Was just offered a MT4G or Samsung Vibrant.. - myTouch 4G General

The speed on my Vibrant (I'm within my remorse period) is not an issue and it has been working just fine for over a week now. No freezes and no amount of lag to complain about at all. I don't have a data service since I'm usually always around spots with WiFI so the data features on the MT4G are nice and MIGHT come in handy whenever I decide to add a data plan but not at this moment. I miss the LED indicator which the Vibrant does not have and I would love a FFC and LED flash but I'm in LOVE with the Vibrants display and I guess I can live without the LED/FFC although it would be nice to have. Opinions?
BTW, I paid 50 bucks for my Vibrant from T-Mobile. I'll be paying the same amount for the MT4G.

honestly i thought i would miss the display too but after about a day i forgot all about it

From someone who has a Vibrant and MT4G (I will eventually have to pick one, but have both for now), you will find the MT4G screen is absolutely garbage infront of the Vibrant's. The LCD on the MT4G looks washed out and low quality when compared to the SuperAMOLED on the Vibrant. So, the Vibrant has its fair share of problems (one of my biggest problems is terrible battery life) but the screen is unmatched and if you have used a Vibrant, you will feel like you are downgrading when using the MT4G (in regards to the screen).
Oh and the MT4G is noticeably heavier than the Vibrant. It isn't that the MT4G is "heavy", but rather it is that the Vibrant is light.

I actually like the MT4G's screen better. It displays text MUCH sharper. Text is very pixelated and blocky on the vibrant.
Anyway, the MT4G is the better phone. Faster all around and has many more features.

I personally don't get what all the hubub about the display is. Yes, it is incredibly nice. But it's not as though we had Nokia 6600 screens on our phones before the Vibrant. The screen on the MT4G seems to be just as nice to look at as the Nexus, Droid Incredible, Droid Eris, or any of a multitude of other phones out there, that people seem to be really happy about.
Why didn't we hear any of this back in the G1 days?
"Man, I like the G1. But I just can't give up the screen on my iPhone/3G."
or
"Man, the Nexus is really tight, and all, but after using the HD2, I just can't go back to a screen smaller than a PSP." (ok, that was hyperbole... but you get what I'm saying)
And I'm not accusing you of doing this. Thi sjust seems to be an argument that is made time and time again by hardcore Vibrant fans.

This is my biggest Issue, Will I miss the SAMOLED??

Ok, ask yourself this:
Do you have an HDTV? Is it 120Hz? 240? If so, does it make your stomache turn to look at a regular, or less-than-1080p tv? Do movies in theaters look like trash to you?
If not, then don't fall for the "This is the latest thing, and before you had this your life was meaningless" nonsense. Yes, if you read posts about how much better the screen is, on a daily basis, you will find yourself comparing the two. And, as such, you will probably start feeling as though you miss it. But were you really unhappy about your screen's display before you got the Vibrant? Did you find yourself longing for an S-Amoled screen, even though we had no idea what one would look like before seeing the Vibrant? Probably not.
I bet I can tell you what you WON'T miss, though.
A lack of led notifications.
A lack of Flash.
A lack of an FM radio.
A lack of pc sync. (Kies? Really?)
A data port/charging port that was brilliantly place on the top of the phone.
The drag-your-feet manner in which Samsung makes updates available to their customers.
The inexplicably convoluted RFS files system, which inevitibly causes lag on the phone.
And possibly a few other things. But, again, not trying to point fingers, or sound accusatory. Just sharing my opinion. And, by the way, I did love the display. But the only time I really miss it is when I read about how great it was.

^ completely agree.
I'm coming from a Nexus One into G2 into the myTouch. When I first started using the myTouch, I couldn't help but frown as the screen didn't look as crisp or clear as the G2's. But this phone won me over with all it's other features and impressive hardware. That, and I actually like Sense whereas TouchWiz made me think I was playing with a toy.

+1... and add to the list the HSDPA+, FFC (eventhough you won't use it, it's still better to know you have it in case you need it) and 256MB of extra RAM... phones are not meant for watching movies.. and it's not like movies are unwatchable on MT4G.. as it's still gorgeous! i think when it comes to phones, you have to look at the features and the sturdy feel on the device, which in my opinion the samsung lacks compared to MT4G.. now if you're comparing MT4G to DESIRE HD, now that's a different story.. that belongs to the other thread..

Coming from the Vibrant I must say how extremely happy I am. I had a totally modded Vibrant to get the speed that the MT4G has right out of the box. The battery life of the Vibrant is horrible. The MT4G is a beast............extremely happy to have my MT4G.....oh yea after 3 to 4 days you get used to the screen, I dont watch movies on it so not that big of a deal me.

Maybe I wanted opinions from different follks? Not everyone knows about XDA. My bad for being excited for my new 50 dollar device. =)

I came from the G2, I don't really notice the difference in the screen and I don't think you can unless you put them next to each other. I know the Vibrant has a better screen but all the new benefits and 4G and more RAM and now with root this is a great device. The feel is really good and the battery life is not better than the vibrant.

I can't say, unfortunately. The one I got had dust underneath the screen so I returned it the next day, only playing with it for an hour or so. I am currently waiting on my replacement which should be here tomorrow (free express shipping ftw). There are advantages of ordering via retention, but the lead time on exchanges is not one of them.
That said, I was extremely disappointed in the screen of the first MT4G -- it looked very washed out and low quality. I hope it was a defective screen because otherwise I think I may just end up going back to the Vibrant.

Am I crazy? I want to exchange for a Nexus One...

Captivate is a bigger, better-spec phone. And it's new! I just had it for a little bit over a month.
But I am thinking about exchanging it for a Nexus one... a used N1... Am I crazy?
My reasons...
1. Nexus one is beautiful! Whenever I look at my phone, I can't stop thinking it as a thinner and bigger Blackberry storm (which I don't like). It's just not as sexy as the other phone in the market.
2. Better support. Already on 2.2. Stock OS. No dealing with Samsung anymore. No stupid waiting anymore...
I am kinda serious. I actually look it up on craigslist and try to see if there is anything...

Well if he can find one, more power to him. And he can rock Cyanogenmod at least.
My friend has a Nexus One, and it's a great phone, but I wouldn't trade my Captivate for it. Our screens are nicer, our GPU is better, and I haven't had any issues with GPS. Just wished we had an optical track pad (don't think the trackball would match our phone). Both phones are great. If you really can't stand the BB Storm look, you're not gonna go wrong with the Nexus One.
I mean both are great phones and the luxury of first updates is nice and it does look fun in the nexus forum lol
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Short answer: Yes, you are crazy.
Long answer: Nothing against the Nexus One, I do like it, but I would never trade a captivate for it. Better processor, better screen, better multitouch, and I actually think the phone looks nice; several people have commented that they think it is sexiest phone ever and they want one (talking about Captivate in this sentence). I do not care much Samsung's support either, but I can wait for froyo.
You are pretty crazy, be a little patient for 2.2 + gps fix.
The epic is out, the fascinate is out tomorrow, and this phone is better in all ways.
Summary:
Galaxy s family dev support/share (captivate,vibrant,fascinate,epic)
Better screen, gpu/proccesor, and speed!
Captivate is the sexiest variant imo (not a fugly blackberry storm)
did I mention stock JH2 + sre = about 1900 quadrant w/o lagfix 0,o
can you imagine 2.2 (optimizations, all usage of ram, and the NEW lagfix that will make the whole phone ex2/4!?)
Yeah it'll be extreeeeeeemely fast
i wouldn't exchange my captivate for an n1, but i wouldn't mind owning one on the side to tinker with...
I have never understood why people get so hung up on what the hell their phone 'looks' like. Is it more important that someone sees you using a phone that looks pretty or the fact that you have a phone that does what you want and has the powerful hardware underneath to back it up? I really wish someone would explain it to me, lol!
Personally, have had the Nexus One and the Captivate. The screen (due to thinner glass layer) is sooooo much better on the SGS its not funny.
Never liked the trackball on the Nexus. I hated the power button which had a mind of its own so I would use No Lock from the market, which would get activated in my pocket by the trackball (lol)).
The SGS does have a better processor (that always helps I suppose). Froyo out of the gate is fantastic but how bad will you feel if the update comes along the day you change over?
Go with whatever you want as you ultimately will

Well, it's because the "powerful hardware underneath (it)" is pretty much the same. All the high-end smartphones have quite similar specs. They are all more than capable to "back it up".
Besides, this is the tech world. "Powerful hardware" is always a relative term. Your powerful phone might be out in just a couple of months.
But the design could be very different. It's the thing you have to look at every day for the next 18 months.
Hope it explains to you.

Love the Tbolt..But..

I love the phone in everyway...but...Im disappointed with the screen. I had a Fascinate before it, and while everything about it sucked, the screen was beautiful! I guess i got spoiled with the amoled. Whats everyone elses opinion here. Im contemplating returning it, hoping the bionic has a better screen.
yeah, the Thunderbolt's screen doesn't even come close to the Fascinate. I had the two side-by-side last night and the difference especially at max brightness was quite noticeable. I also noticed that angry birds isn't as smooth and fluid on the Bolt as the Fascinate but other than that, the Thunderbolt easily outdoes the Fascinate.
I guess the amoled screens are too expensive to manufacture. I will not even consider the stealth from sammy. I have given up with them as a cellphone manufacturer...the fasc is STILL running eclair...A big FAIL on sammies end.
At least we wont get screen burn in's like amoled gets.
i went from an iPhone 4 to an evo, so dropped resoultion going to a bigger screen, and actually thought it looked great, to then this phone, and I have to say, the screen on this phone for me is fantastic. I think it is maybe a little to warm sometimes, as when showing flesh tones, but I would assume that like for the evo, we will be able to change that over time.

no, this happens among all the carriers. Samsung is the slowest cell phone MFG to release updates for their current phone models. Unless the list changed, and I would have to go find it on engadget, HTC was the highest, and above samsung by a good deal.
I know what you mean coming from the Incredible. But I've gotten used to the slcd just don't look at your other for a while. I think its pointless to look for perfection especially on a phone screen. You'd need a color calibrated broadcast monitor for perfection. One thing i noticed is the slcd is much better in direct sunlight. So a little less brightness and clarity keeping in mind I can't really notice at normal viewing distances and the fact that you can see the screen outside seems like an ok trade off. (Yes if you hold it really close to your eyes and study it you can but... Just my thoughts on it.

Went out for a walk yesterday w/the Bolt using Cardio Trainer, my god it was impossible to see the screen in the sun ... didn't feel like trying to tweak settings, make brighter, etc., while I was on the move - but will do so next time before I start the run just in case I want to see where I'm at.
I definitely notice a difference between the AMOLED Incredible (my wife's phone, formerly mine) and the TB. The colors are off - too brilliant in the wrong way. Blues are purplish and Reds are off too. Its even worse when comparing to the iPhone, which is what I have been carrying lately. Not happy with it - the crispness of the iPhone makes this look blown out. As my wife said "It's like the iPhone is HD and the Thunderbolt is SD." The additional real estate is nice, but definitely prefer the Inc AMOLED and the iPhone Retina.
Ooof.
Wonder if Verizon will follow suit with Sprint. An LTE Nexus S would be money.
Its not like its your living room featured TV. You guys must have some superb vision or something, but I am satisfied, but some people you cant just please.

I don't personally do video/photo editing on my phone or watch movies, which is the only reasons I could think of a screen truly mattering. I have the DROID Incredible currently w/ the AMOLED and well generally I can't really tell any functional difference between it and the Thunderbolt screen I played with in a Verizon store after ordering one for myself (arrives tomorrow).
I am a bit of a video/audiophile but only on things like my TV & computer monitors, but can't see why it'd matter for such a small screen either.
Has anyone had any experience w/ the Thunderbolt in direct sunlight? I can't see anything on my Incredible when it's in the sun. I could at least get a vague idea w/ my old iPhone 3G... which I find a more important factor than the color quality/pixel density on a phone.

I get what you are saying, but your cavalier dismissal ignores the fact that other devices exist that have superior quality. Its not like I am wishing for something ideal that isnt possible. One might expect that when paying top dollar for a "flagship" device you would get some good quality hardware. Not saying the device is flawed, just that the screen definitely isnt as good as phones that came a year before it.
As for properly functioning software, I doubt you could argue that this is functioning perfectly - maybe for you it is and maybe my experiences are anecdotal but I and my coworker are experiencing random reboots, problems with calendar sync, and data transfer problems where you have to reboot to resume connection. I will also volunteer that our Verizon rep said she is seeing very high return rates on the Thunderbolt due to software issues. Again, maybe anecdotal and maybe "some people you just can't please" but sometimes good enough isnt enough in the face of alternatives that work better out of the gate.

The amoiled screen has a amazing color saturation; however the low subpixel count makes text look very pixelated. I much prefer the slcd screen for viewing web pages. Makes the small text so much clearer. I had the Nexus S prior to this phone and I think the Thunderbolt is much nicer overall, including the display (for my usage).

The bionic will have a better qhd screen but if it is like the atrix then it I'd using the pentile matrix and will more than likely look even more "fuzzy" than the bolt. Do a Google search for arstechnica pentile matrix they have a great article on it and after using super lcd on my incredible (I had the amoled version as well and the nexus one) I much prefer the super lcd to any amoled with pentile. Plus the bionic won't even have the better colors like amoled. That is a big fail on motorola for making their first qhd screens pentile. I have to believe the screen on the thunderbolt will have to look better.
OK, there is definately major variences between screens on different phones. I just got a replacement for a dead speaker, and well...the screen has much more contrast, and does not wash out much at an angle. Im suprised to see such a difference between the 2.
I actually love this screen. I came from the Nexus One AMOLED screen and I prefer the TBolt. The screen is brighter on the Tbolt and the colors are just ever so slightly less saturated than the AMOLED which is actually a good thing in some cases(movies and skin tones)
I'm with you, I miss the blacks of my amoled dinc.

For those on the fence about this phone - Get it!

This is for those on the fence about whether to get this phone or wait for something else, because I was one of those people up until earlier today.
The screen is GORGEOUS! The qHD resolution is heaven-sent.. and I don't even go to church! You will appreciate the extra real estate as soon as you visit any webpage and definitely if you read on the Kindle app. After seeing how amazing this qHD display has proven in only a day's use, I could never see myself going back to a smaller resolution screen.
Videos play flawlessly and the detail is more crystal clear than your eye can see. I really don't know how to better describe it. I am still literally in awe.
The phone's build quality is simply superb. No creaking anywhere.. Anywhere! ..and it doesn't feel as big as you might think. It's about the same size as my MT4G, yet it has a screen half an inch bigger!
The external speaker finally reminds me of the one on the SGS. It's really good. I was pleasantly surprised.
Only place I'm not impressed is with the camera. I just don't see much of a difference, if any at all, between the Sensation's 8mp camera quality and those from the MT4G's 5mp camera :-!
Overall, I am very satisfied. (Coming from a MT4G which was a great phone too).. I am surprised at the people returning it because they felt underwhelmed. What more do you expect from a phone? I say get this phone -- it is the best on the market right now.
Edit- I forgot to mention the wifi-n capability. I get a full wifi signal now where I used to get a weak signal with the MT4G. Whatever it is, it's a welcome addition.
Also pinch to zoom on webpages is smooooooooth
Couldn't agree with you more. I just exchanged my G2X for this today.
It's a fantastic display and for me is much much better for messaging and typing in general as well. The G2X was a beast, but there were so many people with screen bleed, including myself. I thought I could live with it, but it really did wash out the top part of the screen way way too much. I thought about living with that display for 2 years and the decision was easy.....qHD super LCD FTW
Sense is sexy in many ways....laggy in others.
LED notification is great to have again.
But again...you're absolutely right....the display is just gorgeous!
The dust under the screen that some people have is beyond bizzare for a high end device maker. Hope I don't get any. So far, no dust, no dead pixels.
Oh, one more huge thing for me was the fact that this does 1080p @ 30fps as opposed to 24fps on the G2X.
Ohhhh....Ive also found that the Sensation resizes text better than I've ever seen a touchscreen device do with pinch to zoom. Don't know if its Sense or Gingerbread or what, buts its a wonderful web experience on this here beauty.
Love it!
Yea, the text its soo crisp it's crazy! Are you planning on getting a screen protector for yours? It's soo beautiful I would cry if the screen was scathed in any way lol.. I do trust the Gorilla Glass as it held up perfectly when I had the N1 and SGS though.
Also, have you seen any trailers on the HTC Watch app? O... M... G... The quality seems like 1080p video on a LED tv =O I'm still shocked at how clear this display is!
hm.... not really being a$$ or an apple fanboy, but your impression on the qHD screen really makes me wonder about ur opinions towards iphone4's retina resolution.

Man this is a tough choice, both are really good phones. Each have their pros and cons. I do think the screen on the sensation is a little bit nicer but not enough that it makes that much of a difference. I do like the fact that with qhd screen you can see more text. Decisions, decisions...
I picked up the HTC sensation and I own the G2X as well and love both! Only problem is locked bootloader

G2x or sensation
So far so good wit the sensation. No randoom reboots, phone hangs up when press end to end phone calls, no light bleeding issues. These are a few of the issues of the g2x right out of the box. Comparing to the Sensation which is just superb straight out of the box. Good riddance to the g2x which is a close 2nd to the hd2 as the worst phone I have ever owned. These are my opinions. By the way i went through 6 g2x phones and they all had the same problems. Bottom line the phone (sensation) WORKS!!!!

funny how peoples experiences are different... The sensation is awesome, but other than minimal screen bleed the g2x has been awesome, and I had 3 total, all awesome... Again sensation is awesome too, just weird how different our experiences were...
Coming from a Samsung Vibrant, I appreciate the added resolution, awesome build quality, and screen size, but I miss the awesomeness that was the AMOLED screen.
For me it comes down to reliability. The Sensation is way more stable than the G2X. And let's be honest, the update that they are saying is on the way..they are hoping it fixes the problems it has. Let's be real, I'm sure they didn't plan to have the problems they have now, just like they don't plan to have anymore problems after the update. There's no guarantee that the update will fix what ails the G2X. That alone is enough reason for me to stick with the Sensation. I've had the Sensation now for about 8 days now and I have yet to have my phone freeze or crash...same can't be said about the G2X. That makes the decision easy for me.
What really erks me is that we spend, like in my case full price for a device that should be ready or close to ready out of the box to be a functional stable phone. The one thing that g2x owners have in common is that we all returned several g2x's back because they were defective. The bottom line is reliability, which the g2x does not have and thats why I have a sensation.

Yea the retina display is nice.. but it's way too small for my liking.. and yes heaven-sent lol.. It is just soo much easier/ faster to navigate pages and I find myself scrolling a lot less. That was one of the issues I had with things like reading the NYTimes site on previous phones -- too much scrolling.
It may not be an issue for others, but I do a lot of reading and writing papers for school on my phone, on the train, for example. Seeing so much more on the screen without having to scroll definitely makes it easier for me
Btw, I was at a TMobile store minutes after they opened, on the G2X launch date, but I wasn't sold on it mainly because of the hype of the Sensation and the GSII made me want to wait for those instead. So the phone felt underwhelming and I wasn't really blown away by anything it had over my then MT4G, to justify spending $500. I even went back twice, but resisted buying it. I'm so glad I waited for this instead.
What really sold me here over the G2X is the slimness and style of this phone. The Sensation and G2X are about the same size! Yet, the screen on here is about 1/3" bigger and with the better resolution too. I hated all of that that empty space at the bottom of the G2X and how the buttons seem so huge. And after seeing comparison reviews and videos, I held out for this one.
But if you guys prefer the G2X better, I'm not hating. Enjoy it. I just honestly don't see any areas where it has an advantage over this phone.
Couldn't Agree More
Just my two cents (I finally created an XDA profile just to get a post out there about my Sensation experience so far!):
The people on this forum really dampened my expectations on his phone. All the talk about benchmarks, comparisons to the GS2, etc. are quite discouraging to folks on here... Almost to the point where I considered changing carriers or waiting another N months for the next set of phones to come out.
However... I am so happy that I didn't go that route. This may be because I'm coming from a myTouch 3G / HTC Magic that was almost inoperable at the time of my Sensation purchase, but I am extremely impressed with this phone. You really gotta go mess around with one if you're on the fence - the form factor is sooo sleek, the screen beautiful, and the UI seems snappy as hell to me. Being a developer, and concerned with performance, I do hope it's rooted soon, but I'm enjoying Sense 3.0 much more than I expected to.
Cheers!

I can understand what you mean. There are a lot of anal retentive people on this site who have nothing else going on so they nitpick any phone they purchase. I don't understand the logic of a person that looks for problems. For example, I saw a thread on here a few days ago from a person who's thread said something to the effect of, "hey I just got a Sensation..what problems should I look for?" Now when I saw that I'm thinking, why the hell would you be looking for problems? Just use the phone, and if there's a problem you will notice it. I saw another thread yesterday, where the poster was saying that he was concerned about the lens inside of the front-facing not being perfectly centered inside the hole....It's always something with these guys. Try not to let them damper your enthusiasm for any phone because they will if you allow them to. Some of these people on here would find fault if Jesus released a phone...

+10. The nitpicking in this forum is ridiculous. You might assume from reading countless threads that the handset is faulty. Not even close. The G2X complaints were valid, but not with the Sensation. Pick it up and you'll immediately understand why they called it the Sensation. It really is that nice. The build, screen, and all around feel is absolutely stellar. Really couldn't understand the disconnect between these threads and the actual device. Benchmark junkies please help keep these forums clean and move on to a new device.
For those always worried about benchmarks (I don't care about benchmarks), I heard that the benchmark apps aren't updated to read the 2nd core yet (or something like that).

Full Week review after owning the G2x first

First off this isn't another comparison to the G2x thread, but more of a Thank God I switched for the sensation thread.
The sensation Is gorgeous. At first it looked funny to me, but then, it started to look and feel like my old N1 (the back anyways). I love the design. The shell that completely cases the screen is awesome. The way their back is half the phone is incredible. Only thing id change is id put speakers on the bottom, I loved that about the G2x.
Speed is awesome. Yes its not as wham bamm boom boom like the g2x fast, but it is consistent in speed and its plenty fast enough considering the amount of recources the phone is using,( I.E. Sense and bloat). Like someone else mentioned also, its almost as if the apps on the sensation load faster, respond faster, etc. That could be due to the extra .2 ghz i guess.
Camera completely destroys the G2x. If camera was your strong point on the g2x, well the sensation has just as good of app for the camera and takes a pic a hell of a lot faster than the g2x. Although I think the G2x FFC is light years ahead of the grainy Sensation FFC. G2x actually took sweet FFC pics.
The Video camera is great. I love how if you get out of focus at any point, just touch the screen and let it refocus. the g2x wouldn't refocus worth a turd.
GPS is also better than the G2x. At first g2x was good, but then it just started taking longer to get locks.. Pissed me off. The sensation so far is a steady 5 seconds.. My tracks was also very nice. SO happy
Battery. Honestly Ive never really seen a difference in any of my phones.lol From the Htc touch, tp1, tp2, n1, vibrant, hd2 etc. They all seem to have the same general heavy use time (constant) but so far IMO its about the same is my G2x, but I was one with great battery on the g2x so that's saying the sensation has it good.
screen is awesome as well. WE all know there are 2 types and honestly I could really care which I get. Its not the selling point to me in the phone. Anyways its nice. The 4.3 really don't feel that big from the way they cut down on surrounding material beyond the screen. They fit it very nice into a little for factor and IMO the design of the back is how they achieved this.
This is my first sense device. Ive never been a fan cause it was to bloated and just wow. Sense 3.0 seems nice. Theres a lot to customize, but things are very organized and laid out nicely. Im still kinda learning the ropes, but all around I think its a darn stinking good UI, YETTTTT is a little hard on the battery.
Damn Damn Damn, Did I say Damn? I wish we had root. I need Screen shots, remove bloat, and download some of those cool apps that I didn't know even took root, until I re downloaded them and it denied me access. lol Who knew root was so important. lol. Although Im getting along without it.
Reception is good. My g2x struggled here and my sensation does much better. So 2 thumbs up for that shiat stew.
General bugs i've noticed are Just a ****ass piece of dust under the screen like 5, but honestly there so small that most people wouldn't (I read the smallest line at doctors that they dont even use on the test, just did if for ****s and giggles) see it and trying to get it replaced would be dumb since they probably wouldn't see it and Ive got all together a flawless device. I also never see them, period. Unless I'm in the sun and got all the other dust off (which is hard cause it instantly comes back, and even then, if you screen has em on em anyways, who cares about a few underneath unless it grows) and searching I cant see em. There is the Wifi bug, but I never experience it. you literally need to block the back, but it wont just do it anytime, its only when signal is weak for me. Almost like they got the DB vs Bars wrong, (if wifi uses even DB). Other than that. I have nothing wrong with mine.
The g2x man. Started out ok. GO to market place while on wifi, and it kicks you off wifi although still shows the wifi bars. Basically it just switched to data until you toggled back. I hated how the browser barely scrolled, to go down a long page you had to finger fuk the **** out of the screen. The camera was not the best for a 8 mp, and the video was pretty choppy. Then theres the screen bleed that at first didn't bug me, then it just was noticeable. My phone was solid though other than those issues, no reboots, until about 5 weeks later. Then it would happen probably every 2 days.
All in all if anyone is on the fence. Don't be. I was, I wanted to think my G2x was the **** and a software update would make it all better, But why wait? That still may not even fix the issue anyways. If your looking for the better phone by far all around? Then the sensation it is. EASY
Its actually nice to have a nice reliable phone. SENSATION FTMFWWWWWWWWWWWW
SORRY FOR MISSPELLINGS, PUNCTUATION, ETC. Im no college grad
I know a couple ass holes over in the G2X forum who won't appreciate this. As you know, I have both devices as well and prefer the Sensation over the G2X. There are a couple guys over in the G2X forum that will defend that thing until it blows up. They don't want to admit something else is better than the phone there stuck with for a couple years.

And as JRwin knows I also have the g2x. I havent been able to do a side by side comparison yet because I traded one of my G2x's for the sensation and the other one LG had for repair. It's on the fed ex truck today. I do notice though that the g2x was a lot faster but to be fair it's running vanilla android and it was overclocked. I kind of do miss my G2x though and am looking forward to getting it back from LG today. The only issue I really had with my G2x was screen bleeding. It was acceptable on one (the one I traded) and really bad on the other that I sent to LG for repair. I think they are both great phones(if you get a g2x that doesnt have tons of issues which seems to be rare)
I really do love both phones. The guy from phone dog I think put it best. The G2x is a Ferrari that looks like an ugly car and the sensation is like a BMW 5 series, really nice looking and also a good performer but not as fast as the Ferrari

Maybe once you go back to the G2x you will realize sensation ftw? or maybe thats just your experience. Either way, great post. I also said to a lot of people before that guy said that, " the g2x is a muscle car with no bells and whistles and the sensation is a luxury car with bells and whistles just not as fast as the muscle car". lol
very true?
Also I think the route you go is great. Send in for repair instead of waist another store device and it will probably have a issue as well. My sensation is issue free other than a couple specs of dust so if I ever get bothered or it gets worse. Im doing that. Sending it in. I want this phone. lol

Ive tried cm7 up to build 55 before dumping that DUMP. CM7 was buggy shiznit. Brightness cant even be changed. lol Gps bad, in landscape screen sensitivity crap, and lets not mention the 20% off battery meter even after it was apparently fixed.
GB on the G2x will not be released for a while, and will bring more bugs.
For real, go in landscape, and try and touch the bottom of the bottom letters. lol they dont respond. Something wack with that phone.
I've been using the Verizon Fascinate (Galaxy S) since launch. When the G2x came out, I got that on launch day to check out T-Mobile and a potentially awesome phone. The G2x was okay, but it didn't feel like a full step up from my Galaxy S series phone. Then it got a little buggy and I didn't have confidence in it. I returned it and cancelled at the end of the 14-day window, because I felt the Sensation may give me the step up I was looking for.
I received my Sensation in the mail yesterday. Honestly, I'm ready to tell them to port my number NOW and cancel Verizon, but it hasn't even been 24 hours yet. I'll be patient and see what issues arise over the next few days as I know some issues take a while to surface (based on what I've read). Even so, the Sensation really is an awesome phone. As already written, I wish the speaker was somewhere else like on the G2x, but that's a design flaw most phones seem to have nowadays for some reason.
I also didn't imagine all the issues LG/T-Mobile are having with the G2x. Things have been real shady since the phone was launched. I'm real glad I jumped off that boat when I had the chance. There doesn't need to be any hate between any phone users - even if they use an iPhone. You have every right to love your device and dislike another. That being said, the Sensation definitely feels like a winner... but it is too soon to tell for sure.

Yeah, I have to agree about CM7. I didnt have too many issues with CM7 but being a CM7 user on other devices I could tell for sure CM7 on the GX2 still had a long way to go. I was actually running Faux's rom the last week or so I had it and it seemed the most stable for my daily use than any other G2X GB rom.

Everyone that defends the G2X always does so with caveats. A phone should just work. Every high-end phone's going to have quirks because of all the crap that's crammed in to them. But at a minimum a phone should:
- Only turn off and on when the user wants it to
- Dial and receive calls consistently
- Bluetooth should allow you to store profiles, connect automatically to paired devices, and provide consistent sound output
- Wi-Fi should accurately find locations, connect to them quickly, remember them, and connect again automatically
- Allow you to switch between 2/3/4G and Wi-Fi without issue
- GPS should work consistently
The O2X/G2X have problems in all the above areas (except for the seven seemingly perfect phones all the apologists own). I don't care if a phone has eight-cores clocked at 3.0ghz if it can't do the above well its speed is useless. The O2X/G2X will be remembered much like the Yugo and original Hyundai Excel when all is said and done.
The O2X was released with the same issues the G2X is suffering. LG's had six months to develop fixes. The same people that broke it are the ones trying to fix it. I hope for all its fans sake LG eventually gets it right but based on their track record I'd bet against in Vegas if I could.
Samsung's been monitoring issues with the SGS2 and has so far rolled out three updates to the ROM and four updates to the camera firmware in six weeks time. I'd guess from history HTC will be just as attentitive. Why would/should it take LG six months of customers begging and being inconvenienced to get a fix out? Their competency has to be questioned.

I'm 24hrs in to my Sensation. I have both yes. I got the Sensation because my son has it. It looked like it was worth the try.
I can't say I'm as impressed with the Sensation as you are. I probably won't keep it. But, that does not mean its not a good phone. It's impressive in its own right. Some things are better than the G2x...other things, not so much. I like Sense. I like the Camera speed, I like the stupid locking ring. I like the snappy performance, after setup. And the thing I liked the best, when going to a web page, I could read it right off...without the resizing required in the G2x.
Locked or unlocked bootloaders hold no important place for me. The Chefs on XDA are great. They do wonders with everything. Unlocked bootloaders are their domain. When the Sensation is unlocked...they will jump to it.
To me the Sensation feels off. I was a Nexus One fan and this does not feel like that. Close...but enough difference.
Right now there are enough good things between both phones to make everyone happy. If people feel they cannot wait for the fixes and updates on the G2x, the Sensation is a great choice. I can't blame them for wanting to have a phone that equals most of the expectations they had when they paid good money.
To each their own. I refuse to belittle anyone for 'jumping ship'. Its only natural to defend your own choice. Its also natural to ridicule those that do not agree with your choice. Both phones are good. It's like arguing which playmate of the month is better....Miss/Mr. January or Miss/Mr. February. For me, Don't worry, you be happy....ok?

This is an excellent post. I expect my phone to work like my Desktop or Laptop computer, turn it on and everything works, with the G2x it has been hit and miss!
WOW.. So I sent in my g2x because this one had really bad screen bleeding. The other 2 I had (one mine, one my daughter's) didnt have it nearly as bad as the one.. anyway.. I got it back today. On the repair form it said cause: scratch, action: replaced case (housing)
umm the phone didnt have a single scratch on it(it was brand new!) so they did a repair that didnt need to be done, and my issue still remains. I call them, he gets the repair facility on the line and they tell him screen bleeding is normal with TFT displays. I tell them I have two others and while they have it and it's acceptable, the one I sent them was very severe and protruded to the middle of the screen, not just the corners. Plus if you hold it on an angle you can see a white light bar across the top(which was not present on the other two) He gave me a supervisor who is now trying to get a supervisor from the repair facility to see if there is anything they can do in this case, but she doesnt think there is anything that can be done.. really LG?? really?? First and last LG smartphone I buy..

I feel exactly the same way. The horrifying thing is that Google's deciding between LG and HTC for production of the Nexus 4G this Fall. I hope folks from Google read XDA. The O2X is selling for 20% less than the SGS2, Sensation, and Atrix in Europe. I wonder why?

All good points. It really doesn't matter if someone does or does not have those issues. If you do, its important to you. Period. Only you can judge just how important it is.
Stop with the caveats....like it or not....move on...or not. Period.

I ask this purely out of curiosity, not to be antagonistic. How do you use your phone that any or all of the above would be acceptable? I'm starting to think there are two different groups of phone users here: 1) phone as a workhorse, and 2) phone as a hobby. I consider myself a part of the first group and my G2X became history (at great expense) when it rebooted itself in the middle of a conference call to Asia. As a hobby, I could see where the idiosyncrasies of the G2X would actually make it fun but as a device to depend on, not so much. To each their own I guess.

Glad I didn't wait for Bionic

Went to check it out in person now that its finally released after a bazillion years. While performance-wise it delivers well and the UI os not so bad, that screen is complete GARBAGE especially being qHD. The TB screen has better quality, shoot even the OG Droid screen is less pixelated. Not to mention battery life is no better.

speaking of battery life... i don't think any of these big ol' 4G phones will ever have decent battery life(stock) unless the stock battery happens to be 5000mAh.
sure, there's always tweaks here & there and when it's rooted(well, you know the rest).
i just think it's ridiculous that they give all these phones such crappy batteries.
that and they should be built like those Panasonic Tough Books to. i want to know that i can beat someone to death with my phone and it will still be fine and dandy.

From what I've read, none of the 4g phones have 4g battery life because they are using modems that weren't designed for mobile phones. In the future, when one is developed that isn't such a battery hog, battery life will be better.

What was the MDM9600 designed for then? I'm not aware of anything but mobile applications for it. The problem is NOT the power consumption of the MDM9600. The problem is the power consumption of the MDM9600 and the MSM8655 together. You're running 2 radios full time here, unlike pretty much anything that came before it. HTC had to work with the FCC to invent measurement standards for this device. A more modern LTE modem will help a little, but until LTE is ubiquitous enough that Verizon can begin to carry voice on LTE and dump the CDMA modem, power consumption is going to suck.
the htc vigor is my next phone. im hearing a oct-nov release. android central just did a podcast and while its a good phone its too overhyped. the lcd is crap too.

Finally. I don't have to listen to gullible idiots pounding their meat in anticipation of... whatever is NEXT. Next up to bat: The Samsung Prime! Bet it's gonna have the same mediocre screen the Charge does and suck battery even faster!

What makes you say the Charge's screen is mediocre? While I dislike Samsung for a myriad of reasons, I find their display quality to be quite good, not just in vibrancy but color saturation as well. One of my employees has one and its MUCH better in the daylight than my Thunderbolt. My screen is almost unusable in the sun.

Guess he doesn't like AMOLED. I do, but I guess there are some that do not. AMOLED technically uses less power as well than the LCD screens most phones have.

A girl I work with has an Infuse and I have to say the screen is pretty freakin awesome. The SAMOLED+ with the good ole RGB stripe pattern is much better than the earlier pentile matrix versions. Plus I think with the SAMOLED+ they got color representation way more accurate.

AMOLED screens are NOT more efficient in a variety of common uses on cell phones, such as reading a text message or viewing a HUGE number of web pages. In those applications it can eat 200% to 300% more power. If your Tbolt screen is hard to see in daylight, it's probably an issue with the ROM, not the screen. Mine is plenty bright in any lighting condition. I call the screen mediocre because it's resolution is about on par with everything else out there. The screen SEEMS more vivid because the contrast is better on an AMOLED. However, honesty of colors and whites is still off.
I had a dInc AMOLED. I liked it, but it did have some serious shortcomings. It's excuse for white was very sorry, and it's brightness was the single most pathetic thing I've ever seen. I honestly don't miss that screen. The newer AMOLEDs are better, but I'm not going to venture down that road again until that technology comes a good bit further. In my opinion, it needs to become at least twice as efficient on white screens and produce more honest colors. I think it will ultimately be the technology of the future, assuming color e-paper doesn't make some good strides, but it's not there today.

Mediocre compared to what? A 240hz 55in. LED TV? From reading multiple posts from you in various threads it seems you either argue for the sake of arguing, or your psyche literally requires a high level of negativity and conflict to function. I'm leaning more towards the former. Not to mention it appears you jump between googling for your info, dictionary.com, and your forum posts too much to actually comprehend the information properly or form a coherent, unbiased, individual opinion you didn't get from someone else. But thats just me. I just hope your next post isn't something along the lines of "How dare you, I'm a (enter college degree/major here) and worked for (enter some prestigious tech company here). I know what I'm talking about," that would just complete the stereotype too well.

Thinking of writing an algorithm that checks to see how many times a new thread is opened that 1) asks what the best Sense Rom is 2) the best AOSP Rom is 3)Who hates their phone and why 4) the next awesome phone that comes out is sooooo much cooler than whatever phone I have now and 5) Oops I accidentally installed a Gingerbread Rom on my walkie talkie can someone help me?
If we get rid of all those threads how many you think we would have left?
Ok that's my completely useless rant for the evening please continue. D

1) Start by fetching the forum main pages via something like curl or wget using a text filter language like perl, python, awk (or even user javascript would work in the browser).
2) Filter out just the html that goes with the titles of the postings.
3) Use some regex magic to look for phrases like "hate" "best" "new" "when" etc.
4) Count the number of occurances by the titles or whatever else you want to do with it.
5) yay, done
Not motivated enough to actually write the class that does that though, lol

lol. Not motivated enough to do it myself. I was just reading through a bunch of different posts and realized that there are a lot of them that are very similar. Not anything against the ones who post them. Just making an observation

LED TV's aren't AMOLED. They're LED backlit, as opposed to cold cathode.
I did figure out how to Google things a long time ago, but I tend to read up on something and it's competing technologies before I form an opinion. Then, when I have an opinion, it's actually an informed one and not the collective wisdom of the unwashed masses.
I've gone to college. I studied Theology. I did pretty good. I didn't get a degree, and even if I did, I wouldn't brag about it because I think college is where you go when you need someone else to vouch for your knowledge instead of yourself. In my life I've been to every corner of the US, made everything from soap to parts for Pratt & Whitney jet engines, been published a few times, and lots of other things.
It wasn't exactly out of cold bitterness and some desire to dispense negativity that I wrote the [q AND a] thread pinned at the top of the Q&A forum. Or, that I've helped a fair number of people by personally answering questions and walking them through things they didn't feel comfortable with. So, you got a bone to pick with me for thinking AOSP sucks ass, or AMOLEDs aren't a visual orgasm, or I just think some people are idiots. Oh well. Plenty of people think I'm a world-class asshole. Somehow I get by, hold down jobs, manage relationships with my girlfriend and my wife (yes, they know each other well), and develop and maintain friendships. Seems to me if I was really what you say, doing those things would be a bit of a challenge, don't you?

The ones that REALLY piss me off are the ones that toss out the stupidest questions, then DEMAND an answer. Not a link. Not how to find the answer. Sometimes not even just an answer, but one from only a dev. Am I the only one that wonders how they got to this point in life functioning like that?
