I'm very surprised to see the Shift's source is already released. That was released at most like a month ago.
Hopefully they follow that path with the Inspire.
it does say Desire HD in the settings on the phone though. Hm. Time will tell I guess.

Actually the Shift source code has been out for quite a while (I would say almost as long as the Shift has been out). The first 3 items in the list are the new ones that were released today.

Yeah, but the Inspire's kernel is different due to audio.

Ah gotcha. Thanks for clearing that up.

Since HTC released source codes

Since HTC released the codes today does that mean roms for the inspire will start coming because its coded the desire hd?

Nope unless they use Apache14's snazzy new kernel designed for both phones.
Source for the Insipre hasn't dropped yet. It has different sound hardware than the DHD
that source was for the inspire. Thats how the new sense kernels for the inspire are out. As far as cm7 there is more to it.

Well that's just awesome then
Yuuup can't wait to see what the devs come up with. Think buzz already made something with this kernel right?

No, the INSPIRE source was not released. Just the Desire HD. Different sources

The inspire is a variant of the desirehd just a different name with a few different pieces inside. The source released today was for it.
Yeah, if you look at our QMD source, it now supports all the desire HD variants (the only real difference was the audio chip to start with)

How long does HTC have to release kernel source?

According the Linux license (GNU?)???
I'm pretty sure there is a time frame, correct?
I don't think they have any time according to the license. But who's going to sue? We all have the right to I believe

I wasn't asking for legal purposes... more so because HTC has a good relationship with the dev community, so I figure they wouldn't go past the time frame. I swear I heard time frames being thrown around when Android was in its earlier stages and kernel sources were released.

According to GPL, they have 90-120 days to release the kernel source. Now, the problem lies in that we don't know exactly what date HTC started counting from. They could've started counting from the release of the Rogers One X, or the release of the international One XL, or the release of the ATT One X.

Should be by the end of August they would have to go by the first released which was Rogers in March I think.

Actually according to the GPL source has to be released simultaneously with the software release.

Correct. Kernel source, per the license, must be released at the time a device is available with that kernel.
Other source, from Apache license, is different. But we only care about kernel source. Mostly, at least.

Kernel source has just been released it looks like!
NOW *****ES. Well... A few hours ago

HTC in violation of GPL

Complain to HTC that once again they are in violation of the GPL. For some reason they think that they are allowed to pull this nonsense. The GPL clearly states that kernel source must be released day 1 that the accompanying Rom is released or before. We need to put some effort into this issue. Personally I have pursued this with HTC and gpl-violations.org, but we need many others to do the same if we want this to change. Make some noise people!

Anyone who wants HTC to release kernel source in a timely fashion and not 90-120 days later can email the above with a complaint.

Well a lot of constructors do so, in France an ISP used GPL stuff for years and they released source code when they renewed their hardware which means years later
