[gpl][kernel]Bakedsnack1.4 Kernel - Epic 4G Android Development

Hey guys just wanted to share the kernel from my 1.4 rom. of course its not gunna be as fast on other roms as ive built it around my rom but i can pretty much guarantee it is faster than whats out. not in linpack but in speed.
this kernel overclocks to 1.3ghz but may not work for everyone considering everyones phone is different. (some people cant run 1.2!)
http://bakedsnackshack.com/source/herospecial.zip (lowest voltages for 1.3ghz)
http://bakedsnackshack.com/source/1.4.stock.zip (the stock kernel from baked 1.4)
source code: http://bakedsnackshack.com/source/sickybrapbraps.tar.gz (uploading)
oh and battery is very good

"i can pretty much guarantee it is faster than whats out. not in linpack but in speed"
Faster than ACS xtreme kernel?

Yes I'm quite sure. Test their 1.6ghz versus my 1.0ghz. Tell me what you find. And 1.3 is just stupid fast

It is faster than ASC xtreme on Baked Snack 1.4
And to be fair, I've only tested ASC xtreme on Baked Snack 1.4. I'm sure on Syndicate ROM, xtreme kernel performs better, just as herospecial probably performs better on Bakedsnack ROM.

Not much of a surprise there... This kernel was built for Baked Snack, and our kernel was built for SyndicateROM!

It should be faster on any rom. But there are many other tweaks to my rom making it the fastest on that

Given that init.rc is in the initramfs, and that your kernel should be/is overwriting it, that's probably not the issue. We did remove iqmsd after killing it in init.rc, but chances are that won't affect anything (unlike libiq_client.so and libiq_service.so, which remain).

Its not overwritin anything. Unless you have a pointless initramfs folder in your rom. I was saying that maybe your boot setup in init.rc may differ. Guess not but it sounds ramdisk related unless I uploaded the wrong file. Great work on acs by the way. Looks good

Yes Herver, but since I like testing, I find myself flashing and trying different ROMs / kernel combinations on a weekly basis. I have to say, herospecial.zip (1.3 ghz @ stock voltage) was ridiculously fast and stable for me. I've also had the best battery life from Hero's ROMs, and 1.4 is no different. Currently, I'm testing out SyndicateROM which is running Devin's Xtreme kernel, and that is also very solid. Might keep it for a while unless I can't get good battery life like I used to get with yours. It all depends on preference, I really like your themed out ROMs too, but may play around with Syndicate for a bit. Even schizo's Epic Experience is something I test around in between all this as well.
I'm just glad we're finally getting to see the potential of this phone due to developers like yourselves. Much appreciated

[KERNEL][GPL][ACS]Xtreme Kernel v1.2.0-Lucy-1.3GHz OC,Battery,Tweaked Voodoo(options)

ANDROID CREATIVE SYNDICATEpresentsXTREME KERNEL V1.2.0
First of all, I want to put my thank yous up here at the top, so, here they are:
-geniusdog254 - My primary teammate, been helping me every step of way.
-nullghost - One really cool dude. Always on when I ask for help. Git would still be a scary thing if not for him.
-rjmjr69 - Funny, funny dude. Keeps me motivated to keep going
-The Voodoo Team - Your work is awesome!
-My beta testers - You were/are all great. Thanks for helping me with this!
-All the devs across the board - Seriously, you're all a bunch of absolutely awesome people.
-Anyone I forgot - You're all great!
Now, here we go:
THE STANDARD DISCLAIMER
I, DevinXtreme, AM NOT responsible for what happens to your phone, your cat, your house, or anything relating to you! If your phone bricks, OH WELL. Have a nice day.
This kernel has a MixUp kernel base. DI18, blah blah. I deviated once Interactive got working. I also removed the Voodoo color modification. So, there's that.
It is built and designed for Syndicate ROM, which will be out later tonight. Sickest ROM you've ever seen. The version released with the ROM is slightly different, but only for fun's sake
Changelog:
v1.2.0
-Removed the 1.6GHz step. The time machine is gone. Plus, was causing more problems than it was helping.
-Added 1.3GHz step courtesy Herver
-Switched from MPLL to APLL. Smoothness and speed increase. Thanks to nullghost for help on this.
-Added Voodoo color mod, tweaked version, courtesy Herver. I will be maintaining a no-voodoo version. I just haven't yet.
-Tweaked the light sensor, adding a new step and made it not jump to the brightest setting as much. Should save battery and transition smoother. Also pols a little more often.
-Tweaked scaling rules for 1.3GHz. Should scale there less, thus saving battery.
ADDITION: The file ending in 'nv.zip' is a no-voodoo version. The file ending in 'ov.zip' is the version for the original voodoo mod, not the tweaked one.
v1.0.1
-Fixed scaling. Linpack scores and tests work fine now.
-Disabled Carrier IQ in init.rc. Carrier IQ is essentially Sprint spyware. Kernel devs: This is really easy to do. Just comment out the iqmsd lines at the end.
v1.0
-Overclock to 1.6GHz!! Requires SetCPU which is, for some reason, defaulting to performance. Make sure you change it to conservative.
-Default governor without SetCPU is conservative with 200MHz-1GHz steps.
-Removed Voodoo
-Framerate unlocked (78-80fps)
-Built for ROMs with a custom boot. Makes stock boot look like garbage. We're working (still) to fix this.
-Undervolted
KNOWN BUGS:
-In spare parts, if you set the WiFi policy to never sleep, it still sleeps with the screen off. -skandranon314
-Some weird vibration thing going on when 1.6GHz is hit.
NOTES:
Linpack is being strange with this. I'm getting between 9.2 and 9.8 with some REALLY strange numbers. I'll have this fixed this weekend.
SetCPU sets the default governor to performance. If you use it, be sure to change it immediately for battery life.
FOR 1.2
-I recommend 200MHz-1200MHz. Some phones can't reach 1.3GHz safely.
-200MHz - 800/1000MHz is a great setting for battery and you should still have a very smooth experience.
For those who care, I get 1135+ in quadrant.
You can read my source here.
Thanks, guys. I hope you enjoy!

Ok, good. I was worried for a sec
So would you recommend flashing the new one when it's up since you're tweaking it?
Hmm.. something's not right here. I just got 22 fps in Neocore with the removed kernel. What could I be doing wrong?
Edit: Switching from performance to conservative upped my results to 62 fps which is quite respectable.

what kind of voltage are you giving it to get 1.6 stable? based on what im reading, anything above 1.3/1.4 is pretty much unachievable on these devices and is not really the speed that the device is running thus the unscaled rise in benchmark scores. iv been following hero_over and he couldnt get a stable 1.4 OC although he did get 1.3ghz on stock volts stable..which keeps me wondering if we really can hit 1.6 stable

All of it is on my git. I release my source, as devs should with GPL. The problem is that the fsb isn't scaled properly, affecting the floating point processor, causing low Linpack scores. I'll have it worked out this weekend,

[Q] Custom Kernel

I installed the Infused 1.5.3 ROM on my Samsung Infuse 4G.
I've been looking around at the kernels, and I was just wondering if the one that goes with Infused 1.5.3 is fine as-is or if there's a more stable one that also provides better battery life and speed.
Stay with what I've got, or go with a different one?
Most people are happy with the kernel thats included in the phone already but custom kernels provide much more options as far as battery life, over/underclocking, over/undervolting, the way the cpu treats the voltages. It is all in preference.

Mostly all custom kernels are worth flashing. The hardest part is choosing so people usually flash 1 for a couple days to test out and flash another for the next couple of days and so on.

Thank god. Though it's not much trouble reinstalling apps so much as it is doing the entire setup process from scratch.
Right now there isn't much difference between the kernels out there except for gtg's Community Voodoo and Infusion OC/UV - over the past few weeks, most of the kernel devs have been cross-applying each other's patches.
GTG's kernel - Minimal changes, gtg has been focusing on ROMs/Gingerbread, handing off kernel work to others
Defuse kernel - This is one of the most mature kernels out there, LinuxBozo is a kickass kernel dev. It was the first one to have reasonably working BLN.
Infusion - Infusion carries about half of the enhancements present in Defuse in its current release and adds overclocking/undervolting. The next Infusion release (which is a bit overdue - bedwa had a crazy week) will contain everything present in Defuse except possibly for BLN, plus it has overclocking/undervolting.
None of the kernels really do anything to touch power management except for the Infusion undervolting code, so you shouldn't see any significant differences in battery life unless you run Infusion and undervolt.

All CPU's are different. Some phones will have no problem running at 1.6ghz. Some will. It's a trial and error thing.
If you are worried, start conservative and work your way up.
would you say that overclocking your phone is worth it? i know that it can really improve the performance of the phone... but it greatly decreases the battery life... and vice versa u can lower it and increase bat life n lower performance. im looking at opinions also thanks for the reply!!

I personally have the Infusion kernel running on my phone, which allows me to OC my device, but I don't want to. I've come across no normal instance when I've found that I needed the extra power. I mainly wanted it so that I could undervolt (UV) which improves battery life.
Adding a custom ROM and also adding voodoo (most ROM's have voodoo) will increase the performance of your phone.
I'm running Infusion 2.0 on Infused 1.5.3 right now (waiting for GB HDMI capabilities...thanks AT&T) and I'm loving it.

Launcher Pro is a homescreen alternative. You can change things up, add different transition effects.
For instance, my homescreen is attached.

Mikey passed out 1-2 MIUI builds as a proof of concept on IRC a while back, but it took the existing problems with CM7 (MIUI is layered over CM7) and added new ones, so it's on hold until more of the issues with base CM7 get fixed.

There's no way you took your device to 1.8 - our devices can't go past 1.6 without overclocking the system bus, and the system bus does NOT like to overclock. The best anyone has done was around 1664 MHz and it was unstable as hell for a lot of people.
Some versions of Infusion reported operating at 1.8, but that's because bedwa made some mistakes in his PLL calculations - he thought those settings would run the CPU at 1.8 but they actually ran it at around 1.55

fastest anyone has reported to have gotten a hummingbird legitamately that i have seen was a kernel for the fascinate that had a really goofy timing stucture and had problems with other hardware. they reported the cpu running @ 1.7ghz with the gpu and bus at some really goofy speeds and fluctuated as the cpu scaled. it looked like a total mess.
Really the highest most people can go is 1.6 stable, which is what I'm running at.

Faux Kernel or Trinity Kernel CM7

Currently on CM7 nightly 199, wondering which kernel I should use.. Has anyone here tried both?
Have you read teh last 5-10 ish pages from each kernel? Theres your feedback. All the phones are a little different, you have to try them out and see how they work for your phone.

I've tried both and on CM7 Nightly 199, I prefer morfic's Trinity kernel. For a while he didn't have the SOD patch like faux123 did, but now that he does I'm back on his kernel. I use the ELP kernel and I like his philosophy of "less is more".
Plus his kernels have CM7 CPU settings support, which I like since I prefer not to use 3rd party CPU apps, though I am currently enjoying Pimp My CPU a lot with all of its updates.
Thanks for the insight! I think I might flash Trinity. Is battery life better/the same as stock? I definetly dont wanna flash if its gonna be worse.

I believe both Trinity and faux123's kernel give better battery life, though I've never stayed with the CM7 kernel very long to know to what extent.
I have to agree with all the others. Both kernels tend to give slightly better performance with better battery life. I tend to lean more towards the Trinity kernel because the CPU adjustments can be modified through the CM settings.
I only say that for issues that crop up with people who post on that thread, and have not read this thread. I wasn't being mean or anything, you can get opinions here for sure, you can just view more detailed bugs or current issues on the thread itself. Maybe I was a little short, in wich I'm sorry... but I have tried both and my opinions will differ most likely in comparison to the way his phone will react to each kernel.
Wasn't trying to come off as an ass =) sorry if i did. that's just what I do to view day to day current updates/bugs.
But I can say I used to use trinity t11 that worked wonderfully, then I had issues and bugs on the new ones (t15 and betas) so now I'm on faux's ds version and I get a good battery life now.

That's true, if you want voodoo sound, stick with faux123's kernel. If you look at morfic's thread though, it's probably coming back to his fairly soon thanks to supercurio.

[KERNEL] FauxCode [No longer in Development][Sources in OP]

Kernel is no longer in public development
Clarification as to the why Im stopping
Echoa said:
I am not committed enough to this to do so. Havent even touched it since the last update and dont feel the need to, I really would much rather leave it as I do not wish to get very involved in kernel stuff, etc.
I feel like posting source means I have intent to support, maintain, etc. this stuff and I dont. Its not just a matter of the posting source, its that I only posted the kernel because it was Fauxs and Codecrafts sources I used (only using the GPU OC from Codecraft) and since they shared their work so graciously I felt I should share my modified version of it. I dont want credit for work I didnt do because someone used my sources (which arent even really mine). Ive used github before and know how, its easy, but like I said I feel that would send a message I dont intend.
If there is someone who wants to actually maintain it i will gladly give you the source if you PM me.
TL;DR Im not leaving the kernel scene just because of source posting, its because this was just a fun little thing I did and dont plan on doing that long.

"oh, dont feel like posting source so bye"
Ill cya guys around, just not posting a kernel lol
Ive been weeding out things that take too much of my time away from my intended career of comics/animation, this is one of them, and considering I didnt have much intent for it in this first place i may as well leave it now.
Sorry for the lack of info on my part guys as to exactly "why" Ive decided this. Hopefully these past posts give more clarity. Im glad the kernel was well recieved and works well for you guys, but I didnt intended to do this that long in the first place. Ill zip the source and add it to the OP for someone to grab and play with.

Sources
DO NOT CREDIT ME FOR THESE SOURCES
This is the work of Faux123 and Team Codecraft, I merely slapped the GPU OC from CC into faux. Everything you need to get started is here, and please thank the Devs who actually worked hard to put their sources and kernels together.
Also, if you have an issue with the source you may PM me, I dont intend to continue this kernel but I will help someone who does get started.

Is there a reason some Kernel's use 2.5GHz for OC instead of 2.8GHz? Or is it just personal preference?
Great job on this kernel

Preference
You hit a thermal wall real fast at 2.8 and end up throttled anyway
From what I can tell this is a performance based kernel, yes?

What app are you using to configure all those "recommended settings" on your phone? Rom toolbox?

Yes and No, I wanted to power savings of Faux but the GPU performance of Codemaster.

Can anyone give feedback on this with ViperRom? I know their ROMS don't work well with all custom kernels
Nice gonna give this a shot

My Wi-Fi won't hardly work on this just like on faux. I don't know of its the Wi-Fi drivers or what, but only stock based kernels work well on my phone. What can I do to help figure this out.
Hey, has anyone tried restoring a kernel backed up via Flashify? Wanna give this a shot, but I'd like to have a backup of what I've got now first...
?✌??? ?

what update/rom are you on? Just saying wifi drivers dont work right wont really help (and figures it wouldnt since it essentially is faux lol) more info would be nice but tbh I really couldnt tell you. I havent had any wifi issues on any kernel Ive tried.
New Update Includes
More Compiler Optimizations
Update now includes latest userspace Adreno drivers from Qualcomm
will be last update till something nifty comes along so enjoy

go to CPU Governor and click show/update and thats where they are. The letters are abbreviations for the settings once you see them youll get it. Click the settings one at a time and type the values in and hit save for them to show up (they dont appear till you click save).
