[Q] SMS/MMS Merged, MMSC Settings Missing - HTC Vox

Hi All.
Got a BT-branded HTC s710 and unlocked it to use on Orange. Managed to set up GPRS for Internet and now trying to work out MMS sending and receiving. I've set some settings in the Connections part, but I feel I need to select something in the MMSC settings - which I can't find. I know where they should be, but...
The problem is, my SMS and MMS accounts are merged. I don't get this because I've not seen it anywhere else - I was using the SPV E650 before this one, and they were separate. So when I go to Account Settings... well there's just nothing about MMSs. Even from within an MMS message, there is nothing to change the MMSC.
What do I do? Is this really the problem or doesn't MMSC selection matter? Does anybody happen to know where to find the MMSC settings on a crazy Vox that doesn't segregate SMS and MMS?
Any help greatly appreciated.

Anyone knows how to hack the registry settings for M1?
http://www.miworld.com.sg/mms/mms_manu_setting_xphone.htm
I tried to change the address to the following, there is GPRS connection but wat's left is configuring the gateway correctly (which I do not know how to create a new entry in the registry).

O2 MMS settings

Just started getting a problem with the MMS on my Serra and not sure if anyone can let me know theirs please.
Under connections/My ISP I have
Mobile Web - Cellular Line (GPRS,3G), mobile.o2.co.uk, o2web/password, DNS 193.113.200.200, Alt DNS 193.113.200.201
Mobile Web 2 - Cellular Line, mobile.o2.co.uk, o2web/password, DNS 193.113.200.200, Alt DNS 193.113.200.201
My Work Network
02 Active - Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G), wap.o2.co.uk, o2wap/password, user server specific
MMS Settings
o2uk - Gateway 193.113.200.195 port 8080, server address http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002. Connect via My ISP
Thanks
Sorry all fixed myself, my proxy settings were incorrect
What exactly was the error - I still cannot get MMS to work even with your seetings from your post?
I found out that mine was that a proxy server was enabled. I hook mine up to my laptop while in the office to charge and activesync with my Exchange server. Hadn't realised that it also enables my office proxy server.
crazyC, is the SIM in your Serra on O2 contract or Pay and Go? I'm guessing it's the former, but if it's the latter I know the settings...
Is it just MMS that's not working, or is your data connection (via telephone I mean) not working either?
It was just MMS that did not work.
I am on contract, and after a lot of digging and trialling of cabs that should have fixed it, but didn't, I have sussed it out and tested it.
I will roll the settings into my O2 setup cab, test it, and then post it if anyone wants it.
YES! Please post it.
I am using these settings on my contract o2, htc touch pro. all my 3g and internet works... just no mms.
I have sat here for four hours now messing around with it...
any chance of posting the settings that worked for you?
Try this
MMS Settings
o2uk - Gateway 193.113.200.195 port 9201, server address http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002. Connect via My Work Network
Other connections as per the normal O2 set up.
'My Work Network' shows up as O2 Active
Dont forget to set the O2MMS server as the default under MMS options
I havent tested this yet, but this cab SHOULD insert the O2 MMS settings - note you must already have the correct O2 network setup for calls and data, this is just the MMS bit.
im also having prblems with this, using the new Elite RC4. Im gunna reflash it and try again cuz i have fiddled with the settings too much
Edit - i tried the cab and the setting listed above it and neither worked for me
I have called O2 to see if they can help me and they sent me the some lame ass intruction which are exactly the same as on here... except afte you set up the o2web settings it says to use auto download for the rest :/
Whats the deal witht he proxy for the o2 active settings are they supposed to be on or off and if on, what do i set them as?
Installed the original O2 ROM to get all the settings working properly. It seems the missing details are in the WAP Proxy ones.
start - settings - connections - connection settings - manage existing under the 'my work network' (or whatever you renamed it too) - proxy (ensure use proxy is ticked) - advanced
WAP - 193.113.200.195:9201
SECURE WAP - 193.113.200.195:9203
Other than that settings are as they have been mentioned previously
MMS issues
I have extensively searched forum after forum and this seems to be the only thread with the sort of info i am searching for. I have installed TPC V3.1 Rom With required radio, everything works including MMS, however, no matter what settings i try i cannot receive normal sized pictures and any MMS videos go straight to the O2 website and all i get is a message your phone is not compatible with this type of message. Can anyone help, its really annoying............
I have tried the above .cab file and it doesn't work for me either.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Try some of these reg edits.
Thanks, but that is more for increasing the send size limit of mms, I can send them fine, but my network O2 cannot determine what phone I have and therefore only allows me to receive the smallest possible sized attachement.
I have tried numerous settings and radios to adjust this I've even tried the get settings feature and I get a txt back sorry we are unable to blah blah blah. with out going back to O2 stock rom i'm running out of options.......
Also I have never attemped to edit the registry
Again thank u for your reply......
EDIT......
Attempted reg edit, has had no affect, am I doing something Wrong.......?

[Q] Nexus S MMS problem! Blurry MMS in UK

Hello!
I have seen the threads on blurry MMS messages in the US.....which has been more or less fixed.....anyone in the UK have any idea how we get this fixed over here?!
I have contacted O2 and they have said the phone is not officially supported by them and therefore they cannot assist (although I bought the phone on a 2 year contract with them!!!). They have advised I take the phone back to Carphone warehouse and get another model as they cannot give me a date when the Nexus S will be supported.
Anyone have a work around for this in the UK? Surely I'm not the only one in the UK with this issue?
Regards
G
UPDATE
~~~~~
Have just spoken with O2 technical data services and they have confirmed there is nothing at all they can do and the phone apparently should be used on the network and they have no plans in the near future to support the phone and they advised I get a refund.
If anyone in the UK has found a work around for this on one of the other networks please let me know as I love the phone agh!! Its available on all the UK networks from Carphone Warehouse/Bestbuy....need to know if they have a fix!
Just tried sending an MMS to myself (may not be a valid test ) and pic looks fine.
On O2 UK (Simplicity package) using Handcent SMS. Rooted running 2.3.1 at the moment.
I've played around with the "stock" APN's which may or may not be relevant - happy to post settings if needed.
Yeah if you could post setting so I can compare that would be great!
I have tried sending a pic from the camera to myself and thats blurry also! As well as ones other people have sent me.
Dont know if its the phone settings then or something in your rooted ROM may have rectified it? Hmm...
I'm not in the UK, but 2.3.1 corrected the blurry mms for me.
which network are you on?
i believe there is some switch that can be turn on/off on the network.
when i first switch from iphone to N1, i have similar problem.
sending a MMS to iphone is not a issue (other than needing to manually resize the picture), but upon receiving MMS, it comes in a very small picture.
at that time, i heard other users on other network does not have this issue.
if you have friends on other network, maybe you will want to borrow their sim to give it a try.
When you took these APN details and put them in...did you get a green circle by them? When I entered all the details in manually.....I havent got a green circle and after reboot the net/mms wouldnt work at all! Had to "restore default" to get them back (still blurry!! haha)
You get the green circle for the default APN (afaik this should be set to the 3G/Data APN you have setup)
I don't have a green circle (MMS APN set as default) next to the MMS APN either.
You should also ensure you have your 3G/data APN set as default (use the settings on that post if needed) and just delete the other APN's from the list.
Outgoing MMS is fine, resizes ok....and an be viewed on the other handsets with no issues.....its only incoming MMS that goes blurry beyond recognition
Firstly thanks to Highland3r this post with the MMS APN settings got sending and receiving working on my Nexus S! Secondly also being on O2 UK I concur the MMS messages all come through with low res small scaled pictures. I had the same issue on my previous HTC hero too.
Its definitely down to O2 not recognising the capabilities/supporting the phone type so it defults to the lowest res/size their MMS server supports.
OP you got a complete BS answer off O2 - They should simply add the nexus S into their list of supported phones and ensure their MMS server knows about them!
Sorry to bring up such an old thread but did anyone manage to solve the problem of the blurry mms's? I'm on giffgaff which uses the o2 network and have the same problem. Funnily enough it seemed fine when I first used it and friends pictures that they sent me were coming through at about 200k. I recently had to do a reinstall of the firmware and im having troubles now. I can send myself a picture via the stock app or gosms and can see it has resized it to 150k+ for outgoing but when I receive it back it has resized to anything below 20k making it un viewable.
I started using the Handcent SMS app, instead of the stock one, and it seemed to fix the problem for me
I hesitate to post because you might search for something like "Mango Focus MMS" and get a hit....
I posted about this and that I used the samsung connection tool from the samsung marketplace on my focus to reset up the connection but it requires a SIM unlocked phone.
Alternatively someone else posted this to try as well but I have no idea how well it works:
There is no black magic or noobs guesswork and assumptions: just edit your APN settings at Settings->Cellular->Edit APN, that's all, folks.
AT&T settings, for example (sorry, but you didn't specify your provider)
Very well documented procedure:http://developer.att.com/developer/forward.jsp?passedItemId=1700008
So, type in (all small characters):
[Q] Nexus S and Softbank (Japan): How to get it working?
Hey guys,
I seriously need your help. I can't receive MMS (S!Mail) with my Nexus S and the japanese carrier Softbank, no matter what I try. Last year the same problem with my old Motorola Milestone.
Android 2.3.5, CM ROM #167 nightly
Baseband: I9023XXKD1
In 2009, I bought a silver USIM Prepaid from Softbank (still valid) with a Softbank 822p phone.
Until now I tried the smile.world and openmms APN, different Apps (Handcent SMS, Go SMS Pro, Softbank Mail), but I can only receive notifications. It shows a download button, but if I hit that, I get the instant error "download not possible. Please try again later". Wifi turned off.
This didn't help as well:
http://ryufly.wordpress.com/2011/07...end-receive-mms-after-upgrading-to-cm7-1-rc1/
If anybody can help, that would be great! Every little hint is appreciated.
does the softbank mail app not work?
found this:
http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...arp-Android-phones-with-Softbank-(Go-SMS-Pro)
Using another SMS/MMS app on Sharp Android phones with Softbank (Go SMS Pro)
First download the following apps:
Go SMS Pro
Go SMS Emoji Plugin
Under Receive Settings, check the Disable other message notification checkbox. This means SMS will only be received in Go SMS but unfortunately it cannot stop the MMS from being received by the stock app (more on that later)
In MMS Settings:
Check the Fill user agent manually checkbox (under User Agent)
Change the user agent to this:
Vodafone/1.0/V802SE/SEJ002 Browser/VF-NetFront/3.3 Profile/MIDP2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1
(Cant make any mistakes, so best to copy/paste)
Under APN Configuration, select Custom Access Point
MMSC: http://mms
MMS Proxy: sbmmsproxy.softbank.ne.jp
MMS Port: 8080
Under Important Tips, select the checkbox saying Stock messaging app uninstalled
If you dont select this then Go SMS wont download MMS at all. In that case Go SMS can be used for SMS only (i.e. other Softbank only) - MMS would go to the stock Softbank app.
In my case i hated how the Softbank app chews up 100% of the CPU for about 30 seconds as it tries to download an MMS. When you are playing a game it really makes you hate the sender for screwing up your gameplay!
Lastly go into the Softbank mail application
Settings → S!Mail Settings → Receive/Display Settings → Mail receive method → Change to Sender/Subject only. Then under notification settings, turn off the lamp, turn off vibration, change the notification sound to be something quiet like "Facebook Pop"
After all of that, when you get an email you will get a double notification - one from Go SMS and one from Softbank. Thats unavoidable unless you uninstall the Softbank app. But only Go SMS will get the full MMS, and you can keep ignoring the Softbank mail notifications
Seems to be working good for me so far. I love being able to type and reply to messages without the annoying "sending" screen. And being able to see new messages as they appear instead of having to get out of the message being edited, to see the new messages
i can confirm it works on my DHD
The key is not only getting the right apns but also getting that user agent string in your mms app.
Cyanogen mod can do it, or go sms pro too if you don't want to run cm.
@SQ3.0dotJP
Not even the Softbank Mail App works, giving me the same error message as other apps. The solution you quoted wont work as well.
Regarding error messages: the only thing I can achieve is that either I get an instant error message (cant download...) or a timout error message (trying to download...after some time: cant download).
I think it's a minor detail, but I cant figure it out.
@patrixl
How to configure the User Agent with CyanogenMod? The only option I know is within message apps like Go SMS Pro and Handcent SMS.
Never heard of it and won't finde informations about it with google. Could you elaborate on it a bit?
Hi guys,
I've spent the entire day trying to get this to work.
Just FYI, I have a Nexus S, rooted, Cyanogen mod 7 and just got a prepaid sim from softbank.
I've followed the instructions given here to the letter. Go SMS Pro is certainly a better app than the Softbank crap.
I can received messages, as in I caan see the title, but when I click them it says "Currently Unable to Download. Please Try Again Later". The same thing happens in the softbank app or another mms.apk I got where you could change the User Agent from a list. I also cannot send any messages, it just sits there with the little circle going around and around.
I've tried both the APNs that came with the Sim (Softbank(open) and Softbank(smile.world)) with no luck at all. I also downloaded the App the guy in the quoted post suggested, but it fails with any APN or web proxy combination.
I've also looked at other APNs online and tried a whole bunch.
I don't understand what setting is wrong. I've literally spent about 8 hours on this now, and I think I may be going a little crazy.
ANY help with this will be rewarded with knowing you have made my year (or at least my month).
Thanks very very much,
N.
SOLVED! Nexus S on Softbank Prepaid!
:clapping:
Hopefully this will help others who troll online trying to get their Android (perhaps a Nexus S) to work with Prepaid Softbank.
For the fix, I did the following. Note, one or two parts MAY be unneccesary, I'll test it all later. A quick note, I initially installed the Softbank Mail app from the Market, but since I'm rooted I just uninstalled it after it was all working and it still works GREAT! So you DON'T NEED to use that app. Just FYI.
Download the following:
Go SMS Pro
Go SMS Emoji (if you like Emoji)
Softbank Mail (Get rid of this if you are rooted)
Follow the instructions as stated by Tokyo_Dom, repeated here:
Go SMS
Under Receive Settings, check the Disable other message notification checkbox. This means SMS will only be received in Go SMS but unfortunately it cannot stop the MMS from being received by the stock app (more on that later)
In MMS Settings:
Check the Fill user agent manually checkbox (under User Agent)
Change the user agent to this:
Vodafone/1.0/V802SE/SEJ002 Browser/VF-NetFront/3.3 Profile/MIDP2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1
(Cant make any mistakes, so best to copy/paste)
Under APN Configuration, select Custom Access Point
MMSC: http://mms
MMS Proxy: sbmmsproxy.softbank.ne.jp
MMS Port: 8080
Under Important Tips, select the checkbox saying Stock messaging app uninstalled
If you dont select this then Go SMS wont download MMS at all. In that case Go SMS can be used for SMS only (i.e. other Softbank only) - MMS would go to the stock Softbank app.
Softbank Mail
Settings → S!Mail Settings → Receive/Display Settings → Mail receive method → Change to Sender/Subject only. Then under notification settings, turn off the lamp, turn off vibration, change the notification sound to be something quiet like "Facebook Pop"
APN Settings
On your Android, go to "Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks". Make sure only "Date enabled" is checked, you don't need national or international roaming.
Then click "Access Point Names". Here I deleted EVERYTHING so it wouldn't get confused. I don't want 3G internet, as on Prepaid it is crazy expensive.
Add a new APN with the following details:
Name: Mail Web Service (This can be anything you want)
APN: mailwebservice.softbank.ne.jp
Proxy: sbwapproxy.softbank.ne.jp
Port: 8080
Username:softbank
Password:qceffknarlurqgbl
Server: <Not set>
MMSC: http://mms/ (< This is "http : // mms /" without the spaces if the forum removes urls)
MMS Proxy: sbmmsproxy.softbank.ne.jp
MMS Port:8080
MCC:440
MNC:20
Authentication: PAP
APN type: mms
Save this. Now, at this point you SMail/MMS MIGHT be working. If it is, congrats and please let me know. If it isn't there are a few further steps that should get you there. I've found these on different forums, so appologies if I don't give credit where due. I think I found them here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21545288
PPP File
There MAY be a file on your phone at : / system / etc / ppp / peers / pppd-Ril.options.
There wasn't on mine, but I created one anyway (oh yeah, probably need to be rooted for this). It contains two lines for the Username and password, which you must change to correspond to the same username and password in your APN settings. Otherwise, it never seems to use the right one, and therefore your MMS or data will not work. You'll need to root your phone and figure out how to edit or copy an edited file onto your phone. So, change those two lines to look like this:
user softbank
password qceffknarlurqgbl
Give it a try and see if it all works.
Data On/Off
For some reason, whenever I first turn on the phone, the messaging only receives a header for each message, but refuses to download the actual message body. Even if I click 'download' on the message in the message app, it will not work, and will give me an error.
For the solution, everytime you start up your android, go to "Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks". UNCHECK "Date enabled", then reCHECK "Date enabled".
It was specifically after this fix that my messages started to be downloaded. It may have been this alone, but I already did the other bits. I might investigate more later, but I don't want to stop a good thing ATM.
SOME OTHER TIPS AND TRICKS
1) Make sure the APN is set to "mms".
I also found that it would work with the APN type set to blank instead of 'mms' in my APN settings. HOWEVER, with it set to blank, it was CONSTANTLY, I mean non-stop, using my 3G connection (as indicated in the status bar). It was trying to connect to the internet I presume. My Softbank prepaid service includes messaging but not internet service, nor do I have the APN for internet in my settings. But, without specifying my mms APN as 'mms' type, it trys to use that APN for internet as well. Anyway, that drained my battery very quickly! Set it to 'mms' so your 3G radio isn't working overtime to no benefit.
2) Alternate APNS that MIGHT work
APN: mailwebservice.softbank.ne.jp
Proxy: leave blank
MMSC:http://mms/
MMS Port:8080
MNC:20
The major difference is MMSC and MMSC Proxy. On my phone I leave the „MMS proxy“ field blank, and the proxy address from this article (sbmmsproxy.softbank.ne.jp) into the MMSC field.
Sorry for MegaPost, just wanted to put this togeather for others to make it easy. It's about 24 hours work to finally get it sorted.
Thanks for clarifying things! I should have no problems now.
hey travisler just wondering - is your Nexus s a cdma version? I've been trying to get prepaid s-mail to work on my samsung captivate and it hasn't really been working. I'm just wondering if it's a hardware issue like whether the captivate just can't connect to softbank's mms network
Hey tanjierong,
My phone is from Korea so is GSM I'm pretty sure.
It is all still working fine, if you can connect to softbank (ie. you can make a call or recieve) then this hack should work for you. It has worked for a few other friends here too now with random android phones.
Hope you get it sorted.
Thanks
Omg travisler... I've been cracking my head since one month in Japan. Using Xperia s and I just can't get the app working. Tried several methods like pushing through mms.apk file using adb still doesn't works. Until I came across your post, works like a charm dude. Thanks a lot. Now I don't have to carry two phones at once :fingers-crossed:
Great bit of info you have provided here travisler.
I have put my Softbank 'dumbphone' (708sc) grey SIM into my Motorola Milestone, Cyanogenmod 7 phone. I want to use it like a 'dumbphone' that can use wifi so I have no need for a 'smartphone' data plan. It works as a telephone and I am in the process of getting 'text messaging' working. I have been reading quite a bit online and there is much information about getting MMS to work.
When one enables data as the APN guide instructs, this will only apply to MMS and not accidentally lead to huge bills for someone without a smart-phone data plan will it?
I followed the 'GO SMS' guide but not the 'APN Settings' guide and I ignored 'Softbank Mail', then rebooted. I get a new MMS sender and title notification in GO MMS Pro but when I try to download the full message I get the warning "please check that the network is available".
So I followed the instructions in the 'APN Settings' guide. There were already a couple of Softbank APNs there, they had a radio button beside them but my new one didn't. After a reboot there was a new icon (3G?) in the notification bar and I could download MMS but the first SB APN was still checked - I suppose the phone was using that SB APN and not the custom one. I removed both the original 2 SB APNs and rebooted and now I am back to receiving the warning "please check that the network is available" when I try to download MMS.
My MMS address is ****@q.vodafone.ne.jp as I already had a Vodafone subscription when Softbank took over and I cannot change the address to ****@softbank.ne.jp, would this require a tweak on the MMS settings I inputted?
Or perhaps my SIM card is the issue. It is not a 'pre-paid' SIM but one from my contracted 'dumb-phone'.
I'd appreciate some help please.
Thank you very much!
This worked for me with the white prepaid SIM.
I did all the steps you listed and used the first APN settings that you recommended, except that I had to set the APN type to "default,mms".
If I only enter "mms", I would sometimes get the 3G icon, but I could not download the messages.
I tried this and still no go. I have a sh203 sharp from softbank. I added the apn but i cannot edit the stock apn since i cannot find a way to root my phone.
When i chose the apn i created i loose my internet data..
