[ROM-Dev]Else Intuition - Hero CDMA Android Development

Hey guys,
I need developers who are dedicated and willing to help startup this Else Intuition port to the HTC Hero Community. Is anyone currently working on this? If not, let's get started!
Take a look at this.....

interesting. is there a ROM out?

I remember looking at that last year.

anyone know of any developers willing to help port??...

No there isn't a ROM out that I know of. Still researching trying to get a source or something...lol

Dude, then why are you trying to rally devs? lol Get the source first.

This is just a youtube link lol, its impossible to even attempt porting without having anything to port.
This is still experimental so I don't think we will get our hands on it any time soon. If it really is a Linux based OS and we get the source, a port is probably possible.

Most are convinced its vaporware... you can't port anything without something to port it from.

[Q] Porting the Honeycomb sdk - am i on the right track?

I understand that the sdk is nowhere near full featured, but now there are system dumps of the xoom, maybe helpful, right?
Well, i have never ported nor built a ROM before (done some theming and have no problem learning code). I came across these 2 port how-tos:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11546129&postcount=76
http://android-dls.com/wiki/index.php?title=HOWTO:_Unpack,_Edit,_and_Re-Pack_Boot_Images
Is that all i really need to get HC to boot? The instructions seem extensive but not impossible or difficult.
Has anyone attempted this or gotten HC to boot on the g-tablet? I'm willing to take a crack at it if a dev could tell me whether i'm on the right track with the tutorials or do i need more knowledge.
When it comes to ROM building/porting, i gotta start somewhere. I've been around these forums for years and its about time I attempt to return the favor (hopefully without bricking my device lol)
Thanks in advance.
If this post needs to be moved, i'm sorry mods, but i figured this is strictly a development question.
Feel free to attempt it. There are people working on it and have come to the conclusion that source is needed plus a couple files from nvidia.
IMO porting the sdk is a complete waste of time tho. You would be much better starting off with a rom that will compile like froyo rather than starting with something that doesnt work yet

thanks for the insight. You're right, maybe froyo would be a good place to start so i could get used to the process on something that will compile. I'll probably give it shot in the next couple of days.
jump on the irc channel. freenode channel #tegratab. Lots of help and a willingness to help those that want to learn. I've compiled cm7 several times myself. Not my cup of tea but it was interesting.

Development Coming Soon? (AndroidSpin Posted My Article, Skilled Dev Willing to help)

I've been trying my hardest contacting many people to get development started with this phone. Since not many Experienced Devs would be looking the way of this phone i've been trying to reach out.
I Contacted AndroidSpin as well and they are very well known android news site (which i check everyday) and managed to get an article out about helping with development with our phone (awsome, thanks AndroidSpin!) See the Article Here
Hopefully in the Near future we will have a working recovery and ROMs/Mods/Themes Rolling out. A Very experienced Dev has Contacted me Back Saying he is Willing to Help but nothing is promised as he doesnt have a Sidekick 4G at hand. But he is willing to make a working recovery for us so lets see what happens .
He will Definitely need testers.. i will be one ofcourse hope others are interested in seeing development stir up over here aswell !
nice to hear about.....i have been checked this 4rum everyday to looking for a news but still......hopefully something will come out soon....:x im willing to be the tester for this as well.....
I just want to say thank you to all of you working on this. As a former Hiptop user and open-source enthusiast, I took issue with the closed platform that Danger had installed on it and ended up ditching it. When I heard the new Sidekicks would be running Android I jumped at the chance to have one, only to find out that development was lacking interest due to the stigma of the old Hiptops as phones for teenagers. It's wonderful to see more people getting interested in this and I hope to help as much as I can in the future. Thank everyone again and happy hacking to you all!
willing to help
I'm very interested in getting development going for this phone as well, I don't have the time or the skill set to cook roms myself but I am more than willing to test and give feedback. I know a lot of devs aren't interested since they spent last year with the galaxy s line of phones and there are new dual cores to play with, but I think this phone is really unique and could definitely have a big following because of the fact that it is soo different than the sea of slabs out there. I hope development picks up, there are plenty of custom roms out there already built for the galaxy s line that would only need to be tweaked to work with this device so hopefully that picks up soon.
I'm very interested in helping with development, came from the G1 and had fun with that. I was trying to figure out how to compile ClockworkMod but because Samsung uses initRamFS rather than a regular makefile, I was unable to figure it out. I'm very open to testing and trying to help as best I can with developing on this phone, feel free to e-mail me if anyone has any need to test anything, I'm always checking my e-mail. sduvick AT gmail.com. For those who understand the compiling of clockworkmod, I would suggest working from the Vibrant version, as the buttons are all mapped right, we just need to add the storage driver so that the sdcard can be mounted.
I would love to be a tester please keep me posted.

+Thanks.
I'm still stock and would be willing to help some dev's

[idea]Support for a developer who would take care of developing O3D (pro)

I know someone is developing cm7 on our device. Maybe there is a way to motivate dev to get fully functional cm7 and cm9, and the most beloved miui in the end. (when there will be CM maybe the miui team will get interested in our device)
So maybe support some devs financially to make things happen and push the development forward.
What do you think?
I´m in. I have no idea on how difficult is to port all 3D stuff to CM7, but I know one thing: we´re talking about an API that only the O3D uses so far, and I have no consistent info about other devices using it in the future.
So, for now, all the effort to fully support the Real3D API is something that will not be used for any other phone, which is not good considering anything else done in CM is shared among several devices.
Given all this, I completely agree an extra incentive will be appropriate.
And I go beyond that: if we really donate, I would love to see some docs, how to´s, or at least a log of the daily work. CM development all a mistery for me, and I´m very interested in learning how this stuff work.
I am in, I have already donated to cyanogen mod website but will donate again directly to the person taking care of the nightlies releases.
feels guilty using without paying
I'm just wondering how to organize it? Should we contact to the person which actually ports cyanogen to our devices or maybe make some contest for the willing to earn some money developers ?
Should we set some goal to which amount of money we must collect.. But first the dev must appear and his paypal account that we sent money to.
Any person willing to organize things? Maybe some moderator who wants to cooperate? Some announcement would be helpful...

want a fully working cm or MIUI asap and don't care about the expenses? find tripnraver and buy him an o3d. you will have MIUI at least really really fast. I can contact him if you want to see if he is interested... He did an excellent job with MIUI on the x10 when we had only eclair available and locked bootloader and the like and he is the one who ported the bravia engine to another phone for the first time (the x10) only a week after arc rom was dumped... he then bought an htc sensation and ported MIUI to them within a week... he is awesome dev though a bit touchy with people using his work in other roms...
Yes, please ask him if he's interested. Maybe we would buy him a phone, what do you think ppl? Miui i one of the best and probably the fastest ROM ever.

ok will do as soon as i get a chance.that means most likely tonight. if you head over to the sensation forums over at modaco you wilm see what i mean. he has like 8-9 different roms going on and his tripnmiui is also mentioned-included in the official miui site though he is not part of the miui team... he is a one man army...
I think the most important point is Real3D porting. Arcee already made clear he´s not going to port it in his CM7 work.
If we´re going to create some "incentive" for someone to have CM and/or MIUI for the O3D, it´s important to discuss beforehand about having Real3D ported, otherwise it´s not worth, in my opinion.
maybe we can collect some money and give it to the developer who give us a fully functionaly rom

We should ask if it's possible to port this whole 3d stuff, as he is experienced he will know such thing and give the answer.
Topic died?
nope I just still cannot get a hold on finding him. seems he is mostly on when i am offline and vice versa.... when i reach him i will let you know. Or you could head over to androidmodaco sensation forums and ask him yourself if you see him online. Name is TriNRaVeR and he has like 6-7 active rom threads there...
update: contacted tripnraver today(finally) and he said he will do some studying on the matter and come back to me but he needs to know what we need as he will most likely have time to dev only one rom for us (he prefers doing MIUI in general) and he will need a phone to work on so we will have to find a way of getting him one. he doesnt mind porting proprietary code so he will of course port real 3d to his rom (he did that with bravia engine which he pulled out of an early arc test phone. he was the first to do that btw). Only thing he always demands is that people ask him before using his work on other roms and when they do give him due credits. And of course all his work will be posted on AndroidModaco as he wants nothing to do with this here site for his own reasons.... basically we need to make sure what we need and find out how to get his hands on an o3d

I am ready to donate some also...
For me miui would be fine, don't know if it's ok with the others.
So we must have (his) pay pal account to send some money. I hope there are enough ppl who want to contribute. And how much costs optimus 3d where he lives..
ill send money if us thrill users can get a working port
Sent from my LG Thrill 4G...
Are there any HW differences between these two? Or just basebands? Different modems? Gsm vs cdma?
Sorry for the newbie question, but isn´t necessary to have a fully working CM before building MIUI? In other words: isn´t MIUI derived from CM?
If so, he will need to first work on a CM version, and only then go for MIUI, instead of directly going for a MIUI ROM...

in what i have seen from his developing for the x10 back then he ported miui from scratch. but even so we have nightlies so he takes that, fixes bugs, ports real3d and delivers the package and you can count on his keeping us supported afterwards. plus no need to get him a brand new o3d just a working one so he can work.... but i still need to hear news from him. said he needs some time to do his.homework first cause never had an lg(well he never had an htc either but when he bought sensation he delivered an almost perfect MIUI within one and a half week kernel included
edit: he lives in netherland btw. and you can check his works in androidmodaco sensation forums if interested...
I am ready to donate..

I'm attempting Devving :p

Well as of now I'm attempting to port this Rom from the Inspire. I know its fine because the Rom is apart of AOKP (Android Open KANG Project) So far...I'm yet to get it booting as this is my First Rom...Blue6IX has been really great to me with his amazing guides scattered in pretty much one Mother-of-All-Threads
So know promises but hope for an Booting Alpha soon. If you know anything that can assist me (guides, techniques etc) please PM me or post below. Btw I will be editing this thread for updates on my progress.
Awesome, we can always use another Dev.
that would be great, the screenshots of that ROM look really slick! if you can catch jkilo, he could probably help ya, and in general you'd probably get some pointers in the IRC. good luck, and have fun!
Maybe eventually you can get CM9 booting on our device.
Yes lol...have actually been trying to catch him on the irc servers...no luck
(PDF will open once link is clicked) A porting AOSP guide.

lol where...?
@xmc wildchild...pm me when you get a chance. I can give u all tools needed to compile code. Build code. Etc etc. Let me know if you need any help.
We already have a 'getting started with doubleshot' guide/sticky thread. Would it be a really good idea to have one for devving for this device too?
We have really few devs around here and I know our devs went through a lot to get where they are right now, but the quickest way to share the basics on this would be to have a basic getting started with devving for the mt4gs guide.
It would reduce the number of PMs devs have to deal with too and give more time to work on their roms. It would also be a nice avenue to share ways to fix common bugs/problems with the device during the dev process, for those willing to share their knowlegde.
I know there's something like this somewhere on XDA, but I think with the number of devs we have around it would be a great idea to have a personalised one for this device.
I hope this isn't to much to ask for.

i would like this

WebOS ?

how about porting webos guys ? the source code was released just recently, so therefor there are no restrictions anymore !
i'd love to help with porting, if i knew where to begin . i guess the first step would to get the sources, set the environment up, build/ compile and then roll. but it's what i do afterwards, when i'm supposed to "roll", and actually modify some code and do some actual porting.
anyways, it would be great if somebody could port it, i'm gonna give it a shot but i'm likely to end up nowhere ...

Just curious, why would you want WebOS? Android beats the heck out of it IMHO. I don't think that any developer would spend time on porting it because there are so many other things to work on in Android for this device. Just my 2c.
It does have some nice features, but nothing you can't get from Android with a theme and a few widgets, plus you get all the apps of the google market vs the dead webos app scene.
Well, the idea would be to help jumpstart the WebOS scene again.
Sure, Android may be better supported, but someone would use WebOS. Heck, I'd give it a shot if it worked well enough. Always good to have options.
There is nothing wrong with WebOS aside from the lack of apps. Although, the lack of apps is a huge drawback. Even when the HP Touchpad price dropped to $99, everyone bought it up hoping to get Android running on it.
