Question on third party app websites

I understand that some forums don't support cracked or free apps. I have read a few threads and I'm not sure if this one does or not.... What site do you use for third party apps? Currently all I know about is 4shared, and a lot of the search results have nothing to do with android. So I'm wondering if you know any other sites that work well, or maybe even better. Once again if you don't support this, I'm sorry and it will be the last time I'd post anything along these lines.
Obviously xda does not support illegally cracked apps, meaning offering paid apps for free. You are however free to share free applications ;-).
Telling you where to find sites with cracked apps would also not be allowed on xda.

[POLL] How Many Apps Have You Purchased on Your Android Device?

I'm an app junkie. Free apps, paid apps, it doesn't matter. I love apps. I love useful apps, fun apps, games and books. I've downloaded and installed thousands upon thousands of apps starting from my G1 through my MT3G, Nexus One and now MT4G and many others in between. I've also purchased a whole lot of apps. Some simply to supports devs who are bettering the community. Others because I need them for daily use. I've purchased a ridiculous number of games and apps to amuse myself and my kids. So how many apps have you purchased? Do you prefer to use free apps? Vote above an leave a comment with your number.

Same here...love apps and I do what I can to support the devs. Going into the Market is like my birthday, every day.
If I like an app payed or not doesn't matter. But I usually try the free version first.
Always like to contribute to good apps and one i THINK i will use.
I don't really purchase apps, mostly all my apps are free.
I enjoy apps. I prefer the very useful ones like UltimateJuice (must have)... Root Explorer, Titanium Backup and ROM Manager (if it worked on my Epic, so they say)
I also love trying out different apps. Since Christmas I've bought crap for almost $200. If I like an app I'll always try to support the developer by buying the paid version.

I'm strict on apps, I only have like 15.
Sent from my Incredible with the XDA Premium App.
I can hold tons of apps on a 4GB SD Card.
I have probably spent 1000 bux or more on apps and use maybe 1/4 of them I need to slow down think maybe I have an adiction lol

I'm definitely for buying apps just to support the developers and to make developing for android a nice option for would-be developers.
Not that many apps purchased but I'm hitting the 40 range. Will still pay for more especially the tegra games once I get my hands on the Xoom wifi.
Seriously I don't get why people don't spend a little more on apps. An app costs like a cup of coffee. Every app you pay for, just cut back on a cuppa.
Of course I only spend on stuff I really use, at least for a couple of weeks.

Holy moly that's alot of apps!
Me on the other hand, I have about 100 apps of which about a dozen are purchased, not because I'm a sting or anything but why should I pay for them when I can get someone else to pay for them (tapping on ads in the app)
Just out of interest though, when I do click on an ad, how much goes to the dev on average?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I am not buying any apps, because market accepts creditcard only. Bad luck for developers.

Just counted via my apps list in the market and I got all the way up to 31. This also includes live wallpapers (I think I paid for 3 or 4 even though I never use them for more than a day at a time) and a handful of widgets. Way more than I thought though. Those are just the paid apps, not free.
The Android Market is growing every they with wonderful apps to choose from.

Interesting poll. Also, disappointing results - i cant believe 30% have only purchased 1-3 apps. As a development studio it saddens us that people with ultra-expensive smartphones are too miserly to spend a few bucks on really cool apps with interesting functionality.
Why don't you add the option 'None', because I'm so sure there are a lot of people who want a different payment method than creditcard.
6 - but this is mainly caused by the fact that I still use old G1 phone. I don't need most of paid utilities - free ones are enough. But I think I would buy a LOT of games if they would work on my device :-D
Also I like to pay for someone's work even if I don't have to. For example Star Traders RPG Elite gives you very little more than free version, but I have bought it to support its author
I paid for so many I can't remember >.<

[Q] How much money to make an application on Android?

I'm obviously new here but have been following multiple threads for a good while. I am thinking of making an app on android just for the experience. My past history was a web-mastering class that used html and various programs such as dream weaver and photoshop.
I'm thinking of getting a few books that explain how to code and create apps. If anyone has good resources they would like to suggest, it would be much appreciated. Or perhaps I need to take a couple classes at my university before coding?
My main question is, How much does it cost to create an app yourself. I've looked it up and I see people saying numbers like 5 to 10 thousand!? That sounds ridiculous. How much is it if I make it completely myself. No hired help? Is that possible?
It is possible, but difficult. And your app will end up buggy and poor quality most likely. Your biggest problem would be support for the app especially if it's a social one.
Build something that works straight out the box

I'm thinking something along the lines of gaming. Or maybe just start with a simple app that feeds info from a site I create. Right now I just want to get the gist of it. With enough practice, would it still be poor quality by making it myself? and How much would this cost? Just the money to buy the programs I'm guessing?
I am an active android developer. I have 4 apps in the market, all of them free. I have just 1 app with advertisement, I wait to get more install for my other 3 apps.
I make $10-20 daily from my 1 app that has ads (Monthly around $300-400).
How long did it take to make a single app ? Just 2 days
How much did it cost ? $0
For programs you need Eclipse + Android SDK, which costs $0 , both open source.
Poor quality ? No way, you are not going to write 10s of thousands codes here ? Scope is small, it will be less buggy.
Its all about an app that attracts user, you dont have to build new angry birds.
Thanks for the info moribitotech. btw, nice website. I'll give your apps a visit too
Let me know how it goes,I could even test it for you.
Good luck.

What's the deal with Go Launcher? Malicious?

Over the past week I've seen people on here and people on other sites say that Go Launcher has malicious code in it and that it steals your data to sell. Me and my mum have both been using it for about a year now. Why would Google let it stay in the market and how could it be one of the most popular launchers if it's malicous?
Is there really something wrong with it?
No, it just started embracing ads since it's free :\
Mostly go contacts
Sent from my SGH-T989 with Cyanogenmod 9 Nightly Power.
No..
But they added ads which might be dangerous for your phone.
I haven't noticed any ads.... Where exactly have they placed them?
What about this AppCenter and GameZone they added?!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it's specific third-party themes that are including ads, not Go Launcher itself.

That would make more sense.
What is it with everyone hating on ads! I mean seriously! If you hate ads or think they are dangerous which they are not, then be willing purchase an app...which 99% of you will not obviously...that's why ads exist. Whats the difference between an ad on a website and an app? Nothing. Both come from the same place.
Oh no an ad! How dare they try to earn from a free app!

^^ They Have ADS TOO!!
jp idk if they do or not but it seems funny.
Just be thankful you have little square ads you can ignore and not 30 sec videos with no skip button after 5 secs like youtube and draw w/friends.
Those things have a way to really get me mad.
Ads are ok. Im happy that push ads are going to be extinct though. Banner ads don't really bother me.

I stopped using Go Launcher because it was running services for apps/Go Plugins I didn't install. That was the final straw, really. I found that it became really bloated and overly complex. The Go Launcher team are introducing too many functions IMHO and not focusing on what they do best: making an excellent, flexible launcher. I do miss it in some ways. You won't find as much flexibility for free...
These kinda threads always make me laugh. If you want privacy, lock yourself in your house and never go outside, never go online, never use your phone, send a "trusted" person to buy your groceries.
What are they gonna do? Sneak in, steal the hot pics your gf sent you on whatsapp? Attempt a home invasion and rob you of your playboys? Or heaven forbid, forward the hot pics your mistress sent to your mom and your wife/gf.
So what if they serve ads? Dont like it, use another app. These developers need to earn a living too, they use a model that provides you with FREE software for your phone, to use at your discretion. Go Launcher is by far the best launcher out there, it kicks the pants off anything that comes at a price too. If you dont like ads, dont use themes which push ads. Its that simple. Or use an app like adfree
Threads like this hurt the OSS/FS community. The privacy issue is actually pretty moot since most users sign up for forums and trial software and gladly hand over personal information. If you silly enough to keep your bank account details on your phone (which you going to hand out via using your credit/debit card at your local convience store anyway, where for all you know al queida has planted sleeper agents) then you deserve to have your wife see what you and your mistress get up to
Go launcher is the best launcher, if there are ads, please support the developer. Tell me one thing that you could do with any other launcher that you cant with go. This ad method is least intrusive, must be encouraged as means for developers to permit core functionalities free
The ads are from themes not from go launcher..

Yeah, exactly, the crappy notification spam comes from themes via AirPush. Nice to see some antimalware apps start detecting this crap. I have nothing against banners, spamming notification bar is completely different though. On the Go apps note, Go Keyboard free has exactly this kind of annoying spam.

[DISCUSSION]Samsung App Store

First off, I looked for a thread like this but only found threads mentioning specific games from the Sammy app store (which I was surprised about).
So, this thread is for any discussion related by the Samsung App Store.
So things like - new apps that become available for free or a much cheaper price (that way, we all benefit from it ), what games/apps you'd like to see on there (especially for free. After all, we're all about sharing), whether you'd like to see other manufacturers take the same initiative etc.
I'll kick-start this discussion by saying that the best app I've got from there recently was NFS Hot Pursuit for free.
Obviously it's a great game with great graphics to boot, but the oy downside was how easy the game was. But I guess I can't moan too much, considering it was free
Advice to app developers: if you develop something, put it on the Samsung App Store too.
Due to the huge number of apps on the Play Store, people tend to find apps more easily on the Samsung App Store.. so you tend to get more downloads there.
That's a great idea actually.
I'm in the early stages of learning how to make apps and I'll definitely bare that in mind when it's my time to shine

I personally don't like the app, however I do agree with the ease of finding things on it.

Yes it does. It contains a wide range of apps and games covering different genres.
Just a smaller version of the Google Play Store.

What would you like to see on the Sammy app store?
One game I think would be great would be Max Payne Mobile. It was a brilliant addition to Android as a whole and I think it would be great to see it on here.
App wise, I'm not too sure at the moment but I think there should be a greater choice in general though.

the sammy app store is quite empty now.. hoping that devs would help fill up the spaces in sammy app store and take it as an extra income because more people can discover ur apps and app searching in the samsung app store is much better.
I want Speaktoit Assistant and Bad Piggies

I agree...
Last I had used the Samsung App Store was back in April...
There were just a bunch of games and fart apps (pointless apps with no purpose)...
And even the games were trial versions...
Extremely small selection + poor quality = bad experience
