2.2 update - Captivate General

Finally got "official" 2.2 Froyo.
*app will not allow me to post screenshot
Quadrant Benchmark Test actually clocks Captivate at 909 mhz w/ 2.2 Update. Processed 60 FPS on 3D graphics. Pretty impressed overall with new features. Only issues known is that every once in a blue moon the Notification Bar will get stuck at the top of the screen. Not that bad of a problem. **Update will un-root aka take away Super User Permisson over phone. But you can use one-click-root method again.

There is no official Froyo for captivate yet.... no idea what you are talking about.
But this site always sees brand new users posting junk.

One click root doesn't work on Froyo, in my experience. Lies!! lol

Samsung firmware world. Google it. Not on samsung website. Its not an official release yet. And it does not fix gps. It helps a little but really not worth it. Just be patient and wait till september when it becomes official. That's probably your best bet. I am running it currently and not impressed really, plus there are issues with apps missing after updating.

I really don't know what the fuss is about. i don't use my gps that much but i did the quick gps fix and it seems to work fine. it finds me in seconds and locks in. i don't lose the signal anything. I think maybe setting are not set correctly. who knows who cares. no need gps. google maps is just fine for me to look up stuff. I just want Froyo. It be so nice. For now stock android is fine too.
Edit: Try this new firmware just released this morning. Maybe there is a fiix. I haven't flashed it yet. I phone is all mummy-fied. Just applied the phantom-skinz and wrapped it with white tape. I will try it later this evening though. I want to know what is new on the new rom.

Also, look before asking. Do some research - the info is here if you read some threads.

Epic 4G Official Froyo Release

Is anyone talking about this in the Captivate forum? Could this mean our update is soon? Anyone plan on porting it over?
I don't think it would work. cdma vs gsm, etc.
Sent from my Captivate
I am full of envy
Anyway it was 2.2.1, not 2.2 as leaks.
Might be our official froyo also 2.2.1?
The galaxyssupport on twitter has been consistent in saying these updates will be out before the end of december. I was in doubt but now I am confident that we well see captivate update soon.

I "thought" it was on one of the blogs I follow (IE.. Engadget, Gizmodo, AndroidandMe, and Androidspin)
Well at least it means our phones should (keyword being should) follow soon with a new Froyo update.
Surprised that they were first to get it... and that it was 2.2.1!
Can we maybe dissect the url to find our update url when it becomes active? Here's the utal and my projected path...
http://android.clients.google.com/p...0/1506bdf2e04b.update-SPH-D700_DI18toDK28.zip
What I have reasoned thus far: ("?" Indicates what I don't know)
http://android.clients.google.com/packages/ota/at&t_samsung_i897/ ? .update-SPH-I897_JH7toJK??.zip
Could someone look up the JH7 update url and look at the url path between "...samsung_i897/ and .update..."? Hopefully it would be the same...
[edit] after looking at my signature from this app, the "SPH"'s above might actually be "SGH" ...

Unless I am mistaken, bluetooth voice dialing is not a native function of froyo, it is included in a google app that is only compatible with froyo. As with all google apps, carriers can choose whether or not to include it. If it is not pre-installed, it can be downloaded from the market.

Trust me, it's not Froyo. As has been stated a ton of times, it's just AT&T sending out batches of update texts for the 2.1 previous upgrade.

The problem I have with the review is that it doesn't address any of the "issues" being discussed here (reboots, freezes, WiFi vs. cells conflicts, signal strength, battery level reporting). I mean it's great GB should be coming soon, but unless it fixes the numerous bugs...well it's not of much use IMHO.
Kind of Odd that the clock says PM/AM when Google removed that in gingerbread

Correction: I'm waiting for 2.3.4

Netflix App not supported for Thunderbolt...

Wow... Netflix App just showed up in the Market...
Supported Devices:
• HTC Incredible with Android 2.2
• HTC Nexus One with Android 2.2, 2.3
• HTC Evo 4G with Android 2.2
• HTC G2 with Android 2.2
• Samsung Nexus S with Android 2.3
Incredible and EVO 4G, but no Thunderbolt???

Based on the permissions this app requires, it probably reads the build.prop file to determine which phone you are using.
Any way to trick the app into thinking we're using an Incredible or something?

I'm with you on the 2nd gen Snapdragon thing. Everything I read about the LG Revolution said that it could only run the Netflix app because it has a Qualcomm MSM8255 (same chip that is in the T-bolt).
so wait my girls one year old evo can play netflix but my brand new thunderbolt cant? Really watching windows 7 man.
somebody pulled the apk but it still does not work on the Thunderbolt. The apk seems to look at the phone it is on when loading. I dont have enough post to post a link so edit the following.
www multiupload com NPZ062QIZB
what happen to all that drm talk?
Give it some time. This is what Netflix says on their blog:
The Market download will initially be available only on select phones that currently have the requisite playback support. We expect to quickly add to the number of phones that can download from Android Market as we work with ecosystem partners to expand playback support.

It only makes sense for them to first support phones which have been out longer, and have a larger installed base.
Can it be that the reason the Thunderbolt won't be sporting Netflix is because Verizon had blockbuster preinstalled?

Ha yeah...Adrynalyne said it was a trojan to free up bandwidth for dev's to download it. The original "leak" was not flashable and people would have messed up their phones if they jumped the gun too early. Probably did himself and the rest of the community a BIG favor (no threads titled "Help I tried to flash the leak and screwed up my phone")
Has anyone tried this yet with 4G? Will this work with Titanium Backup so I do not have to reload all my info and apps?
