Okay I'm pretty new to Android and rooting and all that stuff, so I'm kind of confused by everything. I rooted my Inspire with Bubby's one-click method (except I don't understand why it's called "one-click" because it took me like two hours and wasn't one click...) and I'd like to install a custom rom now, but I have no clue what to be looking for...Are there any Honeycomb roms for the Inspire yet? Can anybody recommend something good for me? Also a video or detailed instructions on how to flash it would be helpful. (I watched a video on how to root with Bubby's thing)

Yeah, prolly be a good idea if you've never flashed before to stick with one of the stock based roms to begin with...probably without even an overclocking kernel in it.
Get the basics down before you go after the more elaborate ROMs.
1. Go to Market
2. Download ROM Manager
3. install it
4. Open it and click "Flash Clockwork Mod Recovery" allow root permission
5. will say "confirm model" (though it only gives you htc Desire as option)
6. Click that and allow it to flash - will say "success" when complete
7. Click on "back up current ROM"
8. It will then boot you into clockworkmod recovery and do a back up
9. Once complete...Reboot
10. download a custom ROM (From phone browser or pc)
11. place into root of sdcard
12. on your phone click on ROM Manager
13. click reboot into recovery - click ok
- wait for recovery menu to load up. -
14. (depending on ROM - you may need to click "wipe data/factory reset" then "wipe cache partition" its always not a bad idea anyway...'specially if your coming from different ROM builds. To keep your apps and data, download Titanium Back up from market and back up your user apps and data, like account info and email data. That way you don't have to re-enter all that stuff each time you flash to different ROM)
15. click "install zip from sdcard"
16. then "choose zip from sdcard"
17. scroll to downloaded ROM .zip - choose it
18. goto "Yes- install (name of .zip)" choose it
Then let it do its thing...once its completed installing...choose go back and then Reboot system.
depending on ROM it might take a few minutes to load..but I say no more than 5 minutes. Once rebooted, skip all the account stuff, goto market, download Titanium Backup (if not already in flashed ROM) and restore your stuff.
That's the most basic way...get used to doing that...then move onto more crazy ROM's where you gotta flash 3 or 4 or more patches.
enjoy your new ROM.
i think it would be better to get a general idea of how each rom runs on the phone...then narrow down your choices from that and by which particular options or themes and such. everyone is going to have an opinion on which rom is the best...
Coming from the captivate section though....i think it would be nice to have a breakdown of known problems from each rom base. For example, which roms are known to need a sound fix, or which ones are known to cause battery drain, etc etc.
From what i have read, the desire hd based roms need the sound fix, but what are the other problems with using it? What are the problems/reasons more people aren't using the Inspire rom as a base? Are the gingerbread leak based roms for the DHD and have the same problems? What are the known issues with CM7 so far?

Just for the fun of it, you should try MIUI. The instructions on the thread are clear and easy, and it's a different experience than the rest of the others. I don't know why more people aren't trying it, it's really smooth and damn fast. If you want to stick with the regular ROMs, dilligafs ROM is a great piece of work.

My personal experience is cm7 is great. I'm currently running the latest nightly and have had 0 issues with it. I've tried other roms such as the sense based ones but i just can't stay for some reason. I tried MIUI as well but it's just not for me. I'm a fan of vanilla android so cm7 seem's the one to be the closest that i can get to it, atm anyways.
But you should try multiple roms and decided which one you perfer the best.
But do I have to lose all my stuff everytime I try a new ROM? I lost all but like 10 contacts when I rooted and I lost all my apps...I thought the apps stayed in my Market Account, but nope. I was wrong.

you'll have to read that thread under the Inspire 4G Android Development and ask over there...I'm not familiar enough nor have I tried that one yet. Or I may have...I can't remember. The Ingersoll ROM and the dilligaf ROM are the only 2 oc Roms I've flashed and had no problems with when installed. But I'm looking for speed and performance over bells and whistles.
I would read and download from the threads rather than Rom manager.
Yes you will prolly lose stuff when you flash different ROMs. That's why I also suggested you should get familiar with titanium back up...it was made for stuff like this...and guys like us
Use titanium backup to back up your apps and app settings. Use google contacts to backup your contacts.
Instead of downloading the rom in RomManager, you can download it from the threads in the dev section, transfer it to the SD card, and then flash it with Clockwork Recovery.

I tried to boot into recovery to do a Nandroid backup, and I installed an app called Quick Boot that has a button to boot into recovery, so I did it, but it just came up with a blank screen. The screen wasn't off though, it was just blank. I tried to look it up and somebody said hold down power, volume up, and home, and I did it, it vibrated a couple times, then the screen went off. Now the LED is just flashing...I have no clue what to do now...Can somebody help?

Back to the original question, I got my inspire last night and am using the android revolution beta that's based on gingerbread and it seems really solid. Been off the charger 7 hours and sitting at 80% battery and its very fast.

how much were you using your phone in that 7 hours? Was it in standby the whole time or were you actually using it?
I have read the entire forum on this ROM and haven't been able to find any info on my issue....
My network still shows HSDPA
My network coverage (icon) flips between H+, 3g & E...with no coverage at all sometimes.
I've received a couple calls where only a couple numbers show up in the caller id? Once it just showed the number 6 and another time just 107?
It's also been freezing up and have to reboot...the back button won't work.

Have you tried reflashing the ROM? Make sure you do a full wipe, dalvik.. etc... before flashing the ROM.
I know I wiped everything the first time around. I've thought about doing that...I guess that may be the end result. thanks

Do you flash it from rom manager?
The thing is, even though that's the dev's preferred way of doing it, and the way I did it, I've since come to learn from a post by Mudknot2005 in his guide that's stickied to this section, that rom manager has a bug where even though you choose to wipe, it doesn't actually wipe.
This is the first I'd heard of it, and I don't have additional info yet, but it's kind of left a question mark in my head about the integrity of my flash, via the suggested rom manager route.
Maybe someone with more insight will visit this thread and shed some light on this.

I did flash from ROM manager...It makes me a little less nervous to do it that way! I did read somewhere that you may need to flash back to an older version of ROM manager to avoid some of the bug possibilities. But like I said, I'm new to this and it can be a bit intimidating to a beginner. I def hope some more experienced members can get on here and help us out. Thanks Scott!

I try to avoid Flashing from ROM Manager, it just seems to be (for me anyway) cleaner to boot into recovery and flash from there that way i know for sure that Dalvik and cache got wiped and if required i know that a full wipe has actually been done.
For me the method listed below works best
1. boot into recovery
2. choose advanced and the wipe dalvik cache
3. choose go back and then do a factory reset delete data
4. optionally go into the mounts and storage menu
5. format system and format data and format cache
6 flash ROM of choice.

Hi smart people!
Just to throw it out there, I am not very tech savvy so excuse me if I misuse terms and such.
I believe I completely bricked my phone (I hope I'm wrong). After I downloaded Cyanogen through ROM Manager, my finger stumbled on the "continue" or "next" button or whatever WITHOUT checking the boxes to clear data, etc. I believe this is where I went wrong as I think I followed all other steps correctly (fyi I used the one click recovery flasher and made a back up).
Now when I turn on my phone, it goes from the stock LG loading screen to a modified LG loading screen (Cyanogen's I'm assuming) but it gets stuck there.
I've been searching on the different threads for quite a while and pressing the different combinations of volume up/volume down/power don't seem to do anything. I cannot get to the recovery screen.
Please help! I will forever be indebted to all of you. I am stupid and shouldn't have tried to do this on my own. Thanks in advance
What you will need to do is flash CWM via NVflash then boot into CWm and install your ROM.
If you flash CWM via ROM Manager it causes problems like what you're describing, I know from my own experience of following a friends instructions and doing that then having that exact issue. After getting my phone working again I then started to frequent the boards here.
As soon as I read the first couple lines I saw rom manager and saw the problem, you to search something that you have typed out all within this thread... I'm not near a computer but you should just search through these threads and you find your solution in detailed description. You need to get recovery from nvflasher just search that

I successfully was able to boot into cwm and then i restored a backup from yesterday. however when rebooting, it displays the LG logo and then the screen goes black and the back light flickers on and off. not quite sure what to do now...if you guys could let me know what i should do or post a link to another thread, i'd really appreciate it. i honestly have been going through other threads but i guess i'm just not competent enough to know which directions apply to my problem.....

The back-up could be corrupt and since the one time I had a problem with a nandroid was when it was created after ROM Manager sent the info to CWM, that's likely the case. Just redownload CM7 to your SD card, along with Gapps, wipe system, data and cache then flash CM7 followed by Gapps.

Have you wiped everything before restoring your backup through CWM? If not, boot into CWM, wipe data/factory reset, go to mounts and storage, format system, then go into advanced options, wipe delvik cache, then restore your backup.
I'm guessing you did a backup through rom manager, so if this doesn't work, you'll have to download a rom of your choice from the development section of this forum, load it onto your sd card through CWM although this is not recommended but you won't have any other choices, (to mount your sd card in CWM, go to mounts and storage, mount sd card), then wipe everything as mentioned above, then flash the new rom.
Or you can follow the instructions on this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1248644 to flash 2.3.3 via nvflash to get a working phone for now until you learn how to properly flash custom roms.

P.S. for future reference, you did not brick your phone, you got stuck in a boot loop, you know your phone is bricked when you don't see anything on the screen when you turn it on, usually it's just a software issue, but sometimes it could be hardware, for example I burned the motherboard on my previous android phone trying to customize it lol

He's already flashed CWM the right way, and tried to restore from a nandroid. I already mentioned getting a different ROM, he's already stated that he got this all started trying to flash CM7. Please read the posts which have already been made, we don't need the same information being posted again, if someone already posted something and you feel it needs clarified then clarify but from what I can tell you read one post and that was it.

The only "new" thing was asking if he wiped before the restore, which, at this point, would be useless to ask as I already told him to make sure to wipe.

And dalvik cache for good measure, even though it is stored on the cache partition and will probably get wiped when you wipe cache. Sometimes it's good to overdo thing's.
Unable to do anything!
Well i was playing with the phone, rooted and kept playing with different ROMS till i would have found a good stable one, but something happened, I ended up not being able to use any functions in cwm (apply update from..., backup and restore, install from zip). I wiped data/factory reset, cache partition, dalvik and i have the ROMS inside, i can see them in CWM. just can't read them. or any zip i use. what happened? is this bricked? if so do i have to go from scratch with the phone and use SDK?

Hello again smart people,
I was hoping we would never meet again (for the better) but unfortunately i must unroot my phone to receive work emails. I have tried unrooting my LG G2x multiple times but to no avail thus far.
Here is the process I have tried:
1) boot into recovery - wipe cache/data factory reset, wipe cache partition, wipe dalvik cache
2) restore - using stock rom i found online
3) flash stock recovery image using nvflash
4) (attempt to) unroot using superoneclick - AFTER GOING THROUGH MULTIPLE STEPS, IT SAYS "TRUE" UNDER "CHECKING IF ROOTED". (also, i know it is rooted because it says the phone already appears to be rooted when i try to root again).
Do you guys have any idea what the issue could be?

Ever since I flashed my first ROM, my phone will start doing random bootloops. The part that is WEIRD about this, is that it only seems to happen between about midnight and 8am. I'm on my phone a lot during the day and it runs fine. It will occasionally (maybe 2-3 times a week) freeze up and need a battery pull, but it's fine otherwise.
But in the late evening, it will get weird. And there's no real key to what is setting it off. Sometimes it will start a boot loop around 12:30/1:00am but with a battery pull and reboot, it's fine until the next night. Sometimes it will start a boot loop around 6am and it's the same thing. I will occasionally have to try a few times to get it to quit looping, but it seems like once 8am rolls around, it quits.
I'm fairly certain this has to do with the fact I'm running custom ROMS, but what is it that is setting it off? I had this issue with CoreDroid and Honey SmartDroid. It was much worse with CoreDroid, and in reading through that massive thread, it was decided that it just didn't play well with a handful of phones. Some hardware issue. (which made me sad because I loved CoreDroid, but didn't want to risk my phone getting bricked since I'm out of warranty and too close to a renewel to pay the insurance claim) Honey SmartDroid didn't do it the first few nights, but then it started in.
I've tried changing my charging cable (I usually recharge at night, and thought that might be it) as well as not recharging at night. With both ROMs, I did a total wipe and re-installed, letting it run for a few days without any extra apps installed (except for a basic few, such as update to Facebook, Gtask, etc). Nothing that I can think of that changes any of my phone settings during those hours. It does it anyway.
I haven't tried running anything closer to stock ROM for more than a few hours because they honestly bore me now that I've seen how awesome of the other ones are. So I don't know if switching back would solve the boot loop issue. But if I need to do that to prevent damage to my phone, I will. I just want to know what's causing the boot loops and why only during those hours?

Have you tried formatting your sd card and full wipe and reflash rom. Also it is known that when a battery starts to go bad it makes the phone reboot several times on its own. Being it goes into bootloop at night when you are charging phone would give me the impression that the culprit would be the battery.

I haven't tried formatting the sd card. When I do that, do a do a new backup on that sd card? Or just put the ROM zip on the card and go from there? It might be the battery, I hadn't thought about that. I did consider that it might be the charging cable, but it will do it regardless of whether the phone is charging or not. The phone is about a year and a half old, so the battery could well be going on it.
Sorry don't want to sound mean but there is lots of threads that all have this issue with the "random" reboots or I have search all over the place but my "issue" is different.
Look up the title random reboots in this forums or PD98 IMG etc..
I'm sure you will find the issue before yet another reboot thread gets closed..again..

Do a nandroid backup then copy everything on your sd csrd to a folder on your computer then format the card. Then place rom on sd do a full wipe
1. factory wipe
2. cache wipe
3. advance> dalvik wipe

My apologies. I did try to do a search, but that vast majority of the results dealt with ROMs that I'm not running, boot loops that couldn't be stopped, or phones that I don't own. I honestly didn't see any that dealt with a phone that reboots only during certain hours. I understand how frustrating it is to have newbies constantly asking the same questions over and over, which is why I tried to avoid that. I will look up PD98 IMG and see where that gets me, as well as go through the threads from the other ROMs.

Thank you so much for your detailed response. I'll give that a try tonight while I'm also researching the other threads I was told to go through. I'll let you know how it worked out.
No need to say sorry lol...your ok just hate so the new ones get cyber yelled at by some mod and close your thread and not getting your answer.
But even though it maybe not be for the rom that your running but also check out the Q&As of those Roms.
And also I know the htc inspire thread for ROMs is always on top of the game here but just letting you know as well Desire HD forums is I would say you should go for the most recent ROMs and updates etc.. And yes Desire HD can be used for the Htc Inspire so thats where Im at for the most part..
But if you ever get a boot loop form a rom you flash make sure you fully wipe (sorry just funny every time.you will see what I mean) from rom to rom unless other wise...If you still happen to have the PD98IMG file still on your sd card happens when you 1st root and for get that its there delete I use Es File Explorer to find whats on the sd card there are others astro file manager. Also This happen to me once when I flash scripts,gps fix, kernels then the rom that I was going to use and it just totally F'd my phone or re boots random or just gets stuck on the htc screen..

So this is an idea of what I do when I flash a rom and some other ideas/tips.
Getting Started or Flashing A Rom:
Once you root your phone (this is not in any order really) you should get ROM Manager aka Clock Work Mod. Once you get that, open the CWM and the first top half you will see flash clockworkmod recovery make sure your on wifi I would at least for the updates. You will see a dialog box click desire hd. This will allow you to make back ups of your settings that you made when you flash a rom its always a good idea to make your backups its a life save!! So, once you made your back up and this is what I do.. I plug in my phone to the pc switch to disk mode which will let you see whats on your sd card. Since you flash the CWM and recovery you will see on your sd card a folder called clockworkmod open then backups folder you will see you back that you made, drag and drop that backup file that you made to your fold that you made on pc to save it for later. And thats pretty much how I save my backups of roms etc.. Now if you need to load that back up just plug phone in disk mode cwm fold>backup drag and drop back up that you need. And boot into recovery mode and select back up and restore and select restore and the file boot and your good..
I would download which Rom I would like to use. Save it to pc to a folder that I have made that I store all my roms, backups,radios & rils, kernels..etc.. just to keep myself organized. Once you get your rom just drag and drop it to the ROOT of the sd card do NOT add it in any folder thats on the sd card. Once you have it on the card just boot into recovery flash your rom.. Other then that its easy to flash the rom.. And when you get all your settings set up make a back up and when done save it to the pc and delete it from the sd card if you dont want to keep on the card I do that..
When it comes to battery life it depends on what the rom.. But I like to use killers http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...ht=killersolth scripts for the kernels.. For me I always flash a different kernel upon flashing a new rom. For me having the kernel and killers script is the best combo for me to have for performance and battery life.. now since I have inspire I use the uv lites scripts.
For the most part flashing radios & Rils you would never really need to do that so I wouldnt recommend it for now maybe later but read about it its good to know what it does..
Other sides which I for got to add.. When you flash a new rom its always good to wipe user data.,cache, delvik it makes it for a good clean install with other roms..
Also the desire HD thread which the inspire can use the roms from that thread to.

I wanted to update.
This worked great. I followed the instructions and have not had one boot loop or freeze up since. I already hit the "Thanks" button, but I wanted to thank you again for taking time to help out.

What do you mean update what Rom are you using again because if whatever Rom your using in the op should be an update if the dev made one. If I'm not mistaken once your rooted and try to do a system update the phone will freeze up.

On 1/17/13, i recieved the samsung galaxy s blaze 4g, i know it is an old model phone but i've been trying to root this phone.
This is the first phone i have tried to root and i have failed at it, however i did try my best.

I used these two links to try to root my phone, i followed each step by step, did not check anything but "AUTO REBOOT" but i somehow soft bricked my phone.
I have searched the forums multiple times and i found that i have the same problem as this person.

Sometimes, it will get as far as "Setup wizard" but would give me the same error
to think of it, regarding the time when i was rooting, i dont think i had my microsd card in my phone which probably led to the problem, god im such a noob
and as a result i did not complete this step "After downloading all the files first move the Superuser.zip to the root of your sdcard..not internal sdcard but the removable one. Then unzip the Odin zip and once unzipped:

You soft bricked your phone because you are using 4.0.4 as the device now ships with ICS- k0nane's root kernel won't work for ICS. That root method only works for GB. You need to put CWM on your phone to root ICS (flash superuser or supersu zip through CWM). Also once you have CWM on your phone you can flash any ROM -stock or otherwise- to your phone through CWM. The link with the other person having the same issue was resolved...

unfortunately, i am one of those people who literally need step my step instructions and im not too sure you would like to help me through this long process. i have no idea where to start and do i just ignore the google framework error and try to "ROOT" again?

update: I did all of these steps:
((((((((((((((After downloading all the files first move the Superuser.zip to the root of your sdcard..not internal sdcard but the removable one. Then unzip the Odin zip and once unzipped:
Step 1:
Run Odin 1.85.exe, and prepare Odin:
Check "auto-reboot", and uncheck all other options.
Click PDA and select the TAR for clockworkdmod you downloaded. Click PIT and select the Blaze PIT your downloaded.
DOUBLE CHECK THAT YOU HAVE REPARTITION UNCHECKED
Step 2:
Connect the USB cable to your PC, but NOT your device.
Remove the battery.
Reinsert the battery.
Hold down Volume Up + Volume Down
Then while holding the voume keys plug in USB cable
You should now be in Download Mode
Step 3:
Make Sure repartition is still unchecked and click START in Odin.))))))))))))))

Try to boot cwm and factory reset to clear up framework issue. Edit: wipe davlik also (located in advanced) .Yes putting SU zip on your sd card is right. You will need to 'install from SD card' and then choose zip to install to flash su for root. If framework continues to be an issue after factory reset then I would suggest flashing a custom ROM (same flashing process as root normally - read ROM op first!). There are quite a few stock based ROMs that are great. Or you could go straight to JB/cm10. Up to you.. there's so many great ROMs for this device!

Check for superuser or supersu in your app drawer. If either is there (I don't know which one you decided to use) then you are rooted.:good:
wow, thanks a lot, yes I have superuser when I open my apps. This is really more difficult then jailbreaking =p but I would like to ask, what I have to do to get "roms" or "kernels" and "apps" after my device is rooted?
Will changing roms mean I have to re_root?

After flashing a new ROM , just set phone up as usual when it boots up... then just enjoy having a kicka$$ phone no need to re-root.. just read installation of ROM good write it down if you must I did when I first started. Look and shop around there's plenty of great ROMs for this phone

Actually, depending upon what time frame you rooted the idont device, rooting this phone with CWM is SIGNIFICANTLY easier than jailbreaking. Your problems of course, started because you didn't come here in the first place. Had you done that, it would have been a breeze.
As for your question about changing roms and will you have to re-root?
Don't look at it that way...If you want to switch to another rom that is applied through CWM, you're pretty much doing the same process you did when you came here, you're just only selecting the other rom through CWM. Don't forget to reset/wipe through CWM first though!

Titanium backup from play store .. contacts are synced with Google, I never restore apps or data,

is that not extremely tedious, i thought titanium backup only backs up like game data or soemthing.
is there anyway i could backup the apps that i already downloaded through apptoide and google play?
and also i used http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1919228 to root my phone, does that mean i can only download ics 4.0.4 roms and kernels? (do i download roms and kernels serperately?)

if your rooted on ICS u can flash anything in cwm. For a daily driver I use cm 10, bug free. There's also slim bean, aokp, pacman, paranoid android.
Whatever you choose create a backup first in cwm, than flash ROM, than gapps, than factory reset/wipe cache/ in advanced wipe delvik. Reboot and give it time to boot. I would also recommend a launched such as nova or holo. They will allow u to backup your home screen and drawer preferances , and hide apps. Google can automatically redownload all your apps minus any save data. Tb can be a pain when switching roms, not all apps will work coming from ICS to jelly bean. Make sure and be safe, go ahead and write down all your contacts before flashing. I've flashed jb on three different phones and lost the contacts each time. After the initial flash of jb , flashing updates and such you won't lose any contacts as long as they are synced with Google. Happy flashing

if your rooted you grab the zip from here http://get.cm/?device=t769 , now you need the gapps or known as your Google app pack you can find those in the blaze bible. Once both are downloaded, reboot into cwm. Now flash the cm 10 zip ( go for the newest one the stable is quite old and missing some features) once it completes flash the gapps zip. Now do a factory reset, now wipe cache, last wipe delvik. Once you've done these steps reboot your phone. Now be patient and wait. It can take in some cases 10 mins to completely boot. If everything was done correctly you will be greeted with a setup prompt. Enjoy
