Go to settings, applications, and make sure unknown sources are checked and then try to install it again.

dont see unknown sources anywhere.....
Open your app drawer(the place where you access all your apps) open the app called "settings" then go down the list to "applications" once you do that at the very top of the "applications" list you will see "Unknown sources" check the box to right of it and then you'll be able to install z4root and "side load" apps.
I don't mean to be mean, but if so far this is over your head, you might not want to be rooting your phone, you could cause a lot of damage with root access.... At least be very careful what you end up doing with root access....
I have done this before and had the same problem I did all that and there is NO unknown sorces anyplace..I have a Captivate

Did a little research and it would seem that att disabled the unknown sources option on the Captivate.
The easiest way to install z4root would be to use this tool
http://www.androidcentral.com/sideload-android-apps-all-you-want-sideload-wonder-machine
the other way would be to :
- get the app install package (.apk)
- install Android SDK
- install Samsung Captivate USB drivers
- connect to computer in USB Debugging mode
- use ADB to install package

I just 4root'ed (1.3.0) two Samsung Fascinates and was able to connect with the USB in the troubleshooting mode to my little linux netbook, and side-loaded '4root' to the 'download' folder, and from there on it just worked... I used 'astro' to access the folder.. now I've got control... and (here) someone said the rooting was temporary, but it gave the option to 'temporary' or 'permanent' the root process... I did the later, and it works GREAT!!! Cheers, and Merry Christmas... Dave

[Q} WidgetLauncher Root Access

Hi all,
I hope this is not a 'noob' questions, but I googled and got nothing.
I downloaded WidgetLauncher and can't enable the root access to overcome some issues inherent in the AndroidOS. It says Root is either not available or denied.
I am running D2G on stock ROM with root. SU does not ask for permission when I select this option on WL, so how does the program automatically assume I am not/can't use the root feature?
Thanks!
Have you installed busybox? That and superuser can tell you if you ARE rooted. If not, download SuperOneClick to your PC, connect your phone and run it. Make sure you have USB debugging mode on, but do not mount USB as mass storage. Don't hesitate to look for rooting help here or elsewhere (I.E. Droid Forums, Android Central)

[Q] unlock and install apk

Hi,
I have rooted captivate running default ATT os eclair android.
I am unable to get it to connect to wifi hotspot (adhoc, open) in my laptop. HTC G1 connects fine to it. I just do not understand why captivate cannot connect.
So to install apk I tried sdcard route but says blocked. In Application menu I do not see any option to allow unknown sources like I see in HTC G1 which is running cyanogenmod.
since wifi does not work I cannot install using market. since unknown sources is not an option available in phone menu I cannot install either.
any alternatives ?
1) should install another rom like cyanogenmod ?
Regards,
Miten.

This will allow you to enable sideloading:
http://pocketnow.com/android/how-to-enable-app-sideloading-on-the-att-samsung-captivate
It worked for me and was easy to follow.
Hi,
sideloading itself needs installing apk. I have issue in first place that of phone not letting install from sdcard due to it not being from Android Market and wifi does not connect me to my local home hotspot.
do I need to have some sim in phone to get wifi to work ? I have been trying without having sim in phone since I know my sim is not ATT and the phone is locked currently to ATT and that unlocking is what I am trying to get done.
Regards,
Miten.
You need Superoneclick. It will root your phone, and it will also change the settings to allow for 3rd party apps.

Root Your Symphony Xplorer w70q

hello guys
i have rooted my symphony xplorer w70q using vroot pc tools method , its a simple , safe & easy method.
ok lets talk about rooting process. . . . . . . .
First go to setting =>security =>unknown sources & check unknown source.
then go to setting=>developer option & turn it on.
then tick USB Debugging Options & also tick allow mock locations from Developer Options in Settings.
if your W70q dont shows Developer options, it means you didnt get developer access,
to get developer access, First you have to go to setting=>about phone & tap sometimes on Build Number, then you will get developer access & Developer option will show on setting.
ok, now download pc root tools from this link vroot english[mgyun,com/en/GetVRoot](english vroot needed 1st to setup root process but then you have root using vroot china) Vroot china [mgyun,com/vroot] (use dot in place ,) (i could not post vroot link for xda forum's spam system, i will update link later) {i have rooted my phone using china version}
after downlooading, install it in c: drive in your pc, then connect the cable with you phone to pc . from your phone, select connect as Mount SD card.
then open vroot in your pc, connect the cable then it will check your phone driver & will download it automaticly for you, then vroot will show your phone model connected,
then click root ,then vroot will start rooting, after 1min, it will reboot device & upgrade android version & complete rooting. then it will give root complete message. :good:
As this is China version you have to download SuperSu from Play Store.
After installing SuperSu from play store, Open it Then you can see 2 option like Normal or CWM/TWRP Select Normal…Wait a second..then you can see uninstall option, select it..You Have done….now Enjoy
it will not brick your phone & you can unroot later,Internet connection compolsary while rooting phone, use usb modem or wifi for this, don't use phone while rooting, happy rooting

Question
Hello! There is some Custom Rom for this model like Cyanogenmod? Or Kitkat version? I'm interested to get the all firmware (including partitions like persist and all radio and network partition information), because my gsm signal is allmost = 0. There is some posibility to have a better signal (in the same place of the city, with nokia e51, the signal is full).
Very Nice Discussion, For more information just visit google play store..............

any no root mods

Hi I'm new to the z5 forums and I'm looking for any non root mods for my z5 as I cannot unlock the bootloader so I'm limited to non root mods any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Thanks for the help
If any apps cause trouble (or you don't like them) you can attempt to disable them via adb:
(for this you need to enable "USB debugging" via "developer options": Settings -> about phone -> Build number -> Tap 7 times)

Not sure what exactly you're looking for ...
