[Q] Does WP7 support 'folders' for pics? - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just curious, I have my pictures separated out into different folders: my daughters, cars, girls, etc, etc.
I know there's a 'favorites' and I know you can view by date, but does WP7 allow you to create folders for pic organization?
Thanks.
Cyph

Not really. If you upload them to Facebook as private albums they'll show up separately though with the integration

You can sort them into folders on your skydrive.

It actually does, thank to Pocketnow.com for the article.
Picture folders on WP7.
Skydrive works too. Thanks.

think your links broken ?

Good catch, left the "7" off the end of the URL. Works now.

In my experience, Windows Phone simply mirrors the directory structure you have on your PC. Not rocket science!

I realise its now been said but yes yes it does and it does it very well. media organization is simply superb on wp7 be it pics music videos contacts this is one area MS is king

Thanks...or not...

I don't have a WP7 phone as of yet, hence the question. My directory structure in my WM6.5 was setup like I wanted on the phone itself.
I don't use Zune either so I put the question out there.
Sheesh.

This was a worry for me, too.
You can directly copy the picture folders from your phone to your PC and set the Zune software to use that as the sync directory for pictures. Doing so will migrate your folders just as you desire.

Double twist sync Mac/PC

Not sure if this is news, but here is a cool thing to sync music, photos and video to N1 from Mac, PC, PSP.. IT does not sync contacts.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UUCdMG1J9Vw&feature=player_embedded
you need to set up an account, activate it, and off u go. it does all sorts of things including importing playlists. and NO, im not their salesperson, and YES its free so far.
Its not very useful - you can drag-drop stuff to you SD anyways, but who knows, maybe playlists could be of any interest.
I've had it for a few days now since reading the article on Engadget. It's pretty cool and is to the N1 what iTunes is to the iPhone/iPod.
One thing I don't like and I'm not yet sure if there are options to correct this, but when you go to "Pictures" it only pulls up the images stored in the camera folder. Would be nice to see all my image folders and organize them all in one place.

it could be done, trbl is that the folders on your SD can be named anyway you like - all but the camera folder that is created by the system. unless the code scans all of your SD for pics... i wonder what happens if you drop all your picture foldes into the /sdcard/DCIM/Camera/ as subfolders?
ill give it a try l8r

The thing I don't like about DoubleTwist is that it puts all of my music files in the root of the SD card. Personally I like to have organization on my SD card.
Winamp does the same job and is better than doubletwist..

DoubleTwist - itunes for android (and other devices)
Just saw this on Gizmodo. Giving it a try now. Seems like pretty good software.
Mac version supports Android market like the app store in itunes.

Prefer using an audio converter and then just loading the converted files to my phone. There are great shareware versions all over the net.

Transfering files to other phones

Hello people,
How can we send files, like videos, music and pictures by bluetooth to other phone?
Regards
You can't. Depending on the type of file, you can upload it and share a link.
Or you can email it.
im hopin they add some kinda file explorer or bluetooth explorer in the near future
Yes hope so, we need the file explorer to send files from bluetooth...
regards

Absolutely. Now it's a very crippled OS.
Especially when somebody has a good feature phone with Bluetooth and it's a complete nonsense to either use email on this or set an email account and download the whole inbox to get, let's say one small picture.
Pity MS screwed so many things at start.
The same for Zune. Instead of just simple drag&drop you wait for HOURS for the movies and pics to convert, before you actually PUT them on the device.
And of course core MS products have completely no compatibility between them, like Live - Outlook - MyPhone.....

[Q] Where does WP store music?

I HATE Zune!
I find it very painfull to use if you have a bunch of un-named songs its just useless.
I miss the days of just dragging and dropping the folders in explorer onto my phone in order to sync my files.
So I have access to the filesystem on my phone using Windows phone device manager, but I still cant locate where WP keeps, Music, pics or videos etc!...
Can someone please help me out.?
EDIT: Just found where it stored my songs and album art. Seems it wont help if I just copying my media into the filesystem Why can't it just have a file called, music, videos etc!!!!)

Because Windows Phone sucks ass, trying to be like the iPhone. They figured that this way you wouldn't share music that you've downloaded with others so they can make more money; same reason you can't freaking send an audio file as an attachment or MMS. People on here are probably tired of hearing me say this but WM kicks WP ass by a long shot, this is why their sales suck.
"I find it very painfull to use if you have a bunch of un-named songs its just useless."
Consider that you are the problem, not zune. Go organize your music library, learn to use a computer, etc etc.
sinister1: WM sales weren't great either...
Why are there two WP haters spamming up this forum?
mmm, excuse me!
Check my previous posts! I am no spammer!
Maybe this forum would be a better place without "senior" members like you!
And as for me knowing how to use a computer.......the first computer I used was a commodore VIC-20, you probably dont even know what one of them is!
I have probably built more computer systems than you have had hot meals!
I will not stand for this personal attack! Certainly not from a senior member that should know better!

not yet. it'll come, but might be a while. yeah, the interop is annoying, but we'll get it eventually.
You really don't need a file explorer. Documents go to the Office hub. Photos go to the Photos hub. PDFs will go to the PDF Reader app (in the Store), and Music lives in the Music+Videos hub. If you want, you can use your free SkyDrive (skydrive.com, log in with your existing Microsoft account) to store whatever you like. You can then access that from the phone using the SkyDrive app in the Windows Phone Store.
Windows Phone does a great job of organizing your data for you. It is not like Android, and will take some getting used to. It is better than an iPhone, though, which restricts you even more, dumbing things down way too far, IMO.

Windows Phone does a great job.. but nothing will ever do a better job than a user who knows what he's doing..
I personally find it extremely frustrating that I can't download a file from my email.. and store it somewhere to attach and send it off to someone else later.
If someone sends me a zip file and I want to store it on my phone.. how does that happen?!

That is a valid point, for users that do actually know what they're doing. It would be nice if Windows Phone provided a sandboxed area to store any type of file, either downloaded via the browser or from an email. However, .zip files can be opened from an email and their contents saved to the phone (if a file type supported by either the built-in functions or an app). Those files can then be re-attached to a new email. You could also just forward the email to someone else, modifying the contents, if you want to send the entire .zip. There is an app in the Store alled Archiver that will open .rar, .gz, .tar, .7z, and .bz2 files and save them for later.

was just using the zip as a reference file.. but it could be anything..
They should really make an app that is a file explorer.
I don't have a WP phone, but I know there's NO WAY to root it or jailbreak. Root = ONLY Android. Jailbreak = ONLY Apple products.
AW: [Q] htc 8x root or jailbreak
I think they mean something similar to root or jailbreak, not exactly the same
Sent from my Windows Phone 8X by HTC using Board Express
Sorry for my post :s i never speak about wares next time.
But the lumia 920 it's unlock ?
Search the market for "Here Drive" ...
Hi,
Can I ask how to install a .xap app to HTC 8X when you have downloaded from the web page market (pc).
There is no storage card inside the mobile market as the instruction are given from microsoft.

Thanks a lot!!! This is what I needed.
This app is so close but fails. I have a large comic collection, 200GB+ and I find a lot of the times when I go to open a comic off the SMB Share it will sit at Loading File List and count up endlessly. Makes it unusable. Unless someone here knows a fix?

I have a collection of 300GB+ and no problems here. I should note, though, that I have my comics organized into folders and subfolders, not just 25,000 files sitting in one directory. My first suggestion is to try creating a folder with 50-100 cbr/cbz files and see if you have a problem loading the list then.

Hey,
So I know this is an old thread but I was hoping for some help. I just found this app and it sounds great, but I am a huge NOOB when it comes to some things. I have my comics folder being shared on my windows 8.1 PC, but I have no idea how I access it via the app. I am able to find the part where I have to input the server path into the app, but I'm not sure what format that takes. I have the IP address, then backslash, computer name, backslash folder name. Not working. How do I know what the path name should be exactly?
Thanks.
Hello,
I've tested this app in order to resolve my main concern about reading comics. As you folks, I have 300Gb+ collection in SMB share, so I need an easy way to navigate through my collection, and ComittoN is really FAST navigating through folders. I also used Perfect Viewer, which also hace CIFS/SMB support, but is painfully slow regarding folfer navigation, specially when using thumbnails.
BUT, as far as I've tested ComittoN, it's only working in Manga mode (reading right to left). I have a lot of manga, but only means 25-30% of the collection, and reading western comics right to left is really weird. Is there any config menu to select reading mode in ComittoN?
Thank you.

I have my collection in Airport shared, in 192.168.1.10. Attached hard drive is named "Cache", and it has one directory, called "Comics".
So, format is as follows:
IP: 192.168.1.10/Cache/Comics
Username: *****
Password: ****
Workgroup: default
I think your issue is with naming convention in shared resources. You have to use "IP"/"Shared resource"/"Directory". You're using "computer name" as shared resource, but I think you should use there the name of the shared resource, not computer name (*I think*).
