[Q] Kies wont connect to phone after it updated - Captivate General

Ok my Kies software said it had an update so I downloaded it and now it wont connect to my Captivate. Kies is version 1.5.3.10103_100. It just sits on connecting to device but wont connect?? Do I need to redownload the USB drivers. Windows wants to open the device so did I break something with the download. My phone is not rooted or anything yet.

Mine did the same this morning. Just uninstall kies and reinstall using the original exe you had installed. Worked for me. Just so I am clear, I am talking about kies, not kies mini.

Crap is it posted somewhere here as I dont think I have the old Kies software.

It's not the drivers. I had the same issue. The phone was still connecting to the pc. I could see it and go into it, but kies was not connecting to it. Removing kies and reinstalling the original fixed it for me.
I have it and will upload it, not sure how long it will take.

Yeah this happened to meer also. And I had to go back to the original before the update. They might do froyo through keis, but they messed it up with the update. How lame its that?!

[Q] Firmware Update Problem and Kies Problem

Two problems in one email... Let me say ahead of time I appreciate any help and have looked for solutions before posting
1) Captivate always gives error contacting AT&T server when trying to check for firmware update. I am still on a stock phone with no root. I was able to use this function to upgrade from whatever the phone had when shipped to JH7. Since then always get this error.. Help would be appreciated.
2) Kies program connection. Because I could not check for firmware updates I decided to try Kies. I can not connect except for when I choose Mass Storage mode on my phone's usb and then the Kies software says to choose PC Studio mode. Only Kies mode on my phone is Firmware Update mode. Help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Steve
Try using Kies Mini instead of that version, Mini is just for firmware upgrading.
Also when you use it set your phone to usb debugging mode and ask on connection in the application settings.
Jh7 its the latest update. There's no new froyo out yet.

Thanks for the replies..
I did the debug usb and Kies told me it can not connect to a device with usb debugging on .. again told me to turn on Kies (PC Studio) but I don't have that option on my phone...
Uninstall your Kies software, if your wanting to update to JF7 from JH6
you install this software (Kies Mini- for firmware upgrades only)
Google "Kies mini Samsung captivate".
Click the first link.
i'd post a link but im not permitted to considering I only have 1 post.
MAKE sure you have settings>applications>usb settings>ask on connection
AND
settings>applications>developement>USB debugging enabled.
1) I had this same problem after the JH7 update via OTA. I used the "Software Update" selection and got the proper update. Phone said it updated correctly. After that, whenever I tried to check for update again, it failed to connect to the server. I had some other issues as well (not being able to add a google account). I took it to AT&T but they didnt know how to fix it. I ended up flashing back to stock using odin-one-click and updated it again to JH7. After that, everything worked ok. Seems like during your update, something didnt install right although it told you it did.
2) Make sure you are in the TouchWiz launcher and not any other launchers like LauncherPro. Also, make sure you are on the home screen of the TouchWiz. The only way I can get Kies to recognize my phone is to change the USB settings to Kies (not Ask on connection). 1.5.3.10093_82 is the version of Kies I am using. If you update it to the latest version (1.5.4.10093_100), then it will no longer recognize the samsung captivate at all.
i finally got my captivate to connect to kies mini using the .dll patch from another post and then moved back to the TwLauncher and selected Kies(firmware upgrade).
now its telling me in kies that it can not connect to the model information server
if i cant connect to kies then how will i ever be able to update to froyo?
help will be appreciated.

Don't panic. That happens alot probably because people are slamming the servers looking for an update. Try it on an off time and see if it connects.

Why does Kies always say there are corrupt files when I run it?

I just installed Kies 2.0 from here: http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/m...softwaremanual.do?page=MOBILE.SOFTWARE.MANUAL
And whenever I try to run it I get an error saying the files are corrupt and if it keeps happening then I should reinstall it. I've reinstalled it 3 times, restarting my computer each time and I keep getting that exact same error.
After Googling it a little, a lot of people seem to be having problems with it on Windows 7 64 bit (which is what I'm using) but at the bottom of the page I linked it says it is compatible with it...
Because Kies is not compatible with out devices ATm
Then how come in the dev section all of the odin flash to stock posts say that the easiest way to install drivers for the phone is with Kies?
Is there another way I can install the drivers for it?
it Kies installed on your computer. drivers have been installed. its another thing that kies does not work. but if kies it self installed on your computer then the drivers have been installed.

It's still not working for me. I installed the one linked to from that topic and I get the exact same results.
However, if I go to the Devices and Printers window in Windows 7 when I have my phone in either Kies or Download mode, it shows a yellow triangle next to my phone. When I try to troubleshoot it, it says that drivers aren't installed and it can't find any.
I did that with Kies installed but it still says it can't find any drivers.

[Q] Infuse will not connect with USB, WHY?

I have tried Kies, I have tried the drivers from Samsung, Nothing.
Everytime I plug in the phone I get an error.
I select "connect USB storage" on the phone and IT says it is connected but the PC will not recognize at all. Sometimes PC gives me an error about how the device is not recognized.
What the hell is going on? I tried two different phones and get the same problems. This phone is crap with USB functionality and is really frustrating.
What can be done?
Try samba file sharing in the android market if you are using a rooted device. If not on a rooted device, try ES file explorer

Hi,
I should add that the device is factory stock!
No ROMs, no hacks, no root (actually that is why I wanted to connect, to root).
I should also add that all other devices connect fine, so it isn't the port.
I tried the error check thing in Kies and it says reinstalling drivers etc. It does that then comes up with a message " ERROR Reconnect the device in Samsung Kies (PC Studio) mode. Current connection mode not supported by Kies.
I an ready to go back to iPhone, at least that "just works". Arrrgh.

I tried that. Installed drivers from here, tried from Kies, all no good.
Sometime I might get it to see the phone as a drive, then I try it a different day and it is no good again, it "forgets". It is really flakey. I also tried two different cables, same result. If I reboot the computer I may get a connection once (I used this opportunity to root). If I disconnect and reconnect for whatever reason it either gives me an error or doesn't see the phone. Don't get it.
I am using Win7.

Besides samsung kies, you should also uninstall and reinstall the correct drivers from the samsung website. Also sometimes something as simple as getting a new usb cable will fix this probem. Sounds kinda dumb but ive had samsung phones that work with one cable and are not recognized by another.

I've had that cable problem too, it was due to a cheapo "charge only" USB cable that came with a free charger... lesson learned!
[Solved] Odin doesn't detect your phone. Drivers error. Blah Blah...
Folks!
Your phone BRICKED???
ODIN Doesn't detect your phone???
Shows Driver Error Code 37???
Stuck in bootloop???
Well Well!
Everything is fine.
Don't just try all the solutions online.
The problem is installation of samsung drivers over and over again is replacing the existing drivers instead of wiping them out. So, the drivers have become incompatible with your device and as well as ODIN.
The solution is very simple.
Just reinstall your operating system of pc, install drivers and then You will definitely find what the magic with the drivers.
Hope you found it helpful...

First uninstall and reinstall the drivers for your phone. Get them from Samsung site just to be safe. also try redownloading odin from a different website, could be a bad download. and 'm assuming you have a good USB cable and good USB Ports.
also what model phone are you using? that's in settings--about device--model number

Hi, I'm kinda having the same problem the original poster is having.
My problem is, my windows 7 computers do not see the phone at all, no matter which cable/USB port I use. No beep, no trying to install drivers, no nothing. I'm assuming that unless windows sees the device to begin with... I won't be able to use kies or Odin or heimdall or adb or anything right?

ok, have you checked device manager to see if the phone shows up there? and you're right if it isn't being detected than you can't use it basically lol. I know sucks.
honestly, download the drivers manually and install them. If you're not sure how to check device manager or find the drivers google is you're friend :good: hope you get it working!

Drago, thanks for trying to help me, can't tell you how much I appreciate it bro. Now when it comes to windows, I'm no noob, I actually own a small business going out to people's houses and fixing their computer/WiFi/printer problems. So device manager, yeah I tried "scanning for new hardware" tried and tried, checked and checked, restarted, tried safe mode, tried using different administrator account, nothing. That's when I got this gut sinking feeling, what if something is wrong with the USB port on the phone.
It's a SM-S820L, galaxy core prime. No sound when I plug it in, nothing shows up in 'my computer', no tuh noon sound, and I remember back when the phone was working like normal, I tried to get a picture or two off of it by plugging it in while it was on, I remember it showed up in windows no problem, even without the drivers from Samsung installed. Now nothing happens, even though it says download mode.
I still need your help Drago, don't forget about me

alright well you have one of 3 issues then honestly.
1. phone USB port like you said
2. the PC/laptop USB or..
3.cable or driver issues.
make sure your completly uninstall the phones drivers in device manager while the phone is plugged into the PC. next unplug the phone, restart, reinstall actuall samsung drivers, than try pluggin in again. use a known working USB port also.
sorry I can't give you an answer that's the best I can think of, let me know how it goes!

You can try redownloading Odin and also running Odin as an administrator, that's been the case one in a while. lastly uninstall and reinstalling drivers could help. If this does'nt do it sorry, I'm all out of ideas.
I have same problem with Odin v4.42 and work with Odin3_v3.04,try different version of Odin.
