[APP] Navigon MobileNavigator for Android - Nexus One Themes and Apps

I know there are a few Navigon threads but they are for other phones than the Nexus and quite old. The Navigon site says there is a try and buy, but it doesn't show on the market. Not sure if it's because I am rooted. Whatever, I have bought the app anyway because I have had good experiences with the Navigon units here in the states in the past.
So far the app has installed and when running it for the first time, Navigon says it will download about 2gb's of data (thank god I just bought a 16gb microSD lol). Also it is recommended that the phone be in a charger and connected to a wlan so a constant connection can be held to download such a large file. Also danger of being throttled lol by tmo lol...but thats another thread altogether.
So far so good downloading but it's 15% done with 36 min to go on the download. Thank goodness my boss just installed a wireless router in the office!
I'll update with any new news on the product once downloaded.

Went home for lunch and used Navigon for the first time. Out of the box, the voice prompts are WAY to low. I could hardly hear anything. I maxed out the app volume and no change. I then went to the sound settings and maxed out everything, prior, I had my notifications tone set pretty low, but once I maxed the notification sound, the Navigon came to life!! Kinda silly IMO. Not media but notification volume!?
Next I figured I turn on my bluetooth and connect to my blueant S4. I have the 1.5 software (downloading the 1.6 update now). And the Navigon does route to the S4 but also the handset itself! I'll update if the blueant update fixes that or not.
Now using it as a plain jane navigator, I think is on par with the Navigon products I have used in the past. It works pretty well, but the newer roads have not been updated as of yet, but google maps have the updated/newer roads. I am in San Antonio, about a half hour from the downtown area so there is a lot of new roads being built.
Conclusion:
The short and dirty of it is that the Navigon is pretty steep in price (~$39.98USD) for the first two weeks and then increases in price to a whopping (~$59.98USD). Is it worth it? I'd say try co-pilot first because 1. it's cheaper even with the traffic add-on and 2. You can always try Navigon after you decide if co-pilot doesn't jive with what you want to do.
The only other plus is that if you cannot get a cell signal to run the navigation (a la google nav), you can use the downloaded 2gb file as a guide and the app will reconnect once it receives a signal.

how does it handle music apps. I mean if you have music playing on, does it pause the music (or reduce music volume) during voice guidance?

Haven't tested that part out yet. Will report back once I do. Thanks for reminding me, even though I do not really use the music player in the car all that much.

Music a no-go...
...when used with Navigon. Both are on at the same time and no volume lowering is done on the music side when the prompts are spoken.

Hi, I was wondering if you got a fix for this or not? I'm getting the same problem with my Desire HD - I'm not sure if the problem is the phone, the S4, or Navigon. The S4 came with 1.6 firmware so there's nothing to upgrade to. I've emailed both Blueant and Navigon support, but my 24 hour trial period is up, so I've uninstalled for now.
Hope you can help! Thanks.

No same issue when updated to 1.6 on the blueant. Currently Navigon is my backup navi.

Thanks. I emailed Navigon, who said they don't support A "Bluetooth audio only" option, but CoPilot handles the audio perfectly. Unfortunately it doesn't seem nearly as good at finding routes.
Do you know if this is this specific to the S4?

Not 100% but I found that the Navigon uses the same tones from the notification settings. Meaning one needs to increase the volume on the notification settings to hear the voice prompts rather than media, which I think would best fit. If they did that, the navigon software may work via bt audio, but I am no coder, but just speculating.
I am now using this as my backup navi because in some areas in TX, there are very spotty territories for 3g even edge coverage for tmobile usa, so having this is a plus in my opinion, but was it worth the hefty pricetag? I have to say no if you are looking for this as a primary navi software. I would rather pay some additional cash for a dedicated gps unit.
BUT, using this had me thinking back to my Sony Ericsson days where I used a gps puck to use as a gps navi. amAzegps.com First off its friggin free lol, worldwide coverage, multilanguage support and pretty accurate for a free gps. I haven't used this in a few years but I am glad it is still around. It is a nice proggy. I would suggest all who cannot use google or want to try an alternate navi program.

Thanks, that's interesting. I noticed that CoPilot's changelog specifically listed fixes for BT handsfree, so I guess they are more interested in compatibility with different BT devices. I can understand it's hard for Navigon to ensure compatibility with every bit of hardware, but this particular problem does seem to be due the way they stream the sound to the BT device, so must be fixable.
I'm using CoPilot now, and it works well enough, but if I choose to go a different route to the one suggested, rather than calculating a new route, it keeps telling me to do a U-turn around and go back. Still, I don't use the satnav every day, so it's probably good enough for what I need.

Just got an update on the Navigon. Not sure what the update was. No changelog I can find and I could not find it in the market anymore for some reason.
On vacation right now attending my brothers wedding out of state. So I'll report back if there were any changes.
Anyone else?

Unfortunately I gave up and switched to CoPilot, but I did learn here that the CarUI app on the market has a fix for the bluetooth issue, if you start MobileNavigator from CarUI.

On the Tom Tom website it says version 5 is "available soon", and you already have it? How can that be?
got the upgrade pack mate, came in the post on thursday.
Where did you get it from then? I can't buy it from the Tom Tom website, because it just says "available soon".
Or is that just the software upgrade?
Then again, if the software is ready, the whole package should be available too, including the GPS device. Where do I get it?
No Idea, i found the webpage on the tom tom website for the upgrade and got it that way.
Don't know why the whole package is not avalable yet, have you checked other pda shops on the web to see if any?
TT% upgrade
Log out and re-log in on the main tom tom page, and it should appear for you...
Not too impressed with TT5 so far, but only loaded it last night

Forgot to mention, I got in my car and had previously been using my BT GPS. XDA connected to BT car kit no worries, then I plugged in wired GPS - selected this GPS and TT5 turned BlueTooth off.... thanks Tom Tom, so I had to turn it back on for my car kit connection..
Pain in the butt..

bugger!!! I have just bought an XDAIIi and installed 3.07 last week. It worked great until (as bluebotel has said in another thread) you go into another cell and the phone communicayes with the mast, then it locks up. I have tested tomtom 3.07 with the phone off, on, making a call with the GPS plug in and not plug in. Basically if the phone has to do something (call, change cell) and the GPS is plugged in, tomtom freezes. If you run tomtom but do not have the GPS plugged in (i.e. tomtom isnt actually navigating) then tomtom doesn't lock up when the phoned is used, so its obviously the GPS reciever, coupled with tomtom that buggering it up!!
Not sure what to do now, do i send the xda back, get different software or will there be a fix. I was going to try tomtom5, but looks like it suffers the same problem!! What a bag of crap!!!!
Does anyonbe know if it works with XDAIIs or XDAIII???
Hi all,
After receiving my Tomtom navigator 5 yesterday, I managed to drive to work this morning (Approx 20miles) without a lockup with the Phone ON!
We shall see how it performs whilst I use it. Upto now it seems a well worth product upgrade. In fact the thing that impresses me the most is the frame rate of the Navigator View. Its so smooth I could be playing a game. No screen jerks.
The whole software seems faster and fluent with integrated menus and web content. If the XDA2i doesn't lock up like it did on tomtom 3 then I will be more than pleased.
I'll keep you posted
Cheers
Lee
sounds promising!!!
If you go to the product section of Tomtom site it says the i is suported, but if you go to the support pages, it doesn't appear on the list!!!
I have a cracked copy of 5 to test before i buy it, but can't get it to inmstal
It didn't take me long to find how to make it freeze!
With the phone on it seems to be ok, still needs more testing, however; when you try to download traffic or weather updates using the GPRS, it freezes everytime.
So basically don't download updates or even have GPRS on in the background!
I'm still unsure if the phone causes it to freeze, its looking like it may do yet I haven't seem it do that yet only the GPRS connection.
I'll keep you posted.
Cheers

What a bag of cak!!
Just installed 5 and went to play in the car, but i can't get the GPS reciever to connect. I am using a holux cr100 cradle (wired), i select "other wired" and it just sits there searching, saying "no gps device". It worked fine on TT3

This is the same issue that I have with TT5...though if you perform the traffic update whilst connected to your PC instead, the update works fine and doesn't crash. It seems that the data is downloaded but then it can't update it into TT. If you wait a few mins, then tap the screen you get a slow menu, go to the TT traffic bit and it says "last updated 0 mins ago", so something is happening.
I'd appreciate any thoughts on this as this is the one thing that is currently hacking me off about TT5...everything else works fine.

*cough* BitTorrent *cough*
People who bought TT3 were sent out TT5 via CD recently.
I have had the same problem with the BT GPS. What I do is go into the menu and tap on GPS status. Magically the GPS starts to work and it shows all the fixes.
From then on wards it works fine other than the lockup when using GPRS to update Traffic.

Problems with TomTom Navigator 6 on Polaris

I have had several problems with TomTom Navigator 6 (installed from HTC Touch Cruise CD). Using USA/Canada complete map purchased from TomTom.
History
1. The "Turn on sound" setting in Change Preferences does not stay set to on. Every time I start TomTom, the sound is turned off.
2. After a destination has been selected, the voice directions are incomplete. TomTom will say "After 100 yards..." rather than "After 100 yards, turn right". TomTom NEVER indicates what direction to turn in advance of the turn. It will tell you which direction to turn when you are at the point of turning, but never in advance.
3. I have a problem when selecting a contact as the destination. Click "Navigate to..." then "Contact", then scroll through my contacts and make a selection. In the vast majority of cases, Navigate to returns the address with the street number AFTER the street name rather than before it.
Thus TomTom returns:
Main Steet 134, Bryn Mawr
The address given for this contact can't be understood. Would you like to enter the address yourself?
All of my contacts are synced from Outlook/Exchange and are all set up correctly. This bug renders the Navigate to Contact fetaure useless.
First follow-Up
I finally got around to call TomTom regarding these problems and I am not happy with their response!
According to TomTom, the HTC Touch Cruise is not on their supported list. That's correct folks, not supported. Doesn't matter that it comes packaged with the TC, it's not supported. Blame HTC (they say) for including the license with an unsupported device.
The technician suggested that I downgrade to Navigator 6 V6.030 which supposedly addresses my issues. I did the downgrade and determined that:
1. The sound setting still is not maintained. In fact, it now required that I press Turn on Sound twice for this feature to work.
2. I am still not getting the complete voice response, only "After 1/8 mile..." No turn left or turn right. TomTom said I should reformat my memory card and reinstall app and maps and that MIGHT help. Well, I'm, not going to go through all of that unless I know it will work, too many other things on the memory card to deal with.
3. Navigate to.. Contacts now actually seems to work! But the ironic thing is that TomTom told me that the Navigate to... Contacts feature is ENTIRELY UNSUPPORTED even though it is in their software! They claim it was never completed and therefore not supported.
This is absurd. The hardware is not supported by the software that it was bundled with, and the software itself has features that are not even supported by the developer.
Second follow-Up
I uninstalled and reinstalled TomTom 6.032 from the CD. Also uninstalled and reinstalled the maps.
1. Default sound setting seems to have been fixed.
2. Still have the problem with incomplete audio directions ("In 1/8 mile...)
3. Navigate to Contacts also seems to be working though not tested extensively.
Am I the only user with this TomTom oddity? Why on earth will it not state the entire direction? TomTom has been no help, anyone here have any ideas?
I cannot say this for the US/Canada maps but for the Benelux/Western Europe maps, the directions are OK and I don't encounter your problem.
I'm using the default Dutch voice in version 6.032.
Try a hard reset and install tomtom again on the clean rom, see what happens with that.
German maps work fine, too. I'm using Lisa (as a speaker , who is more or less Tom Tom default I believe.
Sound settings are kept correctly.
Version 6.032
I don't have any problems with TomTom either.
IF you want to try some other voices, you could drop me a PM and we'll "arrange" so you can get them from me (got a package of many different voices)

I was preparing to hard reset my TC (last resort) when I figured that there was nothing to lose by changing the voice. I did, and it worked! Never would occur to me that the voice selection would have any impact on this problem.
But, unfortunately, the problem with keeoing the default sound setting has returned. Each time I start TomTom, the sound is off. ARGH!
Anyway, thank you for steering me in the right direction. Hopefully this one issue is now put to bed.
Nice to be able to help
maybe you could be so kind reading my thread and answer it? (since it seems i'm the only one in this forum that actually owns a TC *cough cough*)

I get exactly the same problem with the sound. I have an XDA Orbit II, sound in TomTom always off, have to keep changing it, removed it, I use Co-Pilot and Navigon now, both are great.
RE: Sound problem
I have the same problem with the sound and it was bugging the hell out of me too. Speaking to a friend of mine who has the same problem, apparently it is due to a known bug in the current TomTom release: If you have a data connection open when you start TomTom, it thinks you are in the middle of a voice call and mutes the sound. My friend also informed me that there should be a new release from TomTom soon that addresses the issue. I don't have any links but there may well be another thread somewhere on this forum about it if you search.
The sound on my TomTom will occassionally turns itself off and requires it to be turned on TWICE to work again. I think its a known bug. The problem used to be worse on my P3600/Trinity.
Update- from the kaiser forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=330235
It's a bug, you have to switch off the data connection before starting TomTom.
SIMPLE FIX: Roll the volume wheel and sound turns on.

Sure? Rumour has it on GPS-specific forums that TomTom are not actively working on updating Nav6 (for PDAs) because its too much like hard work; much more revenue in (simpiler) dedicated units which are more stable

Interesting. Prior to launching TomTom, I used Comm Manager to turn off the data connection. When TT launched, sound is indeed on! When sound is off as a result of an active data connection), using the volume slider on the TC does not turn the sound on. Seems like the only way it to go to settings and select Sound On twice.
Hopefully TomTom will correct this bug. May also try downgrading to 6.030 to see if that works but I don't know what features I'd be losing (if any).

Kenwood BT-200 Handsfree Kit

I've got a Kenwood BT-200 bluetooth handsfree car kit and have found the following issues with it;
1. Everytime a call is completed, the phone book downloads all over again and takes over 10 minutes, preventing making follow on calls till complete.
2. The received and dialed calls list doesn't work
3. Cannot initiate a call from the head unit unless the phone screen is on (was working perfectly on previous HTC Touch Cruise).
4. Unable to initiate voice dialing on Phone using Microsoft Voice Command whereas with previous HF kits it was as simple as pressing and holding the call button.
Anyone else use the same Touch Pro - BT200 combination? Or experience similar problems with other HF kits?
I have Pioneer BT unit. I can not connect, but I installed Hands-Free Config from JETware Mobile Software and it solved all my problems. There are many setting options which should help you...
Hi Pritman,
I just went through the same thing after upgrading to the Touch Pro from the Dopod 838Pro (Hermes).
There's a firmware update available for the KCA-BT200 which may well fix your issues (certainly did mine).
I created a post about this earlier today (didn't see your post here).
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=440494
The firmware flash is very easy to do. You will just need a laptop with a bluetooth adaptor.
Codenix.
Kenwood have released another update.
See my other post at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=440494 for details.
Codenix.
Wow, never thought I would fine anyone else with the combination of Kenwood DNX-7100, KCA-BT200 AND the touch pro. I am having similar issues.
DNX-7100 with BT100 worked fine with touch pro.
"upgraded" to BT200, and I have nothing but headaches.
I have tried two different BT200, and both have been flaky.
I have tried BT200 firmware 1.60 and 1.70, and both have been flaky.
My problem is similar to the ones you folks have been experiencing, mainly it is constantly downloading, and the interface is super sluggish when downloading. I can retrieve a name and phone number from the BT200's memory, but when I call out it will say downloading and do nothing. Sometimes it won't "pair" with the phone automatically unless I manually select my phone from the DNX-7100, and sometimes it will just drop the connection. I used the BT100 for about a year, and it was solid 95% of the time. I am running stock Telus rom, btw. I have also played around with the dip switch on the BT-200. From the shipped manual, DNX-7100 belongs in group F, which is off, off, on for dip switch 1, 2, 3. But when I searched online, some of Kenwood's info listed the DNX-7100 under group G, which has dip switch off, on, off, just to add to the confusion. I have also tried removing the "wireless stereo" profile as well as the "serial port" profile, but that fixed nothing. Lastly, just to kick me when I'm down, when it list the numbers, sometimes it list them as first name, then last name, but sometimes it list it as last name then first. This is super irritating as you can't be sure where anyone is listed ..... so far my experience with the BT200 has been nothing but horrible. I am on the verge of flashing my touch pro to a cooked ROM just to see if it is due to the stock Telus rom's bluetooth (I went back to stock as the juggalo rom I used became corrupt after a few weeks).
So, did you guys finally find a solution that worked 100% of the time?
Idea
Hi Guys, I'm glad there are more people out there with my combination.
Upgrading the BT 200 to 1.70 has improved things significantly but not as good as it would be with another handset like a Nokia N95. The download delay and sluggishness still exist.
I recall when I paired the TP, a notice came up on the TP that the BT 200 is requesting access to the phonebook or contacts and prompted me to allow or deny. I'm wondering what would happen if I deny? I do know that when I first paired the N95 with the older firmware, it wouldn't syncronise the contacts and I had to manually send the contacts to the BT 200. If this can be done with the TP, it may eliminate the constant downloading, perhaps.
Anyone else willing to try this. I may not be able to do this till later this weekend so if any of you do manage to test this before me, please post the results.
Good luck!
If you don't give it access to the phonebook, I suspect it can't download your phonebook automatically, and you would have to manually push the phonebook over, which defeats the purpose of the BT-200, effectively making it a BT-100. After trying a 2nd BT-200 for 3 days, I have given up and chalked up the BT-200 as extremely flaky, and is easily the worst purchase I have ever made as:
1) Half the time it won't pair with the phone automatically
2) The other half when it does pair, you can't dial out as half time time again when you want to make it call, it decides to do a download from your phone instead (never mind that it already "downloaded" when it paired already. Half x half = quarter.
3) Half the time when it does manage to make it call, it magically drops the bluetooth pairing and drops the call.
If you're keeping track, we are at half x half x half, which is 0.125, or this damn thing only works 12.5% of the time. This is not a time saver, nor a gadget of convenience/safety. It is the ultimate source of anxiety, danger (as you're trying to get the damn thing to work), and a big disappointment. Kenwood, shame on you for putting out such flaky products, and especially for not fixing it (look at the first post, it is from Oct 08).
I am going to return both of my BT-200 to Clutchfield, and am going back to my 99% stable BT-100. BT-100 actually is not as horrible with the TP as TP runs WinMo 6.1, which lets you push multiple phone book contacts at once (not like the older WinMo where you had to push contacts ONE BY ONE!!!). The only caveat with the BT-100 is if you need to delete or modify any contacts, you can't, and you have to delete all the entries for a particular phone and repair and push all contacts again, which takes 1 minute now as oppose to half an hour with pre-WinMo 6.1. When I buy a HU next time, I don't think I will consider Kenwood again due to:
1) Flaky software/interface.
2) Poor documentation.
3) Poor service support. Kenwood Canada actually NEVER REPLIED. I only received the auto-gen email notification indicating they received my email. Clutchfield Canada has been very supportive, and I will pay more to buy from them in the future solely due to their strong customer support.
Hi Johnnysks,
As far as the Touch Pro is concerned, I understand your frustration and totally support your argument.
On the other hand, I have tested the BT-200 with a Nokia 96 & my previous Touch Cruise, works like a dream! I've had good responses from Kenwood UK but whenever I contact HTC, I alway get vague responses, which to me suggests that Kenwood must have been making the effort but keep getting let down by HTC. Ultimately the BT-200 works with majority of the handsets out there.
I will still keep trying for a solution though as I really do like the TP and the BT-200!
I have no doubts the BT-200 works with other phones, and I know my TP works with my BT-100 flawlessly. I also know from prior personal dealings with Kenwood Canada's technical support that:
1) They're rude, have a bad attitude, and unprofessional (as my first inquiry for a different product from a year ago was met with a reply that was condescending, unhelpful, and was not even in proper English). I'll be more than happy to dig up my old email for you if you have any doubts.
2) They're not responsive. It's been over a week, and they never replied to my current inquiry regarding the BT-200 (funny. They used to be rude and unprofessional. Now they're missing in action)
Perhaps Kenwood USA, Kenwood UK, or Kenwood Japan are doing an awesome job. However, I can only go with what I have personally experienced.
Anyone find a fix for this? I have the same problems with my DNX8120. Tried Jetware, no luck, I would try BTRestore, but it won't work with .net 3. My biggest complaint is that even if it is connected via bluetooth, it won't start a call from th eheadset unless the phone is not in standby. Next biggest issue is that it drops the connection after hanging up from a call.
Very f*&%*g annoying!
FYI, worked with 2 different ETEN's

Vzw tp2 gps issue

Gps doesn't work on my phone. Do I need to return it? Google doesn't know where I am and waze also today does the same thing now. Says no gps, go outside when I am outside. I had the storm for a few weeks just before I got the tp2 and it had no problem. Google maps knew where I was. On my tp2 it's set location on.
I don't know what to do. I have alot of anxiety over this now.
I hope someone will be able to please help me.
Thank you so much.
Joe
Did you:
1) SEARCH the this forum first?
2) Set your phone's GPS option to always on instead on 911 only?
3) Update the "Quick GPS" Program?
4) Select the "Use GPS" option in Google maps?
if you answered "No" to any of these, please return your phone and get your storm back.
Yes I did all that.
hmmm... does Google maps day "GPS active" or "Seeking GPS Satellites" up in the top right corner??
It said seeking.
I did not click the gps button in google maps. I thought I did click it. Sorry
it then said it found no gps hardware after j enabled the gps. So I did a memory, storage button and erase back to factory. So I'll try again. But, what is the google.com URL to use to get google maps for my phone? Only thing is one place said google maps is not available for my phone. I forget what site said this.
Google hates Opera Mobile for some odd reason, try going to m.google.com in pocket IE or whatever it's called and select Google Maps from there.
Ok. Great. Thanks. Yes I was using opera.
I just think of it as IE. Don't know what pocket pc means really. So I'll use the built in IE mobile and try m.google.com and report back. Thanks so much.
Joe
don't forget to do steps 2 through 4 in my first post.
I just got back from a walk to test the gps. It worked awesome with google maps. I installed it first to sd card. I tried to run it and it would not work. It popped up some sort of error. Like runtime maybe. I forget. I went to remove programs and it wouldn't remove it giving same error or something. I forget the error. So I had to manually delete the new folders on the sd card. Then I installed to main storage and it worked.
It says gps 10 in the top right. What does this mean?
It was dead on accurate. It was literally exact and when not probably within 20 feet or less. I thought it was funny when I would walk into the middle of the street the blue ball followed me and when I was in the middle of the street it was too. Kinda eary like lol. It was awesomely accurate.
Does google maps have turn by turn directions? My cousin who has iPhone says it does. I know it won't talk to you .
Can you guys recomend other free gps apps/services? Waze doesn't work good since alot of times it looses connection and won't try to reconnect. I also doesn't have good coverage which I don't understand. It's using gps so how can it not know where I am?
I just can't afford money cus I'm on disability right now and don't work. I have a huge visa bill I'm paying and now I have to have a tooth replacement which will cost me upwards of $3000-$4000. This range is possible. So free is preferred of course. However if there's a free trial of a good one I don't mind trying one.
What is the use for gps device with this phone? The phone has external gps settings. What's this for?
Sorry for all the questions.
The "10" at the top means that 10 satellites got a lock on ya (I think, correct me if I'm wrong) And yes, you can get turn by turn directions, but sometimes, even google makes mistakes with it's addresses, so be careful. I'll leave the rest up to anyone else that has some good suggestions or answers...
Also... everything is free on the piratebay...you know... just saying...

Also try Windows Live Search Mobile, or Bing mobile, whatever it is called.
It does routing a bit better then Google IMHO, and has a warning tone just before a turn. Though still no speech.
The only problem is that it expects to have a D-Pad for zooming in and out. The TP2 doesn't have that, some zooming in and out is a pain.
IGO 8 is a great GPS software at least IMO. It has very little lag during navigation and so far I have found it to be one of the most accurate as far as the maps are conerned. I have used just about every GPS software there is whether it is free or paid subscriptions and IGO 8 it the only one that actually show the front entrance to my community on the maps. According to all other GPS softwares it does not exist. I have used all the current versions and IGO 8 is the only once showing this. Every once in a while it will take me on a longer route when I know there is a shorter way, but so far if I do not know where I am going it will get me there. It's not perfect but I find it the fasetest and most accurate for what I use it for. I am sure others will have different opinions.
Google it.
Google Navigator
Google maps works okay by itself, but it apparently works better with this and its also free. Make you wander how anyone will be able to charge for navigation in the future if it works well. Looks as good on screen as any commercial product.

Never mind this suggestion. Upon further looking around it actually costs $59 bucks. Not what you are looking for. The trial does not even allow actual navigation to start.
I have a VZW TP2 for about two weeks. I put Bing and Google Maps on it and the GPS appeared to work OK. Then it stopped.
For over one week no GPS. Right now I put it in the back yard on a table. Clear view of the sky. No luck.
My TP2 does not have QUICKGPS. I have been told that is standard on all TP2's. Verizon said to do a hard reset to get it.
Are those of you having success using QUICKGPS? Any idea how to get it without doing a hard reset and hoping it populates on the device???
JG
Thanks for the responses so far. I appreciate it.
Quick gps should be in the phone. If not there's only hard reset back to factory. However you got it that way and it should be on the phone. If it's not then return it for another. That's what I'd do anyway.

I did the hard reset. Quick GPS was there! I have quite a few hours of work to reset the phone and reinstall the programs that I had.
I would estimate 4-5 hours to get the phone back to where it was. This sure seems like a lot of work to get one silly file on the TP2.....
I can't find that Microsoft maps app nor this igo thing.

Are you talking about Live search? If so, just google it or go to msn.com and go from there.
Horrible lag
You huys are telling me you have no lag in your gps??? I can lock in seconds no problem but when I use any nav software is has a 10-20sec lag! It blows..... I have a solid 8-13 sats and same thing. I went as far as doing a hard reset and installing nothing but googke maps and it still lagged........ Any help?!?!?!
Tp2 comes with live search already. I thought it was search only so I never opened it. Well I did finally and it's better then google maps because it shows the directions on the bottom of the map screen while you move. And I heard it beep at me on my driveway which I just was testing it. Kinda neat but it sucks cus it's your system beep I think and volume is far too soft.
So I updated to the new version which is bing and installed it to my sd card. I haven't tested it yet though. Oh yeah. Picture quality in live/bing is the WORST ever!!!! It sucks balls. It's blurry and hurts my eyes to look at it. Any other map app I'm sure is a kazillion times clearer like google maps has an awesome clean clear crisp picture. F ms I say. Since it's such a Terrible picture.
Or is there something to set to make it not so crummy I wonder?

Default BT action (via headset)

Hey guys,
I upgraded my wife to the SkyRocket for Christmas, but I'm having a problem using the Bluetooth with our motorcycle helmet headsets.
Everything pairs just fine, but once connected a push of the BT button on the headset should initiate Voice Dial (at least that's what happens with my DINC2). However her SR will go straight in to the dialer, and dial one of her contacts. Its always the same contact too (and not even someone she really wants to talk too lol)
Is there anyway to change/set the default BT Action on the SR??
Unrooted - completely stock ROM.
Thanks
Ed
Hey Ed,
I am working on the same thing. I have a Cardo Scala Rider G4 that I used with my iPhone. I was quite disappointed in the BT performance. I have gotten some voice dialing to work on it. It's not 100%, but it's certainly better than what is going on.
Get the Galaxy S2 voice 2 go (from the orig GS2 - check this thread) - It's basically a rebranded Vlingo, but has a couple more commands (like play music).
The Dial button still didn't work with it, but now does with the Bluetooth Launch app. Thankfully it's free. Make sure you reboot the app after installing it. It seems like the app just needs to be there, and you don't have to configure it to run the Galaxy Voice 2 go / vlingo.
Some things still not great for bikers like us:
- Can't initiate voice dialing / actions with screen locked (there is a bypass setting from what I read in other threads, but it doesn't seem to be in our ROM)
- haven't tested voice initiated answer, but I am not holding my breath.
Let me know how you make out!

Thanks for the suggestions Steve!
We're using the Sena SMH10 headsets and have pretty happy with them, even with my wife's old Iphone 3GS. I'd just like to avoid the odd behavior that she's had with the SR.
Voice dial with my DINC2 works ok as long as I'm stopped. Once I get moving however, the helmet/wind noise confuses the voice dialer and I never know who I'm going to get lol

Yeah, that makes sense. I find the Scala performs better when moving. The noise cancellation is pretty good. I usually use the voice command to play a play list or an album, not really to take calls. Are you using an open face helmet or full face? Mine is a full face, which might be the difference.
I'm hoping that once some official CM ROM or something else comes out, that this gets fixed. I can say that even though I like Droid better for everything else, the 3GS voice control worked really well.
We both use Modular Helmets (me a Shoei Multitec and her a Shark Evoline) so they are bit noisier than a standard full face. Neither of us are organized for things like play lists... that's what Shuffle All is for!!
Actually I have a Zumo 550 with XM and I control my tunes through the GPS. Unfortunately the Zumo doesn't do BT stereo...so I'm hardwired to it.
Oh and I just loaded her up with VtoG and Bluetooth Launch....so far it looks promising. At least she's not calling Phil anymore . It's going to be a few days until we field test it.

I use a Fulmer modular. It's not terribly noisy, but then again the ventilation is horrible. I am not super organized about playlists, but I found that my iPod incremented playcount only when a song ended. I travel a lot for business, so on the plane I would shuffle all songs and then skip ones I didn't like. I then built a smart playlist in iTunes where all songs with a playcount >1 where in it.
I'll have to do a field test at some point, but it's damn cold right now. It might be high 40's by Friday, so I might get out.
BTW - I did find the the Scala's A2DP play/pause function works well with the stock music player and winamp, even when locked. I can probably live with setting music on before leaving and just using the controls if I want to stop it.
I have considered wiring in my Sirius radio, but that's one of many projects I am working on
