Another Should I? - Captivate General

Hello guys,
I want to know what you guys think of me trading an iphone 4 16gb for an samsung captivate? Is it an clean trade? don't just say it's apple and it sucks lol..

Hmmm which side of the trade are you on.... I would expect captivate + some cash for the iphone but I would go back to a dumbphone before I used iphone...heck.even my daughter chose the captivate over the iphone 4th with no influence in my part. they are nice, just not for me

Ya i sold my iphone unlocked for 700 bought a captivate for 300. Best choice i made.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App

Iphone + cash would be my suggesttion cuz apple keeps value

Honestly, I feel they should be an even trade. in most aspects they are fairly comprable.
That said, if you can get money out of the deal, do it!

Anyone who trades an iPhone 4 for a captivate even up is nuts. The iPhone 4 is 100 times better but if they're willing to trade you should take advantage of it fast even if you have to kick in a little cash.

Wow....100 times better? I would say hardware wise they are pretty equal, other than I can add 32g external sd....totaling 48, I dont have to use a proprietary charger, so I dont even have to worry about carrying a cord, I can swap out my battery if I somehow happen to find myself without access to a computer or outlet or car, I never have dropped calls, I can get hsupa easily by swapping roms/modems, I can truly multitask, and yes my gps even works....keep thinking I am forgetting something....oh yeah I dont have to gain self worth through a phone and I can even sync my daughters captivate with her itunes on her computer wirelessly....did I mention that I have a smart daughter who does not base her choices on what might make her "cool"
Edit....i just had to let an iphone user connect to my mobile ap because they were having signal problems.....and no I dont have to pay for the tethering plan.... ...too funny

sold my nexus for mytouch 4g ( need some advice please )

hey guys,
i was browsing for almost 2 weeks to know if mytouch 4g is good or not, i had a nexus one and i sold it today to get mytouch 4g or nexus s, i read a lot of comment about nexus s make me go away from it and i read a lot of comment make me love the mytouch 4g, then today after i sold my nexus one i saw this topic
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=894953
i saw a lot of ppl said the mytouch have a fuzzy screen and bad battery life i don't know what to do now please i need some advice, i really don't like to open a new topic because like i said almost 2 weeks browsing and i sold my nexus already to get my touch, some advice please go for mytouch 4g or nexus s .
thanks
All devices have positive and negative points, but it's up to you to weigh them and decide what works best for you.
If you've been browsing for two weeks, then you should know the differences in the screen types and what to look for as well as what to either accept or avoid. Battery life varies depending on use and settings applied, especially for the modders and tweakers that exist in these forums.
Since you are in the Glacier section, I doubt there will be anyone who recommends that you get a Nexus S. In fact, if you read the Nexus S forum, there will probably be the same type of complaints that you find here as well as every other device section. No device is perfect, but to many of us the MT4G is the best of what is currently available on the market.
You will end up in this same predicament no matter which phone you get in the months ahead when yet new phones are released, so choose what ends up making you the happiest for now.
Thanks dude, ur comment is perfect, I always say there no phone will come to us complete, the companies can't do this and if they do this mean they will close, the only thing I am trying to do to improve my phone and get something higher and stay with it for at least 2 years or so, wating for new baby and want to stope spending on crap, that's why I decided to change and sold my nexus.
Thanks again

Man I had the g2 there is no way I would trade for the g2 no way
Honestly I think it's almost a toss up between the NS or MT4G. I have the MT4G and I am absolutely in love with it. Build quality is awesome and has everything you could want. Even camera quality was better than expected. And now that there's more devlopers jumping on this phone then the sky is the limit for this.
BUT, I am very intruged with the Nexus S. I love the SuperAmoled screen on it and I know everyone bags on Samsung phones being made out of plastic, that's what I love about it. Plastic phone = really lightweight. I don't care if it's plastic or metal like the MT4G because I put a case on any phone I get anyways. The MT4G with my little plastic case can be a tad bit heavier than the NS so that's totally up to you if you want a lighter phone or a heavier feel. Right now there is no 720p HD video capture on the NS which to me is mind boggling. I'm sure hackers will find a way around that though. One thing also is that it has no dedicated camera button on the side like the MT4G. For me I love to have a dedicated camera button. Also there's no expandable micro SD card slot in the NS, so take that into consideration as well.
So overall I would give the MT4G the edge, especially that it's 4G capable unlike the Nexus S and also has an optical track pad and most importantly has about 250 more mb's of RAM than the Nexus S. But honestly, you can't go wrong with either. Just play with each of them for like 10 minutes and I'm sure you can make your decision after then.
Hope this helps!
Biggest strike against the Nexus S is Samsung. I came over from a Vibrant and will NEVER purchase another phone made by Samsung. Average hardware (build quality and feel) with HORRIBLE software support. Now, with the Nexus S being a Google experience phone it takes the Samsung software support out of the equation, but it's still not a leap forward by any means (read the reviews).
I will miss the SuperAmoled display, but nothing else.

Get the MT4, the 2nd gen snapdragon makes web scrolling so smooth that once the phone oced to 1.4 you almost feel like iOS.
The cpu in the vibrant or ns on the other hand is a piece of ****, it'll have the best gpu but that cpu makes web scrolling feel like crap. Choppy at best and slideshow in most cases.
Look at the video after 5:00 mark i think, is a joke and i don't have the patience to wait for the development to pick up because AT THIS POINT IN TIME, anything coming out will be better than the NS so in summary if you have almost $600 to burn then yeah go ahead if you value your money then get the MT for cheap and upgrade later on to a better phone.
If you don't mind the branding, MT4 is better than nexus one in many ways.
1. more storage for applications (the most important)
2. wifi calling (it's useless if you don't use T-Mobile)
3. a bit larger screen, but you may encounter quality issue
4. physical buttons (it's also user's preference)
5. 720p video recording
6. secondary cam
You want nexus one if:
1. you have grandfathered internet (t-zones, tmoweb, and total internet)
2. you want minimal branding
3. AMOLED screen
4. fastest possible software update
Agree whith ^ message
It's way worth it to get a cheap my4g and mod it, then upgrade when smth better comes up.
I loove the samoled, but won't give up on 4G for that.
Thanks guys, my point for right now to get a device to stay with me for a little bit i really don't care about gaming and stuff so i am not waiting for Tegra 2, i will go to tmobile store and get the phone from there so if i see this issue in the screen i will return it and get another one till i get good one
I had the Vibrant and I have to say the hardware is awesome. But damn Samsung ruined it with their software. IMHO the MT4G is one of the best if not the best phone on the market right now. It has so much going for it; 4G, FFC, almost double the OC'd speed and CM support.

Iphone 3gs unlocked traded for nexus one...straight up trade
nexus one traded for an iphone 4 32gb, straight up trade
iphone 4 32gb trade for iphone 4 16gb plus $200
iphone 4 16gb sold $500
purchased vibrant for $160.....unlocked it and rooted LOVE it....selling today for $280..... purchased mytouch 4g brand new never opened for $ 275. It has the good screen !! Now trying to decided to if I should unlock it and use it on my current carrier or goto tmobile?
currently: 500 minutes, unlimited text/data....$55 w/ tax. Plus my wife is on this carrier and free minutes. Lot of them to her...
pros... priced for life can & no contract, free minutes to wife
cons: can't upgrade to new phone, have to buy out right. Typically using tmobile phones since 3g services work.
Tmobile.. 500 minutes, unlimited text data, $59.99 plus a 12% discount through employer.
Pros: 4g service, drop internet service at home save $30/month
cons: may have to watch my minutes

[Q] been using the infuse the last couple days

i've been using the infuse for the last couple days and it is freaking sweet. the screen is amazing, puts the captivate to shame. its way snappier when using it. sideloading apps is allowed from the get go. i just want to know if you think it will have as much support from the devs as the captivate had since its not in the galaxy s series. just figured i'd ask before getting one for my daily phone because if theres not going to be as much support for it i will willingly wait for the galaxy 2 thanks for any comments
Judging by most of the knowledge held by devs, and those in android community.. i'd say not that much. Considering the fact that we're mostly holding out for the Galaxy S II variants to be released in the USA (May announcement later this month ) , also AT&T would have to promote the infuse.
Ive been saving since christmas, getting both. Ill be picking up the Infuse when the corp store opens tomorow morning.
att will promote the infuse. it is there flagship phone for now, they already have some accessories for it at the att store, i couldnt even get a case for my captivate for several weeks. also alot leaned on the galaxy s may apply to the infuse. i plan to get one so i can give the captivate to my brother. i would like an sgs2 but if the infuse is cheaper im getting the infuse. i dont need to have the best. the captivate is the first top of the line phone i ever got and i got it because the aria had little storage, no apps to sd and the screen was way to small and sucked in the sunlight, the captivates internal storage alone made the upgrade worth the price, never mind the better headphones, better screen, and way faster processor. also the thinner captivate feels better in the pocket. the infuse may be ginormous but it is very thin which seems to be a bigger factor in pocket comfort.

i know exactly what the infuse is!
i dont mind it being only a minor upgrade. it has other features that i like, including micro hdmi. and i plan to give the captivate to my brother. he wants an android phone to dev on, and he is a good programmer but he is not on his own plan but on a shared plan with my aunt and cant upgrade on his own, also he has no data plan and wouldnt want to be forced into one, i can get the infuse for the same or less than he can get a galaxy s on ebay so it is win/win.
It's a waste of time. SGS II or bust.

they can and they will
since your giving him a captivate which is an ATT phone, they have the IMEI
once they detect it, ATT will use the logic of if you have a smartphoen you must have a data plan and they will shoot you an SMS forcing you into one

You can output that video over HDMI to your HDTV, but you'll need to rely on a dongle and the phone has to be plugged in to the wall while doing it. That's a bit of a bummer.

We’ve got this lovely gigantically bright and delicious (metaphorically) device here for review by the name of Samsung Infuse 4G, and one of the neatest things about it is it’s one of if not THE first phone to employ a dual-function microUSB port that also works with an MHL adapter (also included.) This MHL adapter makes it so you can output to a universal HDMI cable and thusly mirror your display to a much bigger display such as an HD television. There’s a catch though that you might find good or you might find bad – you’ve got to utilize the second port on the adapter to plug in to a power source for the adapter to function.

if his blackberry was origionally sold before september of 2009 he wont have to have the data on it. any smart phone newer than that it will automatically add the $25 data plan when his sim is inserted. its in the terms and conditions for using our service. he can get a terms and service booklet at most stores. they at least have to have 2 on display for customers to be able to read through. its like a 60 page booklet but it will explain it in there. he can use it without a data plan on the go phone network.
Actually you don't have to have a data plan. The only time you are forced into a plan is it you want the discount. I picked up a phone on a secondary line and then switched it to my primary, which wasn't eligible for an upgrade, they didn't lock the secondary line into any data plan.
I also passed a phone to my sister on her plan, requested a data block and she's been using it for months with no issue.
But, if you are using a smartphone without a plan, make sure to block data. Call att csr and request data be blocked. Otherwise you're in for a massive bill...

you seem to know something about this but let me reiterate, the line has "smartphone exclusion" this is to protect users that did not buy a smartphone under contract. no carrier can force features on you if you did not sign a contract saying you would pay for them. because he has never owned a smartphone on contract with an obligation to pay for a data plan they can not force data on this line without my uncles consent, it may nag him with text messages about activating a smartphone on att but as long as that note for smartphone exclusion exists they can not automatically bill the line for a data plan.

512mb system ram like the tablet, it shows 429 available, apparently less video ram than the tab because it still doesnt record in 1080p but it can output 1080p movies over mhl vs the competitors that are upconverting qhd or to 720p or putting out wvga. so it is a nice feature despite the annoying adapter and charger setup. this is where the 1080p confusion comes from in the old ads from janurary.
the driod charge has neither the increased ram nor the hdmi via mhl or faster clock. though it has lte and a normal micro hdmi port that i dont think supports 1080p.
i bought the phone today impulsively but may return it. the price i thought i was looking at tuned out to be untrue, a sales rep quoted me a number that was based off the cancelation fee and a new contract rather than an extention, but i didnt want to lose my phone number or have to try to reapply for my discounts. also i probably was not actually eligable for that cancelation fee being they changed it about the time the captivate came out. lesson here is get everything in writing!
what i will say is though it is not super snappy like some roms i have run on the captivate. it never lags. not even a little while the verizon charge lags more than any sgs i have used. it barely uses the available ram leaving above half of it open so far today. the launcher has configurable home, movable panels from a home screen pinch like the tab, similar functionality with a pinch in the app drawer, alphabetical grid and list as well as cutomizable grid. th escreen is a bit brighter than the captivate even if the captivate has gingerbread. the colors are a bit richer if that is possible.the data speeds are faster even in my area. i now get 5-6 mbps not 2-4. the camera is awesome and there is little functional reason that you need a sgs2 over this. not flaming anyone that flames this thread, i know sgs2 is top of line next gen stuff and it is wayyyyy faster but you are still running a very similar interface and are limited to the same apps with the same camera res the same type of screen. so it comes down to development. this may not become a big dev phone. something to concider. just want to get the information and my oppinion out there even if i get flamed for not getting an sgs2.

[Q] Droid charge, iphone 4 or wait?

I just became elegible to upgrade my phone, I keep hearing things that vz is gonna switch to tiered pricing and would prefer to get locked in before they change things. Really split between those 3 choices, get a charge with it's amazing amoled screen thats larger and customization of android, or go with iphone 4 with it's higher pixel density, built quality and pretty good camera detail, I can always wait for the apple event on the june 6th-10th and risk being closer to tiered pricing.
I looked at dx 2 but I just couldn't get into the whole pentile screen, it just wasn't right for my taste even with a higher resolution.
Get the charge. You can always sell it on craigslist for an iphone 4. Besides iphone sucks lol

I've used every single iPhone every year since Apple initially release it. It wasn't until last summer (2010) that I got on Android. At first I didn't like it; i thought it was pretty complicated, confusing, and too frustrating to use. I didn't like Android 1.8 that was pushed onto the HTC Hero as well. So I went back to iPhone. A week later, I got the HTC Evo 4G. I started to like Android a bit more, but still used iPhone 4 as my "daily beater," if you know what i mean.
Long story short, I LOVE android now. I never want to use another POS iOS software device again. Android is the way to go, buddy.

Question: If you buy the Charge on contract, and let's say in 6 months you want something else, you can't sell it because it's ESN will still be tied to your account till the contract is up, correct?

It's tied to your account until you want to change it, but it requires little to no effort. You can either change either online through the verizonwireless.com portal or by calling customer service.
Once you have changed the ESN/IMEI tied to your account to your new phone, you can do whatever you want with the old phone as it is no longer tied to your account.
There is absolutely no comparison between these two phones. The charge does everything better except iTunes and battery life. Faster phone and way faster network = no comparison.

Well, out of the box, the Charge lags quite a bit. In fact, it's almost to the point where it is unbearable. But the Debloated ED2 solved that problem. There is ZERO lag now.
Android is a hobby, not just a phone, and once you start playing with it, you'll be hooked. iPhone is pretty much a phone for simpletons who just want a smartphone.
The Charge is similar to the iPhone in some minute ways, probably the closest thing to an iPhone on the Android OS. Im trying to sell my iPhone for Verizon now because I just like Android better.
Sent from my SCH-I510 using XDA Premium App
im considering going back to my iphone 4, switching back n forth between the charge and thunderbolt right now .... as someone said, there can be quite a bit of lag with the charge, try adding a widget to your homescreen, takes a really long time to load the menu of choices ... i actually like using the tb more than the charge but can't read the screen very well in sunlight, so i use the charge more...
as for the iphone 4, most of the apps are done better than the android version, no idea why but that's the way it looks to me.... a minus for the iphone 4 is lack of voice integration, sometimes i'm too lazy to type a txt msg, so i just speak it when i'm using an android phone... it can be done on iphone 4 but you have to use 2 programs, just a pain in the ass ...
also, i don't have great eyesight anymore so it's hard to read the fonts on the iphone 4 at times, on my charge i've installed bigger system fonts so i can read pretty much everything without wearing glasses
oh yeah, games run better on iphone 4 than the charge... could be because of the smaller screen on the iphone, angry birds seasons can really lag on my charge..
another plus for android is the 'integration' of things like pics... there is an option to share with many different social networks, email, txt, etc... can be done on the iphone but usually have to use a different program....
all in all, it's a tough choice.... the iphone is really easy to use, has some great apps, and is stable for the most part..
the charge has a really nice screen, not the resolution of the iphone, but still looks great ...
too many choices, lol, hope this helps some.
Yea, what everyone else said in comparison between iPhone and Android OS/Charge is spot on.
If you're not ready to settle for a Charge and a bit unwilling to go back to iPhone/iOS, then you can definitely wait for the SGS2. I picked one up from the grey market (expansys) and I am loving it. Definitely one of the best phones i've ever used.
I would love to get a galaxy 2 but I don't think its even mentioned to coming to vz, I would prefer to stay with vz, been with them for years and am content with the service.
It's like having to choose from vanilla and chocolate but preferring strawberry.
Only concern with going with iphone is I might get renewed in a 3g data and not be allowed to switch to a 4g device without going for the new tiered pricing if thats what they have if I want to sell and change the phone. There's also low quality on youtube video unless I go wifi and it would be more complicated getting my own ringtones in it. Then again the iphone 4 is well built, reliable and stupid proof. Might be harder to unbrick an iphone 4.
You'll only receive biased answers asking this sort of question here - especially given your posting in the Charge sub-forum.
Having owned both the iPhone4 and Charge, I can say they are both great devices. The answer really depends on what you want to get out of your phone. The iPhone has far superior battery life, itunes syncing keepings things simple, the browser is far superior to any Android browser, and overall - the phone just works.
With that said, Android/Charge is the better option in my opinion. I love LTE, much prefer the 4.3" SAMOLED screen, and love that I can easily swap things like keyboards, themes, fonts, etc. I also like how google does not try to tell you what you want, much like Apple does.
If you want to lock in unlimited data, why would you lock in unlimited 3G data? The only phones on your list right now to lock in unlimited data should be Thunderbolt, Revolution, and Charge, and I'd say that the Charge is by far the best of the 3.

The question is when will it come out? I feel like it's coming out later rather than sooner.
Iphone has great build quality.... but that's it
Apple blows. Get the charge

Anyone played with some nes, snes, and psx emulators on the charge? Can it keep up? Is it true you can use Bluetooth gamepads with android phones and any recommendation on a pad? I played with the xperia phone but was not impressed with the screen.
I got my charge this Sunday. I totally love this thing so far, it's not perfect but I am pretty happy with it. I am coming from a touch pro 2 phone. Only thing I miss from the tp2 is that speaker phone was quite a bit louder, and even output volume through usb jack to cassette deck adapter is not as loud as the tp2.
There's some trade off and most are positive. it's a little wider but it's thinner and a lot lighter, I definitely do not miss the extra weight associated with the tp2 and it's keyboard. Screen is responsive, I have not encountered any slowdown with the exception of flash heavy sites. But then again I am not running too much unnecessary junk on the phone.
Battery is usually 2/3 by the time I get back home or 6/7th if I don't use it much. I ended up getting the dock and it's nice, you can charge the phone and at same time an additional battery in a special compartment, don't even need to charge phone. Low battery, please, I just pull one outta the charger pop it in and put the depleted cell in there.
I wish I could force the camera to orientate itself to portrait instead of assuming your taking landscape pictures.
Programs I loaded so far are Google maps., Beautiful widgets, angry bird rio, psx4droid (got lunar 2, ff7 and crash bandicoot warped working), unEcm and linda manager (lets me browse files).
I still got some work to do, I have avoided getting the ed2 update because it intrudes with rooting. I've been content with the phone so far so I don't know if I will bother rooting and doing some mumbo jumbo with some voodoo kernel thing. ( I'm still new to the lingo, supposedly it helps make the phone faster).
Upgrades I am thinking of doing is maybe flipping my memory card and putting the difference towards a class 10 card, I ordered some phantomskin screen protector, meanwhile I got the anti glare one from vz the day I got it but I think it just makes it glitter a bit.
Rooting and the kernel thing are still under question.
I love the contrast.

[Q] Is The Infuse Worth It?

So I have a Captivate and was thinking about upgrading to the Infuse. Is it worth getting? I know it has a better camera and a larger screen, but reviews say that the screen PPI is less than the Captivate and the processor isn't dual core. Just 200mhz faster. So I'm at a crossroads... Keep my Cappy or upgrade?
I personally think it is a great device. i can say one of the best i have own. People make such a big fuzz about screens i honestly done get it. it doenst have one of those cheap phone screens, so im set. i can read my text, videos look good. so im good. its a phone not a computer.
its good phone, it works and functions as it should. so im content. this is my first samsung phone. and im happy. its a great little big device
My first android and im in love. I would recommend the infuse. Unless if ur in the battle between the infuse and sgsII. I still love my infuse though.

I'd say totally worth it, had a captivate running gingerbread and loved it but this blows it away, far better screen, camera(also front facing), gps rocks, love downloading movies from pirate bay straight from my phone and watching them on the big screen with an hdmi. It's really fast, great roms so far and it'll get gb roms really soon... I bought mine for 200 and right now it's only 50 at target! The only downside is the sgs2 will be released next month... Either way both are huge upgrades from the already awesome captivate!

I have the inspire and the infuse, and i really like the infuse better. Its a very snappy phone. The battery life is way better on the infuse, its lighter and the screen is better than the inspire. Now with that said, compared to the Craptivate which was my first android phone the infuse is 100 times better. I have a feeling when we get gingerbread its going to be a great device.

I don't think it's worth it, the specs aren't all that different. (400mhz bump in clock speed, slightly better camera, slightly better screen). I'd wait till August for the S2 at the very least.
I mean, I do love my Infuse.. But let's be realistic.

It all depends, if the main thing you do with the phone is talk and play a couple songs then its not worth it.
But if you do a lot of other stuff with the phone and have an extra $200 bucks to shell out like I did, you can buy a new or near new one on eBay for under $450 and you can sell your captivate for at least $225 if its in good shape and complete. So its not as if you were to shell out $450.
I sold my Captivate for $250 on eBay in less than 2 days about 3 weeks ago.
There is a big difference between Captivate and Infuse.
Since I take a lot of pictures the main thing which comes to mind is the fact that the Infuse has a LED flash, the flash is nothing like a professional strobe BUT without the LED flash, as I am certain you know by now that you can forget about taking decent pictures indoors or outdoors at night.
With the LED flash I get very decent pictures anywhere and anytime as long as the subject(s) is not much further than 7 feet or so from where I stand.
Plus the Infuse also has a front facing camera which is great for video chat using wifi and or 3G. Not to forget that the camera is much better being its 8Megapixels.
And yes the Infuse is not double the speed of the Captivate, but the 20% increase which it does have is nothing to sneeze at either. It is noticably faster. The speed difference is most noticable when playing action games and when you surf the web.
Perhaps 4G is in your future? if it is, the Infuse has that too.
Plus you can record and watch 720p videos then connect the phone to big screen tv using the mini hdmi adaptor which comes with the phone.
All in all its well worth the couple hundred bucks difference.
If you do plan to buy one, I would suggest you do it as soon as you can because the longer you wait the less money you will be able to sell the Captivate for on eBay or anywhere else.
I wanted to write about the big 4.5 inch SCREEN last, that in my mind is such a huge difference that if everything else was the same on both phones and the only difference was the screen size I would have still purchased the Infuse..
A half inch does not sound like much at all, but when you consider something so small to start with as a 4 inch screen and then you add a half inch to that, it makes the Infuse screen approx 20% larger.
Not only is the screen larger, but it uses a much newer Super Amoled Plus screen technology which really rivals the iPhone screen as far as resolution goes, its way better than the Captivate. Infuse is much better on the eyes for people who spend a lot of time using all the features of the phone.
Well thats about it........... That's my review and comparison between Captivate and the Infuse phones.
Good luck!
Infuse it is
Thank you guys for your opinions! Putting up the Cappy up for sale now. And if you know anyone who wants to buy one, well you know I'm selling!

Walmart price matches. If they say that they can't, then they are lying or don't know anything.

I also upgraded from the Cappy, And I'm completely lovin' the Infuse. Even tho the SGSII is releasing, I'm probably gonna stick to this bad boy. (Maybe). But still Cappy or Infuse both are great phones, Infuse just knocks the captivate out with more upgraded features. Its like BumbleBee in transformers, The old Camaro, the to the new camaro.

I have had or used several phones lately:
BlackBerry (Sets the Standard, but I don't see BB keeping up with the trend)
HTC Tilt 2 (The best speakers),
Moto Razor (Still going strong after 5 years) Wife loves it
Samsung Blackjack 3 (wore the paint off the keyboard)
Moto Atrix (Fast phone and very nice)
HTC Inspire (just keeps getting better)
Infuse (The best screen out there)
My favorite of all is the Infuse, except it doesn't make Chai Latte' with a dash of cinnamon and nutmeg.
There are hundreds of phones out there to choose from for hundreds of different needs, likes and dislikes.
There are a lot of critics over cell phones, but any of the top brands and top models are going to be just right for someone. Manufactures are cranking out new models faster than the first recharge. The Infuse I have is an engineering marvel. You just can't beat Samsung, HTC, Motorola, Palm, BB, LG, Nokia, Apple, etc.
I still have an old Qualcomm from around 1995. I keep it as a reminder of how far phones have come in just a few years.
The Infuse is a top-of-the-line SmartPhone. The only complaint I have about it is: No External LED notification lights.
The hottest phone I'm hearing about and reading about is the Samsung Galaxy S II 4G

nothing wrong with the ol cappy, nor the infuse. hell verizon customers need to make a choice, tegra2 or lte. all the lte phones have single core 1ghz processors. all the dual core phones are 3g. they had to either drop or delay the bionic due to heat issues. instead they released a 3g droid x2 with the tegra chipset.
id rather have a nice thin samsung than all that stuff they have on verizon, and i can do without the sgs2 for now. ill get next years varient though im sure. i cant keep a phone for 2 years anymore. i have an obsession.

At least I know I'm not alone anymore
For some reason I always feel the need to upgrade my phone every 6mo or so. Right now have the iPhone so it makes it easier to stay with 1 phone for a full year. Android moves so quick that I'm always trying to find that perfect phone that does everything imaginable for me.
I sell mobile phones for a living and every time I unbox an Infuse and fire it up I'm blown away. I prefer Samsung phones, had the Vibrant and Nexus S. Currently I have a G2x and I couldn't be more disappointed. I'm so close to switching over to the Infuse....

The Infuse is my first Android. I switched over from an iPhone 3G. And oh my goodness what an upgrade it was. I can never go back to an iPhone with it's baby-sized screen. The Infuse is one of my best purchases ever and I have not looked back since. I thought I could never live without my iPhone. Then came my Infuse and 2 days later, I sold my iPhone with no regrets at all. Go with the Infuse. It is amazing. And Netflix just released for it, making it even sweeter.

Thinking about upgrading to the Skyrocket

Hi,
I have a Samsung Captivate (running AT&T stock 2.3.5, unlocked) and am almost about to pull the trigger on the Skyrocket (late to the party.. I know). What am I getting into? I keep reading about ICS delays, unable to root, unlock etc. Is it worth it?
I thought about waiting for S3, but maybe not.
Go ahead, do your best, talk me out of the S2 Skyrocket..
Regards
Nick
Don't get the Skyrocket, your better off waiting for the S3 for sure, or the HTC One series, basically our phone, although a great one, sadly has little to nothing going for it anymore versus any new phones coming in the next few months, basically there's no point getting the Skyrocket anymore. Hope that helped.

Which one specifically from HTC? I love the Samsung screens. Have noticed that the HTC screens looked "washed out" - is that still the case?
Well it depends what carrier you're on, no one knows for sure which phones from the One series are gonna land on what carrier, but ATT will probably get the higher end One X, while Sprint might get the One S. Also I think the new HTC phones use Super LCD 2, so might not be that bad, worse than AMOLED tech for sure but probably fine tbh. Also I think the new Sony Xperia phones are coming out too, those might now have the craziest specs but they're really nicely designed and are gonna have some of the better cameras to be on phones this year For those you'll want thr Xperia Ion, look it up it's a beautiful device ^^
I have had my Skyrocket for about a month and love it. I rooted it and removed a bunch of the AT&T and Samsung stuff, but it is otherwise stock.
I came from the Dell Streak/Venue family of phones. They worked very well but the Streak was too big (5 inch screen) for everyday use and the 4 inch screen of the Dell Venue was just too small. The 4.5 inch screen of the Skyrocket is just right for my needs.
The Skyrocket is very snappy and unless I have a heavy use day the battery lasts all days for me (12-14 hours). Today has been light use, almost none really, and the battery is at 73% after 13 hours. Most days I am in the 25-30% range after 18 hours.
I use Launcher Pro as my home launcher and am not big on widgets that update. I do not use twitter or facebook, but do have 3 push email accounts that I use K-9 for. My biggest non-phone uses are as an e-reader (Kindle, Nook) and as an mp3 player (usually wired directly to the vehicle radio*).
I use the GPS 4 or 5 times a week to check traffic with Google maps or look for alternate routes due to an accident. The gps locks fast and I have had zero issues with it.
Right now a refurbished Skyrocket is $20 with a new contract at the at&t web site. This is what I paid for mine.
* For the connection to the vehicle radio I use a Scosche cable. It includes a mic and makes the phone hands free.
what phone to wait for...

Good suggestions ideas and experiences already posted, I thought I'd share how my wife now enjoys her new Samsung Galaxy Note. It is HUGE. Too big for me to carry in my pocket so I'm stickin' with my skyrocket. She has a purse instead of a pocket, and her eyes are even worse than my own so a bigger screen was a no brainer. It's a nice phone, that note, it sure is. Nice big screen, seriously.
This skyrocket I use is pretty darn good, suits all my needs. I rooted it with no problem, and I flashed a version of cyanogenmod on it, and it's flawless. Cyanowiz it's called here in the forums for skyrocket. It eliminates all the AT&T carrier IQ, so I can turn on the wifi hotspot and let my friend at work use it, as his Sprint service and signal is sub-par, and it makes his iphone 4 go faster. Downside of showing off like that is it blows the lid off my tiered data plan.
(no ICS yet, heard it was buggy anyway)
I'm not sure how much better a device can get, I hear rumors of an Iphone 5 and mentioned by you is a S3? Cool! Perhaps hanging in there with the captivate a bit longer will yield an even faster more modern device.
I'll just say the difference between the skyrocket and the captivate is a dual core processor and yes it's faster, but if we're talkin' out of pocket expense as something to consider, it pays to stay a tad out of date and content with what you already have! If you're eligible for upgrade, you're also eligible to kick AT&T to the curb with no extra cost and consider other carriers. I'd talk to neighbors and friends about the performance of Verizon etc, instead of automatically just starting a new 2 year contract with AT&T, check all your options.
Hope that helps decide.
Get what you want...end of story
Don't worry to much about what others want or think. If you wait for the S3 which I admit will be awesome....how long till it is obsolete or "old" about 3 months. then everyone will want the "samsung/htc/??? Universe infinity blackhole 7" that is all the time you really have being the latest and greatest.
I love the skyrocket and I'm sure i'd love the S3 or note or any "current" phone. You get what you want, but hey if your buying I'll take a Note, not sure why though lol, XDA is a great place to look around and see the communities before you choose.
Skyrocket isn't worth it anymore, get the note.

Yes.. I am looking at $20 for the refurb. Hopefully refurb means somebody just returned it because it was too much power in their hands rather than beat the crap out of the phone and send it back...
Will probably stick to At&T due to GSM (I travel internationally once every few months). Will probably get the phone unlocked a few weeks after getting it.
Samsung Note feel too big.. is it?

March / April are the worst months for buying laptops, desktops and phones.
It's the end of the quarter and all the new stuff is about to come out and all the old stuff is already almost a year old.
Why do you want to pay regular price for old hardware? That's like buying a blackberry.
