[CDMA]Discussion of CyanogenMod Nightlies for BravoC - Desire Android Development

Since there hasn't been a thread for the cdma nightlies I decided to post this one.
Code:
/*
* Your warranty is now void.
*
* The CM team is not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards,
* thermonuclear war, you getting fired because the alarm app failed, or anything whatsoever.
* Please do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this ROM
* before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if
* you point the finger at me for messing up your device, I will laugh at you.
*/
CyanogenMod is a free, community built distribution of Android 2.2.1 (Froyo) which greatly extends the capabilities of your phone.
This is an AOSP-based build with extra contributions from many people which you can use without any type of Google applications. I found a link from some other project that can be used to restore the Google parts, which can be found below or elsewhere in the thread.
You can find the changelog here
You can find the nightlies here
You can find the gapps here
And if you have any issues with that version of gapps try this one
The original thread on Cyanogenmod.com can be found here
I have nothing to do with the development of this rom. I only want to bring easier access to it for the XDA community and offer us a place where we can discuss anything related to it.
INSTRUCTIONS:
- First time flashing a CM 6 nightly (or coming from another ROM)?
1. Unlock/root your device - Click Me
2. Do a Nandroid backup!
3. WIPE
4. Install the ROM
5. Optionally install the Google Addon
- Upgrading from earlier CM6 nightly?
1. Do a Nandroid Backup!
2. Install the ROM (your Google apps will be backed up automatically)
3. If gapps above is newer then flash it after the rom.
Credit goes out to Kali and Defer for porting this rom to our devices and keeping up with the necessary updates.

yeah i wasn't thinking plus I fell alseep right after making this thread. then i had to work today so i didn't get around to doing it. lol

Thanks for the info in the IRC. Everthing is working right now. I had to redo my framework-res in a theme kitchen and re-push the sense themed ADW I am using, but other than that, all my settings and apps were fine.

All right I just tried installing my first rom 10/25 nightly, and I bricked my desire. It goes into cyanogen loop and does nothing. I did backup before and copied to pc. now when I start back up into recovery, I pick an option and it goes black and stays there. HELP!

Did u wipe/factory reset and then wipe cache. If not do that first then reflash the rom

It's not bricked.... I don't think you can ever fully brick a bravoC unless you screw your HBoot and therefore fastboot.
also, just wanted to mention to the OP that the cyanogen you directed me to install last night has been working pretty well. The battery life is very good. I still have 71% remaining. (Been running for about 7.5 hours)

I did backup, wipe, flash.
It wont let me do anything from recovery screen. any option i choose causes screen to go black and stay there. if I hit power again it goes right back to recovery screen.

Pull battery then reboot into recovery
Sent from my HTC Desire CDMA using XDA App

I rebooted again and all is good. cm6 is up and everything is ok.

gapps link in this thread does not include android market.

I'll update it when I get home don't know how that happened I believe its the one I flashed recently
Sent from my HTC Desire CDMA using XDA App

I tried dloading it again and reflash and now my phone is dead again. Its stuck in bootloop. If I go to recovery it shows error at bottom
ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.0.9
E:Error in CACHE:recovery/log
(No space left on device)
It will not let me do any of the options from recovery screen. Screen just goes dark and does nothing. If I hit power button when screen is dark it goes right back to recovery screen.

Never had that issue pull battery and reboot

[Q] Which rom should I use?

Okay I'm pretty new to Android and rooting and all that stuff, so I'm kind of confused by everything. I rooted my Inspire with Bubby's one-click method (except I don't understand why it's called "one-click" because it took me like two hours and wasn't one click...) and I'd like to install a custom rom now, but I have no clue what to be looking for...Are there any Honeycomb roms for the Inspire yet? Can anybody recommend something good for me? Also a video or detailed instructions on how to flash it would be helpful. (I watched a video on how to root with Bubby's thing)
Moved to General. Please refrain from asking questions in development forums.

What does it have? Like what android version and what version of sense? Also where can I get it?

Yeah, prolly be a good idea if you've never flashed before to stick with one of the stock based roms to begin with...probably without even an overclocking kernel in it.
Get the basics down before you go after the more elaborate ROMs.
1. Go to Market
2. Download ROM Manager
3. install it
4. Open it and click "Flash Clockwork Mod Recovery" allow root permission
5. will say "confirm model" (though it only gives you htc Desire as option)
6. Click that and allow it to flash - will say "success" when complete
7. Click on "back up current ROM"
8. It will then boot you into clockworkmod recovery and do a back up
9. Once complete...Reboot
10. download a custom ROM (From phone browser or pc)
11. place into root of sdcard
12. on your phone click on ROM Manager
13. click reboot into recovery - click ok
- wait for recovery menu to load up. -
14. (depending on ROM - you may need to click "wipe data/factory reset" then "wipe cache partition" its always not a bad idea anyway...'specially if your coming from different ROM builds. To keep your apps and data, download Titanium Back up from market and back up your user apps and data, like account info and email data. That way you don't have to re-enter all that stuff each time you flash to different ROM)
15. click "install zip from sdcard"
16. then "choose zip from sdcard"
17. scroll to downloaded ROM .zip - choose it
18. goto "Yes- install (name of .zip)" choose it
Then let it do its thing...once its completed installing...choose go back and then Reboot system.
depending on ROM it might take a few minutes to load..but I say no more than 5 minutes. Once rebooted, skip all the account stuff, goto market, download Titanium Backup (if not already in flashed ROM) and restore your stuff.
That's the most basic way...get used to doing that...then move onto more crazy ROM's where you gotta flash 3 or 4 or more patches.
enjoy your new ROM.
i think it would be better to get a general idea of how each rom runs on the phone...then narrow down your choices from that and by which particular options or themes and such. everyone is going to have an opinion on which rom is the best...
Coming from the captivate section though....i think it would be nice to have a breakdown of known problems from each rom base. For example, which roms are known to need a sound fix, or which ones are known to cause battery drain, etc etc.
From what i have read, the desire hd based roms need the sound fix, but what are the other problems with using it? What are the problems/reasons more people aren't using the Inspire rom as a base? Are the gingerbread leak based roms for the DHD and have the same problems? What are the known issues with CM7 so far?

Just for the fun of it, you should try MIUI. The instructions on the thread are clear and easy, and it's a different experience than the rest of the others. I don't know why more people aren't trying it, it's really smooth and damn fast. If you want to stick with the regular ROMs, dilligafs ROM is a great piece of work.

My personal experience is cm7 is great. I'm currently running the latest nightly and have had 0 issues with it. I've tried other roms such as the sense based ones but i just can't stay for some reason. I tried MIUI as well but it's just not for me. I'm a fan of vanilla android so cm7 seem's the one to be the closest that i can get to it, atm anyways.
But you should try multiple roms and decided which one you perfer the best.
But do I have to lose all my stuff everytime I try a new ROM? I lost all but like 10 contacts when I rooted and I lost all my apps...I thought the apps stayed in my Market Account, but nope. I was wrong.
Okay so in ROM Manager, when I go to "Download ROM" there's a Core Droid ROM, but there are two. Which one do I use? One is 4.8 and the other is 4.9, but the 4.9 one says "patch" in the description so idk if I'm supposed to install both, or what?

you'll have to read that thread under the Inspire 4G Android Development and ask over there...I'm not familiar enough nor have I tried that one yet. Or I may have...I can't remember. The Ingersoll ROM and the dilligaf ROM are the only 2 oc Roms I've flashed and had no problems with when installed. But I'm looking for speed and performance over bells and whistles.
I would read and download from the threads rather than Rom manager.
Yes you will prolly lose stuff when you flash different ROMs. That's why I also suggested you should get familiar with titanium back up...it was made for stuff like this...and guys like us
Use titanium backup to back up your apps and app settings. Use google contacts to backup your contacts.
Instead of downloading the rom in RomManager, you can download it from the threads in the dev section, transfer it to the SD card, and then flash it with Clockwork Recovery.
okay I'm having a problem now. I tried to boot into recovery to do a Nandroid backup, and I installed an app called Quick Boot that has a button to boot into recovery, so I did it, but it just came up with a blank screen. The screen wasn't off though, it was just blank. I tried to look it up and somebody said hold down power, volume up, and home, and I did it, it vibrated a couple times, then the screen went off. Now the LED is just flashing...I have no clue what to do now...Can somebody help?

[Q] Coredroid V6.2 issues...and pretty much other ROMS

Hello everyone...
I am new to the Android...yet another blackberry and Iphone convert...
I have a fully rooted Inspire, currently running CyanogenMod 7.03, which runs just fine for me. The problem I am having is that I never want to stick to anything that I can change....so I am always looking for newer roms etc. I have tried to install LeeDroid (unsure of exact version but it was posted the other day) and have attempted to install Coredroid V6.2. The problem is each time the ROM has apparently been installed, the phone is stuck on the white HTC screen for good. I have waited up to 30 minutes for each ROM to boot, to no avail.
Any help would be greatly appreciated......also...to any devs..I have several web sites that have very little bandwidth if you want to use their FTP servers..(free of charge, of course) I have 2 terabyte per month bandwidth on each of the seven FTP servers. Send me a PM or just post here.
Thanks,
Don
Here is what I am currently running:
Rom Manager Premium V4.2.0.2 with CWM V3.0.2.6 (have rolled back to other versions, no luck.)
Current ROM CyanogenMod 7.0.3 with no extras
Baseband 12.39a.60.19P_26.06.06.30_M
Make sure you do a data and cache wipe every time you switch roms unless you are updating cm nightlies. And don't use rom manager for downloading and flashing. Do it manually for best results. Things get buggy when you get lazy.
Sent from my Inspire using XDA Premium App
I have cleared everything each time...this is bugging me lol. I tried a CM nightly last night, same deal. Thanks for the response, though.
Resolved....I think.
Since I was unable to install the rom from within Rom Manager, I went to trusty ol' droid explorer and selected install rom from the tools menu. This changed the rom name from coredroidxxxx.zip to update.zip. From there, it gave me the option to reboot into recovery, reboot and install or save for later. I selected reboot and install, and it locked up with a white triangle and exclamation point....
From here, I was able to reboot into CWM and clear data and davlik cache and installed update.zip without a problem.
Thanks!
Glad ya got it working.

twitter/facebook/rom manager errors

Sorry if this isn't the right forum ahead of time
I just loaded Android Revolution 5.1.9 on my Inspire, I keep getting errors from Rom Manager, Twitter, Facebook, and it force closes everytime it tries to load. I've tried updating to no avail. Help would be great because I'm tired of seeing these FC messages

what would be the best method of flashing a new rom, since isn't rom manager the way to do it? (I'm really new on the rooting scheme since I migrated from the iPhone)
That was probably your problem, as it's a known bug that wipes don't work when initiated from ROM Manager. Put the ROM's zip file on your SD Card. reboot into recovery. Choose factory reset. Then choose advanced>wipe Dalvik cache.
After that, choose 'install zip from sd card'. Just navigate to your zip and select it.

Check the stickied guide in this general section, by mudknot2005, it has an excellent step-by-step, with pictures even, of the "non ROM manager" way of flashing roms.

It doesn't look like that link is linking, or something. I'm using XDA app, so links are a PITA.
You'll find it.
Thanks guys. Will try to get into recovery. I think when I tried switching roms from Core Droid, it went straight into bootloader, and didn't let me choose to go into recovery
edit: still having the issue of not being able to go into recovery. It loads the first screen, won't let me select anything, then goes into fastboot
Found a work around, taking out the SD card, then going into recovery. Works great so far. Did the cache clearing also.
Thank you for reporting the fix! Getting ready to pull the trigger here. Lurked n read n lurked n read ...gotta evidently update net.framework ... anyway you did good. Stuck with it and then reported the work around. I try to operate that way.

Custom Roms for Skyrocket ICS

Hello Everyone, I am using a newly rooted Skyrocket on ICS. I updated it from GB to stock ICs using kies. I got the phone through AT&T as a replacement after every other replacement was defected and rooted it with Odin the next day.
My problem is I can't find any custom roms that I am sure work on Skyrocket ICS and I also can't get CWM Touch to work. Now I am a veteran to Android but am fairly to new to rooting so please go easy on me!
Roms are in the development section. They'll all work once you figure out CWM recovery. The stickies in general and development contain noob guides and such that will get you in the right direction.
I'm not sure there is anything we can do for you until you gain more information -that is unless I've misunderstood your intent. You've rooted the device, so your capable :good:

I am curious, when you say rooted with ODIN do you mean you flashed CWMT to the phone? Rooting and ODIN = 2 VERY different things.
If you flashed the CWMT with ODIN make sure that you flashed the correct version. Goto clockworkmod.com and verify the version.
Once you have CWM up and running, installing Cyanogenmod 9 RC2 is very simple.
This procedure will wipe all your apps, data and settings (but it will NOT touch your SD cards, so don’t worry about those).
Backup your Apps and important data
Once you have CWM working do a nandroid backup
Download the latest version of the ROM from the official Cyanogenmod get.cm page.
Download the Google Apps package.
This will install apps like Market, Gmail, etc. which are not present in the ROM by default.
Transfer the downloaded zip files to the internal SD card on the phone.
Turn off the phone, then boot into CWM recovery.
For this, press and hold these 3 buttons together until Samsung’s screen shows up: Volume UP + Volume Down + Power. Phone will boot into CWM recovery.
Perform a wipe:
Select wipe data/factory reset, then select Yes on next screen to confirm.
Wait a while till the data wipe is complete.
Select advanced, and then select wipe dalvik cache » Yes – wipe dalvik.
Then go back to the main recovery menu.
Select install zip from sdcard, then select choose zip from sdcard.
Scroll to the ROM file on the SD card and select it.
Confirm installation by selecting Yes – Install _____.zip on the next screen. The ROM will start installing.
After installation is complete, go back to the main recovery menu.
Repeat steps above for installing the rom, but this time choose the Google apps .zip to install Google apps.
After the installation of Google apps package is complete, select go back then select reboot system now to reboot the phone.
I must say some others report having to use Darksidewipe also.
Just do a search for Installing CM9 on a skyrocket in Google... It will also have links to the zips.
**** ALSO, be advised there is reportedly a brickbug on select Samsung phones that has to do with a corrupt eMMC...******
Good luck my friend. I have been running the nighty builds for a while and just updated to the RC2 build last night. Silky smooth. Just wish I had more time to play with it before CM10 (JB) comes out...

[Q] Notification and status bar gone

I bought a phone from ebay SGH i727 Android version 4.0.4 Baseband version 1727UCLE2 Build Number SkY ICS 4.2E-2 Kernel Version 3.0.8 perf 1727ucle2-cl526987 [email protected]#1 smp preempt tue may 8 kst 2012 (if all this info works). It was at&t device, which is working with tmobile sim. The problem is there is NO status or notification bar.
There is no way I can receive a call on this phone. NO WAY, no green icon to slide, no home key reply - nothing.
My question are below
1. Can I simply do a factory reset, since if the phone is working on tmobile it is unlocked - right? and should work after factory reset.
2. The phone has root access by superuser and a few more apps that make me think that it may have been a software unlock to allow at&t and tmobile sim ONLY. Is that possible, and is factory reset advised in that case?
Sounds like it's running sky ics. Im pretty sure the reason the phone is unusable is due to the fact it was already factory reset.
Your best bet is to read the stickies and install a fresh rom.

I downloaded the zip file and ran a rom updater via ROM MANAGER app, it did everything, it took a backup, ran a whole lot of activities and said that ROM is updated. Nothing, there is no status or notification bar, there is no change in the phone details from the one posted above.
I just want to be able to ANSWER my calls as of now. I hear a call sound but there is no way to pick up that call. The only way is to see a missed call notice in the wallpaper and then call back.
Don't use rom manager, use recovery.

The only way is to see a missed call notice in the wallpaper and then call back.

connect the phone to your computer, put the ROM on the internal sd card, reboot into recovery (remove battery, put it back in, press and hold [power+volume up & down] til samsung logo disappears ) and flash the ROM from internal sd card

Make sure you do a factory reset, wipe system, dalvik, and cache a couple times in recovery mode before flashing a new ROM

I was just apprehensive and had read good reviews about ROM manager, so I downloaded a custom rom via it and installed the CyanogenMod Version 9.1.0-Skyrocket
As of now, status and notifications seem to be working fine.
Thank you for all your help, hmm maybe the next time I will try something via a non - interface way.
Thanks again.

By the sounds of it, you should read the stickies as suggested before flashing roms.. sounds like you used rom manager to flash the CM version? Wouldn't advise that in the future and probably lucky nothing bad happened if that is indeed how you did it.
Need any help, feel free to pm me.
