will be. there's a reason for that, and it's not just because people who are Apple loyalists are idiots... ALL of apple's products are highly refined and very user friendly. if you're the kind of person who doesn't have the patience for technology, but wants to stay connected, you'd be dumb to go with anything but Apple. if you don't fit into that category; if you like to tinker, if you don't like feeling locked down by your mobile OS, buy an Android device and enjoy it... quit getting your panties in a bunch because the entire world doesn't see eye-to-eye with you concerning your choice in the realm of glorified telephones. if it works for you, that's all that matters, and who cares what your buddies with their iThings say? it's all just stuff in the end... stuff that will end up in a landfill just like the rest of the stuff you own.
just my $.02 (more like $.05, that was a novella)
I'd liken the iPhone to a safety bubble, where everything works well and doesn't overextend its boundaries. If you're someone who likes to tinker with everything, and wants more customizability, in terms of OS and phone choice, I'd go with Android.
This is how I recently described the difference between the iPhone and Android. I expected to get tutted at for saying it, but most people here agreed.
iPhones are for people who want to look like they know tech.
Android is for people that actually do know tech (or at least want to learn).
Nerds = android
IPhone = everyone else
If you wanna mod and my your phone and completely make it your own get an android.
The iPhone is great straight out of the box but is really locked down.
You basically need to tweak an Android phone to make it have decent battery life or get an extra battery.
Perks of android is options and oh btw ICS is amazing, it runs flawless on my phone, though I had to tweak it.

basically everything a computer can
Android is like having a normal car, with all the proper features. iOS is like having that car with only 1 pedal, 1 gear, and just the fuel gauge on the dashboard.

Ah yes, polished chrome for paint job that just blinds everyone else including yourself. Also, mirrors show what's in front of you rather than behind.
Most of the stated I agree with. I'd add that to me, iPhones are boring. What do you have when you turn on iPhone? Just a bunch of icons. Not very creative or different? Not even animated wallpaper. On Adndroid, half the fun is customizing the desktop. You can have live wallpaper, widgets, folders, icons... And yes, iPhone is probably a BIT smoother and more stable than most Android phones. But this is not the fault of Android phones, it is more a thing that you can't do half the things with an iPhone that you can do with Android. Apple limited their device and ofcourse it performs better because it doesn't do many things android does. Imagine only Live Wallpaper. How much more CPU power Android phones must use in order to display animated background.... then all the widgets. That constantly change/update.... while Apple devices only display rows of icons and no wonder they run slightly smoother. And in the end, as someone already stated, I will never buy an Apple product because I don't like the attitude of people using Apple. Those are mostly non-tech people that think they are so cool only because of something they OWN. IMHO it is way more cool to be ABLE to customize your device and understand how it works and tweak it than to be able to PURCHASE something. Just like they say in new Samsung commercial... one guy says "I could never have Samsung, I'm creative" and his friend replies "Dude, you're a barista" ;-) 99% of thos cool people are not businessman or even IT. They're waiters and shop assistents that need an ego boost....

Also known as sheep.
Thing is, I have recently fled from the flock of sheep (I had an iphone 4, got it from a friend for free as I lost my Galaxy). I absolutely love the creative ability of android, I miss being in a moving truck instead of a shoebox. If you're deciding on which to get, it depends on what you want it to do;
Want something to just work? Get an iPhone.
Want the phone to be more flexible and allow you to customize almost every conceivably possible option? Get an android phone.
android can do what chuck norris cant
