Engadget Review - myTouch 4G General

They were pretty harsh, but they had to give props grudgingly...

Yeah. I think the black is far from ugly, it is slick and close to Nexus appearance. The browser is "butter" and so is HTC mail pinch to zoom. I would of gave it a 9, but that is based on my preference. I am loving the hardware, processor and available rom, which makes this 10+...that's is what really counts, the way the device runs. Plus I love Sense. And the Desk clock, Flip Clock.

I agree with them that most of the colors look like pieces thrown together into one phone, but the black looks cohesive and awesome!
As far as the mySense UI, I prefer stock Android, but this UI has some very cool features, that they completely dismissed.

Overall I agree with most of the points just not to the same degree.
Engadget made a much bigger problem out of things that aren't that big of a deal in my opinion. I got the g1 when it first came out and replaced it with the Nexus One. Had that for almost a year when I got the G2 which I now switched for the mytouch 4G. I like the mytouch better and will keep it although engadget praised the G2 and kinda trashed the MT4G.
Like the review said, the negatives are mainly opinion based (its hard to argue with the awesome specs and other hard facts). Its just that engadget seems to have surprisingly strong opinions on the little stuff.

I really wouldn't let the "opinions" deter anyone from making up your own mind. Again, the specs are awesome, the rest comes down to personal preference.

My guess is that that they are upset they weren't given a unit to review for free and this was their temper tantrum. This phone is pretty slick and if it weren't for the nand issue, it would be one of the best devices out right now.

This is the sickest phone I have ever used and that engadget review was probably the most biased I've ever read so it doesn't even deserve to be acknowledged.

This is the sickest phone I've ever had. I've been through the g1, hd2, g2.. I love this phone.. Fast responsive and looks sick in white

Same here, something was up with that review. He bashed the smallest things.

Engadget wrote again a bs review. The black and red mt4gs are not ugly at all. I had a n1 before and that was in my eyes not really pretty. Taste is different. Engadget sets form over function, they are morons. Have you ever hold an iPhone 4 in your hand? Horrible and they praised that crap.

They are all apple fanbois, the phone doesn't feel or look cheap. Engadgets reviews are always biased against t mobile. What's up with everyone bashing on sense?
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA App

I read the review and it's honestly scaring me, primarily because it's telling me that the phone doesn't actually work AS A PHONE.
How true is what Engadget says about poor voice quality, not-too-loud speakerphone, and badly distorting speakerphone at loud volumes?
I don't expect the tiny speaker to be stunning audophile-grade gear, but basic functions like that need to work and have some headroom.

Their review is ****ing bull**** man. I think they are just mad because the myTouch 4G is the real iPhone killer. It has all the great features, great hardware, great software, ffc, customizable LED, and a superb design. In the review they bashed it for being cheap and plasticy, but only the white one has plastic on it. They fail to mention **** like that. It really makes me mad how they were hating this phone right from the get go. Someone that biased should not have written the review!
This is hands down the sickest phone I've ever used!
They also bashed sense which is funny. I consider myself a hardcore android user so of course I like stock android a lot. But honestly, when compared to Sense, stock android doesn't have nearly as much functionality or personality. Their review is hardly credible.

I agreed with you guys...they went cucu here..i love this phone..and I had many ****ing cellphones...i used to be a engadget review fan..not any more...i think the phone deserves way way better review...

Usually I like Engadget but I feel like they really had an axe to grind here. Why pick on Sense when Motorola is still doing Ninjablur (or whatever their new flavor of terrible is called)? This wasn't a review of the phone, it was an editorial against non-stock Android.
Also, I like how the review wrap-up is on the whole negative, but the phone still gets a 7/10.

When signal strength is high, or while using WiFi calling, the earpiece is crystal clear and surprisingly loud. I haven't really tested it while trucks or busses drive by, but overall, it's the loudest phone I've ever owned.
The speakerphone is also surprisingly decent. GPS navigation is loud and clear, while driving on the highway, listening to music. Talking on the phone while in the car works just fine, for me. There is a slight distortion on max volume, so I turn it down a notch. Overall, I find it to be plenty loud and plenty clear. For a reference, I find the phone to be as loud or even a bit louder than the Galaxy S. Maybe a little more 'tin' in the speaker than the Galaxy S, but way better than the terrible speaker on the G2. It's not the best speaker in terms of quality, and it does distort at the highest volume, but it is plenty loud and usable for phone functions.
I'm a big Engadget fan, but I have to say: Paul was the wrong person to review this phone. The entire review is simply a complaint about aesthetics and carrier customizations. I too would prefer less carrier bloat on my phones, and the speaker grill is really ugly and the genius button should be optional for those who prefer stock Search. Even so, it's hard to deny that this is a hot little phone.

Engadget Review
Yet another glaring example of the need for instant replay in major league baseball.

I usually like engadget's reviews, but this time I'm going to have to disagree with them.
I think the mytouch 4g is stunning. One of the best looking phones currently available.
I also really like the espresso sense ui. It's so much more polished than stock android. And this is coming from a person who has been using stock android since the g1 days. Maybe gingerbread might change that, but I personally love the espresso ui.
Just using the contacts app as an example. The sense version is so much nicer than the stock contacts app. The mail app again is significantly more polished than the stock mail app.
I've owned the g1, mytouch 3g, nexus one, and my wife has a g2. The mytouch 4g beats all of them.

Get a Inspire 4G or remain with my HD2?

Hi people,
I am a htc hd2 user and I am planning to get a Htc Inspire 4G or Desire HD. But I have a few questions regarding the inspire 4g before making a definite decision.
Coming from a Touch Pro2, my HD2 sound and call quality were much much much lower than the TP2 which was a disappointment, and sometimes it was really hard to hear the caller's voice in a crowded street. The music also was no good because it was so low and had to install SRS Wow to make it a little bit louder - still the quality is a let down.
I have also read that the Inspire 4G fails in low light conditions with noisy/grainy pictures and the flash was too bright. In my opinion, the photos taken in low light conditions with/without the flash are well below the quality of the HD2 - anyone can confirmed?
I would like to ask people if the call/music quality is louder/clearer than a HD2 and is the camera really below the HD2? These 2 factors are very important for me in choosing this phone and I would appreciate if anyone can give their opinion on this. Is it worth to change from an HD2 --> Inspire 4G?
Thanks people!!

Or it's possible that no one who has used an HD2 to compare to an Inspire has popped there head in yet. If someone is able to answer your question, they will. Patience, young Padawan. This forum is full of some of the most helpful people I've come across, if someone can help you, they will.
Unfortunately that person is not me
I will say that I think the call quality and the camera are both great. But I can NOT compare that to an HD2
Coming from a Tilt2, I can say I do miss some Windows features especially outlook tasks which is not available on Android.
Low light pics with flash do suck with this phone. But I don't use it as my main camera. Calls & sound however, I am very pleased. The thing I love most about this phone is Flash. I am able to stream from soccerlivetv.net and watch my games.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
I also came from the HD2. Unfortunately, I don't take a lot of pictures but of the few I've taken there isn't anything about the Inspire's pictures that made me say "Wow, that's good picture quality".
As for the sound, to me it seems comparable to the HD2, no better no worse. But my hearing isn't what it used to be so I'm not much help for you.
Overall I thought the HD2 was an awesome phone and had I lived in an area where I could get AT&T 3G service with my HD2, I probably wouldn't have gotten an Inspire.
I like my Inspire as much as my HD2, plus now I get 3G speeds! Other than that it is a very similar experience.
I also liked having the choice of OS with the HD2 (WinMo, Android, and WP7).
Thanks for your ouput! Very appreciate them Guess I'll keep my hd2 unless the inspire 4g next update corrects the camera bugs and adds something more than what we currently have on the Hd2.
i also came from a hd2(tmobile version on att) and i loved that phone. if i could have had 3g on it i would have stuck with it til something awesome like a 3d phone came out. the sound on the inspire is a little bit better than the hd2 but not much. and as for the camera the inspire has a little edge over the hd2 imo. but if you have 3g i would stick with the hd2 all day(pretty much the same phone when you have android nand on it). hope this helps
i'd def have to say the camera leaves much to be desired but i don't know how it compares to hd2 thou.
HD2 to Inspire 4G
I have had iphones, every version, nexus one, hd2, nexus S, etc etc.
I ultimately ended up on the HD2, absolutely love it. except battery life.
I just got my Inspire 4g today, and its so much better, used it all day, still have 60% battery, it is so much smoother, and i haven't even installed optimized ROM yet.
was torn over the Desire HD or the ATRIX, after playing with a ATRIX for 5 minutes i felt it was cheap plastic crap, and TELUS was being dicks about selling me a DHD outright, so i went for the INSPIRE 4G AT&T. not looking back..
HTC-INSPIRE_4G = Happy Camper..

Guilty
I didn't have anything to bring to the thread, I was just looking for a good compare/contrast review. If it means anything, I have the Inspire 4G and love it. Idk anything about the HD2 though.
i hope this helps
i recently came from hd2 and i LOVED my beloved hd2. there are days- like this morning when i am angry i sold it. then there are other days when i love my new inspire- and the adventure that lays ahead.
IMO- the camera on the inspire is insane, after flashing a rom- my sound improved, i receive mms whereas with the hd2- i had to find a fix, my inspire is smooth, fast, less buggy and there is a great group of people over here in the android portion of xda who are willing to answer questions and help out those needing help.
there are plus sides to both phones. it's a matter of personal taste.
I never used a TP2, but I can tell you that I traded out of an HD2 to an Inspire and I'm not looking back.
What you can expect from the Inspire is a significant overall improvement in user experience. Running an Android ROM off nand on an HD2 wasn't nearly as robust or reliable as the Inspire's next generaton Snapdragon CPU on a phone designed to run Android natively.
Even when running a 'cooked' ROM (RCMix 5.x) the phone is reliable and responsive. So far, everything just works. Period. I do think that the camera takes more crisp pictures than the HD2, but I haven't tested it in low-light conditions.
Whatever the shortcomings any given phone might be, I always remind myself that it's a phone. Not a function-specific device like an MP3 player, camera or GPS unit. To have all that functionality in one place at the same time is priceless and one needs to put the expectations into perspective.
I traded my hd2 and $100 for a new inspire. Yeah it was very customizable as there was/has been several roms and such for the device. But about 2 days ago my friend Jessica bought a hd2 and I put Android on it (desire hd port to be exact) and I then remembered, the lack of functions of the Android, and hassle just reminded me y I didn't miss it. Market apps wouldn't download or install correctly. Wouldn't read SIM card for contacts, etc. So get the inspire, its fast, strong, and beautifully designed.

Same here i had a Tilt 2 pro great phone running WMCore rom(sergio) then my buddy sold me his HD2 had it running Driod but loved the phone every little thing but only EDGE so im a sososososo proud owner of a Inspire 4G.
The deal breaker for me is no true 4g other then that great phone.
I came from an HD2 to the inspire, if you like sense, particularly the latest version with skins, go for the Inspire 4G. If you prefer a more vanilla Android experience like Cyanogen, I don't see any major advantage over the HD2. I'm a massive Sense fan and can tell you it runs far smoother on the Inspire. That said, I did try Cyanogen and between the two you would be pressed to notice much of a real world difference between the two.
Krisbo
I came from a euro TP2 and can tell you the following:
* here in the states my battery life isn't that great in comparison. I kept the TP2 on EDGE all the time and it was quite miserly.
* I like the thinner package much better.
* I adjusted quickly to the on screen keyboard.
* I like the flash but it is a bit greenish if left to auto white level.
* the speaker audio is better on the TP2, but I really like having a 3.5mm plug.
Bottom line- I won't go back. Too much goodness with Android and the Inspire.

Took part in focus group for SGSII and Sensation

I took part today in a focus group interview where they had me test out a Sensation 4G (which I already own anyway haha) and a Samsung Galaxy S II. It was pretty cool. They basically had the two phones there on a table with a camera pointed down at them, and I sat there testing out different aspects of them while the interviewer asked me to compare the 2 and talk about what I liked better.
After using both phones for about 2 hours, I have to say I was disappointed by the Galaxy S II. The way people were talking about it, I was expecting the most amazing phone in the world. In my eyes, the phone was barely faster and smoother than the Sensation, while the trade off here is that the Galaxy S II is very ugly, in every way. The design of the phone sucks, the interface sucks. The look of the settings menu and application menus reminds me of a windows 95 computer.
The touch sensitivity and smoothness of swiping the screen was a little bit better than the Sensation which I liked. But the applications launching and loading really was maybe 1 millisecond faster than the Sensation if at all.
This made me really happy with my decision to purchase the Sensation instead of waiting for the Hercules.
I cannot say I am surprised to see this posted here in this forum. Nor would I expect that the Galaxy S II is so much faster than the Sensation as to make the HTC phone feel slow. I am pretty sure that the Samsung phone is quicker overall. This is a good thing. It means that they are pushing innovation forward. I am still happy with the Sensation and as long as it remains as fast and reliable as it already is I will continue to be happy with it.

I kind of figured there wouldn't be a huge difference,if any at all.
It is nice to hear from someone who's actually used one though.
I'll have to try one out for myself when they come in at Bell.
I had my sexy sensation for nearly two months, still love it very much.

I do market research, tell me a little more about this focus group. Which company commissioned the research? Name of the research company running it? What questions did you have to answer in advance prior to being selected? Why you were selected? Objective for bringing the group together? How much were you paid? Focus groups are very structured - the don't put you in a room to play with toys for two hours. No offense, this sounds like a focus group of one.

Ok, first off I have a Sensation and a G2X and as I've said before I like both phones but the Sensation tickles my fancy a little more. That being said. I am not the type of person who thinks my phone is the best in the world and there are no others better. I hate it when people defend there phones to no end just because there stuck with it for a year or two. Not to sound stuck up or anything but if I want a phone, I buy it without thinking about how much it costs and I can tell you right now, as soon as the SGSII gets to the states on a carrier besides ATT, its mine. Why? Because its the best damn phone available right now. Samsung is constantely pushing the envolope with there displays and always have one of the most powerful mobile processors available. Not to mention, the only Angldroid phone available with hardware accelerated browsing. That right there is ****ing innovation. Samsung is also moving in the right direction with there TouchWiz UI unlike HTC who's moving in the wrong direction with Sense. TouchWiz is getting less intrusive while Sense is getting more intrusive with nothing but resource bogging eye candy. TouchWiz actually adds useful stuff to Android and I can't understand why anyone would dislike the new iteration. Just throw a launcher on top of it and you still get to keep the features that HTC and every other manufacture wish they thought of first such as swiping on your contacts to call them or start a text and the ever so useful drop down menu filled with wifi/GPS switches. Lastly, I don't understand how the GSII is ugly when its just a thin slab of plastic.....Oh, and don't even say its poorly made because my Vibrant was probably one of the most durable phones I've ever used while still remaining light enough to forget its even in my pocket.
Bottom line. Stop thinking your phone is the best.....Its NOT!

I think the design of the phone is more of a personal preference. I would buy the SGSII if it were design differently. As it is, I dislike the design of SGSII so much that I would never buy it even if it cost $200 outright. Again, it is a matter of personal preference.

Take it easy, psycho. First off, I didn't say my phone is the best. I clearly stated that the SGS II is faster, runs smoother. But first off, TouchWiz is a ****ty iOS ripoff so it'll be moving in the right direction when it redesigns it to be original. I didn't say the SGSII is poorly made, but it's ugly. The HTC Sensation is a much better looking phone, and I'm pretty sure every article online comparing the two noted this in its reviews. You're right I just made all this up, idiot. I have no idea what company commissioned the research as I do not work for the research group. This is all the information they gave me besides how to get there:
YOUR FOCUS GROUP:
Topic: Mobile phones
Time/Date/Length: 2 hours, Saturday, July 16, 2011
Payment Amount: $100
My buddy works for the research group he posted a status a week ago asking if anyone has HTC or Samsung phones and wants to make 100$ so I told him I did. He asked me a bunch of preliminary questions about what phone I have, if it had android, what apps I use, how often I use them, and a bunch of other similar questions. I then went to this nice office in downtown Chicago for the interview. They put two phones on a desk, the interviewer sat across from me, a camera recorded what I did on the phones from overhead, another camera recorded the interview, and then there were guys behind a one way mirror the interviewer said. There were a bunch of different categories that he had me test out such as the UI, the auditory UI functions, the music players, the lock screens, etc. As I tested he would ask me to comment on them and then rate them out of a certain number to show how satisfactory the categories of the phone were.
Why are people so hostile on these boards? I just related my own experience and my thoughts about the two phones, why are phaggots coming in here attacking me for that. Sorry for not fellating your god phone SGS II.

What I would like to know is how Touch Wiz is a rip off of iOS? Can you name 3 reasons why? Why do people who own both phones go into every ****ing opinion thread and attempt to ram their opinion that the Sensation is inferior down other people's throats?
If it is so much better and Samsung is so superior then they surely do not need you defending them so strenuously.
Supposedly superior hardware does not add up to a superior device for any given user. The iPhone is proof of that. The **** is totally subjective. One guy hates plastic and another hates Sense3.0. Who gives a ****
Do Sensation owners here go into the SGS2 forums to debate who has a better device? Asking honestly becuz I'm wondering. Is this **** to feel better about your purchase or are you at least getting paid by these manufacturers?
Jesus H Christ get some ****ing ***** or penis or whatever it is you lust after or take a damn zoloft and stfu.
Haha classic....

Focus groups are very structured - the don't put you in a room to play with toys for two hours. No offense, this sounds like a focus group of one.

Thank you. Truth be told, I liked the Vibrant's design, although it was a blatant iPhone 3Gs copy. However, the phone's various issues (GPS, RFS system, compass, to name a few) made me hate the phone. I wouldn't be surprised that half the people praising the SGSII are Galaxy S owners who claimed that they will never buy another Samsung again.
[sarcasm on] I suppose that the SGSII is a perfect phone, with no issues or glitches, especially considering who its manufacturer is. [sarcasm off]

During a short period of unemployment a couple of years ago, I participated in various focus groups set up by a company called The Focus Room. The e-mail notifications that I received from them looked exactly the same as what HarmonyK posted.
The top android phones imho are the sensation, galaxy s2, evo 3d, and the droid 3

For the record I do not own both phoned nor have I ever posted in the GSII forums. Why is it that people get mad when other Sensation owners give there opinion about different phones? HTC clearly released a product before it was optimized for best performance and ****ty drivers AS USUAL and I'm not the type of person who is going to defend any company just because I like there products or own there flagship phone. If you look back in my previous posts you will see that I have praised the Sensation to no end. Like I said before. Just curious about android

So I started with the android system on the tilt and tried many different phones and bashed apple, then I tried a iphone 3g and it was so easy to use and everything worked right, then 3ga, then iphone 4, gps, internet, calls aok worked so well, I don't like there whole world domination attitude so I have come back to android, and not much has change, right out of the box my infuse was garbage, worse signal then the iphone 4 which I didn't think was possible, horrible bat, multiple droped calls, gps won't lock to save my life, and phone will freeze from time to time, this is stock! I just don't see how its acceptable for a company to release a phone that barley works as phone, I downloaded infused 2.0.2 and it works SO much better but still bad bat, horrible gps, but in a matter of days deva can make a phone 100% better then the company?i don't get it, maybe they should stop making so many phones and make one that works right, I'm not a fan boy and won't be going back to apple because I hate them as a company, but when I spend money on a phone I would like it to work somewhat, if xda was not here I would not keep this phone..... Anyone else agree or disagree? Any ideas on how to get my phone to work like a phone should without having to update every 3 days, reset, is it ok that samsung is happy pumping phones out that look awesome and suck as mobile devices? I'm not flamming,i just want these phones to work better then apple so they can't sell phones, tv, computers ect....ok enough out of me.

my phone signal is ok, wifi signal sux, and yeah android is slow, it runs a lot of java which sux. apple does things different. I would like to see some bootloader and kernel development to run meego instead. I wish there was more app development for meego.
the gps can be improved with a couple settings but should be set that way stock. to be honest my captivate had better gps reception, even with its notorious gps issues, it could track well if you figured out what works. this gps is much more accurate and tracks better but it still has the Samsung quirks and poor reception under cover.
other than the gps my phone ran good stock, I just have a flashing addiction. but I will say it should be better.
Ha! I thought I was alone in actually wanting a modern meego phone...
I beg to differ with you, respectfully. Before I switched to android, I used an iphone 3g, so I have experience with both os's. Honestly, from my experience, the only advantage my sisters iphone 4 has over my Infuse is battery life. And even then, I still get a full day from my infuse, and I'm a heavy texter and data user, so that advantage is negligible...not to mention I can carry extra batteries if I don't have access to a charger for extended periods of time.
I experience no lag whatsoever, so ios doesn't seem any smoother to me. Also, I have my phone customized for maximum functionality for myself. That being said, no, my phone isn't as ready and easy for just anybody to pick up and use compared to an iphone, but the fact that I have it customized how I want it means that it's actually much more streamlined for me than I could make an iphone. To me, if I want the ios experience, I can open up my app drawer. When I had an iphone 3g, I hated only having a grid of apps as the whole gui. Yes, ios may be "smoother" (i disagree because I see no lag) and more intuitive to everybody, but my phone schools ios when it comes to ease of use for just me...and it's my phone, so why do I care if anybody else needs to use it?
Another huge advantage android had for me is widgets. They provide instant information that I would have top launch an app to see if I were using ios. Also, the notification bar is so great, and much better than those damn pop up notifications on ios.
As for service, everywhere I go has at least hspa, and a strong signal at that, so my infuse beats the iphone in that category. When I'm in an hspa+ area, my infuse blows my sisters iphone 4 out of the water in network speeds. In regards to gps, it's unfortunate that yours sucks, but my gps works great, locking within 5-10 seconds within at most 20m. I don't bother to use wifi much, but when I do I have no problems with signal strength.
Also, I love my 4.5 inch screen, and samoled+ technology. After my iphone 3g, I had a captivate, which was a godsend. At 4 inches, I loved the extra space, and the colors/detail of the screen crushed my 3g. Yes, the iphone 4 has amazing resolution, but with that small of a screen I feel it's more of a marketing gimmick. I'll be impressed when phones start having 4.3-4.5" 720p displays, and eventually 1080p in a few years. My infuse is plenty sharp enough, and the extra inch of real estate makes reading much easier on this than my sisters iphone 4. I don't care if I can see a tiny bit of pixelation in my letters, I would rather have them this way and much larger than tiny and super sharp. Also, the samoled+ makes colors unbelievably awesome, and the blacks are unmatched by any lcd hands down.
In regards to build quality, I couldn't be happier with my infuse. Even though it's all plastic besides the screen, the fit and finish of this phone is great. I feel the build quality is great, as my phone is rock solid, no creaking noises whatsoever. Yeah, the glass back of the iphone 4 looks great, but in my eyes isn't practical, as I would cover it up anyways with a case, and I would have two glass surfaces to worry about shattering instead of only one. Granted, metal would be nice, but with a plastic case, the infuse is nice and light for how huge it is, while still retaining the rock solid build quality I want in a phone.
Lastly, I love the openness of android. This dev community provides continual upgrades to my phone, when I was plenty happy with it on stock software. Also, the wide variety of certain apps makes android superior in my eyes. For example, I love having a wide variety of keyboards to use. Also, the numerous launchers available make it so I can have a ton of options when it comes to gui. Yes, ios may have an edge in gaming, but that's what my xbox is for, and I still have the essentials with android, such as angry birds, doodle jump, paper toss, plants vs zombies, etc...not to mention this huge screen makes gaming much easier. Custom themeing is also huge for me. My phone is one of a kind in the looks department...on ios you can pick a background...whoop-dee-doo, you're still stock with stock icons and the icons must fill from top left to bottom right, making every iphone look exactly the same. Also, I can download any file I want, hell, I can even torrent things right on my phone. I also don't have to put up with itunes and its ****ty syncing. I love being able to drag and drop files to and from my phone...much easier and faster. Plus, if I wanted to make playlists and sync stuff, I could use something like doubletwist or spotify. Yeah, syncing is simple for grandpa to understand, but its slow and useless compared to dragging and dropping.
This is just my opinion, I respect that you're entitled to your own, so please respect mine.

Hey man, its all good this its why I brought it up in here, but I must say you can do ask of that on iphone after jailbreak, and they have such a easy restore, I still can't believe they don't have a one touch restore over here yet, plus you have to root and do custom roms so basically jailbreak, and I have a hard time believing that your gps locks in 5mins, have never seen any infuse do that.

Glad we can have a civilized discussion in at least a few parts of the infuse forum, haha. If I had an iphone4, I probably would have jailbroken it and done all that good stuff, seeing as it actually has good specs to work with. I guess I just wasn't into it much when I had my 3g, and I felt that it was too much hassle for not that great of a phone specs-wise. To be perfectly honest, I wanted the iphone 4 when it came out, but my dad wouldn't go for that seeing as I was only a year into my 3g. However, he was all about me getting a new android and learning how to mod it, as he is a software programmer and all of the guys at his job were getting into android. I was originally going to buy a nexus one, but not being able to play with one in a store before I bought it pushed me to the captivate. Now that I'm on android, however, I don't think I'll go back to ios until they throw at least a 4.3" screen with some sort of amoled technology in an iphone, because my biggest beef with iphones is basically the screen. Right now, samsung has my complete loyalty, mostly because of their beautiful screens.

I agree with the OP.
After a few days of shell shock I have really learned to enjoy the Samsung Infuse 4g. But I would have returned it if I didn't have the Infused 2.0.2 mod. How do casual users actually use it out of the box with quirks like poor GPS, battery performance and occasional app issues? Beats me. Low expectations I guess?
The Infuse hardware is extremely nice but android reminds me of windows mobile on my ole Audiovox PPC-6700 smartphone from 5 years ago. You just gotta play with it to make it work...I guess that's the appeal.
I figure you are either in bed with Apple or Google (I shouldn't leave out Microsoft since my son says his Windows 7 phone is great), so if the new Apple phone comes out with a bigger screen...I'll probably switch back...just need something that works reliabily.
I absolutely love this.phone. I've had no problems what so ever. I def hated stock but only because it would randomly freeze. My sister has iPhone4 and she wishes she had my phone. This phone is great once you do a few tweaks but come on is a pc billy badass right out of the box? ( well sometimes) I just hate the iPhone/apple deal. This phone is America and iPhone is Communist Russia. Haha

This may seem very obvious, but adjusting the screen brightness will do wonders for your battery, make sure no apps are running in the background hogging up the battery. I also recommend not using a task
Killer or manager. Stock should work just fine.

My only beef with the android os is that trying to theme this compared to iOS is awful. There aren't any really good themes for android compared to iOS. Other than that I think android out of the box destroys iOS. I miss themes a little BUT I spent way to much time doing it. I like the fact I can watch HD YouTube videos without another app. I enjoy having flash on my device. I enjoy custom keyboards without an extra add on not to mention launchers. I LOVE my 4.5 inch screen. Anyway just wanted to say I love my infuse.

anyone come from a g2x?

I currently have a g2x and love it and a rare one with no problems and am wondering if the sensation is a better choice it seems development is a lot bigger here than in the g2x and I would love more customization with my device. Any advice and experiences with both devices would be great. Honest opinions only please lol no picking sides! Just pure differences
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1252138
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1258276
My wife has a G2X that we ordered on launch day. Within minutes she had her first reboot. After about 3 days, I had the go ahead to replace the phone for new unit...but after reading around, I saw that many people were having the same issues, so I never bothered.
I ended up rooting it and playing with the roms that are available until I found something solid...she hasn't had any problems since then and loves many of the features that her vibrant did not have.
I don't think either one is a bad device...its all about personal preference really. But when you ask a question like this on a phone hacking website...I don't think you are going to get a real honest "end user" response
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using xda premium
hes right, thats why i posted those threads...i never owned the g2x because of all its issues, but most of the sensation owners came from either the g2x or the HD2 (im a hd2 guy)
and the most common reasons were g2x had too many hardware issues, and the hd2 hardware was outdated.
either way, from my own research/experience, the sensation is so much better, and is only going to get better from now on, whereas the g2x is going to start getting stagnant from a dev perspective
I didn't have many problems with the g2x except for the screen bleed. Not really that much of a biggie since you can't see it unless you're in a pitch black room staring at a pitch black screen. Mine also never rebooted or had any of the other problems people were facing.
I swapped over to the S4g simply because I like phones, new phones that is.
Thanks guys I'm gonna try to see if someone is willito do an even swap for my great g2x hope I get a good sensation as my g2x is perfect minus the lack of developement
I've had HTCs for years. Against my better judgement, and having read a million reviews, I went for the G2.
One word; absolutely diabolical (yes, I know).
It lasted about 48 hours and was offloaded quicker than I could say "noooooooo".
Now I have the Sensation and it's soooo much better. I know some people don't use it, but I really love the Sense interface.
Never again will I stray. Honest.
I had a G2x and after the fourth one ... they offered me the Sensation.
WILL NEVER OWN AN LG PRODUCT AGAIN.
The G2X line was defective. HTC Sensation is by far a better phone.
Unlike a lot of others here, I'll give a differing opinion.
I came from the G2x as well, and I gotta say I really liked it.
Now, the reason I switched to the Sensation is because I'm the the type who always wants the latest/greatest. My Android phone history (in order): Nexus One, Galaxy S, Nexus S, G2X, Sensation.
I was pleasantly surprised by the G2X, it was my first LG smartphone and it was pretty nice coming from the Nexus S. Build quality, IMO, was better than the Nexus S, felt nice in the hand and premium quality. Speaker was nice and loud and, unlike most phones, was actually on the bottom of the phone so that when you placed it down it didn't muffle the speaker. The screen was decent, not as nice as the Samsung AMOLEDs but I'd say comparable to the Sensation (besides resolution).
I really liked the user made app that made the soft keys blink as a notification because those soft key LEDs were super bright.
Also, CM development was/is alive and well on the G2X and I loved having CM on that phone (or any phone for that matter).
So, no I didn't get a lot of the problems other people have had with the G2x (e.g. the crashing, rebooting, etc.).
I come from the G2x and even though I really liked it, I think that the Sensation is a superior phone.
Love is a very strong word so I won't say that but I Really Really REALLY like the Sensation much more over the G2x may be because I just really enjoy Sense.
I feels production quality were the G2x I always felt it was pre production.
So if I had to recommend one of the two it would definitely be the Sensation.

Why is the sensation popular?

What are your thoughts and opinions? Also, why do you like the phone?
Is like to ask the reason you bought an iphone in the iphone section.. Kinda useless
I think sensation is popular because is, so far in commerce, the most powerful htc phone, cool design and great community..
Cause it rocks ur mutha fukn sox off! LOL im tmobile so i cant have an iphone. plus its supposed to be htc flagship, or it was. s'all good.
edit: be sure to say thanks if this actually helped anyone in the entire, whole worldz at all....
-Was HTC's flagship for most of 2011
-beautiful design
-large community
-excellent specs
-excellent weight and size
etc...
It was, imo, the best overall phone of 2011 especially if your take its design into the equation. HTC also has a huge following of loyal fans, myself included.

Because sensation gives use use a feel of sensation. lol. i choose Sensation over SGS2 due to aesthetic designs. :/
while the sensation is a bit slower than the gs2, I still went with it due to the build quality. I prefer the overall feel of the sensation over the gs2. I recently had a chance to get the Amaze (for a trade) but decided to stick with the sensation, also because of the feel and the community and rom support (amaze is still stuck with sense 3.0/3.5 and rarely any aosp)
It's a solid phone with battery life being it's only big weakness, and that one was at least mostly solved by this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1226016
I chose it for the sexy design, solid build quality, its screen resolution (as great as SAMOLED is, I can't go with another HDPI phone, had to do qHD.. plus, SLCD isn't that bad, better than TFT), and its awesome development community. I can't buy a phone without a great dev community.
It is simply because it was the most widely available, top of the line HTC phone for most of 2011, world-wide. You could get this phone anywhere.
Edit: as for my opinon of the phone.
It's good. Not great.
Wi-Fi is a real pain on this phone. Literally just holding this phone in landscape mode will weaken your already weak wi-fi signal. Cases also hurt your wi-fi signal.
Also comes preloaded with sense, which I hate.
Other than that the phone is awesome. Great speed, decent battery life, great camera, and great community.
Oh and the speaker volume sucks until fix has been applied.
