PowerAmp Problem??? - EVO 4G Themes and Apps

This is a great player but I wish it had a better way to organize play lists other then going through the native android system. I am having a problem with playing back music. When I get songs with a good bit of bass in them I get some distortion. I do not get the same when I use the native player or winamp. It happens with or without the EQ turned on but less with the EQ turned off. Anybody have any ideas why this would be. Maybe different audio codecs???
The distortion sounds like sssttt every time the bass would hit.
P.S. - I am running poweramp on the HTC EVO and these are unmodified Mp3 files I am running.

change the pre-amp

tried that but have the same problem...that just seems to minimize the problem but it is still there.

[Q] possible to increase volume?

hey guys. i like watching movies and shows on the Xoom. but i've found that unless i'm using headphones, the volume leaves much to be desired for the most part. this doesn't happen when watching youtube videos or listening to music. but anything played through rockplayer or moboplayer (i.e. avis, mp4s, etc) leaves me wanting more volume.
is there a way to increase the volume on the Xoom like there is for the Evo and other android devices through qpst or other apps?
thanks
Try Volume+. It's what I am using.
Just installed Volume+ but won't have a chance to play with it until later. What settings do you use?
You can also use Equalizer from Smart Android Apps. I use this for my general music listening and it automatically adjusts the EQ based on the type of music I am listening to. What you can also do is manually adjust the EQ settings and boost the volume quite a bit. You do have to be careful though as you can easily distort the sound if you boost it too much. The paid version gives you the ability to create and edit the EQ presets and added widget support. Otherwise the free version works great and is pretty feature packed.
I looked through the market for "Volume+" and could not find it. Can you provide a link?

Here it is:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.TEST.android.lvh&feature=search_result
My settings on this are:
Speaker Volume Level +4
Headset Volume Level +3
Bluetooth Volume Level +4
I'm sure I could go higher, but there's no need for me to. I've not changed the EQ settings, but it allows you to do that as well. I've used PowerAmp and love it, because of its EQ function. But with this Volume+ I've been using the stock music player and am quite happy. And this solved the low volume issue I was having with my Jawbone Jambox bluetooth speaker.

[Q] A Good Music Player, with Good Equalizer?

I am looking for a music player with a good graphical equalizer. I have yet to find one that works without flaws...
(Running MIUI ROM on an Inspire 4G)
MIUI stock music player:
Sounds good, equalizer is satisfactory, but you can't tell it what folder to pull music from. It just reads the whole phone. It has a setting that you specify minimum file size for, but that's crap. Should be able to just tell it where to find music and only load that music... It also skips/cuts off etc A LOT!
PlayerPro:
This player has a really crappy equalizer. The only positive I can think of about this app is the ability to use SRS enhancement in HTC phones that have it. This one skips/cuts out music more than any other app I have tried. No matter what happens, screen turns off, like 5-20 rapid cutouts. Quality of playback is poor. Accessing certain features are a pain and needs to be able to be accessed from Menu button while in the player, not just the main screen. But the cutouts for anything happening to the phone, browsing for the next song, volume up/down. Minimizing, screen on off. Huge/a lot of cutouts in playback.
PowerAMP:
This was probably one of the better apps. Great equalizer, very direct navigation to whatever you need. But this player also suffers from the cutouts when locking/unlocking or interacting with the phone. This app does have that Buffer setting, but even set to huge (725ms) it still suffers from these cutouts. And the update that came out today.. well that just screwed it up even more...
UberMusic:
Smooth, looks pretty, can tell it's a complete rip from Zune so I know how to navigate it at least. Cutouts while navigating the phone weren't nearly as bad, or didn't happen. The problem with this app is that it doens't have an equalizer. I googled, and found out that Fede (many may know him from that scam app LPP) promised to implement an equalizer. That same dev also promised a re-write of LPP be the end of 2010 and look where LPP is at.. completely abandoned for this music app. With that history I won't buy his music app until the equalizer is implemented. But based on what he's shown with LPP I don't see that happening for 932750923 years.
WinAmp:
Loved it on my computers since middle school... But for the phone, the cut-outs are almost as bad as PlayerPro, and it also has a pretty crappy equalizer.
Anybody else know of a good/smooth music app, with no cutouts in music playback and a good equalizer?
Thanks!
What do you mean by cut out, I use pamp and really smooth no problem whatsoever

Music playback like stops/freezes whenever the screen turns off, or on, or when I unlock, or when I hit menu, or when I hit any button on the phone. If I OPEN something, like browser, it chops like crazy.
It's Depend on your phone & rom. I normally use power amp & never have the problems you mentioned. It never cut out except when receiving incoming sms or call receieved.

Try double twist. If you like it i'd highly advise buying to unlock all features.

Same problem with double-twist. Didn't even bother to check for an equalizer...
I guess the problem is with MIUI. Figured after years they'd at least have it compatible with music players that millions of people use..
Never have problems with PowerAmp here, either. Could the cutouts maybe be an issue outside of PowerAmp, like your memory card perhaps, considering that it looks like every app you use has them?
Probably a Rom issue, I have no such issues with either playerpro or poweramp

I had a similar problem a few phones back with HTC Hero and Desire. I had it underclocked on screen-off and an app-killer killing on screen off/memory killer. Both caused the music to "jump around" and/or kill the music. Underclocking sounds the more obvious issue here.
If not using either, make sure your SD card is class 4 or higher.
Poweramp had never failed me before, but now using google music on CM7 with DSP manager for the GMusic streaming...
Swyped from the past.
Discard this..
Google Music 4.0 with DSP Manager
I am using PowerAmp for an entire year and dont remember having a single cutout. You probably have a problem in your rom.
Yea I believe it might be a ROM issue, others in the ROM thread confirmed they also have this problem. I'm using the SD card that came with the phone, not sure what class it is...
Thanks for the tips!
ive tried all of the apps you mentioned except poweramp and none of them had "cutouts"

Atrix 2 Music Player Sound Quality Improvement?

Is there any way to improve the sound quality, its not horrible but Im wondering if it is, on here Ive seen something like this for the galaxy S2
"samsung-galaxy-s2-sii-via-dsp-manager-cyanogenmod-7-music-player" guess you all will have to google it without the quotes because I cant post links right now since Im new, but it should be the first link that comes up.
Do I need to have CyanogenMod installed (Which we cant right now of course) to use this or is it just the player ripped from there and I can install like a regular rooted app
If I'm not mistaken it should just be a simple apk. You can dump it in your system apps folder or install it normally. Those apps.are just heavily skinned and tweaked to work with a broader spectrum of devices. If.you get the music player can u upload it here as well?
Sent from my MB865 using XDA App
Yeah, go to settings/audio effects and you can set two different profiles, one for the phone speaker and one for the headphone port, check it out.
Sent from my MB865 using XDA App
By default the music player has a bunch of horrible sound effects enabled. Turn them off and I think you'll find it's much better.
settings - audio effects
thanx for the input I went through and compared it with the stock and poweramp and im not noticing an extreme improvement in the sound to justify removing the stock music app Ill just stick with poweramp and i did turn off the audio effects and it does sound much better too
Really the music app im referring to isnt that great either to me its simple which is ok but I like the functionality for poweramp better ie.. player screen available when locked etc... but Ill try to remember to post a link up once Im back on my comp but if you dont want to wait for me to post the app up you can google what Ive got in quotes and it should be the first link
PA is my music player of choice too.

Best Music Player (IMO)

Just a heads up! I found a really sweet music player that plays any file music file type that I throw at it! It's called DeaDBeef Player. Get it here. You'll also have to install the free plugins pack, which is here. I do a lot with music and what not, and this is the only player that I found that will play wavs; including 24 bit wavs! It's a little ugly, but VERY functional--I may try to theme it.
Does it have lockscreen controls?

I dunno about lockscreen controls--I don't use 'em--but I know it has a 10-band EQ with a preamp control. Also, the free version has no limited functionality, just that it has ads and the pro does not.
Can you defeat the equalizer/tone controls? (Not just "zero" them, but remove them entirely from the path)

I'm not sure I understand what you're asking, but here's what you get in the EQ: 10 bands and 1 preamp (each with their own slider), levels from -20db - +20db, on and off button, presets button, and an "all zero" button. Hopefully that answered your question.
I believe Jeff is asking if you can "bypass" the software EQ and the associated sound degradation that a software EQ introduces. Please correct me if I'm wrong Jeff.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda app-developers app
That's correct. The better your headphones/IEMs get, the more you hear the kind of distortion introduced by most EQ software.
It looks like it has an "on/off" for the EQ which should hopefully pull it out of the signal path.
Sorry guys! For some reason I didn't get any new post notifications by email... but yeah, the on/off button acts as the "defeat" in regards to EQ. I also found out that this is using the same audio engine as the Linux version (link).
Says the Android version is very different but than try for sharing I will try it out
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
I tried it out and it doesn't have the lock screen or a status bar control. Sorry, gotta find something else.
Yeah... it's more for audiophiles than your average mp3 user. It will play anything...

Best Bluetooth audio mod?

So I use my phone in my car for Pandora and Google music. It sounds good stock but I was looking for any additional mods to play with it. Not sure if the audio mods out there affect Bluetooth or not. Any suggestions?

FX version 2.2.0.5 / XHiFi version 2.0.0.8
Install them both just like normals apps
They will ask you to install drivers
for FX click CortexA15/Neon
XHiFi Cortex/Neon
and Reboot
Once you are done with a reboot, go to system > sound > music effects > V4A FX > Profit.
Both of them can run together simultaneously.

Thanks a lot! Got it running. But are you sure it works with Google Music and Pandora? I'm playing music in my car and switching between a lot of settings in the FX app and nothing is changing. Not sure if I'm missing something or what.

It wasn't working with Pandora for me as well, but one day after cache/dalvik or might have been dirty flash since it removes files.
Play around with it for a bit.
It should work with every audio output.
okay good deal. Just curious, why do you have master power off? Doesn't that need to be on for it work?

Yes you have to turn on master power or nothing will work. If you are in compatible mode with both apps you want to select another option in your sound settings, I use the standard FX. Also don't be concerned it the driver status screen shows the app isn't working, it's a problem with the status screen. You should be able to hear a major difference by switching the master power off and then back on. You will hear a difference when you switch the other settings but some will be fairly subtle.
Yeah I got it working, but I only hear a difference with my bluetooth headphones. A big difference actually. In my car, I'm not getting the differences. I'm thinking because my Pioneer head unit. It has its built in own EQ curve settings that I can change but I don't think I can turn it off. Not sure if that's whats causing the issue or not. But I did notice it does make it a little too "bassy". I'm sure that can be adjusted though. I just wish I could get it to work in my car because that's where I really want it.

If you are still having trouble with Pandora, here's the solution
using root explorer or similar app, edit build.prop > lpa.decode=true to lpa.decode=false > reboot.
