Ever since I flashed my first ROM, my phone will start doing random bootloops. The part that is WEIRD about this, is that it only seems to happen between about midnight and 8am. I'm on my phone a lot during the day and it runs fine. It will occasionally (maybe 2-3 times a week) freeze up and need a battery pull, but it's fine otherwise.
But in the late evening, it will get weird. And there's no real key to what is setting it off. Sometimes it will start a boot loop around 12:30/1:00am but with a battery pull and reboot, it's fine until the next night. Sometimes it will start a boot loop around 6am and it's the same thing. I will occasionally have to try a few times to get it to quit looping, but it seems like once 8am rolls around, it quits.
I'm fairly certain this has to do with the fact I'm running custom ROMS, but what is it that is setting it off? I had this issue with CoreDroid and Honey SmartDroid. It was much worse with CoreDroid, and in reading through that massive thread, it was decided that it just didn't play well with a handful of phones. Some hardware issue. (which made me sad because I loved CoreDroid, but didn't want to risk my phone getting bricked since I'm out of warranty and too close to a renewel to pay the insurance claim) Honey SmartDroid didn't do it the first few nights, but then it started in.
I've tried changing my charging cable (I usually recharge at night, and thought that might be it) as well as not recharging at night. With both ROMs, I did a total wipe and re-installed, letting it run for a few days without any extra apps installed (except for a basic few, such as update to Facebook, Gtask, etc). Nothing that I can think of that changes any of my phone settings during those hours. It does it anyway.
I haven't tried running anything closer to stock ROM for more than a few hours because they honestly bore me now that I've seen how awesome of the other ones are. So I don't know if switching back would solve the boot loop issue. But if I need to do that to prevent damage to my phone, I will. I just want to know what's causing the boot loops and why only during those hours?
Thanks!
Have you tried formatting your sd card and full wipe and reflash rom. Also it is known that when a battery starts to go bad it makes the phone reboot several times on its own. Being it goes into bootloop at night when you are charging phone would give me the impression that the culprit would be the battery.

I haven't tried formatting the sd card. When I do that, do a do a new backup on that sd card? Or just put the ROM zip on the card and go from there? It might be the battery, I hadn't thought about that. I did consider that it might be the charging cable, but it will do it regardless of whether the phone is charging or not. The phone is about a year and a half old, so the battery could well be going on it.
Sorry don't want to sound mean but there is lots of threads that all have this issue with the "random" reboots or I have search all over the place but my "issue" is different.
Look up the title random reboots in this forums or PD98 IMG etc..
I'm sure you will find the issue before yet another reboot thread gets closed..again..
If you have done that and still have issue pm me if u want ..good luck

Do a nandroid backup then copy everything on your sd csrd to a folder on your computer then format the card. Then place rom on sd do a full wipe
1. factory wipe
2. cache wipe
3. advance> dalvik wipe
4. go back> wipe phone partitions (except sd card)
then flash rom see if that helps if you still have the issue then cheapest route would be replace battery which I think is your culprit. Good luck.
Your rom backup will be located in the clockworkmod folder in case you have any issues.

My apologies. I did try to do a search, but that vast majority of the results dealt with ROMs that I'm not running, boot loops that couldn't be stopped, or phones that I don't own. I honestly didn't see any that dealt with a phone that reboots only during certain hours. I understand how frustrating it is to have newbies constantly asking the same questions over and over, which is why I tried to avoid that. I will look up PD98 IMG and see where that gets me, as well as go through the threads from the other ROMs.
Thank you for your help.

Thank you so much for your detailed response. I'll give that a try tonight while I'm also researching the other threads I was told to go through. I'll let you know how it worked out.
No need to say sorry lol...your ok just hate so the new ones get cyber yelled at by some mod and close your thread and not getting your answer.
But even though it maybe not be for the rom that your running but also check out the Q&As of those Roms.
And also I know the htc inspire thread for ROMs is always on top of the game here but just letting you know as well Desire HD forums is I would say you should go for the most recent ROMs and updates etc.. And yes Desire HD can be used for the Htc Inspire so thats where Im at for the most part..
But if you ever get a boot loop form a rom you flash make sure you fully wipe (sorry just funny every time.you will see what I mean) from rom to rom unless other wise...If you still happen to have the PD98IMG file still on your sd card happens when you 1st root and for get that its there delete I use Es File Explorer to find whats on the sd card there are others astro file manager. Also This happen to me once when I flash scripts, gps fix, kernels then the rom that I was going to use and it just totally F'd my phone or re boots random or just gets stuck on the htc screen..
But I had made this post for another user (new) maybe this may help:
So this is an idea of what I do when I flash a rom and some other ideas/tips.
Getting Started or Flashing A Rom:
Once you root your phone (this is not in any order really) you should get ROM Manager aka Clock Work Mod. Once you get that, open the CWM and the first top half you will see flash clockworkmod recovery make sure your on wifi I would at least for the updates. You will see a dialog box click desire hd. This will allow you to make back ups of your settings that you made when you flash a rom its always a good idea to make your backups its a life save!! So, once you made your back up and this is what I do.. I plug in my phone to the pc switch to disk mode which will let you see whats on your sd card. Since you flash the CWM and recovery you will see on your sd card a folder called clockworkmod open then backups folder you will see you back that you made, drag and drop that backup file that you made to your fold that you made on pc to save it for later. And thats pretty much how I save my backups of roms etc.. Now if you need to load that back up just plug phone in disk mode cwm fold>backup drag and drop back up that you need. And boot into recovery mode and select back up and restore and select restore and the file boot and your good..
I would download which Rom I would like to use. Save it to pc to a folder that I have made that I store all my roms, backups, radios & rils, kernels..etc.. just to keep myself organized. Once you get your rom just drag and drop it to the ROOT of the sd card do NOT add it in any folder thats on the sd card. Once you have it on the card just boot into recovery flash your rom.. Other then that its easy to flash the rom.. And when you get all your settings set up make a back up and when done save it to the pc and delete it from the sd card if you dont want to keep on the card I do that..
When it comes to battery life it depends on what the rom.. But I like to use killers http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...ht=killersolth scripts for the kernels.. For me I always flash a different kernel upon flashing a new rom. For me having the kernel and killers script is the best combo for me to have for performance and battery life.. now since I have inspire I use the uv lites scripts.
For the most part flashing radios & Rils you would never really need to do that so I wouldnt recommend it for now maybe later but read about it its good to know what it does..
Other sides which I for got to add.. When you flash a new rom its always good to wipe user data.,cache, delvik it makes it for a good clean install with other roms..
Also the desire HD thread which the inspire can use the roms from that thread to.
Well I hope this helps you in any way.. if you need help PM me best of luck
SORRY FOR SUCH A LONG POST HAHA
Sooooooooo if you had ?s about Roms or Scripts,GPS not locking on after rom flashing,KERNELS (are my fav) let me know PM me

What do you mean update what Rom are you using again because if whatever Rom your using in the op should be an update if the dev made one. If I'm not mistaken once your rooted and try to do a system update the phone will freeze up.

if this is in the wrong area im sorry i just need to know my buddy used ace kit to root my phone and it went fine then we updated rom manager and did a backup on there. then he flashed cm7 not sure which one but it was took one that said stable. now my phone is just booting cyanogen mod7 over and over. what should i do? am i screwed? sorry im new and i thought i had help but he doesent know lol.
pull the battery for like 30 sec. put it back in now hold volume down button while you press the power button the phone will go into bootloader. it will search for pd98img. once it does you will see option that says recovery click on recovery. once there do a factory wipe then restore your backup. once it boots then retry cm7 but you need to wipe the phone goin g from a sense rom to aosp . also look in the general section of inspire forums., there is a stickie that explains all about this kind of stuff
t just keeps having the cm7 bootscreen over and over again been like 20 minutes and i cant figure out if i should pull battery? am i screwed? please anyone help a poor inspire user
thanks i will try that does it take longer then 20 minutes for first boot on cm7?

no ten minutes is pretty normal. if its bootlooping usually your phone will try to load past the boot animation then reeboot instantly
Take your sd card out and put cm7 and gapps on it then put it back in, mind you while the phone is off.
Pull the battery, reinsert it, power on w/ volume dn+ power button as instructed. Let it go through the search process, when you're presented the option to select recovery, do so at that time. Once in Clockwork Mod, select wipe data/factory reset, now select install zip, select the rom and flash it, once it's done flash gapps then reboot.
All should be well in your world...
sorry confused about one thing when i hold volume down and power then click recovery do i pick backup/restore and use my backup or do i do factory wipe to get back to how i was before i flashed? sorry for the newbishness
i just want to go back to the way it was right after root till i figure out what he did wrong
factory wipe first that will wipe all of cm7 stuff off of there then restore your backup
I dont use rom manager i seem to always have problems with it just find a rom here you like.(i use virtuous unity ) download it move it to the root of your sd card and then wipe and flash it in recovery. if you like the stock look try leedroid or rumrunner there both very stable roms as well
Thank you guys so much im back to sense and without the helpless help from my buddy i will read alittle before i flash again. Thanks Again you saved a very happy Inspire 4g user!
no problem. but dont let it discourage you ive been boot looped more than once. best thing you can do is read, read, read.

Don't forget to wipe dalvik cache every time your flash roms or any major system file for that matter
If I restore from backup and then put in a new SD card I just got then I can just stick new SD card in right? It do I need to transfer stuff cause of the goldcard?
Str8, unless you like running an outdated build, I suggest you move up to the latest nightly. It has quite a few features that the stable build doesn't and is stable itself. It's all I ever use.
Hey guys,
Just want to say again how awesome this forums is. I have a Sprint Shift that I flashed 2 weeks ago with CM7 and it has been nice and stable, love it.
However, I have an issue now. It seems that my signal has gotten very poor and often switches to roaming and then back and is still worse in the same areas where I was pre-flashing and rooting.
Does rooting and flashing affect the PRL at all (I had to downgrade etc...)?
And how can I easily upgrade to the latest PRL? I am not interested in the Verizon PRL since I don't want to get kicked off for excessive roaming.
I searched some posts and the process seemed confusing and one talked of a different program that makes it easier but never went into details.
Would really appreciate some help. Thank you.

Make a nandroid backup of your CM7 rom. Flash a stock sense rom like Synergy and update your prl and profile. Sometimes I do it twice just to make sure Make sure you are updated to the latest radio's both wimax and cellular radio's before you update your prl though.
When you downgrade with root it's flashing older radio's onto your device including wimax radio.
Next restore cm7 nandroid backup, hope that helps.

Thanks guys. I did read that thread but I'm not sure what a Nandroid backup is.
Is that form the boot screen from the clockwork app? It just backs everything up to the SD card?
Now when I flash to the Synergy ROM do I have to follow the same steps I did for CM7? Like clear the caches and all those steps that I followed when I installed CM7?
Lastly, how can I make sure to update to the latest radio??
Thank you so much for your help guys, I was beginning to think that Sprint started to suck and that I Would have to switch carriers.
Also, I am having trouble figuring out which radio to flash. CDMA or Wimax? Is this something that I do when I reload synergy or flash after I load CM7 again?
But mostly I don't know which version to download. Thanks so much for your help in advance.
I was using this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1357157
Im surprised there is no similar how-to on radios and PRL

You make a nandroid backup in recovery, it's the backup option in the backup/restore menu. It will make a complete backup of your current ROM and can be restored on the same menu.
Whenever you flash a fresh ROM you need to fully wipe. Wiping cache, dalvik and data.. Optionally formatting system and data.
For the radios check this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1082192
Sent from my PG06100 using Tapatalk
Yeah basicly what crump said. Just make sure before flashing the radio's in hboot/bootloader that you wipe cache/dalvik-cache in recovery or just do a data factory wipe. When I installed the radio's it was before a lot of knew that not wiping cache and dalvik-cache could make it so your phone won't boot, so I just ended up having to pull my sdcard out in order to boot into recovery to wipe. As soon as I wiped I powered off my phone, put my sdcard back in and it booted justed just fine.
Thanks so much guys!
So I just checked the PRL on my phone and it is already the latest PRL... So it must be the older radios that are causing the issue?
So can I just flash the new radios right now with the current CM7 rom that I have?
Would I still need to clear the cache etc.. if it's possible to do it to my existing rom?
Also, do I select from Froyo-Based RUUs or Gingerbread RUUs?
Thanks again everyone
And just a heads up, you can't update prl using synergy rom, as the feature doesn't work properly...

You should be able to update with your current Rom. The most recent Radios are for CDMA: 1.08.00.0506 , and for WiMax: 27240. Just make sure you follow the instructions on the thread.
And if your still stuck while reading the instructions there is a video in the development section. Can't link you to it cause I'm on my phone

Followed the video everything went smooth, pressed power to reboot after everything got updated.
Now my phone is stuck at the HTC Screen! Help, I don't know what happened or what to do, I followed all the instructions exactly! I cant use my phone!
Nevermind guys, I panicked but kept reading. Saw someone post this

That's why I said both here and in the radio thread that I did a data factory reset before flashing the radios. It doesn't seem like wiping cache's always helps to avoid getting stuck on the splash screen, having to pull battery and sdcard ect.

Flashing radios will screw up your boot. Definitely need to wipe /system, and more importantly format /cache partition via advanced -> mounts and storage in CWM, as well as dalvik and reflash your rom after flashing either the Wimax or cellular radios. I've gotten stuck at the white HTC screen a billion times. Might even want to try booting up with a blank SD card or a different SD card. It seems that my SD card has some corruption because when I plug my phone in via usb or via sd card reader windows asks to scan the sd card. So I plan on formatting my SD card soon. But either way I was stuck at the white HTC screen after flashing my radio and tried everything and it didn't start booting my rom until I put in a blank SD card.
Also regarding PRLs: I'm back on PRL 60683 and off of 11115. I think I'll be staying here.

Did you try any other ROMs and noticed similar behavior?
If you use Google voice it will cause that. Make sure when you first reinstall a rom don't add any apps... run it and see if its laggy. If not install your apps you always use one at a time... if after installing one Ans you notice lag you got your culprit. GV used to do this to my aria

then flash stock gingerbread
factory reset your phone
then flash the kernal in the same thread
(format your external sd in your pc, then put it back in your phone and format it with your phone)
remember to back up things on the phone, then move them over to your pc before you start this process, because EVERYTHING on your phone will be wiped
then flash a rom again, from this clean of a state it should fix pretty much anything.

Hello Elegancia dev team.
First and foremost, I want to say thanks for a very nice ROM.
After the last 3 or 4 updates a problem has occured. The phone has begun to turn off spontaneously. It is worst when there are approximately 50% power left. It lies on the table and turns off by itself. It also happens, when it is in my pocket. It takes me about 3 attempts to turn it on again. Sometimes I have to take out the battery and when I insert it again, the phone turns on rather quickly and problem has been solved for a couple of days. After 2 days I am back to square one.
I have tried both kernels ie 1.2 and 1.6 HTZ and it is the same problem.
I hope it is something that can be solved.
It's Sense 3.6, which has the problem.
Sorry it is not written in the right thread, but the dev. thread is locked for me.
Does anyone know what to do?

You could try a different ROM to see if that helps. If not, then it's mostly a hardware problem.
Hi Doc!
Did you update just by flashing the newest version over the last each and everytime?
If yes you should try to Superwipe your phone and start fresh without any added applications then those included with the ROM. Superwipe, install and let 10-15 mins for your phone to settle before rebooting and then start configuring your phone.
Do the basics first your email account, not more and let see if your phone will replicate this issue.
You can flash this Superwipe just before flashing a fresh version of Elegancia 3.7.6 Don't forget to verify the MD5 : 6a88266c3c6cb664d305a4e101c566ae
I will try to follow you in the resolution of your problem.
Try different roms with stock kernel. Sounds like hardware to me

Hi Doc!
Did you update just by flashing the newest version over the last each and everytime?

hi Lucky Thirteen
I have superwiped a couple of times, it remains the same.
I have followed the instructions everytime when flashing a new update. When the phone is updated I let it settle for 10-15 min before rebooting
I'm not sure how or where to check the DM5 no. Can you please tell my how and where?
Regards Morten

Hi Doc!
Yes you need 10 messages before being able to post in the dev thread.
Which kernel did you tried with your ROM? Bricked? Faux123? SebastianFM? Did you try a stock ROM just to see if the problem is still the same? Have you done a data restoration with Titanium Backup? Or Nandroid? Did you try to install a previous ROM that you know your phone was running great with? Is your phone excessively hot? Or the battery?
What is a MD5 checksum?
A checksum MD5 is not aimed at guaranteeing the provenance of a file or a group of files. His interest is to allow the check on the integrity of recovered data.In fact, no one is sheltered by a disturbance or by a network problem have the effect the corruption of an archive in the course of downloading.

When you download a file generally the emitter give to users a MD5 hash like the one in my previous post. Now, to check the MD5 checksum you need a small program like this one . It's real easy and takes generally less than a minute to do, you paste the MD5 provided with the file you just downloaded in the appropriate box, then you Browse to the file you want to check, if the result is a perfect match, your file is not corrupted and good to use. It is valuable habit to take, it can save you to bricked your phone with a corrupted file.
Use this stock rom (rooted) to bring your phone back to life ....Than you can flash any other custom rom
Stock rom HERE
You do know how to flash pg58img ?
EDIT
On second thought, you should also format your SD....
so mate
1.Backup your documents...pic ...music.... on your pc
2.Go to recovery and FORMAT SD
3.Toggle USB...and transfer pg58img on sd
4.Open power menu----> reboot in bootloader
5.Follow the instruction on (phone) screen
If this is still happening after doing the great advice already given to you then you might have a corrupt file on your sd card so if you have another sd card insert it and try to do a clean flash and start from scratch. Do not restore your data (apps and system data) as you may have files that are causing these issues on your device.
When you load your apps back on only put back the apps you have to have on the device and run it for a while and see if the problem goes away, continue this until you have all the apps back on the device.
If you have flashed other ROMs and it is still happening and flashed other kernels but your device is still having these issues the next step is to clear your sd card and start with a completely clean device. If this doesn't fix the problem then you may have a problem with hardware possible the power button.
If you are going to clean (format) your sd card make sure to back-up your pics and vids then after you are done transfer the ROM you are going to flash back onto the sd card and flash away. Problems like these usually can be solved they just take time and energy.
If you need to flash the firmware like dublinz said then after it has flashed and it asked you to reboot take the sd card out put into your laptop and erase the " pg58img " then put the sd card back in and then reboot. If you forget to delete the " pg58img " then the device goes into a boot loop.
Good luck
drew
OP, after I flashed from 4.2 to 4.3 I was having the same issue. After a few charges it stopped doing it. I'm not sure if this will be the case for you but just thought you should know.

Yes you did something wrong. Pull the battery and boot back into recovery. Then do a full wipe and reflash.

Hey welcome to XDA so just so info about what your asking that I made a reply for someone else so give this a read and see what you think..
Now it goes for the same setup of making up a backup with 4ext.
