Hey,
I'm new to the N1 forums and I've just bought a Nexus One!
So anyone care to point me to your must have apps? Like a top ten or something?
Best file manager? Movie player? Compass app? Stopwatch? Twitter client? etc. etc.
I'm also running stock Android Eclair and want to know if it's better to go Froyo or use a custom ROM.
Thanks.

There are several existing threads that cover this subject. Please use the search.
Since froyo is thought to be right around the corner, I would wait it out just a week or two more, then upgrade and see what you want to do as far as unlocking the bootloader, and custom roms, etc.
So far as apps:
Lost of people use Astro File Manager, and Linda. Both are free on the market
Another great app for the Nex is the Nexus Torch, which makes your LED flash from the camera a flashlight haha! SUPER useful.
Astrid is a great, free, to-do list.
ADW Launcher is a KILLER, free, homescreen replacement, that gives you a froyo look, and lots of cool functionality. Cyanogen uses it is his cooked rom for the Nexus, so it comes highly recommended.

Hi
I'm developing an online kitchen for HTC Desire.
The online kitchen (for now) will be 4 steps:
Step 1: Choosing the core rom.
This step will let you choose the core rom (e.g. : DeFrost, The Original Rom from HTC, ...etc)
Step 2: Choosing the programs and services and where to install them:
This step will let you choose prepacked programs and will ask if you want to put the programs in "data\app" or "system\app" and will let you enable some services (like A2SD).
Step 3: Add programs
This step will let you add programs from your computer and upload them into your rom.
Step 4: Cooking the rom
This online kitchen will be free for everybody.
SPECIAL THANKS: l1nuxfre4k
for providing me a hosting to upload this online kitchen
The Online Kitchen will be available after 1 - 2 weeks
Now I want from you to tell me the best apps to add them in the Online Kitchen. And give me the link of the app.
(Only free apps. NOT PAID APPS)
Sounds promising I'll sleep on it and offer my suggestions in the morrow x
great idea buddy... bring it on ASAP.... we are all waiting for this....
Nice one! This sounds great, I look forward to seeing what it's like
This is good news to the community but you might want to try @dsixda kitchen, very easy to use.

Thank you. It's much appreciated.
Excellent idea:
- Handcent
- Advanced task killer
- Slideit keyboard
- back up tool
- Astro file explorer
- Android Agenda Widget
- Fancy widget
- Flashlight app
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Must have apps:
-ROM Manager
-Astro File Manager
-APN Backup & Restore (not everyone can get internet & mms setup automatically)
-Market Enabler (not everyone can access paid apps in the market)
-Google Maps [brut] (for users outside US)
- FM radio
you should include 'Explorer' (i'd say root explorer but it's not free) so we can use bluetooth!!!
Adw.Launcher for starters more when I have thought about it
What about including a choice of themes too?
Sent from my Desire using XDA App
Titanium Backup
Estrongs File Manager
what about Dailer one, Dolphinbrowser, LED Desire, Apps Organizer
ROM Manager i dont use
ASTRO i dont use
LauncherPRO i dont use
That are not must haves =P
Must Have: Set CPU(Please dont include in ROMS)
How about the option to install apps into system/app or data/app.
Thanks everyone for the apps.
Please write FREE APPS only.
You can upload your PAID APPS to your rom in Step 3.

Good suggestion.
I will add this option to the online kitchen.
Dialer One
Launcher Pro
Flash Player
Adobe Reader
Quick System Info
ROM Manager
Spare Parts
Twitter
HTC IME mod by jonasl
OI File Manager (i like it because it's not bloated like others, only ~190kb installed)
Option to remove Navigation, Google Voice, Voice Dialer, Voice Search (these are only available for some countries and languages so for some of us they are useless)
Well anyone can say anothers choices is not a must have, I don't use set CPU so it obviously isn't a must have

Hi Guys, here are some original app collections from ICS, which really works for our X10 in 2.2+ ROMZ. I've tried for me and it's all good !
We talk about :
Android Market 3.2.0 http://www.multiupload.com/1C3D7G2O9Q
Google Music 4.0.1 http://www.multiupload.com/L5YFSZPL3J
Google Maps 5.10.2 http://www.multiupload.com/FMOJZHTT70
Street View 1.7.0.4 http://www.multiupload.com/NDAON6OX70
Google+ 2.0.0 http://www.multiupload.com/55LQG5YBW4
We've got also the ICS Laucher REPLICATE app (unofficial) http://syndicateapps.com/ICS/V1.2.0.0/ICS_2.4_Launcher.apk
-> Install like normal apps.
->For those who can't get it work straight, uninstall previous version, then install the new one and it should work.
->If not,
1. Use Root explorer, go to /system/app
2. Mount the system to r/w.
3. Copy/Paste and Replace apps to /system/app folder
4. Now press & hold app and select Permissions
-tick all boxes in the first column
-tick top box in the second column
-don't tick any box in the last column
5. Reboot, you're done !
Thanks... launcher apk work very fine and smooth.
Hey, as an aside, this isn't actually the ICS launcher. It's one that has been put together to look like it. It's available in the market here https://market.android.com/details?id=mobi.SyndicateApps.ICSv2&feature=search_result
Ta,
Lol epic fail...
That launcher isn't nearly as good as the actual ics one. I'm surprised it fooled so many people.
arrr...i was excited when i saw launcher...but that's not the official one.
Still like the look-a-like launcher and will probably keep it until the real one is posted...
//Static
The launcher is really convincing, you people should try it, really fast and smooth
Sent from my X10i using xda premium
The launcher looks nice, and it's very smooth, but sometimes it crashes in the app menu (you have to install default music player I guess). I know it's not even the real one ported, but it looks kinda' nice.
the launcher & APP is just for SE stock??
I created this thread not only to help those who have root, but to also help those who choose not to root their phones
the first app replaces the Dialer, It's called "Osmino: contact manager"
the second app is very well know amoung the community, called "Chomp SMS", which combined with Osmino makes an elegant duo.
Third, is "WinAmp Free", great music player with an eye catching interface, supports multiple formats
fourth is "Dolphin Browser" because it supports flash by default, which is great since Adobe discontinued Official Android Platform.
fifth: If you're someone who is constantly switching roms, and experience troubles with APN, then download "Offline APN Database" you can browse through by worldwide APN's list, and the app will automatically fill in your APN for you.
Sixth: "Smart Launcher" because of it's Ultralow Memory footprint, and it's ability to theme itself based on 1000+ theme packs, compatible themes:ADW,GO,APEX,NOVA,etc.
good post man. I think im going to check out dolphin browser as I've heard way too many good things about it by now lol
Something else you may want to give a go

I've started using this really nifty app called Swapps, basically what the app does is you swipe the side of your screen(Similar to swipe pad) except, it's kind of like the blackberry Z10, it lists all your apps and has beautiful animations to tie it all together.
As for dolphin browser, I like all the add-ons, supports flash, and my favorite feature, you're able to choose your destination folder for your downloads, which not many mobile browsers do. I can download ZIPS straight to my root directory off the phone :cyclops:
