Chillaxed posted this in the 2.1 optimize thread:
im suprised you guys all use task managers, i use minfree manager. it uses android's default task killing service, except i raise the last 3 values to 150,200,and 250 and the phone hardly ever dips below less than 100mb of free ram, if i run a game or something for a long time it will kill everything in the background for me (android's doing it, minfree just uses root access to change android's default values alot higher)

I downloaded this app, used the above settings and voila! All my system slowdowns are gone, my phone would always become unusable when my free RAM dropped below 30, now it never drops below 40, smooth as silk! With JIT enabled and this app my phone feels incredible.
So you say you put 150 in Hidden App, 200 in Content Provider and 250 in Empty App ?

You need to have Rooted Phone. Isnt 150,200,250 very high doesnt this kill Apps you need like Phone or something?
Well it seems it's working well atm, but would it be possible to know what it is doing ?
Like what means the value i put in, is it automatically killing tasks when it's going under 50mb or is it killing some periodically ect...
Because I saw somewhere that android was optimised to work without task killer ect...
Thx in adv

If you want to disable OTA updates, you can remount your system folder, and delete /system/app/Updater.apk and /system/app/Updater.odex
I've done that on my own phone with no negative effects (so far). I'm fairly sure that should disable any OTA updates from being installed.
Once it does come out, I plan on downloading it (onto my computer), and giving it a good going over. I'll yank out anything that looks like it will disable my root access, and then resign it with the test keys and load it onto the phone using a modified recovery tool.

Ditto my good man.
We don't have to reject it per se any OTA "official" update. We just have to modify it and load it. It will have benefits to update, just not completly to Google's standards

Details? I was under the impression the retail bootloader wouldn't accept any keys except tmob/google's.
With root though its no biggie to just install the update manually.
well who ever does accept this update please make not of the url it's calling so those of us that aren't can manually grab it. assuming this will still be an option

That won't help, as it's respawned by init when it dies. Maybe kill -STOP 26 would work, but I haven't verified that.

correct me if i'm wrong, but this app changes your read_ahead_kb value in your sys/devices/virtual/bdi/179:0 right? what values does it sets it to? 2048 or 3069?
All it does is increase how fast it reads your SD card. so yes, it can speed up a lot of your casual activity's. harmless also.
Yes all it does is change your read ahead cache. You can also use this script. Place it in your system\etc\init.d folder and change permissions to rwxr-x--
You can change the value to what ever you want by editing the ''768'' Ive found 768 to be best balance. anything above 1028 is overkill, it may speed up your Really large files but will slow down small ones and most files you want fast access to are relatively small. IE. music, pic's, text files ect. after you change values and reboot you can check to see if your changes have stuck, simply go to sys/devices/virtual/bdi/179:0\read ahead cache and open file as text and it will display the running value. You can also change the value directly from there and test your phones performance with each change untill you find the best for you. You will loose your settings after reboot if you just change values from here: sys/devices/virtual/bdi/179:0/read ahead cache. This is not intended to knock this cool app in no way. just trying to help ppl understand who didnt and to the people who would like this mod but dont want to have another app running in the background.
*** You will have to remove the ".txt" extension before using this file****

Well, you're right with this path, but there are some more possibilities to set the values (diffferent paths). It depends on the hardware. However, the app set the value received by the GUI.

Thanks goes to #TeamWin for Temp Root
This is For Windows only, if you wish to make it work for linux or mac help your self...
Remember, This is still a Temp Root & any Changes made will be Rest back to stock on a Reboot
It's stable & works 100%
I Personally have not lost Root with this new Method
Q. I thought RW was Fixed?
A. Caused by Deleting an apk / file that was already deleted. Journaling shows it still there!
Keep Track of what you delete, as trying to delete something off system that you alread di hangs the /system into RO state.
Before Using!!HTC Sync Must be Turned OFF
Put the Phone into Charge Mode only ( Not Disk Drive )
USB Debugging Must be Turned on
What's Fixed:
Revamped due to new Method:
~ Superuser Apps now Function
~ If you Lose Root, all you have to do is Open terminal & type SU then type fixit! > No More Rebooting & running the exploit again for R/W on system to get Root back in place
~ Fixed R/O Bug!!
~ R/W is now Forced
~ /system is fully editable now! until reboot that is.
~ Busybox is installed to /vendor/bin
~ hex Edited libext4
~ hex edited libfuse.so
~~ This is the Last Update due to it working & Stable ~~

Q. Is this permanent?
A. no, it's a temp root method..
Q. Will I lose SU Access at some point while running the OS?
A. You might, but open terminal & type fixit to get root back!.
Q. What about apps that need a reboot to use superuser?
A. Use Fast Reboot form the market for app that need a reboot..
Q. Can I push & remove items to system & will it work?
A. Yes, but all changes are reset on a reboot.
Once Downloaded, Unzip & double click on the Run_ME_fre3vo_Root.bat File & Enjoy long lasting Root!
OLD NEWS:
Everyone knows that currently with any temp root, you still lose links to the SU Binary & Busybox links, it's just a matter of time before it happens!!
So after digging around somewhat I found an over sight that HTC might use later for system updates via /vendor/bin, who knows at this point though... Anyways, after amount of time the SU Binary along with busybox links if be in system/bin or /system/xbin gets deleted / removed..
Now, what I did was enable the $Path to /vendor/bin which is in the Sensation export PATH..
Any Calls made from this point either be SU or Busybox don't get deleted nor touched from any App requesting the SU Binary!! I've tested this with alot of apps & the Root sticks in place..
Other than Reboot, it might as well be a Perma-Temp-Root!!
I am Asia Sensation..Can i use it?
thanks loads
will give feedback
seems to work the same as before, cant wait until we can permanently change /system files
Thanks a lot !!!
I think the new thread it's beter, for the noob not confusion
with the old one
Great update. You should seriously consider talking with agrabren since your making temp root so much better. And I'm assuming you still can't permanently delete system apps right? Just permanently delete them for the time being until a reboot right?

I really hate to add to the chaos, but no matter what I do. I am not able to get this to work properly. I have HTC sync turned off, and debugging and mock locations checked off, but when it gets to waiting for device, it just hangs, and never picks up the device again. I tried to remove the wait for device commands out of the .bat file, and it gets through but when I attempt to use even titanium, it says root not achieved, and will not let me through. Yes superuser is installed.

EDIT: I finally got it to work. The last two downloads of the files must have been bad or whatnot. I redownloaded a third time and it was the charm! Disregard this. Love your work Eugene!

Hi Guys,
I am new in this forum although I am reading specific threads almost every day. I am currently using Endymion v2.2 and I am pretty happy form it. Previously I've tried some other ROMs but I think Endy is mine ROM.
In version 2.1 it was undervolted with -50 and it was working stable on my HTC Desire S. So when I've installed v2.2 from time to time I was UV it with -50. However after restart everytime it goes back to default state. So today my phone restarted incidently (happen about once per 1 or 2 days) and I've UV it with -50. After pressing Save and Activate permanently my phone freezed. No keys were working. After that it is restarting on every 20 mins. In fact it is alive for 1-5 mins, freezing for 15 mins and restarting itself. I've tried to boot it in recovery mode and deleted all types of cache (probably bad decission) but no change. I will be very thankfull if anyone have any ideas (Alternatevelly I could try to wipe and install v2.0 from scratch since it is the only one I have on the SD card)
Thanks a lot!

Most probably since the problem begins when I've tried to do -50 in UV. But now according to OC/UV Beater2 UV is by default and OC is using the default setting which are comming from the ROM. I've revoke permissions to this application from Superuser but nothing changed
Any ideas how to swich off Undervolting/Overclocking?
Unfortunatelly I should be quite fast since I have usually 1-2 mins before next restart. (Today probably the phone restarted at least 20 times.)
I am also having my phone in the charger. I do know that I should not pull the battery in any case.
I have to travel so I will be back after about 3h. Since my phone is unuseful I will not be able to respond to this thread before I am getting back home.
Thanks to all for the help

Agreed, seems something wrong with of/iv beater. Please uninstall it completelly, by doing this (i assume you know how to use adb):
- reboot to recovery and connect USB cable
- adb remount
- delete the app from /data/app , don't quite recall the name, but its obvious once you see it
- delete /system/etc/init.d/98setvddconfig
- reboot
See if this helps.
Cheers
--edit--
If you don't have time, the really important part is deleting the file in /system/etc/init.d

Forget adv for now. Just use es file explorer to delete the file I mentioned.
I have a good idea about what's happening to you, but can't explain now.
Cheers

I've just installed Android SDK and JDK Will try to delete it on next restart probably after 10-15 mins or in worst case in next-next restart - about 30 mins. Will let you know as soon as I have some more info.
I was not quick enough in first attempt (since I had less than a min). I run ES File explorer and tried to find /system. By default it was on /sdcard and I do not know how to go to root folder and then to system (hope next time to have more time before freeze)
Btw now the phone is frozen quite funny because of back button press it is vibrating
Updated:
found this on Internet: menu->settings->root options-> check "Root Explorer" Will try it on next restart
Root Explorer option is swiched on. Now it says that /system should be mount

Easier this way, flash this in recovery:
View attachment 801695
Sorry, I missed something, flash this instead:
View attachment lowveld_restore_vdd.zip
Tell me if it solves the issue. I'll explain later...
Cheers
Sorry maybe a dumb question:S
But I think I will not have time to copy the file. Probably there is a way in recovery mode...I will google for this...
Hi guys.
Just finished rooting my phone but I can't figure out how to delete the bloatware like Lounge and Facebook.
After root, all I can do still is disable them.
Any thoughts?

How have you rooted?, as on the xa root is only available via unlocked bootloader. If you can't delete system apps you don't have full root with r/w access. Either Sony RIC is still active or your doing something seriously wrong. Is the system mounted r/w if so deleting them shouldn't be a problem.

I rooted using this guide starting with unlocking the bootloader. http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-xa/how-to/f31xx-how-to-root-xperia-xa-noob-t3430170
Everything seemed to check out. I had root status, but could not delete them.
Only thing I can think is that in SuperSU I did not check the "Enable su during boot" or the "Full unroot"

You have to delete them from /system/app and some in /system/priv-app.

I thought it might be something like that but where would I access that?
I tried using ES File Explorer but it didn't work.
I still "facebook-stub.apk cannot be deleted.
So I tried using the file manager in TWRP but same thing.

That's strange, in TWRP try mount /system rw in the mount menu (no problem on XA), under Android try with Root Explorer or Root Browser. Tried myself the 2 ways without problem.

What about Titanium Backup? He can't use that to remove system apps?

Probably yes, I don't use any uninstaller, just a root browser or TWRP.

Zram is already in the stock kernel it was on all lollipop(mid-range Xperias)and I've seen the files while exploring the system with a file manager this device has plenty of ram if that's what you mean.
Adoptable storage has already been done aswell see the thread but it doesn't read the gb of the device correctly it's just a random selection of numbers with a - in front of it.

Kernel seem to have full support but I don't know why you want to increase RAM, XA use zram as swap, you can change the size up to 1Go with a good kernel manager app. I don't know if you can move swap path Look at my screens if it can help you

That worked. Both Root Browser and mounting the system in TWRP worked. Thank you.
Consequently, ES File Browser seems to be working now too. I guess it didn't have root access before.

That's awesome ! So if I make root and use good kernel manager I can extend total ram to 3gb total? Just asking for sure, had rooted all previous phones but still feel like 'noob' haha So if I already wasting Your time i wanna understand everything :>
edit: I wanna up to 3gb because some Hi-End games had low fps, 20~ and phone is hot as hell I can cook an egg on it ^^ for example ( CSR Racing 2)
I hope increase RAM can help a little, but maybe I am wrong :/ Maybe it's depend on CPU..

Yes and no, by default zram is set to 922 MO/1000 on XA...
Hi-end games need a strong GPU like on PC, our Mali-T860 is not very good as mentioned in Antutu. You can tweak CPU governor or I/O scheduler for one or two more FPS and make your phone hotter a little more
Safer way is to tweak the game itself with GLTools app, results are not always good but it can help.
Edit: If you want to answer or have other questions please PM me to avoid off topic or open a new one for device/games tweaks
