Not sure if this is news, but here is a cool thing to sync music, photos and video to N1 from Mac, PC, PSP.. IT does not sync contacts.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UUCdMG1J9Vw&feature=player_embedded
you need to set up an account, activate it, and off u go. it does all sorts of things including importing playlists. and NO, im not their salesperson, and YES its free so far.
Its not very useful - you can drag-drop stuff to you SD anyways, but who knows, maybe playlists could be of any interest.
I've had it for a few days now since reading the article on Engadget. It's pretty cool and is to the N1 what iTunes is to the iPhone/iPod.
One thing I don't like and I'm not yet sure if there are options to correct this, but when you go to "Pictures" it only pulls up the images stored in the camera folder. Would be nice to see all my image folders and organize them all in one place.

it could be done, trbl is that the folders on your SD can be named anyway you like - all but the camera folder that is created by the system. unless the code scans all of your SD for pics... i wonder what happens if you drop all your picture foldes into the /sdcard/DCIM/Camera/ as subfolders?
ill give it a try l8r

The thing I don't like about DoubleTwist is that it puts all of my music files in the root of the SD card. Personally I like to have organization on my SD card.
Winamp does the same job and is better than doubletwist..

DoubleTwist - itunes for android (and other devices)
Just saw this on Gizmodo. Giving it a try now. Seems like pretty good software.
Mac version supports Android market like the app store in itunes.

I personally think double twist is crap it has potential though. hehe.

It would fubar my playlist. Tried it, but no thanks...
Prefer using an audio converter and then just loading the converted files to my phone. There are great shareware versions all over the net.

Just curious, I have my pictures separated out into different folders: my daughters, cars, girls, etc, etc.
I know there's a 'favorites' and I know you can view by date, but does WP7 allow you to create folders for pic organization?
Thanks.
Cyph
Not really. If you upload them to Facebook as private albums they'll show up separately though with the integration
You can sort them into folders on your skydrive.
It actually does, thank to Pocketnow.com for the article.
Picture folders on WP7.
Skydrive works too. Thanks.

Good catch, left the "7" off the end of the URL. Works now.

In my experience, Windows Phone simply mirrors the directory structure you have on your PC. Not rocket science!
I realise its now been said but yes yes it does and it does it very well. media organization is simply superb on wp7 be it pics music videos contacts this is one area MS is king
Thanks...or not...

I don't have a WP7 phone as of yet, hence the question. My directory structure in my WM6.5 was setup like I wanted on the phone itself.
I don't use Zune either so I put the question out there.
Sheesh.

This was a worry for me, too.
You can directly copy the picture folders from your phone to your PC and set the Zune software to use that as the sync directory for pictures. Doing so will migrate your folders just as you desire.
I want to sync a folder from my PC with a folder on my SDcard...
It should automaticaly Sync over wifi in both ways... any Idea?
Dropbox works awesome, maybe not exactly the way you want it but it does the trick.

No it doesn´t because at first the Dropbox doesn´t copys the Files automaticaly on my SD and second I have at least 13 gigabytes of Music and only 8gb Dropbox space...
Maybe Doubletwist AirSync?
That one is more specific with working with Music/Photo/Video, if you're looking for something a little more generic for syncing, there's also a portable app called Toucan
Good luck.
The problem with Double Twist is that it doesn´t hold my folders as they are...
And the problem with Toucan... I can´t access my SD with that over Wifi... any idea for that?
Try "WebSharing", there is a lite and a paid version. The second one includes some extra options for videos and music I think, not sure on which are the differences, anyway, it works great for me!
You can simply share a folder on your PC and using a file explorer on your phone (I have tried this using Estrong file explorer) you can search the LAN for shared drives. Find the folder you have shared on your PC and access files from your phone.
Well, another method - this is the way I do it, but it requires root access on your phone.
If you have root access, then you can install an app "Samba filesharing". And, this enables to make the phone a samba server.
Then, you can simply connect to ip address of your phone (or the samba server name you specified) from your PC and seamlessly access/modify/delete files on the sd card all the time. I would even suggest mapping a network drive to make it even more convenient.
I would be also interested in a solution like that. Mainly for Music, but also for other stuff/files.
Here is what I tried out so far:
I looked into Double Twist (a cumbersome resource hog on my netbook and always crashing), Winamp Sync (playlist and not folder-based, lack of control on what is happening) and Wifi Music Sync (lots of bad reviews, people lost files and else).
Has anyone tried Sugar Sync? If I read their website right, it syncs first to their cloud, which is the last place, where I want my personal files.
The solution with Samba Server or ES Explorer works (I also tried a simple FTP setup with Filezilla on the Desktop and AndFTP or SwiFTP (FTP server on phone) and any FTP client on the desktop. Problem with those solutions, it's all manual.
So far nothing satisfactory. I'm with the OP on this one, a small, neat, small resource solution, where you simply define the folders to be synced, would be best. Any more ideas? Thanks so far!
Just my 2 cents (definitely an UGLY solution): I've been using Syncness to sync over wifi. It's not the worst solution and has the benefit of working both with locally shared network drives as well as dropbox.

Actually, i love syncness. I've been using it for a month now. It's not perfect, but it works well for me, like syncing my documents folder to my Milestone and DHD, and back.
Titanium Media Sync can do this - syncs all types of files (not just media) - search on market (I can't post a link)
mmm I go for Sugarsync....
I'm using PCFileSync and have no problems. It's always being updated.
I have Titanium Media Sync, and it works very well for syncing files to dropbox, but I would really like to set it up to work with ftp, so I could sync files straight to my computer. How do I set something like this up? I"m a super ftp noob

I believe what you are looking for is possibly The Missing Sync.
http://www.markspace.com/products/android/missing-sync-android.html
However, I have asked the developer questions and received no answers. There is a trial version available but i'm having issues which need answered by the developer. The software is not cheap at $35.00 single machine license.
If you decide to try it, let me know how it goes for you.
Here's my scenario:
2 computers, htc evo 3d (now trying on a galaxy tab).
Desktop and laptop sync the "My pictures" folder (1gb and growing) by using microsoft live mesh. And then, I have The Missing Sync reading the "My pictures" folder and syncing that folder to the Galaxy Tab SD card into a folder called "My Pictures".
Questions I have asked the developer (Ticket# 813081)
(1) Hi, Is there a file count limitations? I plan to use this to sync my pictures folder which has a couple thousand items (1,533 Files, 41 Folders, 1.48gb of data ) as of this moment and growing. This will be to a 32 GB microsdhc card in my evo 3d. Would there be any possible problems I should know about?
(2) Are there any file size limitations? (im aware of fat32 4gb single file size limit of the storage device) But does The missing sync have a file size limit of its own?
(3a) Does The Missing Sync Hash files for sync? If so, does it store temp files?
(3b) How does missing sync determine what needs synced around?
(4) I plan on adding a Samsung galaxy tab ... I'd also like to sync my pictures to it as well as the evo. 1 computer, two mobile devices. Is this possible with single license or will i need a multi license?
That's all for now. Thank you.

the issues i am having are that the whole process takes about 7 minutes from the moment sync is pressed, to any activity is noticed. And then, files start flowing, but 15 minutes later, it stops at random with very vague error log.

+1 for FolderSync. It lets you sync individual folders with Dropbox, with a Windows share, etc.
this is so simple
This is so simple why is there no app that does this, we don't want cloud storage to interfere all we need is a PC/Mac app where you can see your folders/files . Then you want to be able to select folders and files using a checky box ready to sync to ur android device.
Why do you need to select files/folders? Because when you have an mp3 collection of over 40gb you only want a small portion of this on ur android device. The app needs to ensure that ur android device always keeps in sync with the selected PC files so that if you ever add music to ur PC it will get added to android through the sync app.
Now does this app exist or am I going to have to learn to write an android app??

Look into cheetah sync app. Its the closest thing i could find that works for me.
https://play.google.com/store/search?q=cheetah+sync
Its been working beautifully for me granted its not fully automatic and requires some configuring before it can do what you want it to do.
Good but its not quite right

No this is still not right, cheetah sync is just a small service that sits on your pc. you can't use it to select the files on your pc you want on your phone, everything has to be done with folder pairing on the phone. Now if I want to choose 10 albums that are in random locations on my hard drive that would take ages to do on my phone. On the PC this would be a simple task.(If the app exists!!!)
I'm wondering what app ppl are using to download mp3's on theory android devices. I've been using gtunes but am starting to see it not finding mainstream music. Also not thrilled with its permissions.
What's the best app for downloading free music?

Thanks, i used to use that too. I have been using gtunes but i think more often than not it doesnt find what im looking for, which is mainstream. I have since downloaded "Free Music Download" (orange icon white headphones as the icon) and it works better.
I've discovered a method of using the web browser xscope to download the music files via mediafire or megupload. In Google type, site:mediafire.com (artist name) (album name). Packages usually come in the form of .zip or .rar files but also as .Mp3 for single files. Pick the link of the files you want and allow it to finish downloading. You will need a .zip and/.rar expander to reveal the .Mp3 files in the album. I use the app, android zip.UnzipLite and unrar, both found in the market. You will need to navagate your SD card to find the files located in the xscope download folder with one of the two applications. Place files into the media/audio folder on your SD. I hope you guys try this out it works quite well for me and never really have to worry about syncing to get a new album on my phone.

Hello!
I have tried multiple app without success. Someone know a Good App to Encrypt those **Private** (cough...porn) pictures that sometimes we take with our excellent Infuse Camera???
well the simple solution is to use the built in file browser and move the pictures to any other folder, then put a file in there with the name .nomedia
Doing this will stop the media scanner from scanning the folder and showing up in the gallery or player apps. Of course this doesn't encrypt them, but it still lets you open them from your file browser of choice. The caveat is that if anyone else gets in there or plugs your phone in to a computer, there may be a chance at finding them.
Nice...
Photo vault works. It's a couple bucks but if you uninstall it or reset you're phone, you have to make them public first or you will lose them

I think your box.net answer is the only good one. As for those pics there is soooooo many ways to access files on your phone, file browser, root explorer, astro file, etc. etc... If someone wanted to find them they could. So if its important to encrypt them or make sure no one sees them the only answer is to "get them off your phone"!! I personally use dropbox for the not so good for the family to view pics and I don't have my password saved so I must enter it everytime I login, they are safe, secure, follow me to any device, and I'm happy. Not to sound at all like an iphone fanboy but apple wins in this category, I miss my photo vault app, touche little piece of fruit... lol

Agree!! The only piece I miss from IP4 is PhotoVault.
Rename the Folder
You can also rename the folder with the "confidential" pictures adding a . at the beginning... In my case my folder's called ".databases" (yeah the less interesting name the better)...
Whenever it's showtime just remove the . and the images/movies will be found by the Media Scanner on the phone...
When you add the . they'll dissappear... Since this complies with linux's way of hidding folders, if you mount the phone into a linux/osx pc you retain the hidden property ;-) Windows is an entirely different matter though
I HATE Zune!
I find it very painfull to use if you have a bunch of un-named songs its just useless.
I miss the days of just dragging and dropping the folders in explorer onto my phone in order to sync my files.
So I have access to the filesystem on my phone using Windows phone device manager, but I still cant locate where WP keeps, Music, pics or videos etc!...
Can someone please help me out.?
EDIT: Just found where it stored my songs and album art. Seems it wont help if I just copying my media into the filesystem Why can't it just have a file called, music, videos etc!!!!)

Because Windows Phone sucks ass, trying to be like the iPhone. They figured that this way you wouldn't share music that you've downloaded with others so they can make more money; same reason you can't freaking send an audio file as an attachment or MMS. People on here are probably tired of hearing me say this but WM kicks WP ass by a long shot, this is why their sales suck.
"I find it very painfull to use if you have a bunch of un-named songs its just useless."
Consider that you are the problem, not zune. Go organize your music library, learn to use a computer, etc etc.
sinister1: WM sales weren't great either...
Why are there two WP haters spamming up this forum?

Maybe this forum would be a better place without "senior" members like you!
And as for me knowing how to use a computer.......the first computer I used was a commodore VIC-20, you probably dont even know what one of them is!
