I have followed one too many tutorials methinks in and effort to hack my post 911 fix HTC Magic and have successfully made a goldcard downloaded the Europe RUU installer, Android SDK, ADB says it works but the moment I try to use the RUU it gives me a 170 usb connection failure error asking me if I plugged the damn phone in or not and I can find no other thread with this problem or a tutorial that even mentions this as a problem so if there is a buried thread I can't find link me to it but if not please give me a clue as to why the RUU installer cannot find my phone. Thanks ahead for any info as it is all appreciated.

I am trying to use the RUU_Hero_C_Sprint_1.56.651.2 signed release.exe on a Sprint HTC Hero that came with 1.56 installed and has "with Google" branding on back. But when I try to restore it says ERROR[180]PST UNSUPPORTED ERROR I have the correct drivers installed and the device shows up as ADB in device manager.
Try putting the phone in fast boot first.
Hold home and volume down while its booting.

this has been covered about 129345 million times,
please search first!!
p.s. i'm not trying to be a ****, its just the 40th thread about this, there is a RUU thread if you search then post it there
I sorry but when I searched for the error I couldn't find anything it showed a ton of threads and searching inside the threads didn't help anyway I figured out it was because I had Android 2.1 installed when I needed to have 1.5 installed.
ok, i apologize off the bat because im new at this and need help. basically my friend updated my htc hero firmware from 1.5 (Stock) to 2.1 version and rooted it. well now my wifi is unable to connect, my phone lags, and my internet is all out of wack. so i proceeded to take it back to original version and have been unsuccessful. I have downloaded two different ruu's because i am having trouble finding the stock ruu. I have tried on the RUU_Hero_C_Sprint_1.29.651.1 now i connect my phone to my pc (windows xp) and i turn on debugging and use htc sync which the phone will connect to my pc. i open up the ruu and it runs and acts like it is working then gives me error code 140- bootloader version error. then i use RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_1.76.405.1 and it does the exact same thing and gives me error code 130- Model ID Error. I have no idea what to do or how to fix it. If anyone could give me some advice or help I would GREATLY appreciate it cause i just want my phone back. Thank you for reading. and ill do my best to provide anymore info if you need it.
fixed
i was using the wrong ruu i was using gsm when i should have been using cdma
try Cyanogenmod and you will not have this problems
Sorry to put this here but first post after joining, and I can't post in the required section.
I have been trying to resurrect my bricked HTC Pico. I followed this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2048312 and found the rom to be very good and fast but one issue so if someone can let the developer know, After following all the instructions and installing the rom I can't do anything else due to it saying there is no more space even though I have set up the extra partition as ext3 before installing the rom.
Is that you IHATEHIPSTERSSS?
Anyways check out this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1500165
I'd factory restore the phone and start the process over. As long as the computer sees the phone when it connects.you're not bricked.
Sorry, don't know who you are talking about and I tried the RUU but get a certificate failure. As I said, I tried everything suggested, even a full factory reset.
Oh and I have already done the suggested with extracting the files from the RUU
OK I talked to another guy on a tech site last night who is new to the pico and flashing ROMs.
Its been years since I delt with an HTC device. Google around using 'certificate failure' in the keywords. Hopefully somebody had a similar problem and figured it out.
Sorry I can't be of more help.
Thanks, it seems that because the phone was originally a T-Mobile phone, there are no RUU's that will go onto the phone because it won't accept a generic RUU. It would need to be a T-Mob RUU for the Pico, I have scoured the net but nothing so i'll just keep trying to sort the memory issue somehow.
Hi Guys (and Gals),
I've just registered on the site, after browsing and reading posts for a few days. I'm very much an Android tech-noob but also very keen to learn more as I go along...
Here is my dilemma:
After sending my HTC Sensation XE back and forth to HTC for repair 4 times, I've now lost any faith in them helping me resolve anything. Basically, they sent me a replacement phone (supposedly unlocked) but it is locked (eight digits) to an unknown network and I don't know how to unlock it. After wasting precisely 3 months and many hours on the phone with incompetent HTC technicians, they finally informed me last week that my warranty had just run out, that day, and that they would no longer help me with any problems with the S-XE. Nice - NOT! I was furious.
So, here I am wondering what to do next. I have followed a few threads on this site and tried a couple of unlocking methods [ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1232107 ] but it appears that these methods work only on rooted phones. D'OH!
My phone isn't rooted and is currently showing S-ON. (I *think* i'm learning some lingo, lol).
I rang a couple of local traders, who said they can unlock it for a tidy sum of £15. I'm not sure what these guys do to the phone and whether it is basically the same as rooting my device?
I guess what I'm asking is, does anyone know how I can unlock this phone myself, without rooting it? Alternatively, would rooting be the only option and which method would be the best option.
I already use a HTC One, so I obviously do have a working phone but I am very keen to get this Sensation XE working.
Despite being quite clueless, I'm willing (and curious) to give rooting a go, if it's the only way to resolve my problem. My fears are that I just don't know which method would be best (and simplest), I'm worried about 'bricking it' and I don't know how to flash a ROM.
After reading some threads here, I have determined how to fastboot (?) my phone and have found the specs, as follows:
***LOCKED***
PYRAMID PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT - 1.29.0000
eMMC-boot
Mar 2 2012
Current software info:
Android version: 4.0.3
HTC Sense version 3.6
Anyone have any sensible ideas? If anyone can help, I'd be very grateful. Oh, and apologies if I've posted this in the wrong 'section'. Many thanks in advance.
Regards: Undercrackers.
if you want to unlock your device to any network then you have to do this first
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1661631
after S-OFF in the thread you mentioned go to page 54 in see post #531 on how to unlock it

Hi, rzr86, thanks for the info.
I downloaded the latest controlbear, ice cream sandwich from http://unlimited.io/jb_pyramidlocked.htm
I followed the instructions from http://unlimited.io/juopunutbear.htm as far as I could.
I plugged in my USB and managed to run temp_root.bat with no problems but, I ran into problems with the ControlBear instructions and folder.
I'm guessing my phone is 'Stock RUU' but unsure what this is.
I'm not 'HTC Dev Unlocked', as the prerequisite states, but it says in the thread [http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1661631] that I don't need to be so I'm now confused.
Another point of reference is that there is no ControlBear.exe file to run, in the ice cream sandwich downloaded zip folder.
It contains just a ControlBear [non exe] file, alongside adb, fastboot, MD5SUM and a jb_hboot rar/zip file.
I'm not sure if anything is missing?
Excuse my ignorance here.
The instructions say:
8. cd into the folder where you extracted and run the following cmd:
Note: This cmd returns a blank new line if you have done it correctly.
chmod 755 ControlBear adb fastboot
9. Run ControlBear from terminal - sudo ./ControlBear

This is where everything fails me, I have no idea how to do this - at all, so I ran temp_root_remove and set my phone back to how it was before I started.

Ok first off I would like to start off by thanking everyone in advance. I am a little weird at explaining over text but ill try. I have a old AT&T HTC One X that I was wanting to install a jellybean custom rom on. I guess in order to do that i have to update the Hboot to 1.36 (Hboot currently 1.14). Now correct me if i'm wrong but I did a little research and noticed I had to unlock the bootloader prior to updating the Hboot, so I watched a video by a guy known as "onexroot" (link below) and followed his steps. But when I looked at my CID it was 11111111 so I didn't really know which option to pick. So I stopped and did a little more research on this and had no success. I continued and picked list . After going through the next few steps I get an error "FAILED(12 signature verification fail)" I went online and researched this and it seemed that that error only came up on nexus one devices? I am completely stuck and seem to run into a error every time I try to mess with this phone. I would be very thankful if someone on this forum could shed some light in the direction i need to go with this phone. I have attached a ZIP file with the pictures and a text document containing the link to the youtube video and my email address. I put them into a ZIP because the pictures were to big and i'm unable to post links because I am a new user.
Thanks,
Tyler

I think you're a bit confused here, and it's probably due to going to onexroot.com for information. XDA is the only place you should go to for info regarding modifying your device. That other site doesn't properly distinguish between the HTC One X (Endeavoru) and the HTC One XL / at&t One X (Evita), they're completely different phones and the firmware isn't compatible. You have the HTC One XL / at&t One X (Evita), but the tool you've been using is for the HTC One X (Endeavoru), it's a good thing it keeps failing otherwise you'd have an expensive paperweight on your hands.
Anyway, stay within XDA, and more importantly, stay within the correct device subforum. This is our device main page:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/one-x-att
Don't ever venture out of this section or you'll end up in trouble.
So, what you need to do is go to htcdev.com and unlock your bootloader. Once you've done that you can flash TWRP recovery to your device. Once you've done that you can flash SuperSU to get root. Once you've done that you can get s-off via the Facepalm s-off method. And once you've done that you can upgrade your firmware (not just your hboot) in order to run the latest Jellybean ROMs. I have a guide thread in my signature which will explain most of the above stuff, but feel free to ask any questions if you need further help.
