Kernel is no longer in public development
Clarification as to the why Im stopping
Echoa said:
I am not committed enough to this to do so. Havent even touched it since the last update and dont feel the need to, I really would much rather leave it as I do not wish to get very involved in kernel stuff, etc.
I feel like posting source means I have intent to support, maintain, etc. this stuff and I dont. Its not just a matter of the posting source, its that I only posted the kernel because it was Fauxs and Codecrafts sources I used (only using the GPU OC from Codecraft) and since they shared their work so graciously I felt I should share my modified version of it. I dont want credit for work I didnt do because someone used my sources (which arent even really mine). Ive used github before and know how, its easy, but like I said I feel that would send a message I dont intend.
If there is someone who wants to actually maintain it i will gladly give you the source if you PM me.
TL;DR Im not leaving the kernel scene just because of source posting, its because this was just a fun little thing I did and dont plan on doing that long.

Ill cya guys around, just not posting a kernel lol
Ive been weeding out things that take too much of my time away from my intended career of comics/animation, this is one of them, and considering I didnt have much intent for it in this first place i may as well leave it now.
Sorry for the lack of info on my part guys as to exactly "why" Ive decided this. Hopefully these past posts give more clarity. Im glad the kernel was well recieved and works well for you guys, but I didnt intended to do this that long in the first place. Ill zip the source and add it to the OP for someone to grab and play with.

DO NOT CREDIT ME FOR THESE SOURCES
This is the work of Faux123 and Team Codecraft, I merely slapped the GPU OC from CC into faux. Everything you need to get started is here, and please thank the Devs who actually worked hard to put their sources and kernels together.
Also, if you have an issue with the source you may PM me, I dont intend to continue this kernel but I will help someone who does get started.

Is there a reason some Kernel's use 2.5GHz for OC instead of 2.8GHz? Or is it just personal preference?

You hit a thermal wall real fast at 2.8 and end up throttled anyway

Hey guys just wanted to share the kernel from my 1.4 rom. of course its not gunna be as fast on other roms as ive built it around my rom but i can pretty much guarantee it is faster than whats out. not in linpack but in speed.
this kernel overclocks to 1.3ghz but may not work for everyone considering everyones phone is different. (some people cant run 1.2!)

And to be fair, I've only tested ASC xtreme on Baked Snack 1.4. I'm sure on Syndicate ROM, xtreme kernel performs better, just as herospecial probably performs better on Bakedsnack ROM.

Given that init.rc is in the initramfs, and that your kernel should be/is overwriting it, that's probably not the issue. We did remove iqmsd after killing it in init.rc, but chances are that won't affect anything (unlike libiq_client.so and libiq_service.so, which remain).

Yes Herver, but since I like testing, I find myself flashing and trying different ROMs / kernel combinations on a weekly basis. I have to say, herospecial.zip (1.3 ghz @ stock voltage) was ridiculously fast and stable for me. I've also had the best battery life from Hero's ROMs, and 1.4 is no different. Currently, I'm testing out SyndicateROM which is running Devin's Xtreme kernel, and that is also very solid. Might keep it for a while unless I can't get good battery life like I used to get with yours. It all depends on preference, I really like your themed out ROMs too, but may play around with Syndicate for a bit. Even schizo's Epic Experience is something I test around in between all this as well.
I'm just glad we're finally getting to see the potential of this phone due to developers like yourselves. Much appreciated

Depending on which governor you choose. Scary seems to really keep tabs on it well. I'm at 1900/245 and when I run Scary the battery doesn't run down at all. I'm not a fan of the performance though, as it is too slow to react sometimes. Still working on the others, so no solid opinions yet.

I don't see why you would underclock your phone that slow... 245 is way too slow for a phone made to run default at 1ghz. You'll have screen wake issues and uber response problems... duh.. I don't see why ppl turn their smartphones into expensive paperweights just so they can extend battery life. I'd rather have a phone that computes efficiently than one that doesn't even want to process. 600 MHz min is just fine.
Sent from my Triumph using Tapatalk
245 would be the minimum clock speed, not the maximum My guess is that when your phone is asleep, it would use as little resources as possible.

ok i have been using harsh kernel with aokp rom for about a week and i have had the greatest battery improvement. I literally get about with music playing throughout the day, constant texting, some calls, and some games; I get about a day and a half of battery and sometimes more. Idk if its just me but I was wondering is anybody else getting better results or the same results is there something better then what I got? Does the hellfire 1.6 have better battery or better performance then the aokp?
No one ROM or kernel is the best. They are all different and good in their own ways. If you're curious about if another ROM is better for you, the best way to find out is by flashing it. If your asking me, the best kernel for me is a custom built from source version of harsh without the overclocking and with done of nordics scripts and optimizations built in. I also love aokp build 29.
Now the next 20 posts can be 20 different roms and kernels just like every single other thread just like this one.

lol yeah morfic's (autocorrect is going to destroy this country) i build most of what i use from their sources, and i frequently mix and match things. its just something i do for myself. while i could release it out for people, not many would want to use what i have. i add alot of broken and ugly things to system apps. i even remove entire parts of the framework sometimes because i dont use them.
if you just want the best of both worlds (speaking of harsh and morfic's kernels) you can just flash morfic's then flash harsh's and you will get some of morfic's IO settings to stay behind.
im double posting on purpose, harsh has stated that people should not be flashing his kernel over morfic's
so im gonna retract my last post. if you want improvements, your gonna have to wait till he implements them.

each phone is different and handles voltages and OC different so for you or anyone to say one kernel for a rom is better than another is completely idiotic, the best kernel for cm9 is the cm9 kernel unless u need performance in a certain area, thats where custom kernels can be better, reading the threads would tell you this so look who is the idiot now nub...
air kernel gets updated more than matrix so you really have no argument there...
air kernel gets updated more bc of all of the "fixes" and the develper's work is mostly copied from the work of other more talented people. and the OP here asked a question and we answered. your right that each phone is different. but i didnt see you take issue with the person who said that air kernel is more stable, or that cm9 kernel is good enough. they both also stated their opinions without the caveat which we all should know already, that each phone is different and the kernel that is best for one person is not necessarily best for another and that it really depends on your usage and customization preferences we should all know that by now. the OP just asked which was better and I think Matr1x is better. so now what

I'm looking for a kernel or kernel tweak to fix an issue. My issue isn't with how fast games are running (I can drudge through the bits of lag, its not that bad) or the screen freezing. Its with touching the screen in two places at the same time. I've read about the touch screen CPU spikes, where every time you touch the screen the CPU jumps to 100%. Which would make sense to why when I'm playing games the button pad (on the right side of my screen) hits the corresponding button I'm holding down on the directional pad (on the left side of my screen) and visa versa. Thus making most games, especially games that require jumping in certain directions and hitting two buttons at the same time almost impossible to play.
Currently I'm running backside iho cm7.2 and I'd love to keep this rom so I'm looking for something compatible. I've already tried flashing 4 other kernels and got stuck at boot and had to restore each time which is why I'm not just trying kernel after kernel on my own and looking for recommendations. I'm not really worried about much else in the kernel besides fixing the touch screen bug, overclocking over and governors like performance, smartassv2 and conservative.
Or if there's a script I can run to fix this that would be wayyyyy rad also.

yup, and I haven't changed roms or kernels since flashing backside about a year ago since it worked so well, and who knows how long it had been since the kernel was messed with when I flashed it.

I can compile, or at least try to compile, a kernel for you to test. However, I will only have time for that on Monday or Tuesday. Do you mind waiting until then?

If you want the fixes to that kernel, then sure
Can you give me a link to his kernel? And what fixes did you want to see?
Looks like you want a CPU spike fix, axis inversion fix, and the governors you mentioned?

I linked the rom and kernel in the first post, they came together yeah I pretty much just want the multitouch to be better so I can actually play games that require me to touch the screen at two places at once haha
Thanks alot man I've been on the compatible kernel search for a couple weeks, dunno how many times I had to restore cause it gets stuck at the LG splash (I've even let it sit for over an hour just in case)
If there's anything you can throw in there to improve performance that would be rad but it's not too big of a deal, only game that really lags bad is GTA3

Didn't have much time, so I just attempted to fix the lag and the multi touch problem. As promised, the kernel is here:
http://code.google.com/p/sweetnsour-kernel/downloads/list
Look for VM670-version1-CFS. If I get the time, I can improve it some more, but for now, it is just going to be a fix for the two problems. As for the governors, the governors that you've mentioned are already included, unless you were talking about an upgrade for the governors.
Hopefully I compiled the right kernel, as bobzhome made different branches of the kernel. Please tell me how it goes
So I tried it and I can't tell anything is different :/

Sorry, now that I think about it, the touchscreen driver I put in that kernel is better suited for ICS. I'll have another kernel up with a different touchscreen driver tomorrow.
Uploaded a kernel with the same touchscreen driver, the reason being I don't believe I compiled the previous kernel with the touchscreen driver. I believe I just gave you the same kernel that you had before. Please try it now and tell me if anything has changed.

Good science. Any worthwhile experiment needs a placebo in there, somewhere.

Unintentional though
Alrighty so I have been busy and haven't been able to tinker with my phone, but I decided to try it again today, cleared cache and dalvik and flashed it, booted up normal after usual amount of time after flashing. Once booted and as usual adw ex and everything else on link2sd wasn't there so I let it sit for like 20 min and rebooted, which usually gets adw ex and link2sd to be back up and goin smooth, but the phone never booted again. Got past all the usual boot stuff but just sat on a black screen (through the entire movie prometheus haha) so thank god I made a backup to restore cause I tried a battery pull a couple times. Sooooo I dunno what's up
