Front cam - Touch Pro2 CDMA

Hi! Does anyone know if it is possible to swap the top Lcd part of a european Tp2 on a Cdma board version? Will the 2 parts fit correctly when closing the slider? Will we be able to use the front cam when roaming in europe? Thanks!

If it was possable to fit (meaning if it was even possable for the board that would just plug in...) you still would have to deal with the boot up commands turning it on. Some where in the SPL it would need to be enabled. Never mind the software to use it.
Kind of like the FM radio on the CDMA TP2, it's there but, over all this time no one has got it enabled (one person claimed but, no proof yet).
Even if you could find the board and got it connected, I think the hard part is to enable it and get the software for it.

Im pretty sure you can. However the camera will not work. The parts will not fit perfectly.

Hi i have stripped my tp 2 and installed the camera(with the felx since original flex dnt have a socket to fit the camera)and installed rotastrain dialer. but still no luck.
i think it should be enabled from SPL or Radio. i have sim unlocked phone but cannot install patched radio it gives an error. please let me know your thoughts some times we can get spl or radio edited to work video calls.
P.S.:-
Parts fits perfectly.

Interesting... As it's been said before, HTC makes one main board for the TP2/Tilt2. Then everything else is plugged in or enabled via the SPL, kind of like the bios of a computer.
It should fit fine, as you found out but, enabliing it is a whole different story. Just like the FM radio we have been trying to enable on the US CDMA version of the phone and people have been trying from the release of the phone. It's all disabled in the software.
Getting it to fit would be the easy part, getting it to be enabled, unless your a major HTC programmer or OEM, is going to be the really hard part. Sad to say...

Well... I thought installing HSPL will do the trick... any how i need to learn about spl and how to alter it. can you please tel me where can i get a start??? (i think)if they using one mobo then we can enable all the features since rhod 100 have all of them.

I was wondering the same thing and if I bought the eauropean version with the front camera already installed, will it work here in the U.S. ?

I don't think so... unless the operator support 2100 band. I think US networks are 1900...

are there any diff between qualcomm msm 7200A archi and 7600??? if anyone know about that??? Worldphone use 7600 and gsm version use 7200A... So i dont think that they use the same mobo....

Just curious... if someone did get the front cam working... what software would actually work with it?
Can/has it be used for video chat?

well the Tilt2 screen fits on a European TP2 board and vice-versa. Thing is that if you put the TP2 screen on the Tilt2 board, you lose the front cam functionality since it cannot be unlocked. Whenever you tried to open the front cam feature via the settings, a black screen is shown with an error message and then the volume gets messed up and you had to reboot. But definitely everything is working except the front cam.

This is literally the SAME issue as the FM Radio (which i so desire greatly)...
Somewhere, Radio/SPL something... they are disabled or missing the code to initialize/use these great and WANTED features... I offered to pay (in my jobless state) $40 to anyone who could modify whatever it was that needed modifying so i could get FM Radio, but thats almost 2 years ago now and still nada... problem with devs is new devices come out so quick they move on without a care to the "average joe" whos stuck on the phone they where previously developing for

Question: How to completely wipe a Tilt?

No, not a ROM flash: I want to completely erase every last piece of data in my Tilt and install the SPL, OS, and radio from scratch.
As far as I can tell, FrankenKaiser will do that, but it (in theory) only works with the radio from hell... which I have, albeit the "_patched" version...
I am trying to work from a clean slate, rather than flash another ROM... trying to clear up a problem that I think can only be fixed by such a drastic move... and of all the posts I've seen, (unless I'm retarded - quite possible) none has addressed such a move. Is FrankenKaiser the solution? If so, do I need to put the radio from hell on first? If it's not the solution, what is? Or is there one at all?
Thank you

This is possible, but why?
After you wipe your phone you will be re-flashing the ROM / Radio and SPL anyway.
If you do do this, make sure you read and understand the process (and what the pre-requisites are first).

Dave
Install Sleuth's V_3.0 WM6.1. I have moddified a version with Jocky to work with that OEMSBL version.
I will PM you with a link for the moddified FrankenKaiser, hey that sounds familiar, ohh yeah, Jocky let me name it!
HOWEVER, I think I'd try a few other things first. Like check the Radio Protocol. On boot does the red protocol version end in H or W? W is not for US & can create issues with 3G. Also, you can try using MTTY with my G3SPL MFG_SPL to fomat a few thing & to flush out Nand blocks. Many things to try before venturing to FK. I know you PM'd me, but I've been a wee bit busy, I'll make a little time if I can help though. Try me on MSN/Live Messenger [email protected] (Even if it says "Offline" give it a try, I may just be lurking)
Protocol ends in H, currently using the Neon 1.58.25.17 radio, I have tried virtually every other 6.1 radio in existence, and about a dozen different ROMs, including the stock AT&T and letting the bloatware install just for poops and giggles. But not the one that you suggested GS, what the hell, one more ROM flash ain't gonna hurt...
I am reticent to think it's a hardware issue because the G and H icons do appear, I just can't get a connection, and it all happened while using the GPS (LiveSearch and HTC GPS Tool specifically). If it was hardware related I would imagine that I wouldn't get the icons, it would just show no service.
Also, the reason I wanted to do a complete whitewash is because, even when installing a new ROM, I have noticed that certain traces and settings remain from days gone by (certain registry settings, POP3 accounts, etc), which I find odd.
I would be interested in the MTTY approach, a link would be appreciated... running out the door now to go play bar manager...
Sorry GS, didn't wanna seem impatient, just trying to get a wider input as to a solution, so I can (a) fix mine and (b) maybe suggest to others (a bunch from what I've seen, here and elsewhere) with the same problem, rather than everyone sending them to AT&T / HTC for replacements.
Personally, I think that the 3G issue is some corruption somewhere in the phone's firmware that a ROM/radio/SPL change doesn't affect, and - as much as I hate to invoke such people - the guys at AT&T that looked at it believed the same, didn't think it was an antenna issue (although the widespread belief is that it IS, and furthermore that anyone working at AT&T is a dolt - which IS usually the case). Far be it from me to be naive, but one would think that if this was as widespread a problem as it is and was hardware related that there would be a recall, which there hasn't been.
Again, thanks to everyone for their assistance.
So, I guess the next question is... how do I use MTTY to, as GSLEON suggested, flush out the bad blocks?
Again, thanks in advance to anyone who can help me.
go ahead and read up on this post. It will explain everything for you...

Just flash and basta? Flash and HR after that ? Have tryed with a different computer /os ? From SD card ? I had some reminiscent traces of previous roms if I didn't hard resetted after the flash.

Thought about it, but motherf*%$# Al-Qaida has made getting my hands on one so difficult.
I flash from a WinXP PC, have not tried another one because this is the only one I can get my grubby little hands on, flash / HR. Have not tried from SD card. I have had traces of old ROMs as well - I tired using PDAUltimate v6 and still had the splash screen from Garmin 4.4c... odd... that and other incidents of remnants of ROMs gone by.
You may want to check here and see if there is anything that may apply. (This is coming from someone that had a 3G failure.)

Well, that IS the usual behavior when the radio hardware goes poof, many people including myself experienced it. In the end GPS failed too on mine, as well as the GSM radio, and the phone was always running hot and draining batteries extremely quickly.
See the link posted by John.
The quick and dirty of it is....
1. The Icon lighting up means the radio and protocol is correct to talk on the correct 3G bands in your area
2. From what I have been able to gleen on how the 3G signaling works (not an expert here) it is basically GSM signaling for the UMTS/HSDPA Voice/data path buildup.
3. It is most interesting to go to an area that has non PCS band 3g, use field test to verify this if you want, you can lock your phone on edge and use voice and data 850, but will not be able to build up a UMTS/HSDPA connection on 3G. You need to go to a non PCS area as I have seen for the most part in Seattle they run the edge net on 850 and 3G on PCS frequencies.

AT&T Fuze vs Unlocked Touch Pro

If there was already a discussion about this I'm sorry. Apparently I suck at using the search feature...
I've wanted this phone for what feels like forever and will be given this as an early Christmas present in the next week, due to the issues of my failing Tilt. I can't decide if I should get the AT&T Fuze (I have AT&T now) or an unlocked version of the Touch Pro. I know it's the "same" phone but I also know the software/features differ. I tried to compare the two in the HTC Wiki but I know I can get much more useful information here.
1. Which unit would you recommend and what would I be giving up/gaining from either? I know the unlocked wouldn't have the AT&T specific software, not sure if that's good or bad.
2. Does the Fuze have a "flash" for the camera? Also, which unit has the better camera? It seems that the TP has more features, but slightly less MP.
3. Do they both support A2DP?
4. Frequencies confuse me! Quad-band, tri-band... bottom line which unit is faster & do they both support 3G (American version)?
5. Am I able to get Hotmail directly on either the Fuze or TP? Or is there software that enables me to? I'm running one of Dutty's fabulous ROMs on my Tilt now and love that I'm able to get Hotmail!
Sorry if any of these questions seem stupid- I'm fairly new at this & every time I turn around the new technology is way over my head! Any input/opinions/answers are greatly appreciated in helping me make a decision. Thanks!
Everythink is almost identical between the two except that the Fuze doesn't have the front camera and ATT customized it the way they wanted. They both support A2DP and Windows Live will get you Hotmail.
ok wow.. theyre exactly the same; except for one important aspect; the touch pro wont work on at&t 3G. there are other small cosmetic differences, and a different keyboard layout. yes the software is different, but thats not an issue, as u can flash any rom u want. in conclusion, get the fuze if u want to US 3G. do a google search next time please, these questions have been answered multiple times

Thanks for the info. I don't want to get my email via the web, which is why I asked. I want to be able to set it up the same way you can with yahoo or gmail.
Do you know if the Fuze has a "flash" for the camera. It isn't listed anywhere and I can't tell from any of the pictures.

FM Radio Not Working

I installed the Htc Fm Radio Cab from this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=521356 to work on my Sprint Htc Touch Pro2 but i can't get it to work the cab installs good and everthing but theres no sound being outputted
I've installed the Radio as well and cannot get any output. Tuner seems to not be able to find any stations. Tried multiple headsets but no joy.
I very well could be wrong, but I remember on the Specs for the Original Touch Pro, that if you were lucky enough to get one that had the FM Radio Built in, you had to use the Mini USB headphones that came with the Touch Pro. I still have mine from my TP, but have not tried it yet on the TP2.
Russ
I tried mini usb with installed htc radio. But no luck on tp2 from Sprint. I need this radio very much.
same problem on the Verizon TP2 using the 3.5mm jack...radio does not find any stations, and manually tuning does not provide any sound.
The Sprint and Verizon models do not have a FM radio. I guess they had to make room when they made the phones both CDMA and GSM.

didn't they say the GSM one didn't have an FM tuner also and yet this program exists to open it up.
Do we really think the FM radio hardware isn't in there or is it just a possibility that it is disabled?
What is the exact actions of the program? I not a programer, but I do understand how a lot of it works. To control the device the program is probably trying to write to various memory locations. If it's there, we just need to know what the memory map is. Based on it's actions I may be able to guess about what's happening. Also, I believe that writing to the wrong memory locations could create problems.
Any programers out there please feel free to correct me on this stuff.
Both programs (htc and power radio) seem like they work, but neither receives a signal. I can't tell if they seem to be actually running the FM hardware or if they are just "running blind" not actually doing anything. I know when I tried this on my Touch Pro, the software would error out, like the FM hardware wasn't even there. I know there's a spec sheet out there that says the FM radio is not supported, but at what level? Hardware, software or both? If it's software, there has to be a way around it.
Well if it makes a difference this is what the registry said on my Sprint TP2
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\FMRadio\FMPlayer]
"Channel"=dword:00015694
"AudioPath"=dword:00000000
"Deemphasis"=dword:00000000

Lets get this working would be great!
I found out the FM radio for the Pro was integrated into the Bluetooth chipset. If that's true for the TP2 as well then once we get a teardown we should be able to find out if it's in there. I couldn't find a teardown for the GSM TP2. If someone can find it then we can probably make a good guess if the hardware is there. If it is again part of the same chip as the Bluetooth then I would bet a week's paycheck that it's the same chip in the CDMA variant.
I posted over on ppcgeeks and a response i got from a regular post says you need a gsm only phone in order for it to work.
if I'm not mistaken, the hardware isn't there, so you're wasting your time
Please read the posts. The FM radio in CDMA versions of TP2 does not work. Latest available information seems to indicate that the code to initialize the FM tuner during boot is either not there or blocked. (probably greedy careers trying to push users towards "data plan" oriented music services)
There is a sticky post on top with a link and further info.

What Rapheal Phone do I have

Hi,
I am on a mission today, to upgrade my phone. Currently I have Windows Mobile 5.2.21812 and its very unstable.
I know nothing about flashing these, as I bought the phone from EBAY not knowing it had Windows Mobile 6.5 on it.
I notice reading in the forums, I need to know if its CDMA, or GSM etc ? How would I tell that please? Phone is HTC Touch Pro.
Many thanks.

Radio is comparable to something like your WiFi card in your laptop. Depending on your location, etc, some radios are better than others. They control your signal, GPS, WiFi, etc. The most used one that I've seen is 1.14.25.35
UC Capable is something you need when you start cooking. If you're new to the Raph, you probably don't need this info yet.
SPL is the most important. Since you bought your device pre-flashed with 6.5, is should be hardSPL. This helps prevent your device from becoming an expensive paperweight. Now, it helps, but doesn't guarantee. If you put your device into bootloader (hold vol-, hold power, and reset with stylus) your device at the top of your screen should say something like SPL-1.90.Olinex. This means it's hardSPL and you are able to flash custom ROMS, like the NRGZ28 ROM you linked to. As long as they are GSM you should be able to flash any ROM for the GSM Touch Pro.
These are the basics so just keep reading the wiki. I will answer any questions I can, so just shoot me a PM if needed
Hey, if you want to flash your Raphael, I'd recommend you read this
I did my first, regardint this thread, and actually worked, really simple if you ask me!
Some suggestions: Leave the radio, for first, just do a simple ROM flash, and after that if you find it nessescery you can do it later.
The only ROM I tried for my Raphael is TAEL's ROM, it's amazing compared to the stock ROMs!!! If you're intrested click on it in my signature!
I have the following ROM;-
r:- 1.11.25.01
g:-52.58.25.30u
d 5. phoenix
Do I have to revert to a OEM ROM? If so, where do I find those please?
Good news, I've been sucessfull Phoned imaged to TAEL Roms - very good.
Could of questions;-
1. Don't have the sat nav the other image had. Can't remember the name of it. but I used to use that quite alot. Does anyone know where I can download it from?
2. Used to have an application called FLASHLIGHT - great little app. Its a TOURCH application that used the FLASH Light. Really handy. Where can I download it please.
Many thanks.

1) are you talking about the garmin or tomtom gps software? or the one where you use the GPS to lock down a location (kinda like "dude where's my car?" app for the iphone)
search on the forums under software development subforum. it's called Torch.. that or NueLight.
Thanks I managed to find the torch light thing, but still can't find the sat nav. Not sure what the name was. It was really good though. Wasn't the tom tom navigator. Wish I made a note of it, as it was fully working version :-(
are you talking about the GPS navigation software? if so then it's either garmin (mobile XT) or tomtom
Hi,
Looking on my storage card Managed to find the name - AUTO MAPA. Tried to load it from the storage card, and it works. So I have copied the exe to the start menu, multimedia folder and it works great
Whats this GARMIN Mobile XT like then?
Since updating to TAEL Rom, my signal is very low and keeps disconnecting from the network.
Do I need to upgrade my RADIO then?
My version is;-
1.11.25.01
I found this one, would this work ?
http://www.4shared.com/file/133094257/1e1ce983/BlackStone_Radio_1172509.html
try testing other radio. I changed my radio to the new ATT official rom (not so new anymore but it was the latest updated ATT rom). Test it out for a few days each and map out what you think works best and keep to that.
One thing I noticed is that some radios will crash your phone after a call.. they may give you better signals, but it will crash your phone, so be aware of that.
Hi,
Thanks for the message. Does it matter that I am on TMOBILE and not ATT ?

FM Radio

Salesguy in the store when I bought it said the spec he had said it had one... but there is no app for it... what app or where can I get one to try to access this "hidden" perhaps hardware?
bumpy bump
Maybe try searching for the captivate fm radio apk and see if it works. Look at the i9000 forums. They have a link to all the apk's
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
I tried installing the fm radio apk from the galaxy s using the SDK. It would not install. AT&T may have taken it out the ability. Who knows.
I pulled apart the apk files and I have two xml files anyone know how to read Android XML files?
You probably need an external antenna for it to work. Possibly a wired headset would work.
AT&T's Fuze didn't have the radio software until a firmware update. (or load cabs found on xda-dev) Either way, the app wouldn't try to tune the radio without the special htc-headset connected. This htc headset included an antenna.
theres an att radio app, would that work? I also heard the shipped headsets that come with the phone should have an antenna. Again, i could be wrong.
Has anyone figured this out 100%?
I'm very seriously considering this phone, but would really like to have FM radio with me.
Either ATT did not install the app for it because they want you to use up all your data using the att radio app; which says that it uses a ton of data so make sure you have a data plan. It may also have a monthly charge idk.
Or the hardware was removed with the front facing camera (maybe they were on the same module or something).
I hope the hardware is in there and it just needs the software to run. The headphones they give you have 3 rings so they could be 4 conductor I guess.
Stereo left and right, voice, and antennae. Or the 4th could be ground.

Stereo left and right, voice, and antennae. Or the 4th could be ground.

I believe they are four conductor for TV-Out functionality.
Radio doesn't use data
the ATT radio application sure does. Just try to launch it and it will tell you so. It is using internet radio.
We are also talking about thwe FM radio which wouldn't use any data. So either they hid it from us so we use thiers (and pay for data plus maybe a monthly fee). Or they removed the hardware so we are really f'ed.
I doubt ATT disabled it in software. The HTC Aria comes with a fully functional FM radio app, along with a bunch of featurephones (my wife's sony ericsson). Doesn't make much sense that they'd remove it for some marginal profits.
I'm betting the FM radio is in it.

I agree. Cheaper to make the hardware all the same and just not support it.
no one has dismantled the phone yet?
You can be the 1st
Ok i work for at&t and i cannot find anything internally that supports the fm radio myths. Im far from any kind of app developer but anyone debunked this? Im ok with internet streaming but cant find any good local terrestrial radio apps. Any roms or apks to fix this?
